Hartford Hills has been on our to do list ever since moving to Ohio. We're not big drinkers, especially wine, and based on other winery visits in the past, we didn't feel terribly motivated. What a surprise! The barn is an amazing charming atmosphere and the food, albeit lightweight, tastes amazing. It's also very keen of them to offer a healthy craft beer selection as an alternative. Everything is order at the bar. Take drinks with you, and place a number placard on your table for food delivery. You can keep open a tab as they physically hold your card, or pay as you go. We went right at opening (4pm) on a Saturday in August. There were storms on the horizon so all the table reservations were held inside. We were still able to get a nice table as walk ins. Actually it was a perfect table near the stage. Too bad we were way too early for the live music. There were a couple of large groups celebrating birthdays in the back room by the fireplace. read more

We love Hartford Hill winery. It's housed in two adjoining barn buildings in a nice rural setting. They offer a nice selection of wines and beers, and pizza. (I enjoy their red wines.) Often there is musical entertainment to enhance your experience. Fun place! read more

Food bad ! Atmosphere good! You serve yourself you order and they bring it to your table. We had pizza and some had burgers. The pizza was under cooked . Flat as a pancake no taste . I've had frozen cauliflower crust pizza better than this. It was so disappointing because it was better when we first came here. No one thought their food was good. I should have taken it back but it was after a hard day of work and I was just too tired to complain. My beer was good thank goodness. The place is beautiful . It's just a shame the food is so bad. They need a chef . This place could be fabulous with a great chef . Or someone who knows how to make pizza . I won't go back . I gave them a good review the first time I went. Sorry not this time. Because I'm not local to the area, I've only attended events at Hartford Hill, and had really different experiences at both. In 2023, I helped my cousin set up a surprise birthday party for her mom, where we had salad, cheese tray, and pizzas catered by the winery. They charge per bottle for wine at events, and were reasonable in how many bottles were open at any given time, and per glass for the slushies and beer. we made little tickets for the bar, and at the end, my cousin was really happy with the price for the service we received. We brought desserts and decorations. The winery was open to the public, and we had a set area where we were hanging out. There was also a high school reunion that evening, and general customers. Great vibe and lots of fun! We cleaned up our event, reset our area, and called it a night. The wines are OK.. very sweet, but the setting is nice, and it's fun to sit at the pond. Fast forward to my sister's wedding. The venue had been so much fun, and so reasonably priced, that she booked it for her wedding. We were all very excited. You can rent the whole venue for an event on the weekends, prior to opening hours, and then doors open at 4, and you have to share. Easy peasy, right? Wrong. One thing that wasn't really communicated on either side, were expectations about moving tables and chairs. For the wedding, we moved a lot of the interior furniture around. And the owner wasn't expecting that and did not react well. He ended up threatening to pull the plug on the DJ an hour before our time was up, yelling at the bride, and my sister was in tears by the end. While I can understand why he was stressed, it was not handled well, and really left a lot of the family unhappy. We had fully intended to clean up and restore the facility by 4, and also stick around and order pizzas and more beverages. We did clean up by 4, and went elsewhere for the after party. So our experience was maybe not the norm, but I wanted to share anyway. read more

