DON'T SERVICE YOUR CAR HERE. We purchased a car from this garage in August 2019. The purchasing went smoothly and we were happy with the service we received at the time. We were reassured that the 2nd hand car we purchased had been fully serviced in every way. Fast forward 9 months and we book the car in for a check-up. At the check-up, they immediately do a wheel alignment which apparently needed to be done straight away, even though this is not something I'd ever noticed driving the car previously. This ran us up $450, after which they presented a further quote for $2,200 of work that needed to be 'urgently' done. This is a significant bill to be presented with less than a year after buying the car and was over 25% of the total initial cost of the car. We decided to look into the quote a bit closer and have found the prices to be completely extortionate, and that's making the assumption that these changes were actually needed in the first place (nearly 2 months on from the service and the car is still running fine, despite the 'urgent' fixings that were apparently needed. Furthermore, after driving away from the service I was actually stopped on the highway at traffic lights to be informed that my skid guard was dragging along the floor. Yup, the mechanic didn't even screw the skid plate under the car back properly and it was dragging along the ground. I had to run the car down to a different car garage on my lunch break from work to get it fixed. I'm not instilled with much confidence in the service at this point but unfortunately, it gets worse. One of the items they said needed to be replaced was the cabin air filter. We purchased one online and thought we'd do this job ourselves. This would have been fine, except the screw for the air cabin filter is now completely threaded. So either the mechanic threaded the screw when checking and didn't bother to replace it, or they did not check the air cabin filter at all and therefore didn't notice the threaded screw. I emailed all of my concerns to Mazda and have given them over a week to respond, but just tumbleweeds at this point. I'm sure that they are not the only garage preying on consumers like a pack of hungry wolves, but this level of negligence and dishonest practices is totally unacceptable. We will never be giving Harris Mazda our business again and strongly advise looking elsewhere for your automotive needs. We will be getting the car checked by a local mechanic. It will be interesting to see if their view of the car matches up with what we were told. I'll update the review if there are any further updates in the coming weeks. read more

I had the most excellent experience, in buying my new (used) vehicle at Harris Mazda. The sales person (Tyler) was incredibly attentive and easy to talk to, a good listener at what my needs were, and fun to deal with. The financials came through quickly with the help of Jeanine. They brought the car right to me on Salt Spring Island, and allowed me to trade my little vehicle in with ease. Bought a used car a few months back from Harris Mazda. Overall good experience, definitely not the worst. Typical car salesman mentality, they're your best friend! Not the first time buying a car from a dealer so we were prepared for the typical sales pitch formality. The sales person was pleasant and accommodating and we were able to get everything we wanted at the price we wanted to pay. We took the car on a long test drive and conversed about how much we had in common... Nothing here to complain about really, pretty typical. I would have given 4-5 stars if it wasn't for the financier's persistent push for add on protections, extended Mazda warranty and accessories. His 'friendly' demeanor changed when we gave him firm NO's on anything extra. He made condescending comment about 'you have good enough credit for this car loan but good luck trying to get one for a house'... My wife and I own our house, but thanks for your concern... If this came from the sales person we would have walked away. At the time Mazda had some sort of promotion where the extended warranty was greatly discounted (still around $1000). How the extended warranty works is if you don't end up using it you get it back at the full original price. Basically if we don't use any of it we would be making money off the rebate from Mazda. ...that's the gist of it. Regardless of this promotion we didn't want it. He asked us 8 times about the extended warranty. The final time he questioned us about it everything had been finalized, we were filling out insurance papers and getting plates. He interrupted us by asking 'why we were walking away from free money and why we didn't want it' to which I replied. 1. I still have to fork out an extra $1000+ on top of what I was already paying. 2. I have to wait X amount of years for that extended warranty expire to reap the benefits. 3. Extended warranties are just another cash grab, you still have to pay a deductible on any repairs!!! ...so NO, that's why. He walked away without adding us to his extend warranty quota for the period. No congrats on our purchase or even a goodbye, just walked away. Good thing he's not a sales person. Like I said overall good experience. We got what we wanted, we were happy when we drove off the lot. My wife loves her little red car. Oh... side note: both the sales person and the financier kept telling us that the car was going to receive a FULL detailing. According to them this detailing was a $400 value that we were getting for free!! Wow! A $400 car wash, thanks! They seemed really excited about telling us, even the manager told us! My wife and I shared their over zealousness for this detailing package and we kept bring it up throughout the entire transaction. 'We can't wait to see the $400 car wash' 'What does a $400 car wash look like?' 'You had us at free car wash!' You're Mazda not "Bob's Used Car Emporium" Don't patronize us... It's a used car, of course you're going to wash it before you let us take it off the lot. We could tell they loved out sarcastic excitement over the money they saved us there... We were surprised they didn't say they were going to wave the fee to fill up our tires with air. Thanks Mazda! Zoom, Zoom! read more

