*Hats Galore @The River* Not many stores can say they've been at The River in Rancho Mirage as long as Hats Unlimited. And there's lots of reasons why. Fantastico inventory, Alina, reasonable prices, and Alina :) Every time I'm at The River, a quick stop at this store is a must for me. Whether it's to make a purchase or just browse. I have an extensive hat collection -- mostly baseball style caps. I prefer my hats low-profile and lightweight or DryFit. I've been eyeing a particular hat here, but it's very similar to one of my Boston Red Sox hats. It's so similar, I've refrained from buying it. But I keep thinking about that Rancho Mirage hat -- especially when I'm not in the mood to sport my Red Sox colors or a simple shape of red. And today was finally time to do the deed. Nearly every time I come home with a new hat, wifey joking says her greatest hits: "what do you need another hat for?" "don't you already have a hat like that?" "another hat?" "How much did you pay for that?" But not this time...and even tho it looks very much like that Red Sox hat, when she saw it, she understood why I couldn't help myself. (Btw I walked in the kitchen wearing the hat and she didn't even notice it was new until I kept laughing and saying over & over "I knew you wouldn't notice" until she realized it's a new addition to my collection? Tho I've been to Hats Unlimited several times, I've never had the pleasure of meeting & chatting with their outstanding team player, Alina. She takes pride in her outstanding customer service, with a beautiful smile that lights up the room and all the hats. The store is always clean, neat & tidy...and I've never seen a single cap displaced. The store was cute with a decent collection but the service was terrible. The guy working was pretty useless when it came to helping us with finding something 3 pre teen would like. When we found something we liked, yikes, super expensive!! So you are probably thinking just leave the store and go somewhere else which would have been my first instinct but I didn't want to be "that" type of customer when I just wanted to give some kids a fun souvenir for the night. They have a decent selection of hats for men and women. It's a smaller less cozy store after they moved from their previous location across from the Cheesecake Factory. I would give more stars but the service is horrible. There was only one cashier and she took a bathroom break as noted by the piece of paper that was posted on the cash register. She finally came back after I waited for about 5 minutes. Anyone could've walked out with hats at this point. She sat on a chair behind the counter and there was a huge plexiglass divider between us that made you feel like your visiting someone in prison. I saw lots of handwritten paper signs telling you the return policy, all sales final, no exchanges etcetera. It was very unprofessional. I guess none of that matters if you are desperate. Hats Unlimited is a great store with a wide selection of hats in all styles including fun hats and hats for kids. Staff is friendly and prices are good. A special shout out to employee Inti who went above and beyond to ship my seven year old grandson's Nintendo Switch back to us after he accidentally left it in the store. You made a little kid so happy and grateful. We'll definitely be back on our next trip to the desert read more

What a fun little store! I recently started wearing hats because I learned they can be so stylish, if you wear them correctly. Haha. After having dinner nearby, we stopped in just for sh*ts and giggles. However, once in the store, we had fun trying on various hats. They had bamboo hats, cowboy hats, sun hats with spf, costume hats, and baseball hats, and more. They had a women's side and a men's side. I actually fell in love with a straw fedora hat. I bought this beauty for only $13.99! It's perfect for summer! I also grabbed a business card. They have locations in Ventura, Palm Springs, La Jolla, and Solvang. I will be back!! read more

The inventory is exceptional!!!! Customer service is terrible. Had a very bad experience with a male employee. He was rude to the point that makes me consider not shopping at Hat's Unlimited. Might I suggest talking to your employee and offering him some customer service training? I have shopped at Hats Unlimited for many years and enjoyed every purchase until today. Yesterday I walked into the Rancho Mirage store, no greeting, no person to be seen. Then I find the salesman with a long braid and glasses sitting behind the counter. While he knew I was in the store looking around, no help was offered. I did find two hats and took them to the counter to pay for them. The next day I returned to Hats Unlimited wanting to only exchange the color of one of my hats. The very same salesman was still sitting behind the counter. I explained that I just wanted to pick a different color for the same hat. While I was looking he actually came from behind the counter to tell me that the receipt in the bag was for a different store. I then realized that I had brought the wrong receipt with me. I mentioned to him that I made the purchase just the day before and only wanted to get a different color, Over and over he said that he was unable to let me choose a different color without a receipt. At this point, I am getting frustrated with him for not giving customer service or satisfaction. I do understand there is a store policy, but clearly, this could have been the exception to the rule to make the customer happy. He accused me of yelling and having a bad attitude. At that point, I asked for the Manager's name. He asked me why I wanted the name and after asking several times he finally wrote it down on a card for me. This could have gone much better, instead, this salesperson was so rude and chose to treat me with disrespect. read more

Just came in to buy a hat on 3/11/20 at 6:20pm. Young Latin guy was a dick. Asked to see a hat and said he had to help me because it was behind counter. I totally understand. I stood to the side of the counter and he said that I could not stand behind counter and I replied good thing I'm on the side of the counter. Then he said no you can't stand anywhere in this vicinity. WTF? Completely inappropriate. So I walked out. No you can't get my business and never will. No wonder your business did not work at other location. There are plenty of other hat businesses that know how to treat a customer. read more

I actually had the opposite experience from the previous yelper that posted. I went into this store today and purchased a blue gentlemen's country looking fedora and received the best customer service. One of the owners was there along with a gal, both were helpful in selecting the right size and fit for what I was looking for in a hat. I'm one who wears a lot of hats and will be shopping there again. The store is clean, extremely organized and with great friendly service. I highly recommend them. read more

I have always had difficulty finding hats in my size and when I walked into Hats Unlimited in Rancho Las Palmas I was surprised by the selection, outstanding customer service and several hats in my style, color and size. The associate was very attentive and also placed another hat to the side for me to pick up in a week. On Sunday, October 30, my wife and I decided to buy a hat here. I needed one since I was going to China and Taiwan and needed head protection. I am a local and have purchased here before. Great selection. Enjoyed the browsing and eventually found what I needed. But, the young lady working behind the counter this afternoon has the worst customer service skills I've seen in quite a while. When we entered the store, she didn't bother looking up or welcome us. Like I said, I was browsing and looking for a specific hat, so I was inside for a while. She did not walk around the counter or from behind the counter bother asking if we needed help. After about 20-30 minutes, I found what I wanted and then went to browse the Tilley hats. The young lady didn't bother to inform me of the better quality Tilley's and maybe change my choice of hats. When I went to purchase the one I chose, she didn't ask if i needed anything else, how was my day going, etc. No politeness, no interest, no thank you, no have a lovely afternoon, nothing. And mind you, I have a customer service background and always try to make pleasant conversation with the people behind the counters. This really was unacceptable. The hat selection here is fabulous. I know I'll be back. But the one star is for the young lady's lack of customer skills. read more
