I ended up buying a car off fb marketplace and got a vehicle in horrible condition. Bought a 2012 Toyota RAV4 and after 60 miles it shot a transmission code. Brought it into the shop and they offered a repair but recommended a replacement due to the code that popped. They shopped around and found a transmission in good condition for a great price so I went with it. After they looked at the car more they realized it didn't even have a Toyota transmission. Someone had replaced the transmission with one from a camry. I got quoted on transmission replacements from a few shops and this shop offered full replacement, including mismatched parts, for half the price of any I contacted. If you are having transmission troubles I couldn't, in good conscience, recommended anywhere else but here. From the service, friendly nature, explanation of issues in a way I understood, and letting me have the final say and what repairs to make, there isn't another shop I would ever go for transmission issues. Also took only about 9 days(including weekends) where I didn't have my car. That includes them diagnosing, hunting down a transmission for me, ordering parts, and installing. Not sure why I waited so long to write a review, maybe Im a bit skeptical when it comes to dealing with mechanics. I was at the point where one thing after another was going wrong with my vehicle. After taking it to several different shops and either they didnt fix it or in the case of the transmission they made the problem worse. But thank God I found Fernie and A-1 . I've used A Transmission Clinic two times and both experiences were positive. The first time was when I had a 2004 Buick Century that started doing hard shifts. I had a mechanic at another shop tell me that I need to rebuild the transmission. Fernie said he thought changing the transmission fluid and adding an anti-slip additive would solve the problem. That worked and saved me big $$$. The 2nd time was a simple transmission fluid change on my 2010 Camry which went smoothly. My car was in and out in one day and the cost reasonable. I have a 2006 Lexus GS 300 and this was the first major issue it's had. My car was tugging before stopping pretty bad. Because of his experience with transmissions Fernie already knew what was causing it. When it was completed there was an issue with one of the parts and Fernie didn't feel comfortable giving the car back to me. He worked out with the parts manufacturer and had another new sent. These guys did a fantastic job om my Toyota Sequoia! I was told by Larry Miller Toyota in Corona I need a new transmission, $4,500.00 approx. I was told by a transmission shop in NORCO... that I should get a new transmission/ rebuilt for about $3,500.00 I was really uncomfortsble with what both were tellung me and trying to sell me. I decided that I should probably get a third opinion/quote. I reached out to, A-Transmission in Corona for a third quote, as soon as I started talking to Fernie, I felt much better. I explained the issues that I wss having, and he gave me 4 possobilities, 1.) Was a transmissions service... $200. 2.) Change or rebuild the modulating valve 3.) Rebuild the transmission $3,400.00 4.) Get a transmission from a salvage car...one with no significant damage, that pricing would be from the wrecking yard. Fernie recommended the service to me, he said he would be checking for metal shanings, burnt fluids, etc.. if everything looked good he would change the fluid an all associated/ parts. I did choose the service option, Fernie said everthing looked good except for the fluid was low, replaced fluid buttoned up the transmission, and I had my car back in about 4 hrs. I paid $193.00 the service, the Sequoia, is now running great, i could not believe the difference. For that amount I spent, I am going to have my transmission serviced, from here on out, every 50K miles. Based on my experience with the others, it will be mone well spent, for that piece of mind. The difference that I see between A- Transmission and the others, Fernie is a true mechanic...professional, who actually tries to diagnose the problems, and then only fix what is necessary. These other guys just were interested in swapping one transmission for another. I am really glad I found them! From here on out, I will not go to anyone else, for any future transmission services that me or any of my family might need. read more

Fernie (not Ernie or Bernie) but FERNIE :).. is a honest & very kind person/owner. We took our 2017 Pacifica in to see if the slippage/delay in the gear shifting was worth repairing or if it's characteristic of front wheel drive. He said it would probably get worse with time (most do) but to service the transmission would not really help it. Most people would service it & take the $250-$300.00 charge- he said it would not help that problem & it was not a rush replacement. I'm taking the time to announce this because these kind of service stations & technicians are rare & hard to find. Kudos to FERNIE (I think it's short for Fernando). If & when the transmission gets to the point where it will no longer function, ATC will be our 1st choice. read more

