Jake is an awesome trainer and he really resolved my biggest pain point. My dog is a pandemic puppy and used to have severe separation anxiety. He would howal and scratch the door even I was only out for 3 mins. Jake helped me crate train him. Now I could leave for couple of hours and my dog just chill out in his crate. I highly recommend him to other dog owners

We found Jake @ Harnessing potential dog training by an internet search after feeling helpless and stressed by our 15 month old dogs resource guarding misbehavior! we needed someone to teach us correctly how to deal with this issue. As we had also just adopted a 4 month old puppy, we wanted to have better harmony in our home with the dogs. we scheduled a few private sessions and within the first couple of sessions we had better control with our dogs, and understood what to do and what not to do and why. Jake uses a training method that makes sense, is easy to understand and follow. He works one on one and also offers group classes for better socialization and help with group settings. He has great feedback and gives you the opportunity to ask questions about your dog, and issues that come up along the way. He never is rushed and never pressures anyone to commit to X # of sessions or classes. If you're done after 1 class great! If you need to go every week that's Ok! Also pricing is reasonable! Can't say enough good stuff about Jake and his work with dogs He has a passion for dogs that is evident!

Jake is absolutely worth every penny! He has given me the skills needed to confidently walk and socialize my giant schnauzer, Chief, in my community. He's also helped Chief learn to manage his anxiety and reactivity to other dogs and small, fast-moving children. Chief is learning to be the dog we always knew he could be and I am learning to be a responsible and confident large-dog owner. We waited until Chief was 6 years old to seek training, and that was six years too long. Imagine how different our lives would be if we would have found Jake a few years ago? I'm excited for Chief to confidently explore his world, meet new doggy pals, and for humans to see him for the amazing pup that he is. Thank you Jake! You truly are amazing!

WORTH EVERY PENNY! Training with Jake has changed my relationship with my dog in the best way! My dog and I had developed, I would call it a "trauma bond", after he needed an emergency surgery. It left both of us full of anxiety together, as well as, separation anxiety. He became very protective over me, reactive toward other dogs, and recently had started to react with people. Since starting training with Jake, we are much calmer together. We are back on walks again. (He was so reactive I stopped taking him on walks because it stressed me out.) We even joined one of Jake's group sessions recently! He's happy to meet people again. We can enjoy each other again. I've done training in the past, but we always plateaued because of being in a controlled environment in a training facility. With Jake coming to our home he was able to help me train him in our world. We were constantly encountered with real life situations. It helped me understand how to handle the situation and take control. It's given Kodi peace and he's built trust that I can lead our "pack." I honestly never thought we would get here, because prior training has failed. I'm so grateful for Jake and all of his help and patience!

My 2 year old dachshund just returned home after 4 weeks boarding training at Jake's facility which had followed 7 individual training sessions at my house. I am very happy with the results ! I came to Jake because my dog, Buddy was extremely aggressive and would try to attack any visitor to my house. Buddy would be behind my security fence and be chewing on the steel bars, barking and trying to jump over. Buddy is totally different now and was sitting right next to a visitor, taking treats from her and quiet. I was amazed, dachshunds in general are a breed that are difficult to train. During the individual training sessions at home, Jake has taught me how to lead and control my dog which he emphasizes correctly as being critical to success. He has trained me how to address all the serious behavior issues which Buddy had to include barking and attacking visitors and not staying put in his designated location. In summary I would recommend Jake if you have issues with your dog's behavior, he will train you and your dog together to have a happy life together. It's worth it --- I expect another about 13 years together with Buddy in our family.

The first year with my golden retriever, Luka, was extremely hard. He was a mouthy dog who had zero boundaries at home or outside. He would get excited or frustrated and grab/bite onto my shoes or clothes daily. Walking him became an impossible task because he was extremely dog-reactive, and he dragged me a couple of times while trying to chase another dog. Walking him also became a two-person job, with someone always on the lookout for other dogs so we could turn the other way. He also began to resource guard and snapped at my dad twice.. I had already spent thousands on another trainer and didn't have much success. I began to feel like this was just what life with Luka would be like forever. It got to the point where I felt scared of him, and the life I was giving him out of that fear wasn't fair to him. So I decided to try and get help one last time. I found Lori's page and after reading the reviews I became hopeful again. I took Luka in for an evaluation, and Lori recommended their board-and-train program. I can't thank Chelsea and Lori enough for everything they've done. I've learned so much about Luka, how to manage different situations, and how to better understand his behavior. We had training lessons throughout his board-and-train stay and afterward, because we are the ones who need most of the training! Chelsea did an amazing job with Luka. At home, Luka is unrecognizable in the best way. We can actually go on adventures outside without being terrified that we won't be able to handle him. Those who knew Luka before his stay and see him now always comment on how well he is doing. I cannot recommend Lori Hamilton's Dog training enough to anyone who feels like they've tried everything and is feeling discouraged. I am so thankful because it finally feels like Luka and I can start living life and enjoying everything around us.

