Confession time: ever since I read "13 little blue envelopes" I been obsessed with London. London landmarks, food and people. And of course, one of those landmarks being Harrods. It's a touristy thing, but you cannot come to London and not shop (or at least window-shop!) here. "Harrods is the kind of thing I think you only find in London" - it said in the book, "if you look hard enough, everything in the world is in there..." And from the pages of the book, it holds true when I visited it. I got lost in it, just like Ginny did, carried away by mobs of people around me... Floating from counter to counter, gawking at strange services and beautiful gifts, stopping for a bite to eat at the Terrace bar, and continuing on... Harrods is an institution. It's traditional. Impossible to navigate. Shops upon shops of nothing and everything. Somehow, it captures you and you get lost in this endless shopping world, until it spits you out back on Brompton Rd, and you just stand there, breathless, grasping your shopping bags and staring back at the awnings with gold letters that say one word in such a recognizable script - "Harrods". read more

Oh my. Felt like an absolute gangster walking around each department. A gangster with no money or involvement in crime. It was fun seeing which staff believed I was rich just by their facial expressions. Each department is filled with amazing items I would certainly by if I had the money to. I've also heard the pizza is amazing so will have to come back to try that! read more

SHOPPING HEAVEN!!!!! Did some shopping in Paris, but was not very satisfied with the experience. So, I was very excited after the boyfriend told me about Harrods! BEING OVERWHELMED NEVER FELT SO GOOD I was so excited to get my feet through the doors, that I literally ran in. I took a couple of leaps and ended up in makeup heaven. There were rooms and rooms filled with makeup, and all the high brands you could think of were in these rooms, waiting to be picked up and put into a bag! Never have I felt so overwhelmed being surrounded by so much makeup, because I had no idea where to start. Harrods is surely the store you want to visit if you're looking to spend money. Also, taking into account how massive this store is, I believe it's safe to say that they carry just about any brand you can think of. Whether it be makeup, clothing and/or handbags, you're going to find some of best high end brands here. Which will probably prolong your already long visit inside Harrods! =X I'LL BE BACK (in terminator voice) I unfortunately did not have the opportunity to walk around the entire store, BUT I will try to at least see each and every floor they have the next time I'm in London! read more

You cannot visit London without making your way to Harrods! Atleast I refuse. I walked through the stored amazed and mystified like McCaughly Culkin when he visited FAO Shwartz in Home Alone. The store had 6 floors, a retailer in clothing, travel goods, miscellaneous products and even in food.  There was a food hall and fresh market hall on the ground level.  According to the directory there were overall about 21 places to sit down and eat or grab a snack at either a restaurant, café, lounge or parlor.  This place was huge and a journey just to make our way through all the floor and getting overwhelmed but endless hallways and corridors filled with endless name brands. After going through most of the sections we finally ended up in the Harrods gift shop on the second floor.  In the gift shop there were so many souvenirs I wanted to take with me.  Especially the infamous Harrod's Bag! There were so many colors, patterns, and types of bags to possibly choose from.  And the lines although they looked long they moved pretty quickly.  I also liked the fact that I had the choice to charge my purchase in USD or pounds.  At first I felt that this store reminded me of Macy's on 34th street but to me it felt more elegant and definitely appeared much bigger, I can't count how many times we got lost in there during our visit.  Even when we walked alongside the building from the outside it seemed never ending.  I do feel that a lot of the merchandise and restaurants were way overpriced there but I would definitely go back to roam the halls for a day. read more

It is hard to hate a store like Harrod's, even if the wares they are peddling are often expensive, unnecessary, and utterly inconsequential to your happiness. As an experience, Harrod's gets these stars, not as a shopping destination per se. Quite simply, it is worth the visit to get some sense of what London consumer culture is (in part) all about. It's iconic and it's historic, but it is certainly not representative of how most Londoners eat, shop, or relax (go to Hyde Park for that). Like it, love it, or hate it, Harrod's is as much a London landmark as Big Ben or the Millennium Dome, and there are lots more levels to explore here. It's like all those great and gracefully aging commercial emporia that have somehow survived the e-commerce, big box age, like the Bay in Montreal, KaDeWe in Berlin, El Corte Inglés in Madrid, or Marshall Field & Co. in Chicago. You go to these places to relive history, rekindle childhood memories, or just stare in awe (or disgust, depending on your mood, or your politics) at what consumerism is capable of producing, and endlessly reproducing, in the 21st century. We spent a few fleeting hours at Harrod's last December, about three weeks before Christmas, so the place was gleaming and sparkly, filled up with amazing items and lots of shoppers. Like most retailers, December is make-or-break for Harrod's, so everything was at its peak, truly a sight to behold. The Christmas tree room alone was amazing (we ran through towards closing time), but we lingered the longest in the outstanding food court, looking through the spot-free glass at all the loveliest bits from cuisines across the globe. Occasionally, we picked something up to check the price (then put it down quickly), and we admired how stunning all those cheese, meat, vegetable, fruit, tea, candy, and biscuit displays looked. Then, we grabbed a pretzel from the bakery and collected a 3-tin set of loose teas (English Breakfast, Earl Grey, and Darjeeling) for taking with us back to the states. The pretzel was delicious, and the teas were superb. We now use the tins to store other loose tea that we buy in bulk, so it's been a gift that keeps on giving, and will do so for years to come. Seeing Harrod's in December is worth all the hassle in the world, I think. At least once in your lifetime, and maybe more if you happen to visit London on a regular basis. It's like a labyrinth inside and there is more than enough reason to get lost, at least for a few hours on an otherwise wet, dark, and windy afternoon in wintry London. I'd come back in a heartbeat, if only to get some more tins of tea. read more

