Obviously I had to pop into the Harry Potter Shop during our Chicago trip. I'm a big fan of the series, and although I wasn't necessarily interested in buying anything, I was very keen to browse. And yeah, it's a really cool place to hang around if you're into the whole Wizarding World thing. They've got so many cool little items and souvenirs, as well as, of course, the option to buy some Butterbeer. I hadn't planned to buy anything, but I couldn't resist grabbing a plush Hedwig stuffie. It's impressively good quality and the price wasn't entirely unreasonable, surprisingly enough. Looking back on it, I do wish I'd gotten a Butterbeer. From the garden, the gargoyles standing guard outside to the stained glass welcoming you in, it's every young at heart girls dream. They offer just about every souvenir, wand, sweater, Knick nak, butter bear and love potion you can think of. If you have your heart set on getting placed into Hufflepuff you can pay to get sorted with the sorting hat placed upon your head. The Harry Potter Shop Chicago has a hidden gem inside--its in-store café, and it's surprisingly spacious. There's a large, comfortable area to sit down, enjoy coffee, desserts, and of course, Butterbeer, which is a must here. What stood out was the thoughtful setup. They sell souvenir cups, and after you're done, there's an auto-washing cup station so you can clean and keep them--very practical and well-designed. Service was excellent as well--staff were friendly, informative, and clearly knew the menu and products. There's a solid selection of drinks and desserts, making it a great break while browsing all the Harry Potter merchandise. Coffees were good, nicely balanced and not overly heavy. The only downside for me was the cupcake--it leaned a bit too sweet. Overall, a fun and well-executed café experience. The Harry Potter Chicago store is a unique and nice stop in Magnificent Mile for both potterheads and muggles alike. Easy to find right on Michigan Ave, Potter Shop features a life size pearonus statue, spin-able Every Flavor Bean wheel, merch from every house, wide wand selection, and a cafe with lots of seating. The cafe sells Harry Potter themed food and drink including butter beer on tap, cakes, cookies, soft serve, and other desserts. While in the area the day prior to my visit, I passed this store. On my visit day, around 12:55pm on a Wednesday, it was very busy. This store was part of the Go City pass where my sons and I each got a free butter beer. One son and I got it cold and the other son got it frozen. I've had butter beer before so I knew what to expect. I enjoyed it. The cream that was on top was the best and truly tasted like butterscotch. I wish I would've mixed it all together with the liquid portion. Another perk of this is that you get to keep the cup. There is a station for you to clean it out once you drink it. I have to preface this by saying I kind of hate myself for even stepping foot in this store. Though I was once a huge HP fan, the creator/owner of the IP is a total garbage person. In fact, an insult to sanitation workers everywhere. But when the sky opened up whilst wandering downtown, we needed to get out of the downpour and wandered to keep the kids dry. I will credit the designers because there are a few elements of the store really brings some of the Harry Potter (movie) universe to life, particularly the Goblet of Fire and the golden egg/mermaid from the prefect's bathroom. Lots of kitschy stuff, ridiculously expensive Butterbeer ($18 for a four pack, or $7 individual bottles--holy cow). It was a pretty cool experience. There are some QR codes around the place to do a survey (it's so long...) and you get a free something from them. We got a pin, but idk if it's always the same thing. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about where things would be. We were looking for some very specific items and they had to redirect us a few time to the website, which was unfortunate, but it made sense that they can't have everything. The biggest "issue" was getting anything in youth size. Those are all online if you want them. I think I was a bit surprised about the prices and they weren't as bad as I had expected. Coming in here felt like I was walking into a HP wonderland, which is very much is. Almost any merch you could want, but not much for small kids or Gryffindor. I'm guessing the lack of Gryffindor is just because it's sold so much more, but as a Ravenclaw, I was happy to see so much fun merch. The wand section was probably my favorite, they have just about any wand you could want--and Lucius Malfoy's cane wand. The special effects are cool, decor was like walking into Hogwarts, and they have a survey you can take that will earn you a free exclusive Chicago themed prize. My first review of 2026 is gonna start with a bang! I grew up on Harry Potter and LOVE it still (even though its creator gets a 0/10 from me) so my boyfriend and I made this recently opened Harry Potter store a major priority to visit the next time we were in Chicago! We visited on a day trip to the city in late December of 2025. I got goosebumps just seeing the signage outside and was even more wowed once I stepped inside! Staff is kind and enthusiastic about their job, the merchandise is varied and fully stocked, and the prices, while high, are definitely cheaper than the merch found at Wizarding World at Universal Studios. There isn't just merchandise here - there's also a gorgeous café with butterbeer, pastries, and butterbeer ice