Today is my birthday. I woke up to find that one of my tires had a drywall screw sticking out of it, and it bummed me out. The last thing I wanted to do on my birthday was have to buy a new tire. The screw was slightly in the sidewall, and I thought a new tire was inevitable. I took my car in, and they were able to patch it. I was relieved, and once they learned it was my birthday, the guy working there (Mitch) told me to have a happy birthday and gave me a bill for $0.00. TOTALLY MADE MY DAY. read more

Brought my car in for a tire patch, just a small nail that had caused the tire pressure warning light to come on. I get my car back and it's making a terrible metal scraping sound from the same tire they pulled for repair. Tried multiple times to call and let them know, but Jerry answered and was extremely rude and short when I explained the situation. I am a female college student with multiple years of working on vehicles under my belt and my father is a mechanic. When my dad called the shop, Jerry had a full conversation with him and was very respectful to him unlike how my calls had gone. Finally just brought it in and was given a time frame, which they went several hours over and when I called to check on it Jerry answered and again was extremely short and tried to get me off the phone quickly. When I finally got a call to pick it up, they claimed that the reason for the noise was my e-brake had been left on. I had placed the parking brake on when I parked at the shop and the mechanic did not release it when they pulled into the garage. The metal shrieking is still there and now my tire is clicking when pulled on after they removed it again, which very well means they put my tire on incorrectly. I will not be going back to this shop and do not recommend it, especially if you are a woman. I was treated very poorly and as if I was some stupid little girl by people who don't even know to check to make sure the parking brake is off before driving a vehicle. read more

I took my car in for an inspection. I knew I had a brake light out, so I replaced it before I took it in. After I replaced it, I checked all the rear lights. They all worked forty-five minutes before they looked at my car When they inspected it, they said there was a rear light out (not the one I'd replaced). I told him I had just replaced a bulb and checked all the rear lights. The clerk stood there until I just told him to go ahead. It's a relatively small thing...$15 or so, but it would have been more hassle and time to argue, so I won't be recommending them. You be the judge. I'm just relating my experience. read more

Re: today at wards rd So nothing is wrong with my car and it's not ticking anymore: my appointment was at 11am and after 2 1/2 hours I asked Mike. Here's my exact words. Hey Mike, my appointment was at 11 and I was just curious as to if we know what might be wrong with my car yet? The guy Gerry yells across at me your appointment was at 11:00 for your oil change that's been done! We are waiting for someone to get it in to see if there is anything wrong with it. It was crowded and people were getting in and out I wasn't rude and I was shocked how he spoke to me. I said thank you Mike and sat back down. 3 minutes later that same rude man says yours cars done. I said was there anything wrong with it? He said nope? I reset it. I said okay I was not trying to be rude and I was just asking a question. He cut me off and said yeah, yeah ah hu ah hu. He gave me my receipt I said thank you and he walked off. Like I had personally attacked him. Mike had asked him after I walked off originally can we just check her car real quick so we can get her out? She's been here along time. Gerry is the man at the Wards rd location that I am talking about. I have been coming to them for years. I have never been treated this way. I scheduled my appointment last week for today and called back and told them my check engine light came on. They told me to drop my car off Friday. When I got there I wasn't on the books so they told me they would take care of everything today. I understand that things take time. I was just curious. I wasn't rude. Btw another woman came in and she was being a smart axx and he called her an fckng bixch when she left. I have never been treated this way. It makes me feel like I don't want to come back. I take care of my elderly mom, grandson and my husband works of town. I just wanted to make sure my car was good so I didn't get stuck anywhere. Matt was great when he was there. Mike is great. Had had Harris Tire installed 4 brand new tires, on a 2008 Chrysler Aspen. Which was over $1100.00. They damaged all four wheels on their balancing machine, they admitted the employee did it! Now they won't make it right! Inexperienced employees & a manager that doesn't care! I won't trust them again! I like to keep my dollars local, no more! I had some wheel damage during a flat tire repair at Harris Tire on Lakeside Drive. I showed it to Kyle the manager who was very polite and agreed his shop was responsible. At first he thought it could be repaired. After about two weeks and a couple phone calls, he swapped out the damaged wheel with a new one at no cost. I was very impressed with this level of service. I got my last set of tires from them, and I'll get my next set from them as well. Thanks for the great service. read more

Customer no service! I received nothing but the runaround when the valve cover gaskets they replaced began leaking again a few weeks later. They needlessly replaced an oil plug. Over filled the oil, over tightened and damaged the oil filter. I arranged to leave the vehicle with them for the 6th time, only to be told no-one wrote the appointment in and they then had the nerve to ask if I could leave it for several days. Was told I could only file a complaint via email. A week later and no response from Harris tire. Next stop, the BBB! read more

My wife and I were traveling home to Richmond from Smith Mountain Lake with our travel trailer when we noticed a bulge in one of the trailer tires. We were referred to Harris by a local RV store. I called and spoke to Mike one of the I'm assuming mangers of the location. If he is not a manager he should be. Mike was awesome. He got us right in and set up safely and then the installer was waiting for us once we got parked. He immediately started on us and was very polite and professional. I wish I had gotten his name too but he was a great example of going above and beyond. Mike even came down to help with the install. I went there for an oil change and everything was fine. My brakes went and needed to be replaced, being new to the area I took my automobile there. It was over $400. I was not happy with the price when the Dealership In Lynchburg was $100 less. I went in recently to have a vehicle inspection; a young guy was there, not personable at all. When I set an appointment I asked, "Approximately how much a tune-up would be" He said " That depends, it could be anywhere from $300. To a $1000." I said I just needed an approximate for spark plugs and wires. He was unpleasant repeated himself and very cocky/arrogant. I said, " Wow!" I left and will not be back. Good mechanics is important, customer relations is extremely important, 'Approximates most mechanics have given me, so if he wanted to encourage me as a repeat customer he did the opposite! I was told by friends in the area not to go there and I ignored them I should have listened- most told me they would try to sell me tires, more mechanical work and were over priced in comparison to others I went to. I guess we can add arrogance! and were over priced. YEP! Not going there anymore. read more

