Came here on a Thursday evening with a colleague after work; She suggested it, because we were nearby. The place is pretty small but wasn't crowded as there was only one other table dinning in during the time we were there. I'm really not a Chinese food fan, I agreed to come here because there were also Japanese items on the menu. To drink I got a bottle of cloudy sake. I ordered the money bags, even though it had no description. Money bags are a symbol of good luck and fortune, and are often eaten during special occasions, I got this to celebrate the New Lunar Year. I would compare this dumpling like fried appetizer to a spring roll, stuffed with similar ingredients plus pork. It was served with sweet and sour sauce. I also ordered the fried gyoza, I appreciated that the textured was actually crispy but the soy sauce it came with tasted like it was straight out of the container; they could have spiced it up with garlic or ginger or chives..etc. My coworker ordered the general tso. She traded me a piece of her chicken, it tasted good but those sauces are way too sweet for me, big reason why I'm not a fan, it's just not for me. At the end we were given a small plate of fruit with fortune cookies. What a nice surprise. The prices were very reasonable here. Stopped by today to order sushi take out... they couldn't have been nicer. Ordered the Dancy Girl roll with spicy tuna instead of spicy crab (kani) salad... $1 upcharge, no problem. Got it home and spicy tuna looked brown and suspect; tipped it out after 2 pieces. I'll definitely go back for the bento boxes and Chinese offerings, though... Nice little sushi spot in Bulls Head Plaza. It's a Pan Asian spot, so they have other dishes as well. It's a cozy atmosphere, not over the top flair. Had the Black Dragon and Phoenix rolls. Small cute Asian restaurant in a busy strip mall. I came for lunch and had the beef teriyaki bento that comes with soup, salad, rice, 3 piece California roll and gyoza. The salad dressing was sadly too sour and too salty and the gyoza was also lacking flavor. The beef teriyaki was OK and the California roll was fresh. The eel cucumber roll was good. KamPei is a small spot in a strip mall in Stamford. Great for lunch or takepout. The food was some of the best Chinese I have had in years. I split a Shrimp with garlic sauce and Sesame Chicken and both were excellent. My wife and son enjoyed the sushi including the sweet potato tempura rolls. And, the hot & sour soup was the best I can ever remember having. I would be remiss not to mention the attentiveness of our waitress. read more

My to go order was their baby bok choy, filet mignon to that I added extra ginger and Chinese Black mushrooms along with pork fried rice .. This place is pretty good. No major complaints. The food is average pan-asian. Prices seem fair. I see a lot of complaints about the food quality here, and while it is not out of this world, it does the trick for me... the edamame needs a bit of salt. The sesame chicken is reasonable quality. What happened to this place? When I was a kid growing up in Stamford 15-20 years ago, this was the hip sushi spot. I visited my mother today in Stamford and ordered some takeout from here: Chicken Tempura + Two (2) Pieces Tuna Sashimi (just my order among a five person dinner order). The tempura didn't come with steamed vegetables over a bed spicy rice like the menu said, they didn't even include any tempura sauce. I got four long 'sticks' of crusty chicken that looked like four (4) miniature fluffy dusters in a plastic takeout container, and the taste wasn't far off either. As far as the Tuna Sashimi, I knew the color looked off but decided to bite into the first of two (2) pieces - YUCK! I don't know how or why I swallowed that bite. I guess instinctively? I threw the rest of that piece out (3/4) - the other piece of Sashimi went untouched, saved for this photograph, then saved for the trash. I wanted to take it back and ask someone there to eat it in front of me, or better yet feed it to one of their children - since they think it's good enough for me and mine. I never leave reviews for places EVER, this experience was that bad that I feel I have to warn someone. I hope I don't get sick from that small piece I swallowed, because it did not taste right. Kam Pei is probably one of the few restaurants offering both good Japanese and Chinese cuisine. The selection is huge, the service is good, the atmosphere is casual and the prices are great. For Chinese dishes, I highly recommend the General Tzo's Chicken because they do it right. They fry the chicken in pre-heated oil quickly to lock in the moisture. For Japanese, I recommend the Hulk Roll if you like avocado. read more

