HH is a very nice Bed and Breakfast "complex." I was here a decade after it opened and stayed in the Dodt House. Dodt house at that time was comprised of 1 room accommodations with a private bathroom and some offered a heart shaped whirlpool. In keeping with the times, the owners have retired, and the HH complex has been renovated and reconfigured with the main house now being closed to the public and the Dodt house has been remodeled to accommodate larger groups (it is now a 6 bedroom and direct Gulf Front rental - from https://annamariaisland.com/harrington-house-accommodations). I have fabulous memories of this place! It's steps from the beach, and the room costs included a delicious, filling, homemade breakfast every morning (at that time in the spacious dining room of the main house), parking, kayaks, bicycles, beach chairs, towels, snacks/cookies, and at least one swimming pool. I was really impressed with all the amenities included in the room fee!!!! The proprietors and staff were so friendly and helpful embodying the motto "Come as a Guest, Leave as a Friend!" I smacked my finger while kayaking and it would not stop hurting and the staff were very helpful in getting us to a doctor, and of course, I broke my finger (totally my fault, Momma didn't name me Grace!) who x-rayed it, bandaged it up, and I was all set after that! Amelia island is a lovely, quiet, beautiful 7-mile island and so easy to bike and very bike friendly at that time! I really enjoyed biking the island, and ocean kayaking to a nearby restaurant - I think it was The Beach Bistro, or the Oyster Bar on the pier. It was so fun to "park" the kayaks and walk up to the beach front dining! A far cry from my landlocked hometown of Huntsville, AL. Holmes Beach/Amelia Island is my favorite FL destination and I'm happy, although reconfigured, Harrington House still offers a variety of vacation rentals. read more

What a wonderful feeling to come "home". My husband and I had not been back to our very favorite B and B in a couple of years. Not that we didn't think of going often, but the stars jut didn't line up for a while. Well finally we were able to go. Megan welcomed us with open arms. It felt so good to be back. If you are ever looking for a true relaxing getaway, Harrington House is your place. Each room is unique and cozy. Some rooms overlook the gulf and you can see the sunset from your room. Some rooms have a balcony. Or you can choose to stay in one of the bungalows. There you have a full kitchen, and a bit more privacy. No matter if you are in the main house, the carriage house, the cottage or a bungalow you will be treated like you are family. The breakfasts that are served are not to be missed. Each day is different, but there us always some sort of home made baked bread. Afternoons you can often enjoy home made chocolate chip cookies. Jo and Frank and their son Mark are the Inn's owners. Along with Ann, Megan and Jeanette, they all do all they can to make your visit the best that it can possibly be. The white sugary beach is just out side your door. There are rarely more than a dozen people at the beach at any one time. It is so peaceful and relaxing. Anna Maria Island is a true gem and Harrington house is the crown jewel. A few months ago, I decided to surprise my partner with a little weekend romantic getaway to Anna Maria Island located just south of St Petersburg and north of Bradenton facing the Gulf of Mexico. We had always wanted to go to a bed and breakfast and I thought this would be the perfect time to try it out. I had heard of this place first from one of my co-workers who had recently been a guest at the place and had a great time. I decided to take up her recommendation and visit Harrington House Beachfront Bed and Breakfast and enjoy the warm Florida sun by the beachside. It took about 2.5 hours to get to the island after getting a little lost (thanks googlemaps!), but when we arrived we could immediately feel the island's laid-back relaxed small-town spirit that is quintessential of "Old Florida". The island had narrow, curvy streets scattered with quaint shops and rustic seaside cottages and restaurants. One could really get a sense of getting away from it all and becoming used to living here on the beach side with its southern comforts and casual tranquility. Checking into the inn, I discover that there are free kayaks and bicycles that we could use to explore the island, I definitely wanted to try the kayaking out later on. The staff were welcoming and warm, suggesting places to eat and things to do during our stay. The owners are a couple who treat the place like home living out their motto "come as a guest, leave as a friend" The main living room had large comfy couches, book shelves of magazines and menus of places to eat at, the walls adorned with clippings of articles featuring the inn and a photo of the owners on their wedding day. There is an intimate charm about the Harrington House Bed and Breakfast, the gas-lit fireplaces in the room, huge king sized bed, double-headed showers, a small flashlight for night time excursions onto the beach for a moonlit stroll, are all fine details that they thought about for our stay here.The view at our room was marvelous, the grand and expansive Gulf of Mexico literally footsteps away. The white powdery sands and beautiful ocean view took my breath away. The room is also equipped with TV and cable The weather was perfect this past weekend, sunny and warm with a touch of clouds, a drastic change from the past week of downpours. We laid out on the beach to watch a spectaular sun set, kissing the horizon as it descended and tucking itself to sleep beneath the ocean's waves. We return to the main house for breakfast the next morning-- beautifully presented and featuring a variety of fresh fruit and juices, homemade toast made from a sweet oatmeal, eggs Benedict with country sausage and gravy, slices of muffin, plus fresh coffee and tea. It was a heartfelt breakfast from a heartwarming inn. This was a surprise romantic getaway from my wife from Friday to Sunday. Our arrival Friday was uneventful. Staff member was friendly, cookies were awesome! Friday night is when our problems began. We were on the top floor in the Verandah room. It was a very warm night and the A/C would kick in about 5-8 minutes per hour. You could not set it below 70, so it was an uncomfortable night of sleep. Next morning, breakfast was great! Open crossiant with scrambled eggs, bacon and chives. Also had a blueberry cake which was excellent. We retreat to our bedroom which had already been cleaned. We try to have an intimate moment when the maid inexplicably walks in on us. I felt quite embarrassed & violated. We got apologies & a credit, but for a location that charges $359 per night in the off season, they HAVE to do better. Very Disappointing. read more