I strongly urge you to not get any sort of auto service done here!! I thought my experience was maybe a one off in some way however after reading more than one review of the EXACT same thing happening to other people I can now say that they are absolutely taking advantage and scamming people. I recently had my vehicle towed into Mazda as my car wouldn't move when put into gear. I suspected it was the break pad rusting to the side causing it to not move or seize thinking a small cheap repair) I was shocked when I got a call from Mazda saying that it was going to be a $2000 job as my entire rear break system had seized and needed to be replaced entirely before I could even drive it. I felt off about this news and decided to have it towed to another mechanic shop who specialize in brakes where I was called immediately and told that my entire rear break system is absolutely fine with lots of material left on everything. It was the parking break that seized. Thank god for the second opinion dodged a major bullet/major bill! The fix actually only costed $125. Don't go here. read more

I have been taking my Mazda vehicle into the service department at Harris Mazda for the last 3 years for regular tune ups and oil changes. Each time I end up paying for additional service or parts I didn't think I needed. This last time I took my vehicle in for a quick winter tire swap. I was called and advised that my front and rear brakes both needed to be replaced urgently and they quoted me over $2500 dollars. They used "scare tactics" by telling me that the rear brakes had completely seized and that the vehicle was unsafe and should not be driven home. I left with my vehicle (and didn't notice anything strange about my breaks). I took my car to another mechanic for a second opinion. They called me to let me know there was absolutely nothing wrong with my brakes. When I went to pick up the car I brought the quote Mazda had given me and asked them to have a look at it. The mechanic was completely shocked at how ridiculous it was. I called Mazda and left a detailed message for the service manager to call me with an explanation and they didn't even have the decency to return my call. read more

Someone broke into my car in Vancouver and stole a bunch of things by smashing my back window in. I had to leave immediately after seeing this to catch a ferry to the island. It was Saturday of a long weekend and all the glass shops were closed until the Tuesday; even if they were open, none of them would be able to get a part in from Vancouver until the Tuesday, when I would be leaving for Seattle. I was extremely distraught and went to Harris Mazda in Nanaimo around 3:45 to see if they could help me. I believe it was an hour and a bit before their closing time and Derek, the service advisor, offered to have them take a window out of one of their vehicles on the lot and replace mine in my Mazda3. I didn't even know that could be done. He had it done by 5pm. It was a very traumatic day for me but they were able to lift a huge weight and stress off my shoulders by offering that service. I'm extremely gracious they were able to help in the way they did. One of the best customer service experiences I've ever had, especially considering the situation. Thank you so much. read more

My experience with Harris Mazda began wonderfully upon buying my car, and then slowly dwindled when customer service became an issue. The staff at this branch have none. I have constantly been promised someone will get back to me or "look into my issue" and no one ever does, so once I contact them again I am made the same promises and nothing ever comes of it. Vicious circle. I wish the staff at the Harris Mazda in nanaimo would treat me the way they did when I bought my car - with respect and decency like I deserve as a customer spending a lot of money at their establishment. If the staff cannot even find the time of day to get back to me about a customer service issue after several several phone calls and attempts on my behalf, I will NEVER recommend this dealership to anyone. When I trade in my 2016 Mazda 3 I will NOT be doing it with Harris Mazda and perhaps a dealership with a bit more professionalism and courtesy. read more