The hell that is Harrods. It is an overcrowded, overpriced and claustrophobic. A store that has long been hailed as a national treasure and British Icon, has in recent years become the subject of much controversy. But aside from all that, purely as a customer or visiter, it is a difficult experience to stomach. The gondolas and displays are packed so close together that it is tough to navigate, and the staff are so overwhelmed by the amount of visitors that they are (understandably) disinclined to assist you. And with this being a prime part of london, surrounded by much better, more authentic, and fairly priced shops, I urge you to go elsewhere. Take a picture outside if you must, but if you value your life do not cross the gates of hell that are the doors to Harrods. read more

The best high end department store in the world! Of course everything in the store is ridiculously overpriced. They have all of the international designers you could think of. If you open a credit card, you get 15% discount on your first purchase. The Harrod's card can also be used if you shop on Harrod's on-line store. The basement is where the food court is, 8 pounds for a chocolate dipped strawberry. They have sushi, Middle Eastern foods, nuts, chocolates, and other international fares. p.s. there is also a mini Harrod's inside Heathrow Int'l Airport. read more

One of the most spectacular department stores in the world, by far. Harrods has something to offer for everyone. Extensive food halls with almost any goodie you could imagine - a great place to stop to get some treats to take home with you. There is also a Harrods store that offers more touristy items. The fashion is absolutely to die for - every luxury brand under the sun, gigantic diamonds and gems...you name it, they have it...they even have a bank where you can exchange gold bullion for pounds! It is worth at least a browse if you can handle the crowds, just to see how outrageous some of the merchandise is. read more

The actual store for Harrods is fine - not as wonderful as its reputation but fine. Customer service is okay and the selection is limited but fine. Not great but overall the in-store rating in a 3. However, do not EVER order anything online that needs to be shipped internationally. I have done so twice and - zero stars. The first time my order was stuck in Customs for over 2 weeks awaiting clearance - all that was required was for Harrods to give the package the okay. Three calls and two emails later they finally did. I was extremely unhappy with the service (via the phone) at Harrods but believed that this whole thing was a one-off. Fast forward to this time, again my package is stuck at Customs - I have no idea what Harrods does that its packages cannot go through Customs. I do not have this problem from any other store / country. Anyway - it is still at Customs so I call Harrods again and tell them that they need to provide clearance. I am informed that it will be done with "within the immediate future" - then the woman tries to hang up. Wait, I say, don't you need my order number to follow up? "Sure why not" she says (literally). I provide it and guess what ... nothing happens. So I have followed up with Harrods again - and this time told them that they can clear the package or have it sent back to them and give me my money back. Still have not heard back... read more

What can be said that hasn't been said. A British institution, and a must go when in London. Bear in mind, with service and quality of this magnitude, you get just what you pay for. Fantastic raw bar, wide selection of candies and teas from around the world, and the high tea at the . If you have the time, its unparalleled. Ive had high tea at the Ritz in London, Boston and NYC as well as at the Waldorf in Nyc and this one just cant be beat. read more

This is the creme de la creme of pet stores. They have almost no live animals in the store but that is the point. You can order almost anything you want here and have it delivered. The price range is outrageous but for the quality and convience what can you expect. read more

What can I say!! This is more than a department store! It's amazing, the clothes and the salespeople. The food was unbelievable, the cheese bread fruit meat fish were all fresh. I love making a stop at this London staple anytime I'm in London. One could spend hours here persuing. Not sure if the mainstream can actually afford to purchase much here given the high end nature of their store. My favorite places in the store are the Diana and Dodi Memorial located at the base of the Egypt Escalators and the Food Hall. The Food Hall is full of goodies from all various cultures and countries and the bakery items are amazing. A must see anytime you are in Knightsbridge! read more

Say what? How could one of my fellow tour group member never heard of Harrods before? Harrods is one of the awesomest department store. Nordstrom's, Macy, and Bloomies have nothing on this place. They have awesome selections on clothes, perfurme, make-up, etc. They even have their own section with their brand on it. Our tour guide mentioned there was a even a food court. Never knew that before! That food court is not your typical variety either (review to follow). Maybe it's just the shopper in me, but I heart Harrods. read more

I came to Harrods mainly as a tourist, not a shopper so I took it in as more like an art gallery. The high fashion was fantastic to look at and the Egyptian staircase was marvellous. They actually had an art gallery as well and their bookstore was awesome. read more