I recently went to A transmission clinic a few weeks ago to get my 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 transmission fixed and the experience was very professional, fast, and reliable! I've had no issues with my transmission and truck since and it feels almost brand new! They installed a new transmission unit and fixed my oil leaks by replacing my seals and gaskets in only 3 days! The recommended torque converter really helps make the difference too. I've had other friends use this business and also have great experiences so if you're looking to get your transmission fixed or replaced definitely come here! This has to be the best transmission shop in Corona and the owners are very honest and trustworthy, they walked me through the process and even fixed a delay in my transmission display. I came into A Transmission Clinic for the second time because my transmission on my 2004 Mazda truck with 300k miles on it finally broke down. The first time I went here was about 6 months earlier when I needed to have the slave cylinder replaced on the clutch; I chose Fernie because he was the only mechanic that wasn't charging a ridiculous price. Fernie is certainly one of the most affordable mechanics in town (I've done my diligence and checked almost all of them!). However, this doesn't mean that he does cheap work, rather, it means he finds cost-efficient solutions to save his customers money. For example, he allowed me to bring my own slave-cylinder instead of having to order one from a place that would mark up the price of the part--most mechanics will not do this. Fernie and his son are really friendly people and treated me like I was family. Having been only partially employed for the past year, at the time I was extremely low on funds. When I had my truck towed to him with a broken transmission, I was candid with Fernie and told him that I didn't have the money to pay him the $1228 needed to replace the transmission but he insisted on fixing it for me anyways on a promise that I would somehow get the money by the time repairs were done. Sure enough, after Fernie was all done putting in the transmission, I was able to get the necessary money together by borrowing from people and an Ebay sale. However, I was short about $28 which Fernie allowed me to pay later. It's been about a month and the transmission still works great! He specially picked a really solid tranny to put in my truck which came from a rollover vehicle so it was still in pristine condition. I've remained loyal to one mechanic in Corona since I was 18, before learning about A Transmission Clinic. Fernie has just won my business for good! You can't beat a mechanic who is honest, reliable, sympathetic to your financial situation, and most importantly does high quality work! I have recommended him to my close friends who have all told me that he has done an excellent job on their cars! Bernie is a wizard when it comes to transmissions. I have a scanner and a transmission code came up I called Bernie and he guided me in the right direction. He told me to clear my codes and drive it around and bring it into his shop. He then checked my codes and everything was fine he looked under the hood check fluids and told me to get out of there. This transmission shop doesn't deserve even 1 star, here's why: I noticed my vehicle needed transmission servicing by a professional. Although this place claims to have specalists, and will even sell you on the idea of their supposed 5 star ratings, this place was the wrong choice. I specifically asked them to diagnose my transmission problem. They assured me it was the motor and transmission mounts. Their diagnosis was soley based on them driving the car . Later I learned elsewhere that my vehicle could have been hooked up to a diagnostic computer for proper/professional diagnosing. They charged me $600.00 to repair the problem. I had a suspicion that this job was over priced. I confirmed that by going to another mechanic who could have performed the repairs for $365.00 parts and labor and a 6 month warranty on same. Once, they completed the job in which they claimed they had to dismantle the trans. and engine, they told me I needed a new transmission and then offered a so called discount by offering to replace the transmission for $1150.00. That's more than the value of my car. Talk about the old bait and switch. Where do you find these people? Guess they saw me coming a mile away, or maybe they were looking for some extra Christmas money from the next sucker. Do your homework before trusting these guys and their assertions. read more

I was initially impressed with this business. The owner Fernie and his wife were cordial and personable and the cost to rebuild my transmission was reasonable. Everything went well until my transmission started leaking heavy when it is at an incline. It has only been a little over a month since Fernie rebuilt my transmission. If I would have known then what I know about how they run their business I would have never gone there and given them my hard earned cash.....The warranty that I was told I have only applies to what they want. It is self serving to them. I was told I would have to pay an additional $275 to repair this leak. All seals and o rings should have been replaced. The o ring is a $2 part that should have been replaced when reinstalling the transmission. My suburban never leaked transmission fluid before I had it rebuilt. A rebuilt transmission should operate like a brand new transmission and new transmissions don't leak. I am also a Corona business owner and I would never treat my clients unfairly like this. I believe because I am a woman I was treated unfairly. I am very disappointed and would not recommend this business to anyone. read more

I called and spoke to Fernando, Fernie, after going to a local shop in Brea and having them tell me I need to go to a transmission specialist. Fernie right off the bat seemed like a good guy, and he proceeded to go into detail after I had described my cars 'symptoms', and he told me what I needed to do. He actually had the heart to tell me to see if my car had any recalls and take it to Toyota. Now what car shop is going to pass up a sale to defer it to the dealership? I eventually took it to him because there were no recalls, and he didn't even work on it because miraculously the problem went away when I got there. Crazy thing is no work was even done, but you can guarantee if I have issues in the future Fernie's integrity alone will make me a customer for life.