He was an anxious, leash pulling, cat chasing, chewing, biting and jumping-- hiding inside an adorable shell. We started in Lori's group class, then did private one on one training with her and ultimately 4 weeks of board and train at her facility. She trained us and trained him and ultimately transformed life at home. Our 3 cats are now able to be in the same room as him. Our visitors no longer have him standing up on their chest in exuberant greeting. We can relax and have dinner without Ruben trying to eat our feet or running zoomies around the room. We can walk him without having our arms ripped out of our sockets. He is calm around other dogs. He is crate trained and easily goes to sleep at night. He has his own treadmill and works out twice a day, in addition to our daily walks. We been to Pack walks with Lori and 15 other dogs, all walking obediently through the Pruneyard shopping center. The dogs get to work on socialization and good manners on these field trips. Lori came to our house and we staged a meal with a visitor. It really helped us learn how to keep him on his best behavior during meal time with a guest!!! Our first year with Ruben was really tough, he was not the mellow golden retriever we anticipated. Lori's teaching changed everything. She provided the methods and the tools to help us have the best outcome and a relaxed home life with our beautiful dog; more than we ever expected!!!

I knew going into this training that it was me that needed most of the training! Steve explained that I needed to learn how to communicate with my dogs, that they communicate differently. What an eye-opener! Everything he explained made sense and in just the few hours we spent together, Lana was already following the cues that Steve taught me. Consistency and repetition is key. She and Benji…read morewere the first to arrive, they were running around, then came Cooper, he seemed very scared from the start and did not want to engage with other pups. We loved that trainers were there to help monitor behavior if necessary. If two pups were playing too aggressively,or if I pup was afraid they had a stick they used to get the pups to disengage and redirect. Fig has attended 3 socials and each experience has been positive where we learned something. One time another pit puppy was playing a lot with Fig, she was racing in circles, tumbling, fully engaged, then went to rest in the shade. She seemed done after 20 minutes, rather than keep her in the social to get my full 30 minutes we thought it best to leave on a good note. The last 2 weeks, August 15, 22 we brought our 2nd new puppy, Sage. At first she was shy (and this was her 2nd day with us), trying to figure out this area full of puppies, she quickly found that same pit puppy that Fig played with the week before. The recommendations from trainers to humans is to walk and socialize with other owners and not engage with our pups. We can check in with our pups as needed, but the goal of asocial is for puppy engagement. Our 4 year old Jelly, lost her big sister, Journey (75 pound lab/pit mix) on May 9 due to an unauthorized person, living with a small boarder, letting our dogs out of their kennel. Journey did not know this person and would not go back into the kennel, the woman went into the house and Journey was never seen again alive. She was killed by a hit and run off San Martin Ave near Center. To help Jelly gain some independenceand confidence we enrolled her in the 4 week training program. Rachel was her main trainer and we saw such growth in her over the month. We take Jelly on Saturday morning pack walks and small dog socials when possible. Our goal in training was to get a handle on Jelly's non stop barking when we talk to people on our walks, we didn't want her to get the small dog label of a yapper. She will go on her platform bed when we say 'place', she will sit/stay when we ask, we are able to go to a restaurant with her and Fig with no barking. ICA gave us great tools to help our dogs have a rich social life, now if it's up to us to continue the training.

My puppy was put into the small dog pen where he was immediately broad sided by another dog. He screamed and hid in the corner the remainder of the time. The trainers would not let me console him nor try to coax him out to play. They instead tried to poke at him with long sticks to get him out of the corner. (He now has a fear of brooms, mops, or any other long pole that resembles what they used.) I was also told I would be able to talk to trainers about the programs, our needs, and perhaps some advice on dealing with a teething puppy. All the trainers, including the owner, acted extremely put out that they had to talk to me. I will not be taking my dog back.

Our first trainer took one look at him and basically told us we'd adopted a tiny, bearded landmine. She called him "one of the most reactive dogs she'd ever met" and gave us the kind of "good luck" that usually precedes a disaster movie. Enter Mike Hatjes from Bay Area Dog Training. We found Mike on Yelp, and honestly, we were just looking for a miracle. Mike is a unique breed himself: he's incredibly direct (no sugar-coating the fact that your dog thinks he's the CEO of Chaos) but also hilarious. He balances that "tell-it-like-it-is" energy with a sense of humor that kept us from losing our minds. The Transformation Timeline: * The Private Lesson Phase (8 Sessions): We went from "we can't leave the house" to "wait, is he actually sitting on command?" By the end of our eight private lessons, we were taking regular walks. My blood pressure dropped, and Diego actually started building confidence instead of seeing every mailbox as a mortal enemy. * The Group Lesson Phase (The Real Magic): If you told me six months ago my dog would be in a group with 10 other dogs, I would have assumed there'd be a SWAT team involved. But Mike's group lessons are shockingly amazing. Seeing my dog hold a "down" in a row of 10 dogs while each one weaves through the line? It's practically a glitch in the Matrix. The Verdict: Mike didn't just train our dog; he gave us our lives back. We can do family trips, have friends over, and walk down the street without looking like we're wrestling a caffeinated alligator. If you have a dog that makes other trainers cry, call Mike.
