absolutely predatory business model - if you're involved in an accident and call 911 (like I was) they will arrive via a contract with the police. when they arrived I was assured the tow would be free via their contract with the city. called later to ask if they I could hire them to tow it to a repair shop, and was informed I had been accruing additional $22.80 per day in costs, on top of the initial tow, and had to come in person to pay it (no online or over the phone, so even though I have 2 kids and no working car I would have to uber there and back to pay in person). That's a business designed to make it difficult for the customer and extract more $$ from them during difficult circumstances. Had the tow truck driver informed me of my options I would have declined and wait for triple A to tow the car for me to my auto shop of choice. If you are in Austin, and they appear on the scene when you're call 911 - DO NOT LET THEM TAKE YOUR CAR. Call your insurance company, ask questions, and make your own plan. Because once they have your car, they will extort you because they can. Trusting them at the scene after getting rear ended because the police station dispatched them cost me over $1,000. read more

I didn't want to be towed, but I had fuel injector issues at 110,000 miles and had to pull off on the side of the road. Not that I have much experience with towing, but I have a Range Rover and the gearbox would not move, meaning, I could not take my car out of drive and so it was stuck in my garage. After watching several YouTube videos and calling the dealership, we could not get my car in neutral. I called Terry Sayther, my mechanic for recommendations and they recommended Harper's. I called Harper's and spoke with their operator Betty who was as sweet as could be. I explained my situation and was told that I would need a flat bed truck. She kept me posted and within 1 hour, John arrived. He had my car in neutral and on the flatbed in less than 10 minutes! I was amazed and relieved! You pay a premium cost for everything when you have a luxury vehicle and after getting a quote from another towing company, Harper's was $100 cheaper! 0 STARS! My daughter, 17 years old, wrecked, driving in bad weather. The sheriff called a tow company before any of her guardians were on the scene. The tow driver arrived and put the vehicle on his truck without speaking any words about insurance/cost. We have AAA, which is free towing. The sheriff called the tow truck - not us! After the car was loaded he used expletive words to state that they don't work with AAA and that it would be $279 in hand right now to tow it home. We refused and asked him to take the car off so we can call AAA. He said the 'car is his now' and he's taking it. It will be $279 in hand now or $279 yard fee plus $22 a day and a 10 day hold/wait for them to get it to a collision yard. While we turned to the sheriff for help getting possession of our vehicle back, the tow truck driver DROVE OFF WITH OUR CAR - HE LITERALLY STOLE IT!! Leaving us no other option now but to be totally screwed. I hope he has diarrhea for 2 weeks and grows hemorrhoids bigger than grapes! read more
