So this is how it worked. You checked my van and gave me a huge estimate to replace catalytic converters. I took the van to another mechanic and he told me the computer monitors aren't even communicating. He fixed that issue. So now the check engine light came up indicating cylinder 1 misfiring. Because I believed in your estimate, I sold my van for very cheap price thinking it would cost me more to fix it. The check engine light was warning me to take the car to Harvey's Autotech. Decades ago I've had two other cars that had the check engine lights on, which was more expensive at two other shops. Harvey's Autotech knew that my car was due for a tune up along with replacing some spark plugs and the rear brake light. I've been a long time customer because they are professional, courteous and trustworthy. This time they let me take the loaner car to take my wife and I to work and get our taxes done. I had a check engine light come on and took my car into Harveys Auto, trusting that they would get the job done, Harvey let me know in his words that he was "95% sure" it was an intake manifold that needed replacement , they were charging me 1300 to replace it, so I believed them and allowed them to work on the issue... a few days later Jonathan (the front desk worker) let me know over text that my car was ready, i asked to see the old manifold that was removed, he said their was no visual damage to it and that the problem was more of an electrical issue. And still proceeds to tell me my balance and to pick up my vehicle because it was "ready". I felt uneasy & harvey gave me a call to let me know that the intake was not the problem and that he needs to keep my vehicle a couple more days to figure out the issue , couple days go by and then i receive a call from Harvey letting me know it was a wire that needed to be replaced or rewired not sure exactly what they did on my car because he didnt let me know about the "wire" until after it was done (never asked my permission before they rewired it). I pick up my car they charge me $349. I try to just brush the problem off. And as soon as i get home my check engine light goes on. This time it was a new code that was never on before . I went back into harveys a few days later. And Kevin(mechanic) who was previously working on my vehicle was giving me the worse customer service, very unprofessional was blaming me about other codes on my vehicle, didnt want to look my way, was letting me know that i should speak to Harvey when he gets back from vacation instead of him because "he doesnt interact with customers" (which he just was with a gentleman sitting in the lobby right next to me) Was just plain rude to me. The woman in front desk let me know that she would fix my problem but i have never received a call back from them. I dont know what exactly they did to my vehicle or why a check engine light is on for a problem that was never there before i went to harveys. Never using their service anymore, they were literally going to charge me $1300 until I spoke up. I dont trust them and i really thought they were my go to shop! read more

Really would not have considered reviewing them until just scrolIling through recent reviews today, saw this 5-star review for them. I generally review restaurants. I used them for my used Toyota Camry for a good. 3 yrs, since they are within walking distance of my residence. And i think there are many other people out there like me, staying away from an actual Toyota Dealer/Repair Shop (Quality Toyoto, Corona), thinking "dealer - prices/repairs must be outrageous"...independents cheaper. NOT SO! I have a VERY, VERY mixed opinon of Harvey's Autotech. Their "minimum" bill has always been in excess of $ 500.00 and the average bill is over $ 900.00. Yes, they seem professional and polite - and always came up with some sort of explanaton re. bill/work. I'm not a mechanic. Ended up going to Quality Toyota on a Saturday afternoon (Harvey's closed), because window stuck. Then also had them do general service. WAY cheaper then Harvey's!! Opened my eyes! Since then i'm going to a small independent (referral - A & E, 6th Street). General maintenance, timing belt chance, brakes etc. - great service and so much cheaper! and they drive me home and pick me up just like Toyota..and none of these Harvey calls "oh, this also is bad/this also needs to be done....i.e. $$$$ ". I wish Harvey's good luck but consider myself a fool, having given them my business for as long as i did. Never again! read more

Got to a point where the dealership that I had my car serviced at for years started to let me down little by little. Overfilled the motor oil during a routine oil change here, failed to seal the automatic transmission fluid there, causing a leak. I started to cringe at what other mistakes that dealership might make if I am able to catch the routine stuff. Came across this place while doing a search for other mechanics in the area. Cons: Thanks to word-of-mouth, this place gets really busy, so be sure to call ahead before coming in. I set an appointment for routine maintenance, and it still took an entire day to get my car back. Be sure to call for a status update before 5pm, since most of the car rental places in this area close by 6pm, and you will probably want to opt for a rental rather than the loaner that you might get here if the car needs to stay overnight. The loaner that I got was an older car with dim headlights, so freeway driving was out of the question for that night. This place is definitely a mom-and-pop, so the staff may be forced to do multiple duties in a given day. Therefore, automatic status updates are not always a given. Pros: So far, I have no complaints about the service that has been done here. Had the power steering pump replaced here, and it is working out great so far after 6000 miles. No leaks found after the routine maintenance, which is something that I am now forced to check for after my last dealership experience. They do a great job in explaining the work that is being done, and break down service into what is recommended, and what is critical. The prices won't be as cheap as having your "friend" doing the work for you, but a shop that does good work usually won't be that cheap. It still beats any dealership's prices, though. You save enough where even if you spring for the rental car because your car needs to stay overnight, you still wind up paying less than the dealership's price. Turn down the critical recommendations at your peril. There was definitely a learning curve involved in working with this place. Since they work on a wide variety of makes and models, sometimes they might not get the right part on the first visit. However, they knew exactly what my car needed by my next visit. What keeps this place from being perfect is the long wait, and the need for initiative on your part in order to make sure that you get a rental car, if needed, before closing time. If you are willing to put up with this, you'll be satisfied with your visit. read more

