Do they have the Chris Craft parts for engines that your looking for? Probably! Can you actually get them to check on the parts you need and get back to you NO!!! 99.5 % of the time they do not respond to your phone messages and 100% of the time they do not respond to your emails. You need to speak to someone live. Do not and I say do not let the phone operator tell you to call back and speak with Tom, he will NEVER respond. you have to get him on the phone live for your parts request, even then he most likely wont call back. He will not respond to emails either like I stated before. its a bummer because they know there stuff when it comes to parts and they can get it. Harpur's Marine has a stellar reputation in the boating community that goes back to 1957. I can see why. Without too much detail, let me say that they mostly work on Chris Craft engines, however, my engine was dropped off there by a mechanic who could not figure out the problem...without telling me. Tom and Fred worked tirelessly, taking it apart, inspecting every piece, replacing gaskets where necessary, and putting it all back together. Then, they checked and rechecked the engine. When they were finished, they left it on a compression test for 48 hours to ensure it was flawless. I can't thank them enough for their dedication. If there is a boat engine mechanics heaven, these two will be the veterans who teach the newcomers! Name withheld, and they know why. read more

Dependable, respectable, trustworthy. What more could you ask for when dealing with any business? And you could not ask for better customer service from this family run business. I got a couple of referrals from some friends who had boats in the area, and Tom gave me a great quote for our boat repairs and was so nice and genuine! I also always try and support the local 'mom and pop' businesses in the areas I live, and this one did not disappoint. Harpur's Marine is a family owned business in Wilmington, California. Apparently their specialty is Chris Craft boats and their engines. I wish I could rate Tom's skill level on engine repair, but we did not get that far. My engine runs but it is in need of some serious restoration. I went by twice to Harpurs to meet with Tom, being a mechanic, he was always out on a job. Left my number twice, no return call. After a few more calls, he agrees to meet me at my boat to review the condition. Before we nailed down the appointment, he would tell me "Call me tomorrow at 3:45" and I'll tell you my schedule. Net Net - He looked at my engine and told me he would provide me with some suggestions. I said thank you and that is what I wanted. If I did get any work done, I'd hire Harpurs if he wanted the business. Well, apparently he does not. It took me two weeks to get him down to my boat and then another two weeks having him tell me he would send me his recommendation after the weekend, then tomorrow, then the next day. So, I finally called him as most of this was on email. He basically said he is not interested in working on it and does not recommend I fix my boat. Nice guy eyyyyy? The boat runs. The started is going to be hard to repair due to its age but what a jerk. He wasted a full month of my time. read more

As my husband has no idea on how to post reviews, I am doing it for him. :)) My husband treats his boat like it's one of our children, so when it started to have a problem with it's engine (it's a Chris Craft), he wanted it fixed asap. He took it to a few places around Long Beach, San Pedro, and the South Bay, but either the boat would sit there for a couple of days with no diagnosis, or the guy's would quote some seemingly outrageous amount to fix it. Taking matters into my own hands I started to Google Chris Craft boat repair places in the area as well as ask people at the yacht club in MDR. Harper's Marine came up and our friends told us it's a family run business which does excellent work which wouldn't cost us a fortune. My husband spoke to the owner Tom, who was very nice, extremely knowledgeable, and told him he could bring it right down so he could look at it. We both went down to the shop in Wilmington, had Tom look the boat's engine, got a correct diagnosis, and... the quote was more than half of what one place quoted my husband! I guess there are unscrupulous boat repair people, just like auto mechanics! And this is exactly why my husband will now only take his pride and joy only to Tom. Honest, ethical, met my expectations. Mechanic sent my good transmission for repair. Tom stood up to the bad mechanic and admitted to me the transmission was clanking because of a bad miss in the engine. I paid to re assemble the good trans and sued the mechanic.