This winery has a great vibe and has a nice food menu. It is pretty self explanatory, you walk in, order from the bar. You are either served or they tell you to take a number back to your table depending on what you order. Their outdoor set up is very nice. Bathrooms very clean. I hate to say this, but I was just not impressed at all by the wine. I tasted them all, and only liked the Merlot. Most of the sweeter wines smell like medicine and tasted off. Wow, what can I say, a great experience. I am newly back to Ohio from California home of Wine Country. I moved in temporarily local and went looking for a winery; Jackpot! Hartford Hill Winery has it all. I called my daughter, they already knew about it. Lets start with management, owners and staff, they had the utmost customer service I have delivered and expected most of my life; even the table cleanup gentleman was incredibly polite and kind. I never heard so many pleases thank yous in a long time. Sorry I did not get your name but your work was certainly acknowledged. Managers Audra and Perry were the most wonderful people you would want to meet, let alone serve you. They were kind, considerate, converse even in a crowd, and are the epitome of customer service professionalism. The House plays great music Thursday through Sunday from one man bands to the popular "Full House Band" (no kidding) playing monthly; don't quote me, check the schedule. The winery is a available for special bookings such as wedding and special events. I looked through the bookings album which was breathtaking and comparable to other location's pricing. They have a great variety of chilled wines from the sweet whites to Merlot's and special beers as well. Food-wise they had a varied menu such as salads, sandwiches, pizzas, burgers and chips, pulled pork and more. I wish they had a steak; I would have invested stock in this corp. That being said, I am already arranging a 12 person friends and family gathering in August and November. I kept taking photos of the interior, historic architecture, and the relaxing decks with private seating near the water. The owner Randy Wyand came and sat with me to personally thank me for coming in; sorry Randy you are on the hook now. I purchased only 5 bottles to take home for the mini winery (tradition, I will be back) a hoodie and a new place to relax, and enjoy good quality dining and entertainment. Visited this place a few times and was always impressed. I wasn't personally fond of the wine choices but the frozen drinks were good during the summer. Had the cheese board one time (excellent) and the next time ordered a pizza. The pizza was delicious and served piping hot. Had to actually wait a while for it to be cool enough to eat. Staff is friendly and accommodating. A little off the beaten path but the whole concept and layout of the grounds is great. The interior of the place is very well done. Both times I visited was during the day but would love to see it at night time with live music or something... Great place! read more

It was overall a giant concession stand that serves wine. No employees wearing masks, or even trying to. We walked in with a reservation and had no idea where to go, no signage or anyone to greet you to tell you how they operate. Additionally, we had no idea we had to go order the food ourselves and wait for it to be brought to us until we watched other tables do it. Once I ordered a burger, I was told I still had to go dress it myself!! Concession stand is calling! Also, the was lacking food details, "Chicken and Chips" is a grilled chicken sandwich with potato chips... Like anyone would know that? Giant cheese plate should've been better off being named "Giant Lunchable". Standard cheese was on it, but it was all stuck together and I'm pretty sure the crackers were Ritz. Redeeming factor for the 2 stars was they had decent wine. However, I would not go back. read more

Hartford Hill Winery is such a cute place! The interior is so rustic and cozy. I was so surprised at how big it was, too; there are tons of tables, a couch and fireplace seating area, a stage, and a loft space. There's also a patio area that I'm looking forward to trying out this summer. We were greeted by Shari who poured us a tasting and chatted with us while we enjoyed our wine. Shari was great! Knowledgeable about the wine and area and lovely to talk to. The wine overall was mediocre, but there were a couple of choices that I could easily drink a glass or two of. We also got a hummus plate. Pretty basic, but it was great to pick on with our drinks. The food overall is nothing to write home about, although they have wood fire pizzas that looked good. For an area with not much going on, Hartford Hill Winery is very refreshing and worth a stop. The atmosphere and experience alone are why I'll definitely be back. read more

Went to enjoy a nice day at the winery and was bombarded by pantie-less and bra-less girls for homecoming. We checked the website prior to making the 1 hour trip and nothing was said about them hosting homecoming, owner said they were there for pictures but parents were drinking and kids were ordering drinks and food. read more

