Worst boating repair shop experience ever!!! Consulted with Baja Marine on a raw water pump failure in August 2023 and did not get my boat returned until late July 2024 (11 Months). I was overcharged for services and the boat was returned with a $26000 invoice and it still wasn't repaired properly and alarms were still existing I have 40 years experience with boats and this shop was good when it catered to private boaters like myself and was located in Lomita. They seem to have grown too fast and they currently prioritize their commercial accounts and they could care less about private boaters like myself. I live in San Pedro and was told on a daily basis for 5 months that the boat would be finished tomorrow which wasted my time and most of the summer 2024. Upon finally returning my boat alarms were still present and the boat was not repaired properly so I had to take it to another shop. When evaluating a boat shop to fix your boat I would not recommend Baja Marine. 1. Over Promised (1 Month) and under delivered on expectations for returning my boat (11 Months) 2. Had to get get lawyers and police engaged to release the boat. Hostile owners Jesus Ramirez, Robert Munoz 3. Overcharged for services that were never addressed or repaired. Required to be repaired by another shop 4. Extremely difficult to work with Baja Marine (No response to calls and text) 5. Unprofessional techs and making it impossible to communicate. 6. Boat Shop is a complete mess (see photo of abandoned and unrepaired boats) with boats parked on top of each other making it impossible to walk through to check on your boat. read more

I am not sure where to start. If you're looking for a honest, reliable, marine mechanic look no further. After having my 31 foot Sea Ray for almost a year with another marine company, my friends told me to go see Jesus, at Baja Marine. Wow what a difference! From the second I met Jesus he made me comfortable. He told me exactly what was wrong, and gave me a timeframe he could finish the work. Everything was tested in front of me, with pictures of all the mistakes made by my old mechanic. Jesus, exudes confidence, with his knowledge, skills and great mechanics working under him. He fixed everything he promised, he even told me my hot water heater was installed wrong. His guys fixed that as well. After spending too many thousands of $$$ with my first mechanic, Jesus came in and fixed everything that needed to be fixed. Treating my boat as his own. After wasting a year with the old mechanic, I could now finally take my boat to Channel Island. Jesus did two sea trails, and called us on the way to make sure everything was perfect and that my brother and I were safe. What an experience! Thank you Jesus and Baja Marine for allowing my wife and I live the dream of being a boat owner (with a boat that actually runs). Hints: Do not trust any one that says their a mechanic, make sure they are certified. Be quick to get a second opinion from Baja Marine. Honestly, one of the worst service I have ever experienced. Brought in my outboard engine for repair. They told me they were a bit busy and it would take two weeks. 3 weeks in and I hadn't heard anything, I called them 4 or 5 times and each time they said they would check on it and call me back 15 minutes later. I never received a call back after any of my follow up attempts. I ended up picking up my engine and will take it elsewhere. Complete lack of respect for your time from these guys. Baja Marine is probably the best place to go in our area for any kind of service related to both . The owner is amazingly knowledgeable and his staff was more than kind . I worry every time I go out to have something done with my boat because of the quality of service I'm afraid I'm going to get but with the owner and staff and Baja are definitely the best . After 12 years of boat ownership and numerous technicians we finally found the best. Jesus and his crew were thorough, reliable and extremely knowledgeable. They ran diagnostics and looked at everything - not just the problem we called them for so we were able to address other items which would have become issues. The only technician who actually does a sea trial after the work was completed to make sure everything is running correctly. One mechanic was in the engine compartment while underway checking all systems while hooked up to a computer. Jesus followed up with us a week later to ensure we were happy with the work. I used to go to west marine, but found out their prices are double and triple what i should be paying. I bought a $800 simrad gps fishfinder and have had to return it 3 times due to problems. West marine was no help to me. One day i stopped at baja marine and spoke to Jesus who was working under a boat, he took the time to explain what the problem was with my engine, helped me order the part and for much less than west marine. These guys know their stuff and I would highly recommend shopping and having your boat/engine work done there. They are not corporate and only concerned about making money like other shops. Well I guess I spoke too soon. I'l just let you read my text to Jesus below. Again, he didn't respond and was a no-show. Beware..... Hi, Jesus. I appreciate you coming tomorrow. I also wanted to share that I was disappointed at the unannounced price change last time. The first repair you did in February was around four hundred dollars. Technically, you are no longer $135 and hour, as you'd said when we met. You have added one hour travel time (although it is 15 minutes both ways to me), and plus now charged a two hour minimum. So you're at $400 minimum labor before you step foot on the dock. As for the last repair, I called you right away to report that there was something wrong with the alternator belt, which is wobbling like a drunken sailor on St Pat's Day and a hazard as my starting is difficult. You'd changed the starter with a re-build, but charged me for a new one. So I hope, as a courtesy and as a professional, you will remedy the loose belt your tech caused without charge. My experience with Baja Marine is that they are one of the most disorganized unfair companies I've had to deal with. They will charge you an hour drive time for a boat that's five minutes away from them. They also charge you a large amount of money and not be able to diagnose your problem but yet state that they're going to go research it and months later still no word. The owner is completely unreasonable with his charges and doesn't want to help and work with you to fix a problem. If it's not fixable you'll have to spend your money at another reasonable company like Anchors up who actually do a splendid wonderful job. Don't waste your money or time with these guys read more

