First time at Hastings spa reflexology and sauna and was pleasantly surprised by a great experience! I booked a couples foot massage for 50 minutes and sauna for 50 minutes and had the most amazing and relaxing time. Check in was smooth and friendly. The gentlemen at the front desk were very kind and informative as it was our first time there. We were led downstairs to our lockers and then settled in for the foot massage. Susan and Angel were great and the pressure was perfect. Afterwards, we were able to use Sauna A. It was a huge space for just the two of us! Appreciated the showers and hot sauna. I made an appointment for foot massage and expected promo as it is written in description, got a call and during such unprofessional and rude conversation with admin which was talking over, didn't care about customer, didn't know what is on their website and what are the promotions, wasn't trying to even listen or understand and dare to name it as super prestigious location. At the end I said few times to confirm booking and he just canceled it anyway. Very unprofessional, rude communication with the client, even if services itself would be good, I will not go there. read more

This place was awesome.It was a unique and historical spa experience.Glad that I set a appointment up to visit. Front desk was very efficient and the place was very clean.I was able to really get some quality relaxation time in after several days at a film festival in Washington and a few vivacious days of touring Vancouver with my family. My partner and myself have a sauna membership back home and normally use a infrared system but it was delightful experience and a real treat to get one of the Swedish style saunas with a appointment on fairly short notice but I would suggest you make a appointment. Most people come here to try the steam sauna portion because it's the longest featured rendering to offer. However you can't go wrong either way.The host offers you a big bottle of eucalyptus oil to use in for your experience and encouraged us to use it with enthusiasm. Hope to try it again sometime.We loved how hot the Swedish version got and it was hotter than ones that I have tried in the past at different gyms back home. Love this place. I've come here about 3 or 4 times over the years. I came back here today (first time since they closed for COVID) and it was WONDERFUL. The only service I've tried here is the private saunas, and they are fantastic. I like saunas super hot and steamy and this place delivers. I came here today with my Finnish friend (who is VERY EXPERIENCED with saunas) and he was not disappointed. The staff are very friendly and I've always felt welcome upon entering. They are very helpful and will answer your questions or provide you anything you need. We were given towels and a sheet to sit on in the sauna. In the sauna itself there was eucalyptus water, a shower, sink, and a bucket for putting water on the rocks. It cost $65 for 90 minutes (there were two of us, we paid about 30 something each. We had sauna #9). Worth every penny and I will 100% come back here again. I hope to check out their reflexology and massage services at some point! read more

This place is a gem. I found this plave via yelp when i was looking for a private sauna a few weeks back. I has brought a friend and my girlfriend aswell. We booked 2 rooms and made sure we wanted wet head as opposed to the dry. Location was sketchy but as we walked in, we didnt feel uneasy. The front desk was funny, accomadating, helpful and thorough with their explanations on how to do things. ( do mention that its your first time there if it is.) We were told that each private room is pressure washed between each use and to yell down the hallf if we ever needed anything. This place althrough not sparkly and state of the art, was clean, straightforward and very relaxing. For an hour and a half, this pleace is cheap and worth every dollar spent. Upon entering you're greeted with a welcoming front desk, and everything is extremely nice and clean. Before moving into Strathcona I never thought I'd be setting foot in here. I used to go by on the bus and think "ewwww gross! a sauna in this part of the city? Which I'm sure most people who haven't been in here think. But then one day after a particularly brutal boot camp that left me barely able to move I decided it might be worth checking out. I am so glad I did. Despite the location and the outwards appearance this place is a gem. $20 plus tax gets you a steam room all to yourself. Plus all steam rooms come with a shower room and dressing room attached. You also get towels, a sheet to put down on the bench in the steam room and face cloths. You get an hour in the steam room, plus 30 minutes in the dressing room after. I found the dude running the place to be super helpful and discussed the different rooms and heat strengths with me. I've come back with friends and you can rent rooms up to 4 people I think. Might be a fun thing to do for a ladies night. read more

This is a sauna place on two floors. The ground level, which is also the top floor, allows you to rent a sauna with your friends. It costs around $13-$15 for about 90 minutes. We had four people and they gave us a six-person room. Once inside the room, it's clothing optional (you might want to ask your pals before stripping down to your birthday suit, but I'll leave that up to you). Each entry room has two cot-type beds, a mirror, a fan and a place to hang your clothes. You can lock those on either side. Those led into a shower room, but it only had one shower head. The sauna was connected to the shower room. The sauna had two benches (tiered one above the other) and it was a tight fit to sit four people on one tier. Sitting some up, some down was kinda kinky considering the close quarters and sweaty nature of the sauna. Some of the highlights of the experience was the chain to pull for water on the rocks to cause steam and heat up the room; and the eucalyptus oil available for an invigorating smell. The place is about 80 years old, it's in good condition and clean, but it's a far cry from modern. One person in our party complained of "old man smell." The bottom floor is a men-only public sauna. I've heard it's roomier, but I'm not allowed in! read more

I used to go to this place all the time after skiing about 20 year ago, and went back for the first time in ages about a month ago. It's as good as ever. Never been downstairs, just talking here about the private saunas upstairs. It's very beat up, but clean, and you will get a real sauna there - for most people, it will make any other sauna you have been in seem like a complete joke. You get a private room, a private shower and a private sauna - cost me $17 dollars because I went in the afternoon - I think it's a few more dollars during peak hours. You get 60 minutes in the sauna, and another half an hour in your room to cool off afterwards. If you are the kind of person who needs everything to be new and shiny and nice, stay away. This place shows its years. But if you are the kind of person who likes to broil the meat off your skeleton in a wet sauna that kicks as much ass as you can handle, get in there and give it a try. It's the gold standard in intensity and authenticity - HIGHLY recommended. read more