Considering the absolute dearth of wineries, eateries, gas stations, and general life forms in this area, it's great that there is now a beautiful winery located on the rolling hills of Bushnell-Campbell Road (who'd have thunk?). The owners have put a lot of thought into this place, and the ambiance is absolutely lovely. The complex consists of several old barns that have been transplanted from elsewhere, combined, and restored. You couldn't ask for better drinking surroundings. So, the wine. Hmm. For now, let's just say it has potential. It's $27 for an unaged bottle of Cabernet that made my soul and mouth pucker a little bit. If enough of these bottles get to sit around for a few years, I'll be here often and I'll be a much bigger fan. But, after sampling their reds, I frowned more than a little handing over my credit card. I didn't try any of the whites, so maybe that experience is a little more exciting. Please go see for yourself. The food? Pretty solid, but limited. The pizza is tasty, and the cheese boards looked good (although I didn't have one). The $8 hummus plate consisted of a small blob and some crackers, so that wasn't too exciting. Bottom line: great considering the cultural tone (or lack thereof) of the area, major kudos for trying, please step up the wine game, and pretty please add some vegetables or real pita to my hummus plate. I had a bad experience with the owner Randy, he was not empathetic regarding how long we had to wait for a cheese plate which included a humus dish and pizza that came after an hour and half later. I completely understand that they were busy, but there's no excuse for him to insult us at our table since I asked for something in return for the length of time we were there. Dont agree with the first reviewer on the "absolute dearth" of wineries around here as Hartford Hill Winery now makes THREE in or right by Cortland city (not to mention Lake Milton wineries not too far from here either). But yes, it is in farm country--which is where the best ones are :-). This winery is 2 barns fused together and it firmly fits its environment, location, & appeal. The pizza we had was absolutely excellent. For the quality, the prices for the food were reasonable and the prices for the wine were VERY reasonable. This new Winery does not have a huge stock of wines (which I hope will be added to in the future) and its not one of those Wineries you can try different wine samples at one time. But you can still try a small sample in the glass before deciding if you want to purchase it. And most importantly--the wine they do have is excellent!! This place is a real diamond in the rough. It is a great place to relax with friends and family or over great wine with live music. I thought the atmosphere was great and loved the old barn/farm feel. I was a little disappointed about how small the menu is. There are not a lot of healthier options in my opinion. I was really aiming for a salad but settled on a pizza which let's be honest is how much of my life goes. That being said the white pizza was delicious and the bread and oil dish was great. Absolutely loved this place!! This winery has a very rustic look and feel. The wines were all really good and the food they serve here is also very good. I got a white pizza and it was excellent. My friends and I shared a large meat and cheese plate and this was super good also. My only complaint about the meat and cheese plate is they didn't give us enough crackers with it. On some nights they have a band and they are usually pretty good. I do recommend that if you come on a night they have a band and you want to sit and chat with friends, don't sit anywhere near the stage. Once the band gets going, it gets real hard to hear in about half of that place. They have a loft area that is really good for parties and they let you bring your own food in for the party. read more

I'm going to give Hartford Hill 3 stars as I felt the venue was a 4, the wine 2.5, and the service a 1.5. The old barns were unique and comfortable with multiple options for indoor air conditioned seating at tables by the band, comfortable leather couches in a quieter section for conversation, or outdoors overlooking the pond. First when we arrived we stood at the bar (3 adults and 3 kids) , so you couldn't miss us. It wasn't super busy but somehow we felt invisible. We were interested in a tasting before choosing a bottle to enjoy with the food we intended to order. It was suggested that we order a single sample tasting for all 3 adults. These are tiny sample cups about 20 ml or less a cup and about 8-10 different wines. They are placed on a tray over the name of each wine. There is no explanation of the wines by the servers. Your just handed the plastic tray with a small complimentary tasting glass. When my boyfriend told the young lady that we would each like our own taste sampling tray, she looked at us as if it was unusual and questioned our request. Because of her reaction, we opted for just 2 sample trays and my mother and I shared. It truly was not enough to get the full flavor of each wine. I have to mention, while in the middle of ordering, the lady waiting on us behind the counter turned to the couple next to us and asked if she could help them and prepared their order before returning to complete ours. Most of the wines were overly sweet and tasted like grape juice. We did find two that were palatable and we ordered 2 bottles to accompany our pizza. The pizzas were burnt all around the outer crust, had too much sauce, and the cheese was sparse. Finally, as the waitress was clearing our table she began to take our complimentary glasses away. We told her that we were told they were complimentary and she said. " well you only get 2 because you only purchased 2 sample tasting trays". The third she had used to give me a taste of the wine slush. We couldn't help but look at each other in shock as we spent over $200 on food and wine. So, over all, it was a beautiful place with tons of potential. I would suggest they invest some attention in to some customer service training first as the the service can make it break the experience. read more

