Our friends took us to Kiku Sushi one night, and even though we used to live close by, we've never been! Kiku is cute, it's decorated like a fishing village, almost. One of my most favorite photos on the wall is clearly AI generated and it's hilarious. The staff are all very friendly and quick. Our friends told us that it's family owned and employed. Outstanding. We stopped by for lunch during the week. Started with an appetizer of beef negimaki (beef rolls stuffed with scallion) - delicious. Beef was perfectly cooked to medium, the rolls were piping hot, tasty sauce - outstanding. For lunch I selected Nabe Yaki Udon - udon is always my lunch choice during winter months. Again, outstanding - tasty, plentiful, warming up. I liked the special touch of tempura shrimp served in a separate bowl and not placed directly in the soup, as I had many times in the past. This way you can slowly enjoy it almost as a condiment without worrying the tempura will become soggy. Prompt, friendly, attentive service. Definitely recommended. read more

I lived in Japan for several years and, since returning to Stamford, I have been looking for a Japanese restaurant that knows how correctly to prepare and serve Japanese food, sashimi and sushi in particular. After many unsatisfactory experiences at various local spots I found Kiku and my search was over. These folks really know their Japanese cooking. Everything was perfect -- and the price is very reasonable. Now, I eat at Kiku once a week and find 100% satisfaction. They also do a very tasty drunken noodles, but I go there mainly for their raw fish. Also, attentive service. Just great! When I was finally able to get them to answer the phone they admitted that the item was forgotten but they refused to credit our credit card. Ordered delivery - and it took over an hour to get here! The food was cold by the time it got here. Ordered the chirashi and gyoza. The gyoza was good - one of the better ones I had (thinner skin). The chirashi was ok - nothing to rave about. It comes with a lot of rice and quite a bit of pickled veggies, which are gross. The fish seem fresh enough. read more

And yet just another great spot I'd forgotten to review! Been coming here since they opened. It was very, very intimate but totally comfortable. They have since expanded. The decor is Asian inspired- paper lanterns, long wood bench/booth w pillows, immaculate. The service is gracious and friendly sometimes limited English but it works out. The sushi chefs work in a traditional open style so if one chooses you can sit at the bar& watch the magic & skill. They make some of my very favorite rolls & named one after my husband's family bcz they eat here so frequently! The menu offers the familiar, not so familiar, imaginative rolls, special rolls, & traditional options too. Their Kani salad is the very best I've ever had. They often use black sesame seeds rather than the other which I luv bcz I don't care for tobiko. They happily accommodate groups too. Delicious sushi etc & always a pleasant experience. read more

Love this spot! There's only been one waitress when we've gone but she is so attentive and polite. We've been 4 times in 3 months for dinner. The food and sushi are fresh and delicious. Their Japanese Pizza is a great appetizer for two people to share. For non-sushi lovers, they have plenty of great options that are not sushi including Pineapple Fried Rice, Pad Thai and Yaki Soba. This is a great neighborhood spot and parking is plentiful. It's definitely worth checking out! read more

I went to this place opening day years ago and have returned so many times that I should be part owner! I usually eat there once a week or every other week. Best restaurant in the Springdale area...and I would say best sushi in Stamford/Fairfield County.... and there are a lot of great sushi places in this area. I have had almost all their items here, so to list my favorites would be a strain on my fingers typing. My only complaint would be that I have had average meals there on Sundays when perhaps the fish was leftover on the weekend... but that was rare. Also 2+ years ago Kiku opened another sushi place a mile away under a different name. That restaurant is fancier and thus more pricey. During that transition time, the best chefs from Kiku went over there.. and for about 6 months Kiku was average or ... i hate to say it... below average. However they finally replaced the lost chef talent and quickly regained their stature as the best sushi in Fairfield County. I have been to so many sushi places in the area... and none are better than Kiku. You will not be disappointed! And they have very affordable lunch specials. read more

The cilantro roll and a clear soup is my favorite dinner from here. I always get it to go. The Greenwich roll is also very good. Everything here is super fresh! I would recommend to anyone. Terrible manner on the phone. We ordered some sushi rolls over the phone and once she got the order, she hanged up. Not looking for a lot from her, but we didnt know the total, she didnt ask for our name and didnt even say thank you or good bye on the phone. We thought we got disconnected, so we called again, and the same lady picked up and yelled "we know your order" then we asked do you need our name... then she said NO and hanged up. Not sure if I should go there to pick up the order anymore. Not going to eat there again, specially not going to order on phone... Will not recommend. Kiki Sushi is a great option for sushi on the Stamford/Darien line, located in the Springdale Shopping Center. Their prices are reasonable and their staff are always friendly when we pick up our orders. We haven't eaten in the restaurant yet so I can't speak to table service but no complaints about the front of house! Their specialty rolls are good and my favorite is the sweet potato roll. I'm knocking a star because the spicy crab roll can be inconsistent with the amount of mayo in it but I think Kiku is a great place to try if you are looking for a sushi restaurant. read more