Been coming here for many years, probably eaten here 50+ times so needless to say I enjoy their food. A father and son typically manage the phones and honestly they both are polite on the phone, offer discounts when food is late, and apologize when they mess up an order. If you order delivery during a busy time, you will wait a very long time (2+ hours before). I have never gotten sick from their sushi, they don't pile on the rice, and its always tasted fresh. Their stereotypical Chinese dishes like sesame/generals is good, nothing to write home about. Their shrimp lo mein has lots of shrimp (I HATE being skimped on my shrimps). Overall: usually reliable delivery, open 362 days a year, solid service, and decent prices. They will continue to be my go-to. read more

Highly priced sushi that was not very impressive. I had a custom made roll that cost me $15.95 for just one roll. I have been trying to find a place that makes good sushi like my favorite restaurant in NC. I would always order the Nemo roll (tuna and avocado on the inside, wrapped with rice and salmon on the outside). Really nice size chucks of meat too! Unfortunately, I have yet to find a Sushi restaurant that can make this roll. Kam Pei tried to make the roll for me, but it was pretty horrible, and very very tiny for the price I paid. Having experienced long delivery times from other chinese food places, we decided to place a pick-up order from Kam Pei since it's so close to our apartment. We ordered directly from their website which led us to the Eat24 app/website. It was easy to order and add in special requests like homemade spicy mustard. The pick-up time was set for 10-30 minutes which is a big window but the food was ready and waiting when we arrived after about 15-20 minutes after ordering. The gentleman who helped me very personable and friendly. We got: shrimp fried rice, chicken lo mein, crab rangoons, egg roll, BBQ spare ribs, wonton egg drop soup and General Tsao chicken We liked everything we ordered but the crab rangoons and the wonton egg drop soup. The rangoons were small, with hardly any filling. They got soggy and took on the taste of the shredded lettuce that they were packaged with. The wonton egg drop soup had chopped tomatoes in it, which was just weird to me. I've seen mushrooms in this kind of soup before but never tomatoes. The rest of the food was great, not as greasy / overly salted as other places we've tried. The shrimp in the fried rice were actually big, real shrimp. The General Tsao chicken was mostly real chicken, not a ton of breading. While the prices are more expensive, to us it's worth it to have better quality food and better customer service. We'll try delivery next time to see if their wait times are as bad as others have posted. read more

Tonight (and this has happened several times) we ordered at 5:44 (online) with a delivery time of 6:42. After 2 calls it is now 7:27 and we were told it would be another 20 minutes. So a solid 2 hours after ordering. Completely unacceptable. And when we asked for a reason they said we are very busy so they are not understaffed due to COVID! I'm pretty picky when it comes to sashimi so let me start by saying it was fresh and that's always the bottom line. However, the sake was too hot as was the miso soup. It's hard to judge anything fairly after you've burned your tongue. The salad was also disappointing: mostly iceberg lettuce with one tomato slice and one cucumber slice and water. Back to the fish, the presentation was decent and, again, it was fresh. I was neither over-impressed nor totally turned off. Great Japanese restaurant in a busy Strip mall right on High Ridge. parking can be challenging specially during lunch, and this place is always packed during lunch hours with orders sometimes taking more than 15 minutes. The reason is really their quality Sushi, and Teriyaki boxes that makes this place so popular. If you want to have a good Japanese lunch and need a short break from your work cafeteria, this is a great place to go. I have never gone here for dinner so can't comment there! read more

I don't get the hype. I've ordered from there twice so far and neither time has been all that great though I've only ordered from the chinese food side so maybe its the japanese side that's the exceptional part. The dumplings are small and rather bland - it's rare for me to find dumplings I'm not crazy about but their steamed dumplings didn't do it for me or their Schezuan wontons. The wontons had a kick that I liked but the consistency of the sauce was almost glue-y and made it unappetizing. The lo mein and sesame chicken were good but nothing to write home about. I do like the fact that they deliver, and they're pretty quick about it but there's a $20 minimum before they'll deliver dinner. Not too hard to reach that price though because their prices are expensive and they don't offer cheaper dinner combo meals like many other restaurants. read more