I've been here twice now. Once for a new set of tires and a second time to get a tire plugged. Both times the customer service was great and I was in and out with problems. Had a radiator core replaced in September of 13 while visiting from out of state. Price was reasonable. Courteous work. Core failed six months later. Brought it back for service. Scheduled for 1 pm on a Wednesday. They didn't get to it as they were "busy." Same story the next day. A day and a half tying up my car and hadn't even looked at it. Picked up the car as I had to return home with a malfunctioning core. Not happy. read more

Had a very good experience here- quick and courteous service, 4 new tires, installed and so forth- didn't try to over sell me- I was in and out in 45 minutes- at a great price. I'd recommend them. Later, when I ran over a bolt and got a puncture, they attended to it with no muss or fuss under the road hazard coverage for which I had paid $9.50 or so. read more

I have brought my car to them several times for the same issues over and over again. They always have an excuse as to why something went wrong but it is always their fault because they do not make sure they are fixing the right thing. I have gotten my car "fixed" by them and the same problem happens and I bring it back because I refuse to pay them for something that they have not even fixed. These people clearly have a different definition of "appointment" than I do. I scheduled a week ahead for an oil change, tire rotation and asked them to try to identify an engine noise. Mentioned the noise again when I brought the car. Left to do an errand, coming back 1.5 hours later, glad to see the car in a new spot, so I assumed the work was done. Not even close! Tires had been rotated, but I was told it would be about 2 more hours for the oil change, and I'd have to make a separate return apt. For the engine noise. Why couldn't they have said so when I first called! And over 3 hours for an oil change? How many of you have 3-4 hours to sit around for an oil change? And to come back again for another concern? Needless to say I left, went elsewhere and had everything taken care of an hour later. My last trip to Harris! read more

I got all 4 tires changed on my vehicle. I was originally quoted that it would take 45 minutes to change the tires after they were delivered from a nearby warehouse. After my car was finally done it had taken 3 hours. They did a satisfactory job, but their customer service was extremely poor, and on more than one occasion during the installation I was told "just 30 more minutes" for it to turn out to be another hour. We are new to the Lynchburg/Forest area of Virginia. Needed 4 new tires on our 2011 Honda CRV after a 2,600 mile drive from south of Guadalajara, Mexico. Some rough roads. One of the local stores recommended Harris Tires. We chose a date/time for an appt. No problem. They got us in right away. We picked out the tires and took a walk while they were being mounted and balanced. We returned after about an hour. The car was not ready because I left the key for the locking lug nuts at home. Frankie, the Manager, tried to help which did not work out so well. In short; they made a mistake. Then, more than made up for it. Frankie went "overboard" correcting the situation. They seemed high priced but..sometimes you get what you pay for; and we definitely did. We highly recommend Harris Tire. This place is very dishonest. I had my brand new (to me) vehicle inspected here. The employee who inspected it damaged the bumper. I had called earlier to see if it was done, but no one mentioned the damage then. I go to pick it up, and an employee runs out to let me know of the damage. I called, visited, and spoke with managers for months on end. It is nearly a year later and I still have not heard from their insurance company which they assured me would contact me. Don't ever go here as this isn't the first instance I've heard of dishonest dealings and jacked-up prices. read more

Used to be a loyal customer. As far as customer experience they are top notch. The guys in sales are awesome, nice, sincere, and humorous! However, our last and final experience was the "I'm out of here" for us. We put our BMW in the shop for new tires and spark plugs - a near $1100 bill. Tires are wonderful and service was all in all good (meaning, our car wasn't skipping anymore from a failed spark plug). However, we bought and brought all of our parts directly from Germany for the engine work. Harris failed to let me know which sparks the coolant packs went on or if they even used them or kept them - no details on the bill. Bill shows a front end alignment but they didn't provide me with the before and after chart showing it was actually aligned (not sure if this is lack of software but I know Firestone and other places do provide this). Additionally, we picked up our car to a total of 4 chips out of the paint on the fenders and two scratches. When I called about this I was assured they DO have fender pads that they should have used and that what happened shouldn't have happened.. but that's it. It did happen and they offered to do nothing about it. Also noted, last oil change they had dumped so much oil on our engine we thought there was a leak. I drive a significant amount of miles and typically change my oil every other month (if that long). I drive an hour to Harris and see them often for maintenance but the lack of respect for my vehicle and business is unacceptable. The hunt for good car care is back on. read more

I've been going here as my primary mechanic for the past 9 years. I have rarely been dissatisfied with my service. I've owned a Saturn LS2, Honda Accord, Saab, and a BMW X3. They can do the most basic repairs outside of major engine and transmission. At one time they gave 10% off to Liberty Students. There have been a couple times where they missed something or tried to fix (a headlight) and it was done wrong but usually minor. Always nice. Joking around with each other. Communicate well. My main complaint is that they know very little about even slightly exotic cars such as BMW. When I lived in Houston it seemed normal for an average (no specialized) mechanic to know a decent amount about BMWs and how to fix them much cheaper than the dealership. However, (though no entirely their fault) Harris seems to struggle with these. Granted Lynchburg has far fewer BMWs and the like than Houston which could explain this. read more