Just a very, very pleasant place to eat. I've only ever gotten Special Rolls there, and probably only 1 or 2 different kinds... but it has impressed me every time. My favorite is the Diamond Roll and I'm almost never tempted to stray from that perfection. Clean, nicely decorated tiny restaurant with pleasant, soft classical music on the speakers. Just great. I only drop a star because I would love to have a beer with the sushi, but I can't bring myself to pay $10 for the cheapest option. Just last week, I was in a different CT restaurant with $1 beers, so it's really hard to go back. But otherwise, Kiku Sushi gets a big thumbs up. read more

Excellent Sushi. Great Service. I was very good friends with two NYC sushi chefs (Mr Fukuda and Taka Yoneyama in the West Village) for over 20 years. They both taught me to appreciate high-quality sushi. Currently, I also love the sushi at Fugakyu Sushi in Boston and Sushiden in NYC. I had my first dinner tonight at Kiku and despite a few negative reviews, I have to say that this is some of the best quality fish that I have eaten. I prefer traditional sushi and handrolls and Kiku did not disappoint. I ordered the Sesame Tuna appetizer, eight generous pieces of lightly seared raw tuna over a bed of thinly-sliced cucumbers and lettuce with a wonderful miso-ginger sauce. My main course was the following sushi (two pieces each) i: Kanji (Red Snapper), Hirame (Fluke), Suzuki (Striped Bass), Hamachi (Yellowtail, Amaebi (Sweet Shrimp, with the deep-fried heads) Uni (Sea Urchin) with Quail egg, Unagi (eel and cucumber handroll), and tamago (home-made.) Kiku's sole brand of house cold sake Katana Extra Dry was actually very good and only $9 a bottle. My sushi bill is almost always around $100 and Kiku's bill was $80 + tip. And because I was given an extra free excellent cerviche dish with my sushi, I left an extra $20 for the sushi chefs. I heartily recommend Kiku's sushi. read more

Surprisingly tasty sushi. First of all - the salad with ginger dressing is my favorite starter. The ginger dressing here was very good, and they were more than generous in the portion. The miso soup was also better than expected, and had a good amount of seaweed and tofu. Best of all was the sushi. I had the mixed veggie roll (which included cucumber, oshinko, avocado, and carrot). By far one of the best veggiie rolls I have had as far as mix of vegetables. I also had the tuna avocado, which was fresh and had a good ratio of tuna to avocado. Bonus was the brown rice option- definitly worth the $1 up charge. Great place for take out, but also has a cute sushi bar and a few booths that look good for dining in. Decided to come here and try it out for the first time. When first walking in, its a quiet and cozy feeling. Staff was very nice. But the food was extremely delicious. It's been quite awhile (almost a year) since I've given a business a less than three-star rating on Yelp... I just don't like doing it. Unfortunately, the dinner my sister and I had at Kiku the other week wasn't very good. I've certainly experienced better service, as well as better Japanese food in the Stamford-area (Kotobuki comes to mind). Sorry, Kiku. The interior of the restaurant is very acceptable, if a touch dark. I was surprised at how big the place was--based on the strip mall storefront, I was definitely expecting a smaller interior. We opted for a table, but the sushi bar looked like a particularly nice place to sit. The service was one of the more negative parts of our visit. I don't expect all waiters and waitresses to be bubbly and friendly, but our server was pretty flat. Service was also a strange mix of fast and slow. The tea was originally forgotten, and then, when reordered, served to both of us, when only my sister wanted it. We also had to request chopsticks with our appetizers, and weren't given napkins. Yet, there was a rushed feeling to the service as well: our server swooped in to take the dipping sauce that accompanied them while there were still two spring rolls on the plate, and we weren't offered dessert (not that we particularly wanted it). None of the mistakes were particularly egregious, but they started to add up by the time we were getting our entrees. The food was hit or miss. The spring rolls were quite tasty. Hot and crispy when they came out, they were probably the best thing we ate that night. On the other hand, the seaweed salad was surprisingly dry and lacking in flavor. A bit more dressing would probably have helped perk the dish up a bit. Our entrees were also rather spotty. I thought that the chicken yaki udon was pretty good: it had a homey taste and a nice mix of ingredients, though my sister found the seasoning to be somewhat lacking. We both agreed, however, that the unagi don was pretty mediocre. While the serving size was quite generous, the eel was texturally too soft (almost mushy). It might have been better in a roll--Kiku has a number of traditional and creative options which we didn't try. read more

The food was very good. We got two special rolls and two normal rolls- solid portions, good flavors, and fresh fish. Very reasonable prices as well. The only down side was the service, which was pretty terrible. While the food came out very quickly, they were out of one of the dishes we ordered. The waitress told us this and then insisted that we order something else to replace it, and proceeded to suggest the highest margin items. In addition, after we were done with our meal, the waitress suggested we order more. We spent around $45 for two people and apparently this as not enough for her.
