Probably the best catfish I've ever had. The location is not easily found. Back in the old days, this place would have been one of those places that you could only find by word of mouth. I ate here once back in around 2009. I wanted to return and try it again. I looked beforehand and noticed that they do not allow cards as a form of payment. It's cash only, or you could write a check with a form of ID (so the sign says). You walk in and are told you can sit anywhere you like. A waitress comes and takes your order at the table. They offer all you can eat catfish and coleslaw. I opted for that one "Adult fish plate" for $12.50. The waitress said I could go get coleslaw at a cold bar. The coleslaw was a little sweet for my taste. The food came out and the catfish was plentiful and good. I only could eat one plate. Worthy of note: there is a sign that says "No smoking" but that may have been a suggestion - or smoking was tolerated. Because the table next to me, there was an old grandma with a lit cig smoking. I believe in Kentucky they do have a law that smoking is not allowed in businesses but like I said, this place is isolated and in a hollow, so I doubt any fuss is made about it. I ordered loaded baked potato, onion rings, hush puppies and cole slaw. The potato was a really good sized, but not heavy loaded; only a little bit on the surface. Noticed there was no butter in it. The onion rings were Not even crispy at all and it even tasted in poor quality. The Cole Slaw and Hush Puppies were good. A bit pricey especially without any meat (catfish, oysters, shrimps, etc.) My husband ordered the catfish, baked potato, cole slaw, onion rings and hush puppies. He said the catfish and cole slaw were very good. Not impressed with the way the potato was very lightly loaded and poorly tasted onion rings. He said he will definitely order Catfish again without other stuff. Still we were disappointed. Drove 45 minutes away. read more

The catfish consists of a pile of small lightly breaded filets that are well seasoned. I have yet to see someone go for a second plate because it's such a hefty portion! I also love the $13 seafood platter, it comes with shrimp, oyster, clam and catfish! I think it's really good but the catfish is definitely the star. This place is a local staple. The older I get the more that "all you can eat" turns into just one plate. That's ok though because for only $12 you get TONS of fish and fries. I'm not 100% sure the fish is catfish, but it's still fantastic. They don't take credit cards, so make sure to stop by an atm on your way or time travel back to 1985 and bring your check book. This is a no-trill, clean dining area, fast, friendly service. The workers are all business, due to the place is always busy when we have eaten there. Harpers does fried catfish the right way. The fish is fried with a seasoned cornmeal breading and fried to perfection. Not greasy. We get the crinkle cut fries and their homemade slaw. Rating is for the fried catfish, hush puppies and Tator tots. Catfish are small pieces lightly breaded. Catfish is the draw and the only reason I'd go. My wife isn't a fan of catfish and this didn't change her mind. Cannot beat the price for all you can eat. The hush puppies were good and we liked the tots a lot more than the fries. Fries are krinkle cut freezer fries. Steak was ok, not great but not terrible. Cole slaw is a little sweet with vinegar and onion, no Mayo. Tartar sauce in packets. It is no frills. Family run. Cash or check only. It was a Wednesday and as we left at 5:15p it was CROWDED. When you go in, you seat yourself wherever you want - they don't seat you. They allow smoking inside in the back room. My brother and I met in Scottsville Ky for the weekend. We both love fried fish and saw online that Harpers catfish we close by so we drove there. We had been told Harpers was open till 21:00 but on arrival we were advised that closing had been changed to 20:00 (8 pm). I had just driven 4.5 hours from north MS and my brother had driven approximately the same from Dayton Ohio. The staff was extremely hospitable and the food an service were awesome! They were truly gracious enough to allow us to eat as they were closing for the evening. I would highly recommend Harpers catfish to anyone that's in the Scottsville area. You'll be glad you did !! This is not the place to order ribeye steak. I have been there a lot of times, but this time instead of fish, I got the steak.. big mistake..it took 45 minutes to get to the table. I ordered the Ribeye steak ( medium ) and loaded baked potato ( Loaded ) and a side of fried clams..ok The steak was rare.. and cold and the Ribeye I don't think I've ever got such a thin steak. Since my older son "use" to enjoy coming, even after I told him how downhill it had gone! We sat right up front on a weekday, (way before rush), and since I'd been cutting back, I only ordered a "child's plate." I let my son order first and he got "all you can eat" fish.