I just love Anna Maria Island and Harrington House makes it even better. This cute bed and breakfast is a perfect getaway with the one you love. The rooms are all uniquely decorated with very comfortable beds. The House is quite, you'll feel as if you have the place to yourself. It's just steps to the beach. We'll be back While we were anticipating visiting the viejos Precious asked me to find a bed and breakfast to stay in for one night. There aren't a whole helluva lot of B&Bs in the area, and this looked like a very nice place so we booked one night in there. That was a mistake. We should have stayed at least two nights; three would be better; and a whole week would be ideal. I did't realize that I hadn't stayed in a B&B before. It has a nice parking lot with a lot of shade. We were greeted by a young lady who showed us around, explained the breakfast procedures, offered us some cookies and checked us in. We stayed in the Veranda room which is in the main building facing the beach with a deck overlooking the pool and an awesome view of the beach. It's an old building, and it shows, but it's be renovated probably several times. We were very comfortable and very happy. It has direct access to the beach, and they have some lounge chairs that you can use. At a resort I'm used to having to pay a $15 resort fee and an extra $15 if I want to sit on a chair. They don't charge anything extra for this. They also have kayaks and bicycles available so you can just use them. They don't try to squeeze any extra money out of you. That was nice. We took out a pair of kayaks, and we were just cruising around, but when Precious saw a school of dolphins, you'd never seen anyone paddle so fast. The pool is small, and it's heated, but when we were the only ones in there. There was a couple drinking wine on the deck, but other than that we were all alone. For breakfast you can eat inside or on the pool deck. Because the sun comes up on the other side of the building it was all shaded. The breakfast wasn't all that. It was ok. It wasn't bad, but it's not something to sing about. I had a Belgian waffle, and Precious had some eggs with some toast. One thing I particularly liked was the atmosphere. It was very laid back and quiet. There were no families with kids, just couples. Not that I don't like families with kids, but I never dreamed a place could be so tranquil. read more

We went for my wife's birthday and it was a weekend to remember! The staff was great! We were able to enjoy the beach and the pool prior to check in because we were early. They had chairs and towels for us which made the beach experience perfect. We stayed in the Huth house and it was amazing! The room was so relaxing and had a view of the water. The windows were tinted so we had privacy from people walking the beach. Breakfast was amazing. We would go back in a heartbeat. We didn't want to leave. read more