By 3 1/2 hp Mercury outboard was in Jesus is shot for over two months. And all that time they did absolutely nothing. Every time I called they would say the same thing. "I will check on your engine and call you back by the end of the day" that went on and on and I had no choice but to take my outboard motor to another shot. Take this piece of advice if you see a marine service place with a whole bunch of boats in the parking lot to not go there. I came to the realization that all of those boats that were in for service I've been waiting for a very long time to have the repairs done. This place is the worst of the worst. I came to business to see if my boat could get over hall for an upcoming trip. Jesus first said he could do it in six weeks. I was leaving in 4 weeks. He told me he would get it done for me. The day we were to bring boat I received a call from receptionist that there was a delay. Asked if it could be there the next Monday. Then he said they would pick it up at our storage. We were fine with that and reminded them that we would be leaving early Friday morning. Wednesday prior to our departure I again received a call from receptionist asking if I still wanted my boat serviced. I couldn't believe it. I called Jesus and he again said that it would be done. We had to go to storage Wednesday afternoon. And boat WAS STILL THERE. I texted Jesus never mind. I did not want a rush job. And that evening I got a call from him that it would be ready Friday afternoon. I told him that was too late. We were traveling with friends early Friday. He tried to convince me that it would be done by noon. We were on our way and I asked him to please return to our storage and I would square up with him when I returned in two weeks. He said he was fine with that. Now while I was on vacation I'm getting multiple emails. The invoice. Then multiple phone calls as to when I would pick up boat and pay invoice. I was furious. First we were not able to take boat but I also arranged with Jesus to return boat and I would pay upon return. I texted Jesus that I made arrangements with him and that I did not want to be bothered with this any further on my vacation. Upon return I went down next day to pick up boat and make payment. Of course they took payment immediately... which was over $3000. He showed us what he did which was an overhaul but did not replace fuel pump. Really! So he told us that he would order pump and put it in free of labor cost. And he would again return it to our storage. This process started sept 20th. I paid for service in full oct 11. I spoke with him oct 25 to check on boat because it was not in storage. He said it was complete so I told him we wanted to pick it up. He was coming up with excuses. Things needed to be moved etc.... I finally said I paid for service on our boat in full and I want my boat. He then said someone would be at business at 7am today, oct 26th. To deliver our boat. They did have someone to get our boat but the individual had to ask us which boat was ours. I had to go to office to pay for fuel pump. And I was charged 2 hours labor! He came up with some BS explanation I paid over another $500 and left. We finally took possession of boat after over a month. They are absolutely HORRIBLE doing business and would never step foot in their business again. RUN!!! read more

The worst. They charged me $500 to change the oil in my I/O MercCruiser. They wanted over $1,000 to drop the drive unit to service it! Not going back there. I looked at the itemized bill and hey charged me $20 a qt of oil! The carburetor was so bad it leaked all over because the float valve was sticking, they didn't even spot that or tell me about it. All you had to do was run it for 2 minutes to determine that. read more

Five months ago I called Baja Marine and asked them to take a look at my boat and give me a quote to fix some items. They said they were backlogged six weeks, so I waited. Eight weeks after first contact I called them repeatedly and eventually got an appointment to have them look at my boat. The owner Jesus forgot about our appointment and after I called many times he finally showed up four and a half hours late for the appointment. He gave me a quote and took money as a deposit and promised to work on my boat the following week. Over the next three months he made 12 promises to show up to begin the work and each time he never showed and never called to cancel. After a total of five months from my initial call I discovered he had still not ordered any parts nor had any intention of starting the work. He was very professional over the phone and came out to fix some issues I was having with my twin Mercury Engines. Him and his Mechanics came out on time and did really good work for a fair price. Stay away from these people. I hired them for mechanical survey of a boat I was buying. They asked for full payment the day after the survey and they got paid right away. I was told the report would be ready in a few days. After 5-6 emails and phone calls (none of which was even acknowledged) I was able to get from them, after 21 days, a 1 page report with no explanation, just bullet points. They had charged me for oil inspection also. They never sent that report. I had to buy the boat without the mechanical survey because the seller obviously would not wait for 3 weeks. So report was useless and it costed me over $1000. read more
