I really like this location we have a location close to our house but this one has a bigger variety and has a much nicer esthetic to our location. I have been greeted by employees pretty quickly upon walking in and they have a pizza shop in this location which is nice. This location also seems to have more items in stock and less empty shelves. Prices are typical for the grocery stores in this area. This location is busier so sometimes there is a little wait to get through check out. read more

They must save their good service for afternoons and weekends because I've yet to receive a smile from anyone (manager, cashier, stock person, etc.) during the morning. Most of the time I'm treated like an inconvenience, which is really upsetting seeing that I'm there almost every week, spend good money thanks to their ballooning prices, have my cards and coupons ready to go, and always smile and say thank you to anyone who helps. The Harris Teeter Pharmacy on Martin Luther King Parkway in Durham did not have my medication. The technician at that location found the medication I needed at the Harris Teeter Pharmacy on Horton Rd. in north Durham and transferred my prescription to that location. The technician from the Harris Teeter Pharmacy on Martin Luther King called me and told me that my prescription would be ready later in the afternoon yesterday. I left work at 4:30 yesterday afternoon and drove 20 minutes out of my way to the Harris Teeter Pharmacy on Horton Rd. I went to the pharmacy and waited 5 minutes while the pharmacy technician had a personal conversation with a coworker. After 3 or 4 minutes the pharmacy tech came to the register, asked my date of birth, which I provided to her, asked my name which I provided to her. She put the information into the computer system and said that my prescription was not ready and that the Harris Teeter on Martin Luther King had not finished one step in the process to complete the transfer of my prescription to the Horton Rd. location. It was at this moment she dismissed me and made it very clear that she was not going to pick up the telephone to call the Martin Luther King Parkway store and ask for the process to be completed. I then told her to cancel the prescription. I suppose I could have complained to her manager or to the pharmacist but my thought on the matter is why bother? The technician's behavior is symptomatic of a cultural problem at the Harris Teeter location on Horton Rd. Mind you, my experience with the Harris Teeter pharmacy on Martin Luther King is not much better. Reduced gas prices or not, I will find another pharmacy to do business with. read more

Once again Harris Teeter on Horton Road disappoints. Today while I was in the store I was looking down at something in the dairy aisle and looked up and right next to me was a man with a huge collie dog in a backpack. To say the least it was surprising and upsetting. So I went to the front desk to talk to the people there because I know that dogs are not allowed unless they're on a leash. And then they have to be some sort of service dog. So when I spoke to them about it ...the person at the desk was far from helpful. She said that nothing could be done about it. So I asked to speak to the manager. When he came over and I shared my story about being upset and frightened by finding this dog right there almost in my face next to me in the dairy aisle he had laughed! When I asked him if he could do something about it he said he could do not. This is very poor customer service. read more

I usually get the Breakfast Sandwich (bacon or sausage, egg, and cheese) on a bagel, croissant, or biscuit, which is only $2.49. If you add orange juice, it's only $2.99 for the combo! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Today I went in and I asked a department team member which was the correct item on sale. He told me that the one I grabbed was the right one. So when I get up to the register it didn't ring up correctly. I asked if that was not the right one on sale. She grabbed the (I'm assuming) manager on duty what the correct item was and she gave me some serious attitude. She was just saying it's per pound and not explaining it correctly. I didn't understand and so she finally went to go get the item to show me. Was very rude when she brought the item to show me. Was very displeased with the bad customer service she treated me like I was an idiot. She didn't smile or anything. The cashier she was very nice though, friendly and was trying to make me laugh to lighten up the situation. This location generally has good selection (including beer & wine) and is clean, well organized, and well-managed. I've heard others complain about the customer service at Harris Teeter being awful, but this location does not suffer for this at all. The folks that work there have, without exception, been very friendly and attentive. What I really like is that they almost always open new lanes if more than a couple people are waiting in any single lane (the store manager even came out and ran a checkout lane to get us out once). For some reason though, they are, from time to time, missing some items we'd expect to find in a major grocery chain like this. I've been going to this HT location since it opened (two or three years). It's the closest grocery store to me. Since I have been going for awhile, I have gotten to know some of the staff and they are very friendly. It's nice to go in and have a chat with them. In general, I have had many positive experiences with the staff. Recently, I was in the meat department looking for cornish hens. There were none out. I spoke to an employee who said they had just received a shipment and the hens had not yet been put out. He told me to go ahead and shop and they would be waiting for me when I was done. Sure enough, I went back to the meat department on my way to the register and they had pulled them for me. Instead of just handing them to me, the gentleman wanted to know if the size was ok or if I needed some that were smaller/larger. I find these type of interactions to be typical and not the exception. The selection of items at HT are good. Rarely do I have to go to another store because HT didn't have what I needed. I even found organic shortening there when I needed it! Sometimes they seem to have things that I think they won't. I would bet that if they didn't have it they would try to get it for you. I can't say that 100%, because I've never experienced it, but they strike me as the kind of place that would do that. The only area I think they could improve in is with bagging. I like all my cold items to be bagged together. Meats should be bagged together or separately. It's pretty normal to find my cold items relatively together with some spread out over other bags that contain non-cold items. Sometimes the meats get bagged with items that are not meat. Sometimes I get to the car and notice that they have made one bag pretty heavy and while I can lift it, I have had more than one bag rip open on me (thankfully the items landed in the car and not on the ground). read more