My wife and I stayed here for a night after our wedding for a quick getaway and some R&R. What an awful experience it was. We showed up at around 10 PM to check in to find that there was no concierge. Then after unloading our vehicle and schlepping it to the main building we found that the hotel had decided to put us in another building that was several blocks away from the main historic building. After all of the hassle, we finally got our things together and went into our room. The next morning we traveled to the main building for our breakfast to find ourselves being hovered around by the owner, whom was very rude and expressive to us that we need to be out of our room by 10 AM. When 9:45 came around we had started to gather our belongings. While we were doing so the room service lady rudely hovered right outside our door harassing us and telling us how urgent it was that we leave ASAP. Two thumbs down! We stayed here for a long weekend and it was stellar. Even though it rained all 4 days we were there it was STILL a wonderful trip. Everyone is so friendly, from the staff to the guests. Breakfast each morning was delicious, and the whole vibe of the place is just wonderful and relaxing. It's easy to catch the trolley near the entrance if we just want to wander around. Plus free homemade cookies at 3 pm in the lobby--what more could we want? Ha ha read more

I bought my wife a one night stay here as a Mother's Day present. We live in Orlando, but had never ventured over to this particular section of the Florida coast. We arrived in about 11AM on our reservation day. We were well aware that check-in was not until 3PM, but the extremely polite and helpful staff had no issues with us using any of the facilities until our room was ready. They even gave us a tour before we even checked in. We stayed in the "Spindrift" room and were very pleased with the accommodations. The breakfast was amazing... We are clearing our calendar for another trip down very soon. Cons: I was very leery of their cancellation policy. It is not very accommodating of the temperamental weather here in Florida. Make sure you read up on it before booking. I'm glad the weather was perfect for us. There is no one to help you if you arrive after 8PM. If you are coming in late, make sure you call ahead and get instructions. read more

The location and accommodations are great so I have to give some stars for that, and the breakfast is wonderful. The only problem we had was with the staff. They come off as very stuck up and do not give off the same friendly laid back kindness that most people do on the island. I think if you are an older white conservative couple or family staying there then you are fine but if you are anything else and do not fit his mold I would beware! I sensed that we were not welcome from the minute we checked in and the lady Kristin looked at me and my husband like we had three heads. We were visiting to celebrate our first wedding anniversary ( we got married on AMI at The Beachhouse). I think we appear as a younger couple even though I am 33 and my husband is 30, he especially looks younger than he is. My husband is Hispanic and I am caucasion. After we had already stayed there two nights and had seen many staff a woman that worked there approached us in the parking lot in an extremely unfriendly manner and started to question us about whether or not we were staying there. She looked at us as if we were some kind of hoodlums and when we said yes we had been staying there she looked at us in disbelief and asked us several times what room and how long and still seemed unconvinced. Finally she walked away with her rudeness and never even apologized. I'm sorry but I don't think she was asking any other older couples if they were sure they were staying here. I spoke to the ladies in the office and expressed our concern, who just said there were lots of kids running around lately who they were suspect of. I'm sorry, but I don't think that a 33 year old woman and 30 year old man could be mistaken for some "kids" running around. We are a young looking couple maybe but we are not kids in any way, shape, or form, and our money spends the same way as anyone else and all we ask is to be treated the same way as every other guest is treated. We are both professional adults just trying to enjoy our anniversary. It really put a bad taste in our mouth as to how we were treated and we probably would not want to return. I never write reviews but I feel that people really need to think about how they view others and how they judge people. Maybe they should take a look in the mirror before they make a judgement purely based on appearances. These people should be ashamed of themselves. We still absolutely love Anna Maria and we intend on returning every year to celebrate our anniversary and hopefully be treated a little better than we were by the staff at the Harrington House. read more

The Harrington house is a fabulous place for a family to stay on the beach in Anna Maria. We stayed in the Dodt house and it was huge! The place a little dark but the porch and deck were phenomenal. It was like having our own private house on the beach only someone else made us breakfast everyday. :) I highly recommend the Harrington house if you want a house like feel on the beach for a reasonable price. read more

Spent one night . The room was very cramped and musty smelling. It had the smallest bath room I have ever tried to use. Furniture needs updating badly. It was right on the beach just outside our door. I am glad we only spent one night. It was way over priced for what we expected. The breakfast was outstanding though. read more
