After a large surgical operation and a long period of time at a skilled nursing facility, we needed some home care help with a family member. I spoke with Freda at Harmony Home Care and she was able to schedule a caregiver in just a few days. Freda worked with our schedule and asked a lot of questions, so she understood what kind of care we needed. Phoebe worked as a caregiver for the family member 3x a week for just over 6 months and she was excellent. She helped with shower activities, laundry, preparing lunch, and general conversation and walking activities. Phoebe was always on time and helped us during a crucial period of recovery. Just wanted to give an update we've been using this agency for over 1.5 years now w/ no complaints. Freda the owner has been great scheduling trying to fill in spots. My mom the client is a bit picky w/ caretakers so it's hard for Freda but she does her best to keep all 7 days of the week covered. I talked to my mom and our favorite caretakers are Stacey, Cynthia, and Lisa. Stacey and Cynthia mainly work during the week to keep coverage from what I can see. I hear them speak to my mom when I'm in the hallway and they're very nice and sweet. I'll be honest it's nice to hear my mom have small talk with people other than my brother and I. I believe these two Stacey and Cynthia are the only ones currently giving her a bed bath. If we didn't have them during the week we'd be in bad shape. They've also helped w/ my mom when a physical therapist is here w/ the hoyer to lift her up to do things so they are trained. Lisa, mainly comes in on the weekends unless she has time to fill in during the week. She's a very sweet lady whose very nice and appreciative of whatever we do for her. She's communicative and gives her advice on my mom's care. Again, we've been using this agency for over 1.5 years and I see no reason why we wouldn't keep using them. Freda found Erica for us, and Erica has been a great fit for Mom. We lost Dad in the Spring, leaving Mom by herself, and refusing any help. So it's been a challenge to find a caregiver with a personality and approach that Mom would let her guard down for, and take to. Erica gets the basics done, and done right, and never needs to be asked or shown how to do something more than once or twice. Erica gets it. But what's more helpful is that Erica takes initiative, and makes suggestions based on what she's seen and heard. What this means is that I don't have to take the time and energy to think thru all the details of to-do's. Erica is self-managing, and great at reporting and summarizing at the end of her shifts. I don't know how she does it but Freda fills all the roles as owner, manager, scheduler, and customer service for Harmony Home Care, and she does a wonderful job! She seems to be always available to discuss any issue, and tries to find the best caregivers to fit our needs. My mom is 88 and has some special needs requiring care 24/7, day and night. Freda was able to find four wonderful caregivers in order to arrange 12 hour shifts to meet our needs. The caregivers Patty, Alpha, Lucy and Vivien are all very good at what they do and they truly care about my mom! They let me know how my mom is doing and work with me on ideas how to best care of her. I think of them as extended part of the family. I also like the personal attention and accessibility that Freda provides. We can even meet in her office to interview new caregivers which is not the norm for other agencies. My mother is so happy to have her daily visit with Charisse who she calls, her friend, who is now with her every day between 1-6pm. She takes her on an outing every day whether it be around the block in her wheelchair or to Nixon library or to her weekly hair appointment. She feeds her, helps her get dressed and does daily stretches and puzzle games with her to keep her mind sharp. Before Harmony home care, I was having to do all this every day with her, rushing back-and-forth from work, and my father was tied to staying in close proximity to her. Now, he is able to go grocery shopping, work in his garden, sit in this office doing bills at his computer, or even just take a nap. He's 81, and the brake he gets every day gives him more energy to provide for her in the evenings. I was concerned that their caregiver might have a shady background, but my fears were put to rest because they run a DOJ fingerprint background check on all of their employees. And that's another good feature ... all of their caregivers are employees, not independent contractors. The caregiver they provided was perfect. She was on time, personable, kind, worked hard and then asked if there was anything else she could do.
