eggs benedict at harrington house

A few months ago, I decided to surprise my partner with a little weekend romantic getaway to Anna Maria Island located just south of St Petersburg and north of Bradenton facing the Gulf of Mexico. We had always wanted to go to a bed and breakfast and I thought this would be the perfect time to try it out. I had heard of this place first from one of my co-workers who had recently been a guest at the place and had a great time. I decided to take up her recommendation and visit Harrington House Beachfront Bed and Breakfast and enjoy the warm Florida sun by the beachside. It took about 2.5 hours to get to the island after getting a little lost (thanks googlemaps!), but when we arrived we could immediately feel the island's laid-back relaxed small-town spirit that is quintessential of "Old Florida". The island had narrow, curvy streets scattered with quaint shops and rustic seaside cottages and restaurants. One could really get a sense of getting away from it all and becoming used to living here on the beach side with its southern comforts and casual tranquility. Checking into the inn, I discover that there are free kayaks and bicycles that we could use to explore the island, I definitely wanted to try the kayaking out later on. The staff were welcoming and warm, suggesting places to eat and things to do during our stay. The owners are a couple who treat the place like home living out their motto "come as a guest, leave as a friend" The main living room had large comfy couches, book shelves of magazines and menus of places to eat at, the walls adorned with clippings of articles featuring the inn and a photo of the owners on their wedding day. There is an intimate charm about the Harrington House Bed and Breakfast, the gas-lit fireplaces in the room, huge king sized bed, double-headed showers, a small flashlight for night time excursions onto the beach for a moonlit stroll, are all fine details that they thought about for our stay here. The view at our room was marvelous, the grand and expansive Gulf of Mexico literally footsteps away. The white powdery sands and beautiful ocean view took my breath away. The room is also equipped with TV and cable The weather was perfect this past weekend, sunny and warm with a touch of clouds, a drastic change from the past week of downpours. We laid out on the beach to watch a spectaular sun set, kissing the horizon as it descended and tucking itself to sleep beneath the ocean's waves. We return to the main house for breakfast the next morning-- beautifully presented and featuring a variety of fresh fruit and juices, homemade toast made from a sweet oatmeal, eggs Benedict with country sausage and gravy, slices of muffin, plus fresh coffee and tea. It was a heartfelt breakfast from a heartwarming inn. I would love to live here forever, a sleepy village where time had forgot, living in a time when life was much simpler. also, this place was Voted Best Bed and Breakfast on Anna Maria Island from bedandbreakfast.com for 2008-2009 for photos of my trip! check out the blogo: http://tastychomps.blogspot.com/2009/05/harrington-house-beachfront-bed.html

This place is amazing. For the price you will get access to (free) bikes, kayak, beach chairs, beach towel, umbrellas, private beach, breakfast, dinner (light), wine, fireside chats. Anything you could think of - The Harrington House includes, including new friends that you'll make for a lifetime. The staff are very attentive and leave no stone unturned. The food is amazing too. We will be back!

From start to finish it was a great experience and very welcoming atmosphere. Did not want to leave and I hope that we will be back again.

This was a surprise romantic getaway from my wife from Friday to Sunday. Our arrival Friday was uneventful. Staff member was friendly, cookies were awesome! Friday night is when our problems began. We were on the top floor in the Verandah room. It was a very warm night and the A/C would kick in about 5-8 minutes per hour. You could not set it below 70, so it was an uncomfortable night of sleep. Next morning, breakfast was great! Open crossiant with scrambled eggs, bacon and chives. Also had a blueberry cake which was excellent. We retreat to our bedroom which had already been cleaned. We try to have an intimate moment when the maid inexplicably walks in on us. I felt quite embarrassed & violated. We got apologies & a credit, but for a location that charges $359 per night in the off season, they HAVE to do better. Very Disappointing.

We went for my wife's birthday and it was a weekend to remember! The staff was great! We were able to enjoy the beach and the pool prior to check in because we were early. They had chairs and towels for us which made the beach experience perfect. We stayed in the Huth house and it was amazing! The room was so relaxing and had a view of the water. The windows were tinted so we had privacy from people walking the beach. Breakfast was amazing. We would go back in a heartbeat. We didn't want to leave.

Not a very happy manager/owner!!

My husband and I went for a quick honeymoon getaway, just 2 nights of our Florida trip because our room was booked over the weekend. There was plenty of parking in front of the hotel which was perfect because we didn't need our car in Dunedin. Check-in was seamless and the communication with the front desk was excellent. We stayed in the Zen Suite which has a patio facing the street. There is a lovely wine bar with live music across the street. Both nights we sat outside and enjoyed the music but do visit Stirling Wine (I reviewed them as well, great crowd). The Zen Suite is so comfortable and thoughtfully decorated. Anything you need is already in the room including dishes, flatware, refrigerator, iron, blow dryer and robes. It was easy to relax. The king bed was very comfortable. We found everything in the room easy to operate - TV, AC, door locks. We also enjoyed the pool area. The pool wasn't heated so it was too cold for me but my husband enjoyed it. I relaxed on a lounge chair with an umbrella. We also took advantage of the breakfast promo with the red next door which was very convenient. Overall 10/10 doesn't cut it. We cannot wait to visit again and will stay at least 3 nights!

The pool is a great place to sunbathe, cool off and meet people, although it's not uncommon to have the pool to yourselves. The rooms each have their unique charm and are quite comfortable. Plenty of shower pressure and hot water in the bathrooms. The entire place is clean and outstanding from a decore perspective. The owners are very prompt in their communications. On top of all this you are essentially in the middle of downtown Dunedin with plenty of bars, restaurants and stores within walking distance. Even though we just had a three day stay, I'm already looking to book another stay here!!

As others have noted in their reviews, Ken and Jeff are constantly working to keep up this lovely family resort. It is clean and landscaped beautifully, and the rooms are just right! With a sitting area in our two bedroom, we enjoyed the recliner and couch as we watched movies in the evening. In our full kitchen, we stocked the refrigerator from the local Publix and made our breakfast and lunch, which we packed for the beach. Many guests chose to grill out as we saw when we would load up to go to a local restaurant for dinner, but we preferred eating out! On our first night at Hurricane Hanks restaurant down the road, we met up with a resident who offered us more ideas for restaurants for dinner. There's nothing like walking right out onto the beach to spend a morning watching the waves, seeing dolphins frolic, observing osprey catching their breakfast, and swimming in the water among schools of fish. Many of the guests knew each other from yearly vacations, and we have already made our reservation for next year! Anna Maria Island is quiet and family friendly. White Sands Resort offers shuffleboard and corn hole right next to the pool, but the best show is the sunset. On our first night, we were surprised to see how many lined the beach to see God's beauty, of course clapping at the end! Thank you to Ken, Jeff, Joy, and Esther for a wonderful stay. We wish you the best in the coming year, and we look forward to seeing you again!
