The highlight of my trip! I used to live in Chicago, so I feel like I have pretty much done everything and been everywhere. The Harry Potter Shop opened after I moved, so I could not wait to go back for a visit! I am obsessed with Harry Potter. Every year around Christmas, I make my family watch all eight movies, and this year I get to watch them wearing my Dobby mask--on top of my head, of course! I was so fortunate to grab the very last one in the store. The shop is a good size, but it is only one level, and it stayed pretty crowded the entire time we were there. They have some merchandise and options that are different from what you find at Universal Studios Florida, which I appreciated. I also grabbed a really cool glass coffee mug. I have no idea how the Sorting Hat knew I am Team Gryffindor, but he got it right! We had such a good time, and for any Harry Potter fan, it is definitely worth the visit. I grew up reading Harry Potter and watching all the movies (I even went to a midnight release of the 7th book at Barnes & Noble), but the luster of the HP franchise has worn off a bit for me. However, when I noticed we were near the Harry Potter Shop, Nate and I decided to stop in. There wasn't a line to get in, but the store was quite busy on a weekday evening. I was amazed at all the theming, with Disney-level details everywhere you looked. There was a long line for the sorting hat, and it was fun to hear which houses people were sorted into but we didn't wait. I knew I didn't want to buy anything, so we just wandered around for a few minutes taking some pictures. They have SO. MUCH. STUFF. Robes, wands, candy, clothes, accessories, toys, everything. This is a wonderful shop for people who haven't been to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios. Otherwise, it's a pretty big letdown. This is basically a physical store that sells licensed merch (eg. wands, cloaks, candies, plushies). If you can't make it to Universal Studios, you can easily find everything online. Although I stopped in 30 minutes before closing time on a weeknight, the place was packed with families and tourists. It was fun to roam around, but I was in and out within 15 minutes. read more

Wow, lots of talent went into decorating this shop that's located on the Magnificent Mile! It is the perfect place for all fans of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire movies, books, journals, pens, keychains, pins, tote bags, swords, Spirit Jerseys, shirts, socks, caps, sweat shirts, mugs, character wands, and t-shirts in children's sizes. The decor is fantastic with the walls covered with all sorts of collectibles from The Goblet of Fire. Be sure to bring your credit cards because the stuff is expensive. If you get hungry, there is the one of a kind ButterBeer café with desserts like ice cream, muffins, cookies and popcorn. The draft Butterbeer comes in a mug and is $13.50. A bottle is $7.00. You get to keep the mug as a souvenir. There is a cafe area with tables and chairs to enjoy a break. The store features a gender-neutral restroom available for customers. If you are a Harry Potter fan, this place has to be on your list if visiting Chicago. The feeling of magic hits you hard when you walk in and it's a wonderful thing. The decorations are excellent and there is even the Goblet of Fire in the center of the store. There is also a candy section where you can get your fix of all the candies/sweets featured in the books and movies. The reason why I took off one star is because the flow of the store is a little difficult, especially when it's busy. They are sorting visitors and taking photos when you walk into the store which causes somewhat of a rubberneck situation. We were in Chicago for a family event this past weekend and got to know about the Harry Potter store pop up and I just knew I had to go!!! The store is amazingg!! They have all the things a Potterhead would love!! From mugs, magnets, clothing items, to ornaments, wands, and butterbeer! They even had tote bags, postcards, pens, and tea towels! This is a unique store that carry all the Harry Potter goodie, gift and experience. The store welcome you at the entrance. Next to the entrance, you can try the witch's hat to see which school that you are admitted. I like the most is the bar. You can try their butter beers. I got one with slush. It has the foam on top. It was delicious. Love the soft drink for hot summer. The store also has the magic wand for selection. It depends on the character of person and magic power to accommodate the needs of magician. After visiting Universal Orlando in March, we couldn't pass up the chance to stop by the Harry Potter Shop while we were in Chicago--especially since they serve Butterbeer! The store is much bigger than I expected, with plenty of Harry Potter merchandise, a few interactive stations, and a café offering Butterbeer and other themed treats. It was definitely crowded, but that's to be expected for such a popular attraction. My family really enjoyed browsing the store, and of course I couldn't leave without taking home some bottled Butterbeer for my kids. The store is beautifully immersive, featuring awesome Triwizard Tournament-inspired decor, floating books, and fantastic photo opportunities like a Sorting Hat experience where you can take pictures. The buttery flavor wasn't very pronounced, and the creamy topping was rather thin and not very fragrant. The employees were all very helpful and answering