When you have a small local store run by those who are a part of the community, you end up with a grocery that cares about what is sold in store. You can tell that Harvest Wagon cares about the quality of what is on their shelves. And they easily surpass stores like Pusateri's and Summerhill in terms the calibre of produce. This is a great place to shop if you want your fruit/produce to smell like it is supposed to and looks and feels like its a cut out of a magazine. Located next to the flagship LCBO (with a condo tower coming in next to the empty space in between surprise surprise) I passed by this spot a few times on my liquor run. They close early so kind of thought of it as a small grocery store. Boy I was wrong this place is sizable and neatly laid out. Rows after rows of interesting items. I spent a bit of time just checking out the balsamic selection. Nice selection of imported pastas. Dessert selection needs a bit of exploring as I will form an opinion after I have tried it out. Good selection of ready to eat items (the lasagna and seafood items caught my eye). The fruit/produce is where this place truly shines. Just gorgeous and would even give other elite purveyors a run for their money. Now on to the fruits. I consider myself a fruit snob as was spoiled by the abundance of unadulterated fruit/produce growing up. Yup I consider what they sell as mangoes here (Mango is the king of fruits IMO Durian luvers can take it to the bank!) an abomination. However the mango they sell at Harvest Wagon stopped me dead in tracks as it smelled like a mango for a change! (last time it happened was eons ago at an ethnic store that was selling real mangoes from Pakistan) Not the variety I am familiar with but will give it a try for sure. I also saw local berries that are out of season! Bravo! The prices are what they are for this area but it sure beats trekking to tourist trap Market which is just hype IMO. Love the layout of the store but the prices are bananas-- way more expensive than Pusateri's or Whole Foods, both of which are overpriced... more like airport premium prices. Whatever you choose, the quality will not disappoint. I liked to go here for things I couldn't get elsewhere -- courgette blossoms, baby patty-pan zucchini, truly baby carrots (not just adult ones, whittled down), gooseberries, pearl onions, true French beans (the super skinny ones), etc. They had machée a decade before anyone else did. Everything is so fresh and of best quality. Pre-packaged pineapple slices are sweet and delicious, not simply cut up to sell old fruit going rotten like prepacks are in other stores. Yes, it's expensive, so I don't buy produce there that I can get in other places like bananas, oranges, apples but specialty stuff you can't find elsewhere. Also, imagine the overhead when you're making sure to throw out anything that might be off? Or of having a storefront in Rosedale right on Yonge? Or of being super pristine? If you love produce, go once at least for a treat -- you won't be disappointed. If you eat fish, go around back to Pisces and ask if they have anything fresh. Their Yelp rating is not too good, but I've had excellent service and the freshest fish whenever I visited there. The kebabs are an especially good deal. read more

Harvest Wagon is a mainstay in Rosedale for fresh produce, pasta, cheese, prepared foods and bread. I'm always very pleased with the high quality of fruits and vegetables. Great mushroom selection. It's also the best place for cheese on Yonge north of Bloor. It's pricier than most stores but quality far exceeds everywhere else so I don't mind paying the premium. read more

Everytime I'm in the area, I stop by Harvest Wagon to check out what's new in the fresh produce section and maybe get inspired to cook... Maybe. I would compare this place to the Pusateri's in Yorkville, only smaller, more organized and cleaner. It's packed inside so the aisles are small. They carry unique items that you won't easily get in other small grocery stores... fiddleheads or achuete to name a few, plus they have a good selection of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. On a recent visit, I bought some fruits - clementines, bananas and apples - and they looked and tasted fresh. The only downside (but not a surprise) is that it's pricey here. The 2 honey crisp apples I got cost $5! Nonetheless, I will still keep coming back to Harvest Wagon when I'm in the area.. cuz the place is just so darn nice! read more

Some of the most beautiful vegetables and fruits I have ever laid eyes on are located in this grocery store. If I had lots of money I'd just shop here exclusively. They also sell seabeans. SEABEANS!!! I'm tempted to go back and buy half a pound at their exorbitant prices just to try them out. this place is right on young street and services local residents - it has the freshest and most beautiful fruit and veggies - it isn't the cheapest little grocery store......however if you can afford to live in that neighbourhood you don't mind paying alittle more for the quality that they provide. I used to shop here all the time back in the day when I lived in the area. Yes it caters to the area and has some higher end clientelle. I try to visit whenever I'm in town and I'm never dissapointed. Back in the day they were THE place to go for fresh produce. Especially the hard to find stuff, like mini veggies, Zucchini flowers and TRUFFLES!!!!. They still offer these goodies and the prices are good, well some prices are high, but I think you get what you pay for. The folks there are true Italians with great service and a smile. Once you get to know them, it's like visiting family. For me, it's a familiar place with familiar faces and I can always get what I'm looking for. Luigi. read more

