In the growing age of quick & convenient, specialty shops that sell a certain type of product are sometimes hard to find. When you do find one, you might also worry about price, inventory, and even service. Harmon's came through in a pinch and, while perhaps not the absolute most affordable option compared to eCommerce, was a great experience that will have them top of mind in the future The Space A bit out of the way in a business cul-de-sac on South 34th St., I found an ample amount of parking and a fairly large storefront when walking into the building. More than likely you might feel a little uncertain when driving to them because of the hidden location but the inventory volume alone made it clear someone knows what they are doing in the shop. Everything appeared to be organized despite the ample stock, but thankfully I knew what I needed prior to coming in and had no need to wade through the sea of accessories. The Service As mentioned, I was hurrying to find a frame that could support a backdrop I wanted installed during an event (shoutout to anyone who came to said get-down). I had an order that got caught in the ruckus of holiday shipping, so that left me scrambling between astronomical overnight shipping or finding something locally. Harmon's came up with a quick search and, with fear of closure for the holidays, I decided to call. The man on the other end picked up and was immediately helpful in breaking down the options he could think of right then and there, such that I was already confident about driving right over to inspect the choices. When I arrived he already had the best option opened up to look at and ran down the pricing so I could make an informed decision. I was able to test it out right in the store, get help with set up, and walk away totally confident in a purchase. Final Thoughts The price was more affordable than going to a 3rd-party for overnight express shipping for sure, but I can't say they have the absolute most affordable options compared to items I was looking at that just couldn't ship fast enough. Harmon's is the only frame game in town as far as I'm concerned. With enormous potential for customization and a staff that is both knowledgeable about their products and good at customer service, it's hard to walk out of here without finding at least two different solutions to your photography questions. I visit the store on a fairly regular basis and haven't had a single bad experience yet. A heads-up for people who visit on their lunch breaks (ie: me) -- Harmon's is very much a full-service lab, so if you intended to get in and get out, you may leave peeved that the employees had the nerve to spend twenty minutes on you. read more

Went in because I mistakenly thought my camera was broken. I'm new to film photography and Harmon's went out of their way to help teach me how to properly use the different features of my camera. I may have wasted another roll of film or two if it wasn't for their patience in teaching me the basics. Will definitely be coming back if I need to replace the battery or use any of their other services. read more

No business could stay afloat without making a profit, but the owners of Harmon's like to push the limits of shady practices. The pricing for all the services is inflated much higher than others doing the same work. A friend who works in their Digital department has seen how they take advantage of their elderly and disadvantaged customers, regularly charging massive fees for easily accessible information or services. One of the owner family even openly bragged about posting it on a photo trade news website. Harmon's is great. I went in the other day to get some pictures on a USB drive made into actual prints, and it couldn't have been easier to do, and inexpensive too, if you ask me. As an avid 35mm film photographer, I take my film to be processed at Harmons rather than CVS or someplace that has absolutely no idea what they're doing. Harmons does a great job as far as processing, however, their customer service could be better. I've dropped off film before and was told to come pick it up at a certain time the next day, and it hadn't even been processed yet. Another time it had been processed, but it was not scanned like I requested. Another important note: make sure you explain to them you want your film scanned at least 300 dpi or more...they seem to think 72 dpi is a standard, and let me tell you, you can't print bigger than 4x6" without it looking pixelated. You would think a professional photo store would know this, but I guess not. I'll give them three stars because while they never messed up my film beyond repair (i.e. had it turn up blank, accidentally expose it, or cut a frame) they're customer service and staff sure could use improvement. read more

I had a great first experience getting a print made, but, when I wanted to have some more done, the man on the phone just now was extremely rude. I was trying to get him to tell me the available print sizes so I would know my options before sending in the .jpegs by email, and he followed up by spewing out a lot of numbers at lightning speed until I slowed him down. Then I asked what a standard photo album print size might, like the ones they print at Walgreen's, and he responded condescendingly, "I don't know what size Walgreen's prints, sir." To say the least, I won't be ordering anymore prints from Harmon's. read more

I always give my kids a budget for my birthday presents (single mom) and they snuck a photo from my of my album of a special place from my childhood. Apparently Harmon's not only worked miracles with the picture but did it all in a small budget. I love local businesses, and I try and choose them over Amazon or the big-box stores every time I can. However, these guys have no inventory of cameras and a very limited selection of lenses, flashes and other hardware. They don't have people on staff who can answer technical questions. Might as well go to Best Buy, which, unfortunately, I had to do this time. read more

I tried Harmon's again... my first experience was several years ago. I had heard wonderful things about this local business. My first experience was with an older woman who was completely rude to me. So, I tried it again a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to make a calendar and have 10 printed to give to my family. Wouldn't you know it... I ran into a nasty older woman... again! Talk about nasty! I knew what I wanted and she knew better. Needless to say, I took my business to another place and was treated respectfully. I believe strongly in working with local business, but I will not be going back to this place. read more

They have best prints, especially for black and white film. But don't buy their equipment. It's cheaper on Amazon and they have a better return policy. Harmon's charges a restocking fee. My father tried to return a grey backdrop. They took it to the backroom to examine it. When she returned, she said there was a red dot on the bag and therefore they wouldn't accept it. I still have no idea how a red ink dot got onto the bag. Very suspicious to me. And they wouldn't accept the other equipment simply because the box was opened. Like I said, prints are great quality. But their equipment prices and return policy are outrageous. read more

Harmon's staff, particularly the framers have always been helpful and courteous when I have had work done by them. I have referred friends and family to come to Harmon's with framing needs. More economical than others in the area, especially Michael's with their 50% coupons that leads you to believe you are getting a great deal until you find the -50% only is on the frame itself, doesn't apply to the labor, glass and matting. Harmon's is right up front with their pricing and a great place to go for enlarging prints and framing. read more

Ten days ago I went to Harmon's to have two slides made into canvas pictures.One a 8 x 10 and one a 5 x 7. I had three additional slides I wanted to have made into regular small photos. I was quoted a price of $150.00. (A bit pricey, but they are the only game in town) I was told to return on Tuesday October 4th. When I arrived mid-morning on Tuesday, Oct 4th the attendant went searching for my order. She returned to the counter empty handed and said the order was not ready, I asked her if the order was "almost": complete, should I return the following day? She told me the order had not yet been started. I was beyond disappointed as the larger canvas picture was a birthday gift for my Uncle whose birthday was five days away. When I asked how long she thought it would take to just make the one slide onto canvas, she replied "dunno". I gathered up my slides and left. Initially I thought ten days seemed like a long time. Their showroom was devoid of customers and other than the one lady helping me, there was only one man sitting in the back room on the computer. Maybe I am the only person in Gainesville who has not received the memo that I should have avoided this business. read more
