The services are well done with beautiful contemporary worship and thoughtful messages with strong scriptural content and good life applications. The real strength of the church, however, is its focus on community and caring relationships. People are warm and genuine and there are lots of opportunities for people to get together to know each other and grow in their faith. The building is large and provides plenty of space for ministry, including a thriving nursery school. The leadership recently conducted a professional survey of the church, and our church scored highest on worship, friendliness, and leadership. It also showed that we need to do a better job of spreading the good news of Jesus outside our church walls. We're not perfect people, and we have a culture of humility that pervades the congregation. In my experience, Hillside is a place where you can come as you are and find acceptance and love. I've found there's even more joy though when you take the next step and really get involved.

The worship music is contemporary, and the preaching is biblically sound, yet engaging and relevant to everyday life. After service, people linger to chat over coffee and delicious snacks. A variety of midweek groups and bible studies are offered. Activities for children and teens are also available. You will find a warm Christian welcome at Hillside!

Although I was unable to enter today, I do plan to visit in the future. Here is notable information: Mission: Over one hundred years ago, the trustees of the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine conceived its mission to be a house of prayer for all people. Construction: "When construction began in 1892, The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, in the then-popular Byzantine-Romanesque style of architecture, was designed to rival St. Patrick's Cathedral on Fifth Avenue. But by 1909 the cathedral's plan was updated to the more fashionable Gothic style, and today, although officially "unfinished", the structure is considered to be one of the largest cathedrals in the world." Services: "Online Morning and Evening Prayer services are held Mondays through Saturdays at 8:30 am and 5:30 pm via Zoom. " Tours I am very interested in taking a tour. "Self-guided visits are welcome, and tours are not required. Information brochures are available in multiple languages. We also offer a wide range of Virtual Guided Visits on our website" Exhibitions: There is an ongoing exhibition of the art, glass , stone and bronze that make up the Cathedral. Vertical Tour: "On this adventurous tour, climb more than 124 feet through spiral staircases to the top of the world's largest cathedral. Explore the stories of the stained-glass windows and sculpture and study the grand architecture of this grand Cathedral" I am so doing this staircase tour! More to come... Even my Virginia church has offered bus trips for younger congregants to attend a service at the Cathedral. A plethora of historical figures have spoken or sung at the Cathedral. It welcomed hundreds of people who spontaneously came to the Cathedral after the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center. It's a place where one feels peace & safety. A highlight for me was attending a Christmas morning service at the Cathedral. The beauty, size, decor & homily will remain in my heart forever. The homily spoke not just to the needs of the community, country & world but also to the hearts of all who care for others. We took the time after the service to wander & view the many spaces of the largest Gothic Cathedral in the world. The Nave & Altar area itself includes many symbolic statues & carvings. The rooms and hallway surrounding the center structure include some rooms with beautiful crypts. The highlight of this area for me was the artwork & sculptures on display. The most moving was a sculpture of a woman with an airplane partially embedded into each hand, depicting the 9/11 tragedy. I think the piece was commissioned for the Cathedral. The cavernous structure sits high, with the Cathedral & its surrounding buildings covering the block between Amsterdam & Morningside in the Morningside Heights neighborhood of Manhattan.
