J37. Negitoro Roll J46b. Spicy Scallop Roll J50. Squid J61. Salmon Roe

I'm always skeptical of places that do multiple types of cuisine and Fuji is one of those places that reaffirms my skepticism. Usually a restaurant does at least one of the types of cuisine better than the other but Fuji's execution of Chinese and Japanese is totally off/lacking. I can appreciate Americanized Chinese food but whatever Fuji is doing is not it. Got Mapo Tofu - was suspect when it was described as mild as it's notoriously supposed to be a spicy dish - and what I received was tofu and diced vegetables (why is there celery in this Mapo tofu) in brown sauce? It seemed more like lobster / black bean sauce flavored than Mapo. And you'd think the Chicken with Garlic Sauce would be in more of a brown sauce right? Well wrong again, it was in a pink/red/orange that was more sweet and sour almost than savory/spicy garlic sauce. The roast pork lo Mein was the only dish that made sense and even at that they were doing so much with it (more unnecessary diced vegetables). So naturally I think, oh maybe their Japanese food is where they will shine instead. I got 2 rolls, Negitoro (tuna belly/fatty tuna & scallion) and spicy scallop roll. The tuna in the negitoro felt pretty lean/more like regular tuna versus what the menu described as "prime tuna" and also my spicy scallop roll had crunchy tempura bits mixed in with spicy Mayo - also a telltale sign - if they're serving a mixture of spicy Mayo, tempura bits, & whatever fish you selected, the fish isn't that fresh so they're giving you these other flavors to latch on to. But if that's not convincing enough, the ikura/salmon roe nigiri I had definitely wasn't fresh. It had a really fishy taste/smell to it. The squid nigiri I got was the best of the sushi I received. I will say nothing made me sick but none of it was authentic or even close to a good Americanized version of the dishes they are supposed to be. Will not be ordering from Fuji again. There are better options around Stamford.

Fuji is a sushi and Americanized Chinese restaurant with the typical Americanized Chinese dishes as well as some dishes you would find in an authentic Chinese restaurant such as Peking deck and walnut prawns. I did not order any of those so I cannot say how they compare to other Chinese restaurants. They also have lunch specials which includes a drink. I ordered the duck roll and general Tso's chicken lunch special. The duck rolls were a bit disappointing but I wasn't expecting much anyway. The wrapper thick and a bit flaky with not much duck. It was mostly skin and didn't taste fresh. The rolls comes with a brown sweet sauce similar to what you get when you order duck at a Chinese BBQ restaurant but not nearly as good. The General Tso's chicken was nicely crispy, not over breaded, and was cut small. It's a bit different from the ones I had. Not bad but different. It could have used more sauce. Still good though.

First and last time ordering here. Almost swallowed a piece of metal that was fried into my sesame chicken!

Chicken mei fun

I recently moved to Stamford, and was looking for some sushi that I could order online via my Yelp app and have delivered. There weren't a lot of highly rated places offering online ordering, and after reading through Fuji's reviews decided to give it a try. We ordered a sashimi sampler and a few rolls, and everything was really solid, especially considering it was delivery. It did take longer than predicted, but not by too much. I decided to try their chinese menu a week or so later, getting the egg foo young, pork lo mein, and hot and sour soup. I didn't get to try to soup because my friend inhaled it, but the egg foo young and lo mein were both really tasty. Delivery was a little late again, but food was hot. I ordered a third time, with a third friend, trying some additional rolls from the sushi menu, the tuna bowl, and the chicken mei fun-- again, all really good, and this time the delivery person was on time! I really appreciated that the japanese and chinese foods were in separate bags, so that the hot food didn't ruin the sushi (you'd be surprised how often people aren't thoughtful about these things!). I'm glad I gave this place a chance. I will likely keep trying various dishes and will update my review if something changes drastically, but so far so good! 5 stars for the delivery experience on both menus.

Great spot for Chinese food! The dumplings were incredible! All of the food hit the spot. Not pictured are the fried egg rolls, which were great as well!

Delicious! Crab rangoons were crunchy/flaky with nice soft filling and good flavor. Dumplings were amazing especially with the dipping sauce. Boneless spare ribs and pork fried rice always a perfect combo together. Favorite Chinese food in Stamford

Mecha Noodle Bar - Spicy beef ramen

I'm officially updating my previous rating because MẹCha Noodle Bar has seriously stepped things…read moreup. For anyone wondering about the name, it's pronounced "Me-uh Chah" (not "Mek-ah") and translates to "Mother and Father"--which feels fitting given how much more "soul" the food has lately. A few years back, I felt like they were missing the mark on the essentials, specifically the phở broth and the nước nắm. If you know Vietnamese food, you know those are the dealbreakers. The great news is they've clearly dialed in the recipes. I've been coming back regularly now because the flavors are finally hitting those traditional notes that are so hard to find in this part of Connecticut. My typical order: * Phở Gà (Chicken) * Phở Tái (Rare beef) * Phở Bò Viên (Beef meatballs) * Chả Giò (Fried spring rolls) -- Absolute must-order. They do have a lot of non-traditional stuff like Bao, Handrolls, and a solid Spicy Miso Ramen, and while those are actually very good, I usually stick to the Vietnamese classics since they're doing them so well now. The atmosphere is also worth mentioning. It has a really cool, organic vibe with tons of wood accents. The ceiling is covered in hundreds of 2x4s that hang down like a weeping willow canopy--it's unique and looks great in person. Pro-Tips: * Parking: Don't even bother trying to find a spot on Bedford Street; it's a nightmare. Park in the lot around the back and just use the pedestrian passage to walk through the building. * The App: If you're doing takeout, use their mobile app. It's a lifesaver on the weekends when the dining room gets slammed. So glad to have a reliable phở spot in downtown Stamford again!

stopped by Mecha Noodle Bar on my lunch break and ordered the pho ga, adding Thai chilis and bone…read moremarrow. the prices are definitely on the higher side compared to other local, more authentic pho spots. I actually went during restaurant week, but since I ordered it to go, I didn't get to take advantage of any of the promo pricing. the ambiance is always nice at Mecha, no matter the location. Even just popping in, you can feel that trendy, laid back vibe they're known for. This was my first time trying bone marrow with my. pho, and I'll admit I thought it came mixed into the broth. Instead, you have to scoop it out of the bone yourself, it reassures you that it's fresh, but I think I might've ordered it wrong. I'd probably go with marrow oil next time for a smoother experience. The pho itself felt clean and comforting, definitely one of those meals you can enjoy a little guilt free, especially if you're feeling under the weather. Overall, it's a good option, just a bit pricey for what it is. I'd be open to coming back, especially to dine in next time during a restaurant week if I have the time.
