The sushi itself was fresh and delicious, on par of west coast LA sushi like Katsuya. I had the spicy tuna with crispy rice and at first it came out with avocado (which I didn't know, I'm intolerant to avocado) but they quickly made a new one without avocado and had a spicy crunch tuna! I chose this place based on Yelp reviews and it didn't disappoint. We were in town for a soccer game and after the game the girls were in the mood for some sushi. Parking was tough as there were no spots available on the street, so I parked in the back across the street in the bank lot, luckily it was 8pm and it's not open. Once we walked in we were greeted by staff, and were pleased by the inside decor, as it has a nice authentic Japanese scene. Ordering was easy and kids got the sushi rolls they wanted and those Japanese sodas. I got a a rainbow roll and a Godzilla roll and a bowl of chicken fried rice. The girls got California rolls tuna rolls. The total bill was $125 + tip. So, it's what I expected to pay for good food and service in a nice area. I meet friends here for lunch a lot as it's the best sushi around. Very fresh, fun cozy atmosphere. Service great too. Dinner is also great here, must make it there more often! Recent order and comments include: - Fried Pork Gyoza (4.5/5) - One of my go-to appetizers. Typically delicious but occasionally it is a bit oily - Steam Vegetable Gyoza (5/5) - My wife typically get this and she really likes it - Shrimp Shumai (5/5) I recently tried the chicken and vegetables - Sushi (4.5/5) - We typically get the tuna, hamachi, or tor and it is generally delicious. It hurts me to post this review yet I need to be honest spelt, my experience recently. Went there for quick chow with some friends. And found black hair in two different dishes. (Certainly not mine as I don't have black hair). I obviously brought this to the attention of the waiter and they removed the dishes asking if I wanted something different. I obviously obviously declined because somewhere along the line of whose overseeing or handling this food. Something just not normal. I was really excited for another Japanese place opened up in New Canaan. Went for dinner with a friend and it was slightly disappointing. My friend ordered Tuna tataki. I tried a bite and the tuna was very fishy (aka not fresh fish). And the entree was chicken teriyaki, I didn't try that, but $20 for a chicken teriyaki is crazy (only came with a tiny bowl of salad). I understand that they gotta cover the rent in New Canaan, but 20 seems a bit excessive. I ordered Agedashi Tofu for an appetizer and 2 rolls. Those were good. Interior is nice and cozy, but service needs an improvement. It took us less than 5 mins to look at the menu before the waitress came running to take an order. What's with the rush? It wasn't a busy night. She also came by several times trying to clear our table which was unnecessary. We had a huge table. She took my friend's teriyaki sauce when there was half of it left and my friend was still needing it! She didn't even ask. We were too busy talking and didn't realize it was taken away. All of the food was very bland, and the beef nagamaki was inedible. We are not picky eaters but neither of us could force ourselves to finish that dish.
