Several years ago we had a leak in the mainline under our driveway. Tom from Harold's came out immediately and jack hammered up the asphalt, dug down to the bad pipe and replaced it, all within a few hours. I was bracing myself for a huge bill but found the price very very reasonable considering the time and effort involved. Recently, I had a question about a problem with a drain in a free standing tub. I called Harold's and talked with Tessa. She arranged to have Tom stop by, free of charge, to take a look. Tom looked it over, explained how I could repair the problem myself (no plumbing work involved just a new part needed). Had a nice catch up chat. I live in Auburn and have used Harold's plumbing a few times years back for some minor issues because they're a local small business. I remember being impressed w/the gentleman who came out who was very down to earth. He told me some things I'd been concerned about were just fine as they are. I remember thinking this was an honest outfit and the work they did do seemed quite reasonable. SOoooo, when I sent some Caesar salad down my garbage disposal earlier this week, and my kitchen sink nearly stopped draining over it (despite my best efforts), I gave Harold's a call. An actual REAL person answered the phone and was apologetic it would take a few days to get someone out. I was actually tickled by that timeline as I'd been envisioning worse. Tom was running early the day I was scheduled. He called to see if I was home. I VERY happy to get him here, so that was a plus! Tom found my home w/no issues, came in, and went to work. He was low key, prepared, knowledgeable, professional and worked studiously to unclog what appeared to be quite a clog, which likely there from before the salad headed down. I will say what came out of the open pipes was nasty beyond words. Tom had carefully lined my floor and under my sink w/all sorts of covers. When he was done, the clean up job he'd done was AMAZING! And I'm a picky lady about messes - particularly stinky ones, which it was. I was extremely impressed at his attention to detail and carefully not leaving any sign of what had come out of the clogged area(s). Tom was kind enough to talk to me about what shouldn't be sent through a garbage disposal and why. He even explained even as a plumber his household sends little down theirs and why AND why one doesn't want to use a plunger (yes, I had). Additionally, he was kind enough to let me watch him work and learn about the workings under there. When he was done, had cleaned up perfectly, the bill was most reasonable. We have used Harold's plumbing in the past for a few things like a broken toilet part and installing a sink insta-hot. And they were fast, efficient and very affordable. But just recently we had a major leak in our water service line. They came out and did a phenomenal job, our project had a few hiccups due to the fact our home is older and had a spiderweb of old lines and newer lines. But Harold's was up to the task. Needed our washer water valves replaced and called and sent pictures of the job and got a quote for $320. A week later they came out to perform the work and charged $570. I got three quotes for this work and they were the lowest quote but ended up being the highest at the end. They practice the old bait and switch. Severe lack of integrity and unethical. read more

The T&P valve on the hot water tank in my home was expelling an excessive amount of water. I contacted Harold's to schedule a home visit. While on the phone, Dean mentioned tapping the valve with the handle of a screwdriver to see if that resolved the issue. I followed his advice and it worked! No need for a service call now. In a world fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, where money is tight and small businesses are struggling to survive, I'm sure the charge for a house call would've been beneficial for Harold's crew. Great service from Harold's plumbing! They came out on short notice to deal with a faucet leak, and had to remove drywall on two floors to get everything investigated and squared away. Their cuts were kept small and neat, greatly simplifying the job (and minimizing the cost) of the contractor we hired to sort out the drywall. The leaky pipe was securely replaced, and they were able to help (for free!) over the phone a week later when the contractor noticed a brad puncturing a SECOND pipe near the first. Very happy with their work and service. A little on the expensive side, but as in most things you get what you pay for. Definitely calling them again for any future plumbing needs! read more

I had a toilet that leaked at it's base because the wax ring had expired. First of all I had to wait ten days before I could get service which contributes greatly to the water damage. Dave showed up and was quick and efficient, at least at first. My original request was to lift the toilet and put in a new wax ring and also install a new shutoff valve. He immediately went to installing a "repair flange" that in the end would not fit under the toilet. He lifted the toilet several times making modifications to the repair flange and each time replacing the wax ring but to no avail. Eventually he just used the original existing flange, as I originally requested, and put it back together with yet another wax ring. I believe that this speaks to his level of experience. Dave started out as quick and efficient and eminently professional. As time went on he got snippy and started throwing his tools down and acting visibly upset. He was making me anxious. He spent 2 1/4 hours at $149 per hour to do a half hour job. The final bill was $530 including all of the parts that he ruined. I called and talked to Dean at Harold's Plumbing and asked for some mercy since the bill was more than half of my monthly fixed income. Dean said he'd talk to Dave and see what he could do, but I haven't received a timely response and now I don't really expect one. I gotta admit, Dave was driving an mighty awesome (expensive) truck so I can guess where a lot of the money goes. No, I have not been financially compensated for this honest critique. read more

The water main between the street and home ruptured at a valve near the house, under the porch. It was about 4:30pm and I was in a bind. I was referred Harold's by my neighbor. I called and Tom came straight up. He said he didn't want us to be without water even for one night. He grabbed a short shovel and dug like a soldier digging a foxhole. He cleared the rupture in no time and had his partner and brother Dave come join. Together they had my problem solved and I had water again in about two hours. They worked like they cared more about me that the clock. Their price was lower than I expected for emergency an repair. Unreliable. My wife called to schedule an appointment for them to come out and give us an estimate. Initially, the guy was busy all day. When my wife said we needed somebody to come the next day, all of sudden they have an open spot at 3pm. So, we schedule for 3pm. The next day, 3pm rolls around and nobody shows up. After waiting about 15 minutes, we try calling them back several times. No answer. Don't waste your time with this place. read more

I realize that COVID has slow down the availability of products, but I waited 4 months and had to continue to call on the status. When the shower finally arrived and the plumbers brought it to install the backer board's for bars to be installed were not adhered to the back of the shower walls. They did not adhered the shower walls to any backing on the walls . Not happy for the amount if time I waited to have this installed properly. read more

If this was the last plumber around, DO NOT CALL THEM! They do not know what the h* they are doing. The company I used before couldn't come so in desperation I called Harold's. I have an older home and the guy was having a hard time finding the clog. He even had the nerve to charge me for the hour he sat and did nothing (he said he was trying to think where else to look). Then when he attempted to send the snake through my basin, he broke the trap and charged me for the replacement he had in his truck. The guy left all the gunk in the tub (I know my "regular" plumbing company would have helped me clean it out). He also left the nasty rag he was using. If they've had years of experience in the Seattle area, I saw NO sign of it. I'm only giving the 1 star rating because this system requires it. They don't even deserve the 1 star. read more

I thought this was a great local plumber but turned out to be a nightmare. They are unreliable, rude and incompetent. Called for a water leak and guy said he couldn't find it BUT did happen to find another that was at the opposite end of the original leak. Now how do I really know if there was another leak or were they just over charging me? When the leak continued they returned with a different plumber who located the leak immediately and charged us again!