cream. My bf and I were a bit disappointed that the ice cream cost $10 until we saw the size! You definitely get your money's worth of delicious soft serve with swirls of butterbeer throughout. If we had more money to spare, we would have bought the nearly $30 Harry Potter birthday cake Hagrid made. We saw others eat the cake and it looked so good! We came on a weekend so the store was packed but still designed so we had plenty of room to move around and not bump into people. We spent about an hour there and I ALMOST bought myself a character wand, but my desire to not spend money on stuff like that as much anymore won out so I just bought a Ravenclaw magnet for myself ($8) and two sets of discounted magnetic bookmarks for gifts ($4 each). The Harry Potter Store in Chicago was such a vibe. I didn't have to wait long at all to get in, which was a pleasant surprise, though it was definitely crowded inside. Still, totally worth it. So much fun stuff visually you'll recognize from the movies here. They have so much merch -- honestly enough to satisfy any Potterhead's heart from every Hogwart's house. Every wand you can imagine, plus tons of memorabilia. I spent about an hour just shopping and ended up buying a few things. After that, I stopped by the café and ordered a butterbeer, which was delicious. The only bummer was they don't let you sample the ice cream before buying -- womp . Since I was there alone, a woman and her kids asked to sit at my table, and we actually ended up having a really nice conversation, which made the experience even better. All in all, a fun stop and a must if you're in Chicago. SBux Reserve is just down the street. I absolutely love both and will visit every time. The Harry Potter Store in Chicago is located on the Magnificent Mile. Be sure to get there early in the day as they often have a waiting line to go inside. There is a ton of merchandise for sale by each of the four Hogwarts Houses and the prices are similar to Disney Stores. They also have a large display of wands for sale and a cafe that sells butterbeer, cookies, cakes, macarons, cinnamon rolls, and muffins. The butterbeer comes in a small mug you can rinse at the washing station to take home. If you plan to purchase any of the themed merchandise the cashier checkouts are located in the back of the store. Having visited this shop on my goal to visit every Harry Potter store in the world, I noticed that it is smaller than some of the others in terms of walkable space. There's not much you can do to avoid bumping into people here but you make due. One thing I enjoyed is that the Chicago store is TriWizard themed. However if you need Hogwarts gear can grab here. On this last occasion, the sorting hat was present and I was put into Slytherin even though I am a self proclaimed Gryffindor. I have suspected that I was a snake. lol In the heart of the store is the largest Butterbeer Bar in the U.S. I grabbed Dobby, the loveable House Elf, first seen in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. This soft toy version of Dobby the House Elf is highly detailed with posable arms and legs. Love my Dobby. He travelled all around DT with us. We had fun at the shop. There was a line to get in, it was about 20-25 people but we only waited for 3-5 minutes. Then suddenly all of us were let in at once. Considering it was Saturday, it isn't bad at all. They have all kinds of Harry Potter merch, including Hogwarts, its four houses and the event had Harry Potter Chicago exclusive items. I was amazed by the amount of wands they had. The prices were not outrageous. There is a cafe there where you can try the butter beer. My favorite was the wall of character wands from across the Harry Potter universe, and it felt like stepping straight into Ollivanders. We also picked up a butterbeer in a collectible flask. The drink tasted like a cross between root beer and cream soda, topped with thick foam and subtle notes of butterscotch and vanilla. Even better, there's a rinse station so you can clean your flask afterward and take it home as a souvenir. Throughout the store, there are QR codes for a survey that offers a free gift. This store is SO cute! I'll admit I'm not a huge Harry Potter fan like so many other my age but one of the foodies I follow shared his haul from this store and I knew I had to see it for myself. They have a wide variety of branded items from each house. They have a concession area so you can have a butterbeer if you want. During my visit they had a limited edition Happy Birthday Harry line so I imagine they are adding things regularly. Some of the items are very reasonable (see fly as* letterman jacket pic) and others you wonder who they're for because they're so high; I don't understand the rhyme or reason to their pricing at all. During my annual trip to the Windy City I made sure to to scope it out. From the moment I walked through the front doors and saw the moving mermaid "stained glass window", I was in love. I spent about an hour and a half just perusing all of the shelves of merchandise, tried out how numerous wands felt in my hand, was sorted into Gryffindor by the Sorting Hat, and even enjoyed my first ever Butter Beer in the small cafe attached to the store. Bonus Tip: if you get the butter beer it comes in a cute collectible cup you cup. I of course couldn't leave without taking a home a small piece of the Harry Potter world with me so opted for a mini luggage tote (that I was able to have monogrammed for free in store) as well as a chocolate frog or two.