questions and guiding visitors around the store. I was able to wear the sorting hat, get my acceptance letter, and receive a Hogearts Express train ticket. I also scored some really cool merch and wands. But let's talk about the cafe, which was the real reason for our visit. We had the Butterbeer, and it took everything in me to not go back every day I was there. While in the area the day prior to my visit, I passed this store. On my visit day, around 12:55pm on a Wednesday, it was very busy. This store was part of the Go City pass where my sons and I each got a free butter beer. One son and I got it cold and the other son got it frozen. I've had butter beer before so I knew what to expect. I enjoyed it. The cream that was on top was the best and truly tasted like butterscotch. I wish I would've mixed it all together with the liquid portion. Another perk of this is that you get to keep the cup. There is a station for you to clean it out once you drink it. While I'm not a Harry potter fanatic, I've seen the movies. The store itself would be great for a Harry Potter lover! There were so many items. Easy to find right on Michigan Ave, Potter Shop features a life size pearonus statue, spin-able Every Flavor Bean wheel, merch from every house, wide wand selection, and a cafe with lots of seating. I have to preface this by saying I kind of hate myself for even stepping foot in this store. Though I was once a huge HP fan, the creator/owner of the IP is a total garbage person. In fact, an insult to sanitation workers everywhere. But when the sky opened up whilst wandering downtown, we needed to get out of the downpour and wandered to keep the kids dry. I will credit the designers because there are a few elements of the store really brings some of the Harry Potter (movie) universe to life, particularly the Goblet of Fire and the golden egg/mermaid from the prefect's bathroom. Lots of kitschy stuff, ridiculously expensive Butterbeer ($18 for a four pack, or $7 individual bottles--holy cow). It was a pretty cool experience. There are some QR codes around the place to do a survey (it's so long...) and you get a free something from them. We got a pin, but idk if it's always the same thing. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about where things would be. We were looking for some very specific items and they had to redirect us a few time to the website, which was unfortunate, but it made sense that they can't have everything. The biggest "issue" was getting anything in youth size. Those are all online if you want them. I think I was a bit surprised about the prices and they weren't as bad as I had expected. Coming in here felt like I was walking into a HP wonderland, which is very much is. Almost any merch you could want, but not much for small kids or Gryffindor. I'm guessing the lack of Gryffindor is just because it's sold so much more, but as a Ravenclaw, I was happy to see so much fun merch. The wand section was probably my favorite, they have just about any wand you could want--and Lucius Malfoy's cane wand. The special effects are cool, decor was like walking into Hogwarts, and they have a survey you can take that will earn you a free exclusive Chicago themed prize. My first review of 2026 is gonna start with a bang! I grew up on Harry Potter and LOVE it still (even though its creator gets a 0/10 from me) so my boyfriend and I made this recently opened Harry Potter store a major priority to visit the next time we were in Chicago! We visited on a day trip to the city in late December of 2025. I got goosebumps just seeing the signage outside and was even more wowed once I stepped inside! Staff is kind and enthusiastic about their job, the merchandise is varied and fully stocked, and the prices, while high, are definitely cheaper than the merch found at Wizarding World at Universal Studios. There isn't just merchandise here - there's also a gorgeous café with butterbeer, pastries, and butterbeer ice cream. My bf and I were a bit disappointed that the ice cream cost $10 until we saw the size! You definitely get your money's worth of delicious soft serve with swirls of butterbeer throughout. If we had more money to spare, we would have bought the nearly $30 Harry Potter birthday cake Hagrid made. We saw others eat the cake and it looked so good! We came on a weekend so the store was packed but still designed so we had plenty of room to move around and not bump into people. We spent about an hour there and I ALMOST bought myself a character wand, but my desire to not spend money on stuff like that as much anymore won out so I just bought a Ravenclaw magnet for myself ($8) and two sets of discounted magnetic bookmarks for gifts ($4 each). So much fun stuff visually you'll recognize from the movies here. They have so much merch -- honestly enough to satisfy any Potterhead's heart from every Hogwart's house. Every wand you can imagine, plus tons of memorabilia. I spent about an hour just shopping and ended up buying a few things. After that, I stopped by the café and ordered a butterbeer, which was delicious. The only bummer was they don't let you sample the ice cream before buying -- womp . Since I was there alone, a woman and her kids asked to sit at my table, and we actually ended up having a really nice conversation, which made the experience even better. All in all, a fun stop and a must if you're in Chicago. SBux Reserve is just down the street. I absolutely love both and will visit every time.
