This is truly a family business that provides excellent help and support to its customers. Clearly a best in class business.

Don't waste your money and purchase from the Horton's Carpet on Maple. I can't speak for the store…read moreon the east side of Wichita, but the store on Maple leaves a lot to be desired. We purchased a great deal of flooring from them. The prices were higher than some of the other stores in the area, but people who had purchased flooring from them in years past said it was worthwhile. The installers (who do not work for Horton) did a decent job with a few issues that we took care of on our own (left nails scattered on the floors between days on the job, tracked glue from the linoleum over the new laminate that we had to clean off the floor, etc.). However, the store did not order the necessary trim pieces for our kitchen, even though we had informed him they would be needed. Without the trim, the linoleum cuts next to the cabinets are raged and the edges curl. Therefore, the installation was left unfinished. When this was brought up to the store, we were informed that we failed to tell the correct person about the needed trim pieces. Only after 10 minutes of pressing did the employee we talked to agree to discuss the issue with the manager the next day and give me a call back. When we didn't get an answer the next day, I called and talked to the manager, who didn't even know there was an issue. After a lengthy discussion with her, where she told me I shouldn't need any trim pieces, she finally agreed to send someone out the next day at a specific time. My husband left work early to meet with the tech, but no one showed. When my husband called the store, he was told that maybe they would be able to do something the next week or two. We understand that things come up during this sort of work. How the company handles the situation is the factor of how good the company actually is. In this case, they were a severe disappointment. Save your money and go to Lowes. The installation from Horton's was good, but that combined with the horrible customer service doesn't justify the higher prices.

We recently bought an older home and have been dealing with a number of issues caused by previous…read moreDIY renovations. One of the biggest concerns was a bathtub that had been installed without proper support and creaked badly--so much so that I was nervous to use it. Jeremy from Happily Handy was excellent to work with from the very beginning. He promptly returned my initial call, showed up on time on the days he worked here, and was professional and personable throughout the entire process. I really appreciated that he thoroughly researched the bathtub issue before coming to the house, rather than guessing on the spot. While the tub still has some creaking, Jeremy significantly improved it by injecting expandable foam underneath, making it usable and giving us peace of mind. He also took care of several other tasks while he was here, including installing a louvered accordion door, adjusting a glass shower door that was hitting, and doing sheetrock work around a newly installed bathroom exhaust fan. The cost for all of this work was very reasonable. Jeremy was respectful of our home, cleaned up nicely when the work was done, and communicated clearly throughout. Even when a problem isn't a perfect or easy fix, it's clear he puts real thought and effort into his work. I would absolutely call him again and highly recommend Happily Handy.

Although the installation teams have been wonderful, the whole process working with Star Lumber has…read moreleft a bad taste in my mouth. My husband and I have been working to get our basement finished in preparation for our new baby. Since Star Lumber did our upstairs (prior to us moving in) we figured we would use them again for continuity's sake. The quality, look, and feel of everything is high quality. However, working with them has been extremely trying. To start off, if you do a renovation, you have to go to 4 different departments to pick out everything. The departments do not communicate with one another at all and you end up telling everyone the same thing over and over again. This also causes problems with coordinating and facilitating installation. We ordered everything in January, but weren't finished with regular installation things until April. The only reason we got done as fast as we did was my semi-weekly phone call asking them how things were progressing and when we could proceed with installation. They were very unresponsive which felt unprofessional and made it hard to get the ball rolling. Although we asked for phone calls prior to people showing up (ie the 30 minute call ahead before the appointment), we had to ask for those calls many times and even still didn't get any communication. One day the countertop team came to install the countertops (not the day they were scheduled) and we were trying to run home from work and missed them. They did our carpet and doors, but the doors don't fit post carpet, even though they did the measuring of the doors and trim and everything.

After further discussions, they came back and exchanged the damaged boards for new boards. Jeff was…read morevery understanding and was diligent in getting things resolved. Would highly recommend.
