The fence itself is great, but the communication from this company is poor. It was easy to make an appointment to have someone come out to give us a quite and collect a deposit, but we had to wait months for the install to happen and when it did, we never got a call to schedule the install, their team just showed up at the house. When I called and expressed my frustration that we would have appreciated a heads up they said "that's just how we do things". After the job was completed we didn't get a call to follow up to make sure everything was as discussed, and we had to wait for our invoice to arrive by mail to pay it. This company needs to improve their customer service so clients don't feel left in the dark. read more

Very disappointed in almost all aspects of Hastie Fence as a company for residential property. They initially were very responsive to the work to be done. Got the quote and request for deposit within a week. That was in August. Finally the work was done the last week of November. And it was done poorly- uneven and issues near the gate. Workers left old fence segments with nails in them on the ground (and I have dogs). I notified them of my concerns and was told they would be in touch in "early spring". In late October I they just showed up, with no notice, to do the repair. My dogs were going to be out that day and my neighbor notified me that they were working on the fence (I was at work). I wrote an email to voice my concern- no response. I sent a letter (with the balance due) to voice my concern again-no response. But check was cashed. Horrible experience, very disappointed. We are VERY happy with our fence. It highlights our house greatly and provides us with the privacy we were looking for, and safety for our dogs. We did have to wait 4 months to get it installed. We got our estimate and put our deposit down in early June and fence started going in the 3rd week of October. They did, however, tell us up front that this has been the busiest they've ever been in 20 years and that they are often waiting on their fence suppler, and that they have multiple crews all over western MA working. Everyone seems to be making home renovations during COVID-19. Their customer service was good. They answered all our questions any time I called or stopped by. Though they were a week off on their start date and I had to follow up to see where they were. The crew was great. They went above and beyond. They couldn't have picked a worse week to install fence, cold rain and winds, and snow before Halloween. Despite all that they did a great job. We did pay BIG BUCKS for this fence but we got what we payed for. Materials are high quality. Gates are all solid work fine. Definitely recommend. read more

I recommended Hastie for an elderly family friend. I helped her put down a deposit. This was well over at least 4 months ago. I came back into town recently and her property hasn't been touched. I called her and she had been in the hospital for a fall but had been initially told that work was a 'few weeks out' and they'd get to her. I am usually very patient with things like this but to come visit and seeing no work even after she paid a deposit is pretty disheartening to say the least. If the work can't be done, at least notify the customer. NO contact at all is beyond bad business. read more

They did a major job for us and were excellent. They were very diligent in their initial scoping of the work. Once the work started, the crew was hard working, polite and were clearly experienced. As they did the work, they determined that their original plan had overlooked a couple of things. Rather than just "executing the plan" and leaving us with problems that would have only emerged in several years, they paused and added a couple of features. We had been very satisfied customers of Hastie Fence in Agawam, MA for many years; however our most recent experience was a total nightmare. Due to a severe storm, part of our fence that Hastie had installed was destroyed. We called requesting a quote for our insurance company, asking Hastie for an identical fence and gate 5' high like all our other fences they installed. After receiving approval from our insurance, we placed our order. When the fence arrived, it was 6' instead of 5'. They removed the old fence and said they would return with the replacement fence after they cut it down to the proper size. We waited and waited. After several attempts and several messages to reach someone by phone, we were told they were going to re-order the fence in the proper size instead. We waited and waited again. When they finally showed up to install the new fence, they realized that the gate also had been made 6' instead of 5'. We were told they would make the gate by hand and return the next day or two to install it. We waited and waited, yet again. We kept calling to determine installation date and were told that they weren't coming out as planned because they thought we were going to be on vacation for two weeks! We never take summer vacations and never told them we would be away. The office person obviously confused us with another customer. Shortly after that the actual installers stopped by to drop something off and told us we had been on their schedule for that day, but the office person just crossed us off the list and did not reschedule us. This absurd and horrific service continued for another few weeks. Each time we called the office and spoke to staff, we received all kinds of excuses about why their service was terrible . . . old employees leaving, new employees not trained well, the job scheduler was extremely unqualified, the new manager not having any type of control over work quality, we didn't send in a deposit (although we were NEVER asked for one), etc. Each time we called we were greeted by an extremely rude person who never knew what was going on and/or consistently tried to blame us for all the problems we were encountering. We also placed a call to the new manager and stopped down in person to inquire why their service had become so poor. He was not at all helpful. With all the fencing work we had done by Hastie in past years, none of these types of problems existed and the work was done with quality and care. The new people involved know absolutely nothing about working a business in a positive and efficient manner and are running what was once a very high-quality company into the ground. We are people who prefer to write complimentary statements when pleased about the work of those we do business with; however, in this case we cannot. People can make their own choices about who they hire, but please do thorough research about this one and heed our advice: DO NOT USE HASTIE FENCE!! In the future we plan to go elsewhere. read more

Terrible customer service. I had two fences put in by Hastie years ago and they were good to work with at the time. But when I attempted to have one of the fences repaired it took months and multiple emails/calls just to get someone out here. And even when I did get in touch with someone, it was constant excuse after excuse as to why they didn't return the call or come out the day that they said that they would. I literally went four months simply trying to get a few wood panels and posts repaired and I could not get a straight answer. It got to the point where I just asked for the materials so that I could hire a local guy to do the repair and even that was an awful experience. If you do choose Hastie because the sales guy was good, beware of the back office that supports him. Completely dysfunctional to the point where you will scratch your head and wonder if you are speaking a different language. read more
