Surprisingly good! The space is small with intimate lighting, my aunt and uncle love this place and took us here when we came to visit for his birthday. It's not hibachi entertainment however they have plates like you would get from a hibachi restaurant. The spring roll app was fresh and hot! They have refills on their tea and everyone enjoyed their meal. I had the grilled salmon and veggies that came with salad and a soup. The color of the veggies looked dull, it may also be because of the lighting, but it didn't stop it from having great flavor. I placed my order at 5:45pm and it is now 8:15pm and our order is still not ready. We have three children under 5 and we now have had to make alternate plans for food. Their service is unacceptable. The teriyaki chicken dinner meal was good. The food is cooked to order , and the business hours are only three hours, so the wait was a bit long but the food was freshly made. The soup that came with the meal was delicious. The house and chicken fried rice was a bit salty and oily but had a good taste. No need for extra soy sauce for those. Small, intimate spot in Bolivar with some of the best Japanese food I've ever had. Sashimi was beautiful presentation and the tuna was deep pink and so fresh. Excellent!!! We have eaten at many restaurants that serve sushi at numerous price points, and Hatsuhana is our favorited hands down. As a family, we judge all other sushi to the Hatsuana standard. The seating area accommodates 20-25 people. So, if you plan to try it out on the weekend you may need to get there early. The owners are very polite and the lead sushi chef is phenomenal! Hatsuhana is a true asset to Bolivar. If you are local...We highly recommend that you add it to your list of places to eat. If you are passing through...don't let the modest small strip mall exterior stop you from trying it out. The food is great! This has to be the best place in West TN for Sushi, Hibachi and fried rice. We live near Oakland but drove out to Bolivar (not a bad drive) after someone recommended this place. We live over 30 miles away and like to go here for Japanese food, passing by places that are closer to home. For a small town, it is an excellent Japanese restaurant, but it would still be excellent in a big city too! The pork gyosas are outstanding as is the shirmp tempura, Try the Sumo or Godzilla plates, you won't be disappointed. They are not open for lunch or on Sundays unfortuneately. My husband and I have eaten here a few times since moving to Bolivar in the last 9 months. I ordered something different tonight, and I had the hibachi chicken with fried rice instead of the steamed rice. All was well and good until we went to pay for the meal. They charged an extra $2 for the fried rice, which is actually the cost to buy the rice on the side. We asked why it was an extra charge, since there was no note on the menu, and the server said nothing about an extra charge for the rice. It wasn't a big deal, but we just wanted to know why it was extra. Why pay it when you didn't know, right? I'm guessing he was the manager or the owner came over, and my husband told him it wasn't a big deal, and we were fine paying it. He just didn't understand why it was an upcharge we were unaware of and that cost the price of the whole side. The older guy then asked the waiter if he had told us that there was an upcharge, and he told the man that he told everyone that, and he had told us. I told him he had not, in fact, told us, but it was fine. We'd pay it. He kept saying and insisting that he was right, that he had told us, and that we were wrong. I'm sorry. I may be tired and have had a long day, but I KNOW what he did and didn't say to us. I told him I didn't appreciate him getting ugly with us and being rude, and he was even worse. I told him not to expect a tip, because he was being so hateful over something he never told us but that we were fine paying! He then proceeded to tell us that he doesn't work on tips, anyway, so it didn't matter what I did and didn't leave for him. We ALWAYS tip at the very least 20% if not more, and I didn't appreciate having my money insulted. I might understand if I sat at home or my husband sat at home all day doing nothing, but we both work hard and spent a decent amount of money tonight to tip on, and he was so disrespectful. I told him we wouldn't be back if that was the way we were going to be treated over a $2 substitution of rice. They just kept re-iterating that it was always a $2 upcharge for the rice. My issue was not with the rice or the charge, but with the way we were talked to and treated. They acted like we were trying to scam them out of $2, which was so NOT the case! We WILL NOT be back and will spend our money elsewhere. I just wish there were somewhere else to complain to, because this is incredibly ridiculous!! read more

We live nowhere near this fabulous little gem, but are drawn to it because we cannot find this quality of AUTHENTIC Japanese food anywhere else - not Memphis, Tupelo, Jackson, Huntsville,-- we love Japanese cooking and this is the very best, hands down ! We've had the sushi ( fabulous ) the appetizers ( fabulous ) and the steak dinner and the Godzilla. I'm kind of hung up on the Godzilla, succulent terryaki steak, gyosa, tempura style shrimp and veggies plus rice --- but am going to try for the cold noodle and seafood dish next visit. This is definitely my most favorite restaurant EVER!!! I've been to many japanese places but this is the best! My favorite thing on the menu is either the teriyaki chicken or the fried rice. Also, I really love their sushi. They have a wide variety of raw and cooked sushi, but I prefer cooked. My favorite is the spider roll. It has soft-shell crab, roe, lettuce, cucumber, and mayonnaise. The only thing is that there is very limited seating space, and the busiest day is Friday. So coming early on friday is usually a good idea. Overall, the restaurant is a Five Star dining in my eyes. read more
