About a month ago, we've been having problems with our 40-year old Tru-Cut lawn mower. We've taken it to a couple of repair shops and when brought home, it works once or twice and doesn't start again...smh. Spoke to a friend and they mentioned Harold's Lawn Mower Repair. My husband called to find out if he can drop off our lawn mower. Harold asked what problem were we having. After explaining, Harold thought it had a gas problem. Said he's kind of busy but he'll make room in his shop for the mower. My husband and son dropped it off mid-morning. Harold called in the afternoon...it's done! Wha??? Awesome! They went first thing the next morning to pick it up. Found out that the problem was the gas tubing being cracked...Harold was right! My husband said Harold and his brother Harry were really nice, service was fast and the amount charged was under $100...we thought it was reasonable. We would definitely return for our lawn equipment repairs and recommend them. They are located right across the street from Hawaiian Humane Society. As for parking, they parked on the sidewalk in front of an apartment on the left of Harold's shop. When they picked up, they parked in a small shared parking lot in front of Cake Works on the right of Harold's. I decided to wait a month to write this review because I submitted positive reviews for the other repair shops and ended up encountering problems so wanted to make sure everything was ok. My second time using their service. First time was several years ago for my Husqvarna string trimmer - took awhile to get the work done, but he warned me and it is working fine now. This time a 9-month-old lawn mower stopped working could not get it started. Contacted the place through Yelp and got a reply within hours. He did not have space to let me drop it off and leave their, but said to call if I was willing to drop off and pick it up on a day he had time, he would do it. So I called the next work day and he told me to bring it in suspecting it was the carburetor. I took it immediately and within 2 hours he called back saying it was fixed - the carburetor was fouled with what looked like old gas. He charged me the price that he quoted and advised me on how long I could safely store gasoline before it goes bad and could foul up my carburetor again. The owner (I think), greeted me and asked what was wrong with my mower. I explained that the starter pull cord snapped. He said, "That's all?". He then helped other customers who were dropping off their equipment (appeared to be professional landscapers), and when he was done with them, he grabbed his tools and replaced my starter cord on the spot. He then made sure the mower started and I was done. Very reasonable fee! Dropped it off @ Harold's and he called me a few days later with the assessment. He stated he could tune up my weed whacker for abt $80.00 if I approved. I agreed to the service & monetary charges. Harold called a day later and stated that my weed whacker was tuned up (change spark plugs, new fuel lines, etc). Stopped by the following day @ Harold's and he started up my weed whacker and explained what he did to remedy my issue with the difficulty in starting issue. Awesome Thank you Last month (June), I couldn't start my leaf blower and I brought it to Harold's again. Harold called me a few days later with the assessment and pricing. My weed wacker needed a part that no company on Oahu had in stock so I was going to have to wait 2 to 3 weeks for the part to come in. I took it to Harold's and he was able to modify a part from another brand so that it fit my weed wacker so with only 1/2 hour work, he was able to get my weed wacker up and running perfectly!!!! We have a lawnmower that sat for over 35 years in our storage while we had yard men cut our grass, the last guy was a super duper lousy service so I decided to do it myself since i have more free time now, dusted off & tried to prime & fire the ole mower up, lo & behold it fired right up, next was to find a good repair shop to tune & sharpen the blades , looking thru Yelp I found Harold's, called them up , they're very busy & told me they will call when they have room to take my mower, they called back promptly , I took it in & they called me back shortly that it was ready to pick up, they did an excellent job tuning & sharpening the blades, in fact so good that it cuts like butter & better than it did 35 years ago ! Just had my four yr old Honda self propelled lawn mower serviced. It would start, then die after two minutes of sputtering. Harry made room for it and worked on it during the busy Christmas/New Year's time. He cleaned the dirty carburetor and did other service items I didn't even ask for. The charge was very reasonable and I told him I've known the business there for decades and want him to keep it going on. He even gave me a bottle of two-stroke oil and a part for another week whacker at no charge. Can't recommend him enough. Don't be put off by his brother who doesn't share his sibling's emotional IQ. I called to inquire for my husband whether or not they sharpen lawn mowers, the gentleman on the other side of the line was kinda abrupt. So since it was late in the day I asked if he would be in tomorrow morning so that we can drop off the mower. He said depends? I said huh? He said depends ..so I said depends on what? ..he said if I'm here or not . I was speechless and asked him if he was for real?! He kinda just grunted and I said I'll let my husband know. We showed up the next day and he asked me.."you the one who called yesterday hah?" I said yep I sure did..and we both laughed. So maybe he's not quite eloquent when speaking to you over the phone, seems a little rough around the edges ..but he is really nice. My husband was pleased with what he did with our mower, even pointed out a belt that was frayed that my husband never notice.
