I know it's just a quick eats joint, but when it's good, I feel like I need to write something. They have everything you want to compliment the warm succulent soul food style of chicken. And if fried chicken isn't your thing, they have baked chicken for you too. And you don't have to sit there and wonder which sides you want for your meal. You can have ALL of them! It's a buffet! We purchased a meal for the family through the drive thru. Once we got home, we realized they didn't include the chicken tenders we had ordered. When we called, they knew right away without us telling them what they forgot to give us and they would not refund the money for the tenders just wanted us to fight the traffic at 6 pm on a Friday night back to pick them up. Unacceptable, they then offered to replace the full meal if we returned at a later date with the receipt. Today, (only 8 days later) we went up with the receipt and they refused to honor what they said. Not only was our food only mediocre but the customer service lacking. This is an older location, so it's kind of worn around the edges, however they do their chicken right, especially the tenders. I love those little slivers of chicken goodness. The buffet is OK. It will definitely fill your belly and not cost hordes of money, so value-wise, it works out. Best thing about the buffet are the wings and the livers. They have gizzards too, but I don't like to chew on things for a week before they can go down. I don't think it's their cooking so much as my outlook on gizzards. This is a consistent lunch spot for me, so I'll give it the ole 3 stars. read more

All I can say is F-ING GROSSSS! The place is disgusting. The floor sticky and very dirty. The tables look like they were washed with the mop that they used on the floors. This place needs a serious cleaning. The bathroom was just as bad but add the smell of sh!t and p!ss to it. Food was ok, nothing great. Lotta bad info on here. The map location is wrong - the Hartz in Porter is on the East side of Interstate Fwy 69 and just about a block south of Hwy1314. I have been to some sad Hartz locations (one in Humble on Will Clayton, for example), but this one is really quite good for its category. Yes, it's a buffet . . . but over eating is optional, of course. I eat their roasted (not fried) chicken which is nicely flavored and cooked with green peppers. I also like their catfish that is only very lightly corn meal breaded. I like that I can get plenty of vegetables - coleslaw, okra, beets, green beans , cabbage and carrots and more. They often feature a chicken enchilada casserole which is muy picante and surprisingly tasty. The standard peach cobbler has few peaches and is more of a bread pudding, but a couple bites with the soft-serve suffice for desert. Despite all the bad reviews on here, it is very popular, so lots of people like it . . . plenty of working men at lunch time. The building is old, but the (mostly Hispanic) staff make an effort to keep the place clean . . . Though some of the patrons do not help much. I can afford to eat anywhere . . . and this is hardly upscale, but I enjoy it periodically. read more

Does not even care about the customer charged full price for an 8 piece and a 7 piece when they only had 3 thighs and the rest legs or wait 16 minutes for more chicken to cook. When I requested a few chicken livers since the order was going to be short on thighs they refused. Not only that but the rolls were dry no butter topping.
