Ended up with a 8" chef knife by K Sabatier (French) and 2 Japanese knives, each for under $200 each. I think given the quality, beauty, and sharpness of these knives, they were great buys. They also ship, in case you're only doing carry-on luggage and are from out of town. When you buy a knife from them, you get a card for one free sharpening. They do stone sharpening (no machining), so it's pretty hard core. You can ship it to them if you're out of town. The staff were all courteous and knowledgeable. It's quite a crazy selection so it was good to have their expertise. If you're new to knives, I recommend also allowed any extra $50-$100 for accessories, like a hinoki cutting board and/or honing rod. They do sell high-end versions of these, or you can purchase something on Amazon for cheaper. Regardless, once you get high-quality knives like these, you'll want to take care of them by having more forgiving cutting boards and keeping them sharp with honing rods. Bathrooms: None.

Enter Duke's Hardware. This seemingly small hardware store tucked in between a phalanx of Chinese restaurants on Noriega will usually have just what you need without having to make that big drive out of town to Daly City or Colma. The aisles are stocked HIGH into the ceiling with tools, light bulbs and other essentials, with a bonus second story alcove with plenty of basic plumbing supplies and tools tucked way in the back. Yes, you do pay a buck or two more per item here vs. the big box stores, but it saves me time and hassle in those busy busy days where you just need to fix something right NOW. PRO TIP: Get here before 9am for easy effortless FREE angle parking right out in front. Accessible by MUNI bus line too right out in front. Verdict: This little hardware store punches well beyond its weight in getting you what you need. Yes, they do keys here too. Friendly folks you will find here right as you come in!

If they don't have it, they will actually tell you where you can buy that item. Prices are reasonable if you break them down this way for the item I need. Is it worth it to drive to Lowe's or Home Depot, given the time and gas wasted? Whereas locally, I pop in, grab, and go.

First off, I thought I was sending a…read morequote to another vendor, didn't realize that Yelp sent my request to several other vendors, how convenient right! Anyway, Eric is right in my neighborhood and took my super dull kitchen knives and sharpened them razor sharp. So happy with the results that I even purchased one of his knives. I love that he's an 8 minute drive from me in my old hood El Cerrito. Eric told me that he sharpens by hand which is something I totally suck at. He was able to put a new edge on my serrated bread knife that previously wouldn't cut! Haven't tried it yet but it looks brand new.