Hartford Hill winery is a pretty nice winery and a well-welcomed one to this area. The atmosphere and spaciousness is great and probably the standout quality to the winery. My small group and I visited the winery and were pleased with the experience. Their live entertainment was great and we started off with their wine sampler tray since it included all of their wines, which is a plus because some places do not have a sample tray. My wife and I prefer sweet wines and unfortunately, we only found one wine that we enjoyed enough to try, which was the Peach sweet wine that was pretty good. We also ordered the small cheese plate which was also good and gave a nice blend of cheeses, crackers, meats, and grapes. The prices where a little high for the wine but manageable and the staff was friendly. Just a heads up because it may be confusing at first: you seat yourself and you go up to their wine bar/counter to order your wines and food. The wine, they will uncork for you and give to you at the counter along with an order number to put on your table stand for the staff to bring you your food while you sit at your table. All in all, a good winery for this area with some room to grow, friendly staff, and a terrific atmosphere. read more

I absolutely love the look of this place. The ambience is exactly what a winery should be. The patio outback with the stone ovens is phenomenal and the pizza was pretty good. The young men who were cooking the pizza were very polite and the view of the outdoor scenery is beautiful. That is all of my good remarks.....now unfortunately here are a few of the bad. My husband and I spend many of our weekends going "Winery Hopping" and I managed a winery for several years. In my plentiful experience with these kinds establishments, I have found that part of the full experience of going to a winery is in process of doing a tasting. As everyone knows, I thought...this is where you are permitted to sample the wines of your choice in the hopes that you will purchase a bottle and or sit down and enjoy a glass. This is obviously not the criteria for this particular winery. Me, my husband and a friend of ours walked up to the counter and told the lady that we wanted to sample the wines. She asked us which one we wanted to try and I responded "Well since you only have the seven wine's, we'd like to try them all". Most wineries will start with their driest white and work their way up to their sweetest reds. It is called a Wine Tour. This person set out three 8 oz glasses in front of us and poured three different wines samples into each glass and then walked away. She did not say a word! I was quite taken by this not understanding if each one of us were to try one wine each, or if we were to all three share out of the same glass the three types of wines that we were permitted to have. We were not informed about the dryness level, the sweetness level, the names of the wines.....nothing! I looked around for this girl and she was waiting on another customer. She looked up and saw me looking at her and she look away and continued on her path. I simply could not believe it. My husband talked me into staying since we took the drive there and he purchased a bottle (which was way too expensive). Since we had no idea which wines were which or how any of them tasted...he just asked another girl for a bottle of her sweetest white wine. We sat down at our table to listen to the band and unfortunately our experience did not improve. Once the band started playing it sounded as if someone had stuffed cotton in my ears. The acoustics in this building are just horrible! If the place is going to continue to have live entertainment they really need to put in sound absorbers, or build some kind of roof over the stage to try and fix the vibrations of sounds that penetrate through out the entire building. Unfortunately this was not a good experience for us and unless the help is better trained to conduct their interactions with the customers for a winery setting and the sound problem is not attended to, we will most likely not be returning. read more

The pros: The place is beautiful, gorgeous scenery, love the barn look and very roomy! Wine very good but pricy! The cons: Poor customer service. They have you just stand anywhere up near the bar and do not take the next person in line like they should. I was standing at the bar for awhile by myself. The owner called a guy in the next line over who was 2 people back! Very poor customer service! They need to improve on this or people will not return! read more