Wet hot vs dry hot The facilities are old even a bit run down, but kept clean. Free eucalyptus mixed with water in a bottle is a nice treat if you're into a bit of a lung opening experience! Maybe the private rooms are a different story, but the public area downstairs was utterly disgusting. The guy at the desk assured me this place was clean, with "high end" clients (whatever that means), and no funny business (i.e. an actual sauna where you can relax, not some pick up joint). He basically lied on all fronts. It turned out to be a dark, moldy, rust filled basement with leaky showers, and with old men in the corner of the steam room playing with each other's privates. The dry sauna was pitch black and also full of people in the corners doing god knows what, but I didn't stick around to find out. I've been to several Russian banyas and Finnish saunas in the states and Canada, and I've never seen such a nasty place. Definitely never going back. read more

I went here on March 22 Sunday, at 3:00pm Had no reservation. But you should call ahead and make one. I ended up with my own private Change room, Shower, Sauna, 2 day beds, like message tables to rest on in the room, also had a fan in it. The price was $17 for 90mins, the dry Sauna was like a blast furnace amazingly hot, oh yeah! you get a clean towel big one and a small sheet, a face clothe also a bucket too fill with cold water, which I put my face clothe in and kept myself wet, a bottle with eucalyptus mixture to squirt on the sauna rocks. I did'nt try it but they also have wet steam baths also. Next time. It was worth it. read more

Absolutely love this place. It is one of my favorite spots in Vancouver. While most of the old Scandinavian saunas in the region have dried up, Hastings still goes strong. Love the place and its rustic old-school feel. Love that there is an establishment you can bring all genders and have a sauna to yourself. I have also done the public men's sauna and enjoyed it, and its quite a bit cheaper. read more

What a scam! Their website is full of lies. True it's been around since 1926, but the comments about the 'mosaic tiles' is pure bullsh*t - there's absolutely no historic elements in the interior of the basement men's sauna. The last reno was probably in the 1970's. Cracked or missing tiles, fake brick panelling, old lockers, dank and stinky mold smell, and sauna doors with dry rot. The health board should be made aware of this dump. Spend your money somewhere else where the owners DON'T lie to your face to scam a buck off of you... read more

When goggling I found some gay hang out reference to it. went anyway and it seemed totally legitimate other normal people there Saunas were hot and private no need for cloths, I enjoyed it I don't like the price about $22 each to expensive to go often I would not call the place dirty but this place is old and how clean can you get tile that's 50 years old. My finish wife liked the authenticity of it reminding her of her grandma's sauna. But the walls of the change room are just painted OCB. I like this place and have been 4 times. I love good time-tested, authentic things, so am not put off by the age of HS&SC. In fact, I consider it a privilege to be a customer in this anachronism. It's always been clean here, and it doesn't stink of toxic 'perfumes'. There's a fairly neutral, sauna-like scent in the air. The staff are polite and clear about the policies and protocols. I (as a single woman) was strongly discouraged from using the downstairs group sauna, which apparently has a whole different ambiance. I like the layout of the rooms each customer uses: there's a small room with two beds for dressing and lying down in after sauna, then the shower room, which has a door to the custodian's cleaning hallway, then your own sauna with a squirt bottle of eucalyptus water for the rocks. Nice. Thankfully, there's absolutely no frou frou here. I should admit that I only like authentic, high-quality things, am very critical of nonsense, a born label-reader, and am not swayed by pretty packaging or advertising. I wish I had time to go here more often. I absorb every bit of heat I can here (the custodian knows which saunas are hottest) and leave feeling pretty baked and cleansed. So, let me try to be as objective as possible so you can make up your own mind. I'll start with the facts only. And this will be useful for men only. Went on a Monday afternoon, around 2:30, for the first time. Guy working there answered my questions in a friendly manner. I chose to use the downstairs section. It is old, yes. Hard to say that it wasn't clean, because old looking can be confused with dirty. But nothing major was noticed as far as cleanliness. Only 2 other men were there as I entered. One of them was leaving. I went into the wet sauna (not the one that's dark). Since I was by myself, I lied on my back, on my towel, and used the corner of the towel to cover my junk. The other man that was still there came in but I kept my eyes closed. Did not make any eye contact. He sat down and not too long after he started touching my leg! I jumped, and said "please don't do that". He then said "I just wanted to give you a bit of a rub" to which I replied, "I don't need it". He ended up leaving the sauna shortly after. After maybe 10 minutes in the heat, I got out and went into one of the showers. He followed me and stood there naked, watching me shower. Told me how he liked my body. I told him I wasn't there to "play". He stayed there watching me until I left the shower. He didn't do anything else, but he kept going in and out of each room, even though I was the only one there. Now to the "subjective" part of my review: This guy was totally inappropriate. I never made eye contact with him, never sollicited anything from him yet he did this. He was obviously looking for action. I wasn't able to relax needless to say. This is not the establishment's fault I guess, but the staff must know that this is happening. Why would they keep one of the saunas dark? I can't speak of the upstairs section. But had a bad experience because of that individual. read more

Great place to go very helpful. Low rating because I totally don't think it's 100% clean and I mean there's a lot of drug users that I see that go down to the public sauna.. Not to mention all the gay guys that go play around down there, nothing wrong with gays but nobody should be doing that stuff in public. Also I hear they are very touchy with new guys.
