The Food Lion chain has stores all over the state, and I have been to many over the years. They have been maligned in some places for poor sanitation and a host of other sins. When I moved to this area a year ago, I still went to other stores, because where I lived previously, the FL had a pretty poor showing. That is not this store. This store is clean, well-stocked with quality items, and has a great deli and fresh food section. They sell individual meal kits (Wegman's calls them "gold foil" dinners) for about half the price of that larger store. And it's about a mile from my house. And it's open until 11 every day. It's rare to find a super clean and well-organized Food Lion! It's definitely a hit or a miss in this area. This particular location is spacious and most importantly -- awesome customer service! Most of the checkout lanes were opened as well. The only negative is the parking lot, please drive carefully because the parking lot is kinda crazy. Woodlake Community Private group · Once upon a time when I was Martha Stewart's food stylist, part of my job was to pick up "perfect" ingredients from a certain market in NYC before heading up for a work day at Turkey Hill in Conn. Everything had to be fresh, and blemish-free. It had to be prepared and photographed that same day and turned into an eternal picture of food that was beautifully presented...I learned to shop well. We are blessed to have some wonderful markets nearby. If I want a fresh, never refrigerated peach or cantaloupe Perkins Market, so convenient for us at Woodlake is the place...To my delight, if I want a bargain, good quality food in a well-organized and exceptionally clean store, my first go-to store is the newly renovated Food Lion, just down the parkway...The "grab and go" is the best deal and just look at that price in the photos below. They have salmon, steak and chicken with a fresh side. It is so easy to pop into the oven and have directions...There is a special now for a whole chicken at $1 a lb. A no-seed, English-style cucumber is the same price. The artichokes are tightly closed and the asparagus "fat." They have the cutest little vine-ripened mini tomatoes grown in NC...Not to deter from me as a personal chef who "Cooks in your Nook," where we prep, cook, serve and clean, this is for everyday shopping for you with a family or a single person who wants to pick up something fresh, healthy and easy...Even Martha would approve! Since the Kroger closings we have been trying to find our new grocery store. Food Lion seems to be the best priced in comparison to what we are used to. I can usually find everything on my list here, so I can avoid going to multiple stores (which is a must for me). We recently went in on a Monday evening and it was packed! There were very long checkout lines, but the staff did their best to get everyone through quickly. Not sure if this is a typical Monday evening, but it was way more crowded than when we have shopped on the weekend! Staff have all been very pleasant during our visits. I use the Food Lion app and have a MVP card attached to it so I can load coupons to my card. read more

UPDATE: I spoke to the store manager in charge of customer service, Deonte. He listened, apologized, and offered me a gift card. It still may be a while before I go back to that store, though. have shopped at this store for 15 years and have been more than satisfied with its customer service, cleanliness, and prices. But after my experience Last night, I did but I will ever return. A very rude, belligerent woman who felt entitled to to jump ahead in a checkout line to add several items to large order that the cashier had just completed. I expressed my dissatisfaction with this patently obvious strategy. But she was allowed to get in front of me. She made abusive comments to me. When their checkout had been completed, instead of leaving the store, the two women decided to pay for my groceries after the cashier began ringing up my small order, though I didn't catch on to their plan at first. The rude woman parked herself back at the counter, so I could not add my MVP info. She began speaking to the cashier in a quieter voice and watched the screen as my items were being rung up. At one point she ordered me to move my cart because it was in her personal space. I refused, and she shoved my cart into meand then loudly made it known she was paying for my groceries. She started making demeaning comments about my lack of gratitude, etc. I told the cashier I would pay for my own groceries. The indifferent employees did not respond to my requests to speak to a manager. One raised his voice and demanded to know what I expected them to do. I was frightened and appalled. read more

This is one of three Food Lion locations within relative driving distance from my home, and in my opinion it's the cleanest and most well-run. Prices are much cheaper than Harris Teeter although selection of high-end items is less. There's plenty of parking in the Woodcroft Shopping Center and the aisles are relatively clear when I've visited (other Food Lions I visited had crowded aisles with palets of merchandise waiting to be stocked). This is not my regular grocer store but is good for a quick visit for a few items. read more

I love this store! I'm a weekly shopper so I see it all. This location is always clean, neat, well stocked and the staff friendly and helpful. Easter week I asked for help finding an obscure item like "kitchen string" to tie up a stuffed roast and sure enough a nice gentleman found it! I especially commend the produce staff for keeping the department well stocked with the best product. The selection is not over-whelming like a big box store and I like that. I don't want to spend 5 hours grocery shopping. I don't really need to see 12 different kinds of mustard. The entry way employee always makes sure my cart is sanitized and wishes me a good day. The parking is large with no stray carts banging around and several ways to exit the lot so no congestion. Thanks for doing a great job. It's a pleasure to shop at Food Lion. read more