This store used to be a clean,friendly place for fresh groceries, unfortunately not so anymore. Nobody greets you, or ask if you need anything. Had to return items on multiple occasions. Milk that had a weird odor, lettuce mix that had a smell to it , etc. If you ask for something from the Deli, it's like you ruined someone's day. This particular Harris Teeter is a store built around kids for the benefit of parents. From the "families with small kids" parking spots that are even closer than the handicapped, to the welcoming, getting-to-know-you staff, this grocery store is tops. By the time your kids have hit every sample stand from the fresh fruit over to the bakery - including the big old "Dragon Cookie" every child gets for free, they will be mellowed out enough for you to get the real shopping done. I've had to pull the store manager to side several times to tell him about some little off-hand kindness his employees have done for me and/or my kids...up to and including begging a dosage cup off the pharmacy with which to give my infant daughter a little sip out of the water fountain. YES, you can find a cheaper loaf of bread at Food Lion, and if you NEED a cheaper loaf of bread, you should go there. If you are, however, a middle-of-the-road American parent, and you value service, hospitality and safety above a dime, a nickel and three pennies, then it is completely worth the eighteen cents extra to take your kids to the Horton Rd. I received a bunch of coupons to use at the new Harris Teeter on Roxboro Road. I have never been a HT fan but I love a bargain as much as anyone else so decided to give it a shot now that they reopened. HT does not impress one bit. Extremely pricey, not a huge selection of anything. I still miss Kroger ALOT and will continue to go to Food Lion and take advantage of their much better coupons and deals and if I need something fancier I will continue going out of my way to Publix, Sprouts or Lowes Foods near Brier Creek. For me, it is worth the drive. read more

I really like this Harris Teeter, they have a great wine selection! My only complaint is that the staff in the deli/bakery can benefit from some training on hand hygiene. I usually get my bread sliced and most of the staff never change their gloves. One day a lady was cleaning with a rag and she took my loaf and sliced it and when she gave it back to me the bag was all wet and there was moisture on the inside of it ... gross. I had to leave it, the bread is already almost $5. Usually have some pre-sliced if you go early but when I do have to get one sliced I dread it and have to scope out who is working. One guy is very good about it, he will even make sure you see him change his gloves. Other than that, it's a neat place and I believe it's 24 hours, don't quote me on that though. read more

Harris Teeter is my jam! About five years ago, I was tired of shopping at Whole Foods (read: Whole Paycheck), but wanted a pleasant shopping experience. The Harris Teeter on Horton Road fit the bill perfectly. The store is clean and spacious and carries a swell variety of groceries. The prices are higher than Food Lion, but the improved customer service at Harris Teeter more than makes up for the slight price increase. Every time I shop at this Harris Teeter, I see and am greeted by at least one or two of the staff members (in the produce section, in the aisles, or at the self-checkout). I also really like that the staff are knowledgeable, helpful, and critically thinking people. (Why are people who can think critically so rare these days?! ;) Another plus of this store (and any store really) is the clearance section. (The clearance section consists of a shelving unit and sometimes carts located between the soda aisle, medicine section, and checkout aisles. I have gotten everything from travel sized lotion and sunscreen, to a pastry cutter, to face and body wash -- all at an excellent discount. It feels like winning the grocery lottery really. Finally, if an item rings up at the register higher than the listed shelf price, they will give you one of the item for free. read more

We started using this Harris Teeter pharmacy when Kroger closed. So far we're not impressed. It's a coin toss whether they will have your meds in stock, they are slow, and customer service is lacking. They will see you waiting and essentially ignore you while they do other things behind the counter (even if they are not that busy). Thinking of finding another pharmacy. read more

HT can be expensive...but it's worth the extra $ because the employees at this location are wonderful. Caroline and Elijah are star employees. Every time I visit the store Caroline remembers me and speaks to me. I feel comfortable shopping here since all the surrounding stores have really fallen apart over the past 10 years. Things may be pricier but the quality of produce is much better than Kroger and Food Lion nearby. read more

Okay so this HT is better than many of the others around R/D/CH in that it seems larger with a bit more to choose from. They also opt for the more economical sushi, which I'm all for. The others only have 10-dollar specialty rolls and I just want the bare basic ones for 8 bucks. It stinks less, has a bigger bakery, and better looking things including employees than the other stores around the area. Otherwise it seems exactly the same as the others. This Harris Teeter location is about 10 miles from my house ( and worth the visit). This store has the best customer service. The manager Chris is polite, respectful and always so helpful. I ordered a case of wine from another HT ( which was never ordered) for a party I was having. After calling every day with no luck I picked up the phone and called this location on Horton Rd. Chris took care of it immediately. This is not the only reason I rate this location so well. As mentioned previously they have the best customer service not to mention an excellent selection. Don't dare ask the other HT if they have fresh basil ( you may get you head bitten off lol). read more