I've been shopping at Harvest Wagon since their expansion. Yes, it's stupid expensive. Tip: buy your fruits and veggies at the local fruit & vegetable stores. But the prepared foods are great. Salads on par with Pusateri's. The 'pasta of the day' is very reasonably priced at $9.99, and I find myself popping in often to pick one up for dinner. Love the quiche too. BEWARE the deli though. I purchased a meat dish priced at something like ~$20/kg and a vegetable side at ~$5/kg, both in the same container and noticed the entire container was weight and priced at the $20/kg! I agree with Luke A's review. You know for the area (Summerhill) it is not going to be cheap, and some of the clientele do have a great sense of entitlement. I stopped by because it looked cute and I love little groc stores. Plus, they had a wide selection of apples and being an apple-holic, I had to check it out. The place is tiny and tight on space. I admit that I did knock some pears off their display - whoops! But, considering the square inchage in this place they have tons in here. All the fruits and vegetables looked great. I bought 4 apples, 1 mango, 1 huge red grapefruit (another hollic addiction of mine) and some fresh cut mixed veggies (zucchini, red onion, peas, etc). This was $18. The shop has a large selection of oils and vinegars. I would have perused more but was parked in a questionable spot out back and didn't want to take a tow-chance. There is a little store next door that I did take a peek into. It is more of prepared foods. It is stupid expensive. I am sorry, I love gourmet, but I am not spending $5 or $6 on a loaf of tiny bread. The patrons in here again were high on entitlement. They pushed/walked right in front of you and did not want to share the small space. I did not purchase anything in this store due to the high prices and the pushy customers. I will stick with the little fruit markets, Kensington and St Lawrence for my fresh fruit and veg. For luxury and gourmet - Whole Foods, McEwan and Longos suit me just fine. read more

Since this is right around Rosedale, it's probably too much to expect Harvest Wagon to be a super-cheap green grocer. They cater to a yuppier crowd, and seem to do so rather well, considering the folksy, frontier-town look, and the emphasis on organic produce. But real organic, fresh from the farm produce is usually sold off the back of a truck, or at some shack set up off a rural highway--so there's a bit of marketing at work at the Harvest Wagon. They do have a diverse selection of exotic fruits and vegetables (which you'd never find locally anyway), and the prices are, in some cases, reasonable. For instance, organic apples (in cutesy wooden bins, no less) go for about the same as regular apples in supermarkets in the surrounding neighbourhood. read more

Holy cow is this place expensive, but all the produce here is pristine. You could literally put a blindfold on and fill up a basket and not have to throw out a single raspberry or brussel sprout. If only I could go daily! First off, many say its pricey and it is, plan for about 20% more on all items (yes really). In terms of quality, variety, service, speed and ease of shop you really do get what you pay for. My favorite is actually the rows and rows of beautifully displayed fresh fruits and veg and the knowledge and support is wonderful. For those with a culinary flair, you should be able to find those hard to get your hand on ingredients. Joe in particular is forever helping educate me on best oranges to juice, what to do with Jicama and when the mood strikes, whats in season to experiment with. Their daily fresh breads are a local's dream, especially their array of fresh bagels. The new cheese bar is also a gem of delight. Lastly, it would be uncouth of me to not mention their butter tarts which are so damn good. For those who have a bottomless wallet, lucky you. These guys sold us a cake filled with lemon flavouring after i specifically asked the girl what was in it. (for my gf's bday and she's allergic). When we asked for a refund they straight up said we were lying and refused. Also charged 17$ for shitty raspberries. Pretty dumbfounded that a place that I assume charges double price for 'quality service' would at least have staff that would know ingredients, and if not that, at least admit when they fucked up as opposed to telling me I'm lying. Terrible customer service directly from owner and his daughter. Over priced store. Go elsewhere and be treated like a valued customer instead. I purchased fish dish for my lunch and I paid approximately $15 just for a small cube looking portion. I hadn't realized what I paid for it until I looked at he bill after walking out. I went back to return immediately and was told not to return here directly from the owners. I purchased desert as well and that was moderate tasting, nothing to brag about. The fish I ended up being forced to keep and let me tell you, it was garbage. Tasted like someone threw a salt shaker in there and the spices were mild. Never returning here! Unless you have a loaded wallet and you eat whatever you've been given and have a palette for much, then this place is for you. I don't shop here often since it is super expensive but the quality of the fresh food and prepared dishes is amazing. The ladies that work here are very polite and tolerate even the most dismissive and demanding customers with grace. I have seen some pretty rude behaviour and the staff has stayed calm and acted with great restraint. I really like how clean the place is and how nice the displays are but as i mentioned before, I rarely shop here due to the prices. read more

This store is the most beautiful in the city! It makes me feel like I'm in Milan. There is always an Italian radio station playing which gives it a super homey, authentic feel. I'm able to find unique and specialty items like patty-pan squash and baby cauliflower. They have a beautiful display of leafy greens and herbs always kept fresh. I always see the staff checking everything individually. It's very pricey but you definitely get what you pay for. The staff is amazing as well!! read more