Holy luxury department store! The most expensive items I've ever seen in my life were seen here at Harrods. I never even knew things with such a price tag existed. 7 floors filled from wall to wall with all kinds of high end treasures. Some of my favorites included the £24,500 pen, £130,000 dining table (topped with cutlery and diningware for at least £1450 per piece) and a £15,000 gold shisha. Gotta wonder where the people who shop here get their money from! Of course there are some more reasonably prices items here as well, including a section of gifts for tourists on a budget. They really do have everything under the sun from furniture and appliances to Italian leather handmade luggage and the most luxurious handbags ever made. The Egyptian themed escalator and entry way was quite a sight to be admired. The shrine to Princess Di at the ground level was also quite worthy of admiration. Apparently there is a cafe here as well but sadly I was short on time and didn't get to roam around as long as I would have liked. If I wasn't on a time crunch I could honestly stay here all day. Stopping by Harrods is truly a key part of any true London experience. Not to be missed! read more

Harrods is a visually spectacular store that becomes unbearable during the summer sales. The labyrinthine corridors will leave you frustrated, and the hideous, tasteless memorial to Diana in the lower level will repulse you. I enjoy laughing at the outrageous couture in the pet boutique, though. Recommended for its food halls, though you're paying more to tote your tea and biscuits outside in that famous green bag. read more

Harrods is what every department store in the world must dream to be. It's damn expensive and I would probably never actually buy anything here if I still lived in London, but what a sight! The designer clothes and shoes, the glamorous entertainment in the escalator hall, the champagne and sushi bar and wine cellar... there's just an endless amount of fancy to enjoy here. A huge store filled with very expensive items. As a tourist, I wanted to see it after hearing so much about it. I was very impressed with the food items on display. They all appeared to be scrumptious, and the variety of things was truly impressive. I bought a few souvenir gift items for folks back home. its Harrods... its worth seeing if you are a tourist. I personally don't come here to shop or browse high end designer products I would rather be in Selfridges. Selfridges is more current and hip. Harrods is snobby and old...It is now owned by the country of Qatar and used to be owned by Egyptian Dodi Al-Fayed the boyfriend of Diana who died in the car crash in Paris with her. Harrods is a place where I always feel irritated by all the tourist and the snobby sales associates who are all forced to wear heels and black clothing. I get claustrophobic in there with the crowds of people and no windows to the outside world. I feel like a mouse trapped in a cage....its beautiful at christmas time with the lights and the window displays but Harrods is worth only going to if your a tourist. Most tourist only come out with a small bag of chocolates from the food floor as they just want the iconic bag but can't afford anything else in there. I also read that the door men have the right to deny you entry if they don't like what you are wearing. The sales staff look you up and down while judging you once they spot I had a Prada handbag they where all over me... I'm just looking and don't play that game with me... I know the game, Ive been a salesperson before too. They only get hopeful if I look like I have money. The attitude and pretentious of this place gets under my skin. I stepped into a shopper's paradise joined by all my friends - Jimmy C., Christian L. & D., Louis V. & Coco C.! I perused each aisle taking in ALL this store had to offer. Not only was the retail incredible, the food halls were AMAZING! They had a sweets & tea treasures room, candy wonderland, deli, meat market, farmer's market style fruit & veggie area, seafood section...I could go on & on! I picked up delicious chocolates, shortbread cookies and other souvenirs for my loved ones. Sat down at the sea grill as it was packed and enjoyed fish & chips for close to $40 USD. It's a pricey place to be but worth every lb! read more

Harrods is like the ultimate department store. Everything is so.... exact. To me it feels like a quintessential British institution and I love going and checking it out every time I'm in the area. It's not necessarily cheap, but if you want to feel like a king or queen this is the place to go! It has everything you could possibly want! I took my niece and nephew there and they went nuts in the kids toy section. I loved the huge variety of fragrances and handbags.... and there's even something for the guys with all the electronics. Even going to the toilet is an experience with fragrances and hand creams to try after you've washed your hands. Every visit to London should be accompanied with a trip to Harrods. read more

Being from England, I have a place in my heart for this department store. I know some locals call it "Horrids" but I love it. I think it has a great atmosphere and even though the staff must see thousands of people, they still remain customer friendly (like Nordstrom customer service). I love the array of designers that are offered all in one place. I believe this to be far more upscale than Barneys. If you're looking for something cool then this is the place to shop. Harrods prides itself on being a luxury store and I really love that! You can literally wander around for hours looking at all the cool goodies for sale.Unique and different. Eurgh. I am sorry but I just can not bare Harrods. Why would you want to go to a shop to join a queue to buy a bag with the shop's logo on it? Why? I'm sure if you actually wanted to buy something good, Harrods would be great. But you need to get past the 80 billion tourists just standing around having their pictures taken next to nothing to actually enjoy it. Easier said then done. read more

A fun place to stop by if you've never been, just don't plan on buying anything. The pricing for even the smallest item is entirely laughable. I paid $12 U.S.D. for vanilla milk shake. The service for our $100+ single course meal at the Italian eatery inside was criminal. Not to mention that the layout of the place is just stupid. But, not a bad place to walk through if a) you've never been, and b) you need to kill some time. read more