My family has been coming to Harvey for over 15 years, through 3 different locations (as far as I can remember). They have always been extremely honest and their work is of the highest quality. Yes, they are always busy and their parking lot is always crowded, but to me that's a good thing, it means people are satisfied with their work. It also means you have to wait, but in my opinion that's ok, if you want the best you have to expect to wait a bit. They are very friendly and they give you detailed explanations on what the problem is with your car. I have since moved 30 miles away, yet I still come back to Harvey for any problems or tune ups with my car. read more

I recently moved in the area, and was looking for a good mechanic. I came across Harvey's Autotech in the yellow pages. Looked like a pretty good, honest repair shop. I took my car there because my check engine light came on. I knew what it was the catalytic converter, however, I wanted a quote for repair. One of the mechanic was friendly and verified that it was in fact the catalytic converter and directed me to go inside the shop for a price check. I told the gentlemen and he started making phone calls about pricing. He asked me for my name and telephone number and that he would call me by 1:00. However, I never received a phone call from them. I can't remember how many times a very minor problem was corrected with either a minimal cost or no charge at all, given the few minutes the repair/adjustment would take. Nobody likes to pay for auto repairs, but when the auto is ready for pickup, you can be sure that any repair that has been made has been done the right way. This is not an honest shop. I took my car to Harvey's Autotech twice for the same problem - to get a misfire repaired. The first time they had the car for a week and told me the misfire had been repaired, so I paid the bill and drove the car home. The only problem was that the misfire was not fixed. So I took it back. This time they had the car for over a week and never called me with an update on the repair progress. After waiting 10 business days I called them. They told me they didn't know what was wrong with the car and they couldn't fix it. So I went to get the car back. I always write down the milage on the car before dropping it off at a repair facility because I want to know how far they've driven it while in their posession. It turns out they had driven the car 20 miles, and the radiator was broken. There was a hole in the bottom of the radiator and all the coolant was gone. The car could not be driven. They denied that it was their fault. Trying to get them to pay for the damage they caused was a terrible ordeal. Harvey was rude and actually yelled at me, telling me that I should seek council from the pastor of my church about the matter. They never paid a cent of the radiator repair bill, nor did they offer to refund any of the money I paid for the original repair. I couldn't believe it. Stay away from this place. read more

A pleasure doing business with. I had a fuel pump go out on my 2002 Chevy Tahoe. I called and asked for a quote, and I knew going in what the replacement could cost. At least a ballpark range. Harvey gave a quote that was toward the lower end of what I expected. Had me fixed up that day, and provided me a courtesy pick up / drop off at my house. My truck broke down yesterday the alternator went out. Thankfully within a minute from this shop (never been here before ) I called an Harvey answered the phone and was very helpful with info, pricing and even offered to come help me get my truck to his shop if I couldn't make it. I was able to have it jumped and made it in around 4:45 unfortunately my truck chose to brake at closing time. but they still took my info an had me leave my truck there overnight an it was fixed by 10:30 this morn so definitely not bad timing. Been going to Harvey's for a few years now. This weekend a window regulator broke that I had replaced about a year and a half ago. Harvey let me know he warranties all jobs 2 years regardless of he dealer part guarantee of 1 year. I got my car back today free of charge with a repaired window. Jonathan was more than just excellent. Accidentally pulled into the wrong smog center. Jonathan politely redirected me a block away (coupon). Left wallet my on the service counter. I went back for it. Jonathan was in the parking lot - he was already on his way to walk my wallet over to me. I decided to let them smog test the vehicle after all. Coincidentally - the entire state of California B.A.R. smog testing system went down. Jonathan had me FREE shuttled me back to my residence. He arranged to keep the car over the weekend - it was ready first thing Monday morning after the California state B.A.R. system came back online for smog testing. Jonathan assisted me with setting up a Lyft app on my smart phone so that I could easily arrange to have a ride back from the B.A.R. recycling center where I retired the car in Anaheim. Jonathan was patient - helpful - very pleasant to work with - has great communication skills and provided customer service beyond the call of duty. Ask for Jonathan - I only realized later - he is also the owners Son. I hope Jonathan is properly acknowledged and compensated for his excellent customer service skill set. read more

We took our GMC Dinali to Harvey with a broken lifter they not only fix that but also a motor mount they found to be broken which we had been noticing a noise so we were happy to get that fixed as well. Everyone there is very friendly and communication is great. Harvey called my husband and kept him informed every step of the way. Price was fair and comparable with other quotes we had gotten and customer service went above and beyond. Not only did my husband get calls throughout the whole job but we also got a call after we had picked up our vehicle to thank us for our business and wish us a happy new year. As if that was not enough we just received a thank you card in the mail with a discount on our next repair if we ever need their services in the future. Took my car here cuz tires were making loud high pitch noise while driving. The ladies in the office were very friendly and helpful, and they had a technician, Elmer, taking a look at my car right away. Upon inspection, Elmer removed a small rock that's stuck in there which was the cause of all the noises. We went on a test drive to make sure the noise was gone. I was very happy for the quick and great service and getting ready to pay, but they told me it's free of charge. Really, it's free!!