The rotisserie chickens are the best all around than in any deli/bakery store in Durham in my opinion because they're very moist and delicious and I purchase at least two or three a week and if I don't be an early bird to buy them I got to wait until the next day to purchase them. And the ones that are cold may I add they are delicious also. You can't go wrong with those rotisserie chickens. That's a plus for me and a blessing for me to purchase them from that particular Food Lion among other items as well. The staff is so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable A shout out to Ms. Jocine. She gives exceptional excellent customer service every time whether she's at the customer service desk or getting carts or cashiering or whatever her role is. I appreciate her pleasantness her smile. I would give this a minus 5, if I could. I was there at 10:30 this morning. At the check out line, there were two cashiers at the adjoining check out line talking (no customers where in their queue). In order to avoid being within 1 ft. of them for any length of time, I asked my cashier if she could swipe my card. She said "no"; I asked if the other cashiers could move. They said "no". My cashier called over someone that appeared to be in authority and told her that I wanted the other cashiers to move. Her response was "no, we have a business to run here". Apparently management and cashiers do not understand that we are in a health emergency where 6' social distancing applies to everyone, when plausible, including essential businesses. Apparently the manager does not understand that their business is supported by their customers that need to be healthy in order to visit their store. read more

Affordable prices all round and often has toilet paper and cleaning supplies unlike Harris Teeter. The place is old looking, but clean.

I have been going to this location for over a decade. Recently I received incredibly rude service by a checkout associate who delivered several verbal micro-aggressions during my transaction. I later complained to the manager, Brandon, who appeared helpful and offered a gift card, but I never received it and he did not return my calls. I also spoke with Martin, the District Manager, and he also did not return my calls or get me this promised gift card. I called corporate and got nowhere, ad again was falsely promised callbacks that were never made. Clearly they do not respect and value their customers and this rude and unprofessional experience leaves me with a bad impression of this Corporate chain which I will never recommend or patron again. read more

I was trying to call to make sure my doctor transferred my prescription to the right place and they kept picking up the phone and hanging up on me. I admit I probably annoyed her calling back to back but she kept doing it. after like 8 times she picked up and told me they got it, so I asked when I should come get it (trying to be nice so I didn't show up and rush her) and she changed her tone of voice and said she was alone and "hadn't even touched the damn paperwork just come in a few hours" and I said im trying to be nice and Im sorry she was understaffed and she hung up on me mid Sentence if I asked if I came in an hour and a half and I heard her slam it because she obviously missed the first time she tried to hang up. The time she told me to come back was probably gonna be after close and there's no way she didn't do that on accident. I have never done a yelp review but I work in a fast paced environment that's over 100 degree weather constantly and I took it out on a customer I'd get fired. So if you see my Yelp check-ins you understand I am the Duchess of Food Lion in Chapel Hill. However.......... I did not like this Food Lion. I understand each store will be set up differently, but the lay-out is rather awkward to me. It's very congested in the front even without heavy customer traffic. The parking lot also had way too much going on. The store itself appeared to have the same items, but I was in and out. I probably won't be back here as a personal preference. When visiting a Food Lion, I know I will be able to get the basic grocery items but usually nothing niche-y and the choices can be limited. An example - Harris Teeter has about 5 choices of horseradish, which seems a little more than necessary. Food Lion might have about 1-2. This is one of the only Food Lions I have been to that has self-checkout. It's clean, not to crowded (even on Saturday) and has ample parking. read more

Very rude employees at the Woodcroft Food Lion in Durham. Don't bother trying to get deli service. I've been ignored, been told to come back later-they're busy, told they didn't have a product I knew they had. The cashiers are often rude. I bring my bags and it's fine if they don't want to help me pack my bags, and just want to stand there. But it's very rude to start checking out the next customer while I'm trying to pack my bags. Recently, the next customers items started mixing with mine because I was still packing. I had been coming here out of convenience to the location. But after today's service. Enough is enough. It's gotten much worse over last few months and it's not just one rude cashier or deli clerk. It's many! I never see supervisors monitoring their cashiers like I do at other Food Lions. Management needs to step up and teach their employees customer service skills! I've been a cashier and deli clerk and never treated people like this. read more

I live midway between two Food Lions-- Lakewood and Woodcroft. I've also been to a Food Lion in Chapel Hill in the Eastgate area on occasion. I've heard comments that the selection isn't as good as a Harris Teeter. Well, I gave up Harris Teeter after shopping there for many years. HT does have a larger selection of items, but I prefer Food Lion mainly because it is smaller and easier and quicker to get around than HT. Food Lion employees are friendlier, and it does have the brand names that I like AND they are much cheaper than HT. I know some of the employees by name, like the wonderful Mr Parker in Produce and Brandon, the Manager, who is hands on and can be seen helping out with whatever needs to be done. I hope the new owners of the Lakewood Shopping Center appreciate that this is EXACTLY the type of supermarket that this neighborhood needs and appreciates. read more

It's a good thing they have self checkout. If for any reason you must use the clerk checkout, they will always make you wait. The clerks are not very well trained, so they need assistance from other clerks for almost everything. They're constantly calling each other over for help. Great that it's a team effort, but not great that it takes forever! read more
