Hartman's is a great place to walk to on a weekend morning. Although I haven't been inside in a bit, from what I remember it doesn't have room for seating. This bakery, located in the middle of a neighborhood, was a great stop en route from Green Bay to Des Moines. Founded in 1950 and with recent new owners, this storefront is a real treat when you walk inside, as the fresh scent of the bakery is everywhere. I wish the help would have been a little more warm, but that was the only negative. Grabbed a box of kolaches, and so glad that I did. Wow. Considered one of their fresh breads, apple fritters, and cookies, but the kolaches were the winner and were awesome. Street parking works, and their prices are solid. read more

This place has gone down hill both in quality and variety. Came from out of town just to buy bakery. Was sadly disappointed. Some of the bakery was great, especially the hard rolls. I came specifically for the kolaches. So sad. Most were broken and crumbling in the box. You could not even lift one out of the box before it literally fell apart in my hands. They used to make them individually. Round. Now they make them like cakes and just cut them out like a piece of cake. Yuk. I am sure this saves time, but the bread is inedible. I do recommend the bakery for it's delicious bakery items! The folks there are pleasant. I had placed an order for something that they didn't have when I was there and later had to call them about it. They answered the phone and put me on 'hold'. Not a silent hold, but just put the phone down. I heard everything going on, they were busy, BUT, they left me on hold for 8 minutes and counting.... I finally hung up. Err goes the dropped star. I definitely recommend them, just need to a bit more conscientious for ALL customers. read more

Went to Hartman's bakery today. Bought a donut and I would give it one star. It was dry overcooked burnt and even burnt. Unfortunately will not be back because this is not the first time that the donuts taste dry. Almost taste like there are a couple days old. This is unfortunate because I have an Airbnb a half of a block from here and I always recommend the bakery shop to the people that stay there. While the baked goods are very good, the service is not. On a recent visit, I was the only person in the store. The lady behind the counter impatiently rushed me through my choices, did not listen to my responses and asked me repeatedly. She also rattled off a policy about a limit of how many dozen a person was able to purchase. Nowhere in the store was this policy posted so how is a customer supposed to know? She was very snippy and huffy while filling my order, and giving me dirty looks while I finally checked out. I was about to leave without purchasing anything but needed the baked goods for a small event going on that evening. Unfortunately, the attitude and treatment I received is enough to quit going to Hartman's. I will not set foot in there again nor will I recommend them to other people. There are other bakeries in the area. I sincerely hope this is not how the public at large is treated. read more

I was very disappointed when I went to pick up the order that I placed 5 days ago when they told me that they tried to contact me an hour before I was supposed to pick it up that they were unable to get it done. The lady asked if it would be ok if I picked it up tomorrow instead. So a word of caution if you need something on a specific day they may not be able to. read more

Hartman's donuts are one of my favorite parts of Manitowoc. The chocolate frosting is incredibly fudgey and the donuts are always made to perfection. They also have wonderful coffee cakes, breads, and rolls. If you are in the area, make sure you stop by this little shop on the north side. There is no space for eating inside, but you can take your donuts and head down to the marina for donuts with a view. You also need to spend over $5 if you are going to use a credit card. read more

The filled chocolate cupcakes are wickedly delicious. Best place in town to get kolaches. If they used organic ingredients I would gladly give them the extra star. Hartman's is everything you could want in a bakery. I grew up in Manitowoc and have lived in 4 other states so I can say that it's incredibly rare to find a quality independent bakery like Hartman's. Donuts, kringle, stolen, kolaches. They do them all well. I also love their freshly baked breads. My hometown bakery. Every visit back, and I've been gone since 1981, requires a visit for long Johns, door county cherry Danish, poppyseed kolaches! Great hardrolls for brats and hamburgers. My all time favorite is their chocolate cupcakes with creme filling. read more

We always get out fresh bread here and they slice it for us. There is a different specialty bread everyday.Wonderful desserts too! We always bought cookies from them if we were going to an event, and their seasonal desserts are always good too (mini pumpkin pie squares are amazing!!). Just make sure you know when they're open when you're going, they open pretty early but close pretty early as well and aren't open on some days during the week. read more
