I come to this Hattendo location now and then for seasonal cream buns as well as Too Good to Go. The display case is always well kept and clean, and the service is quick, with a smile. It's just a tiny cutesy stall. There are no seats, but there's plenty of seating in the food court. I like their most basic fresh milk cream bun. The richness of the fresh milk really shines through. Just the right amount of slight sweetness, plenty of cream, very soft bun. Other flavours I've tried are chocolate, peach (seasonal), yuzu, and matcha. They're all quite good when fresh. If you get them off Too Good to Go, they're a bit soggy and squished -- you get what you pay for. The egg salad sandwich is very mid. Nothing special, just exactly what it is. It's a really reasonable price though, and filling, at just $6 something. read more

I saw these all over Instagram and wanted to give it a try... even though they are pretty pricey and really small. I think a lot of the Instagram posts were gifted/sponsored. They are mediocre at best. Nothing special at all. Reminds me of the cream buns from your local Chinese bakery, but for double the price and half the size. It came in a nice box, and they are nicely wrapped. However, I wouldn't buy these again. read more

It's not the over-the-top type of joy like a loaded funnel cake or deep-fried Mars bar. Instead, their signature cream buns ($3.69 each) are delicate sweets. Think of their joy as a gentle reminder to take time out for yourself and a sly wink that it's okay to have a small treat. The original custard version is the lightest of the bunch and tastes barely sweetened. Surely this can't even be bad for you when the solid bun seemingly turns into pillowy air that disappears in several bites. One step sweeter is the azuki bean cream bun where the fluffy cream is laced with finely blended red bean, so you get a hint of the flavours. It's nothing like the rich thick paste you find in other azuki products, the milky cream is still the star. I expected the matcha cream bun to the powerful with its vibrant green hue, but in Hattendo fashion, the green tea flavours were restrained. The filling did have a slight bitter finish, but so mild that if I didn't know I was eating I wouldn't have pegged it as being a matcha bun - there wasn't that traditional grassiness that you get from the product. True matcha fans may be disappointed. For a real indulgence, the chocolate cream bun will taste the most decadent, with the filling having a rich chocolate mousse feeling being denser and creamier than everything else. As the heaviest of the buns, you'll want to leave this for last if you're having multiple buns, which isn't a difficult task as these palm sized buns seem to disappear so quickly! Our household enjoyed the hazelnut cream bun ($4.19) the most - one of the specialty flavours for the warmer weather. A winning combination of luscious sweet cream and earthy nutty hazelnut, it had a surprisingly strong taste for something that looked so light. I also enjoyed the little bits of nut sprinkled throughout the filling that added a nice texture against all the soft elements. You can enjoy a full meal from Hattendo since they serve two savoury products as well. The tamago burger ($5) takes their cream bun and fills it was a finely chopped egg salad. Interestingly, the bun's whole flavour and texture changes and becomes denser, sort of like a brioche hamburger bun that smells more like milk than butter. I tried four of their cream buns - strawberry, matcha, custard and honey dew (seasonal special). All the flavours except for the custard were strong, and they did not cheap out on flavour or filling! The strawberry and honey dew tasted like real fruit flavour and not the artificial type of strawberry and honey dew flavouring. Only thing is that the pastry doesn't taste as fresh as it could be, possibly due to the moisture from the filling. I also tried the hojicha black sesame latte. It was really good as well and had a lot of tea flavour rather than being super milky which I liked! Lastly, I tried the egg salad sandwich. It was flavourful, creamy and reminded my boyfriend and I of the egg sandwiches in Japan (although bread isn't as soft). read more

Bun was little wet but extremely delicate and fluffy even though it was stored in refrigerator for sometimes. unfortunately cream was bit of let down. while there are nothing wrong with cream itself, whole bun experience was nothing outstanding for the price tag. since it's legional specialty buns with premium price tag, i was hoping to be wowed by them but it was nothing more than soft bun filled with fluffy cream with whimp of milk. no extra milky flavour, no variety of textutes and just lack of flavour. it was nothing but simple classic store cream buns. my personal favourites are Azuki Bean Cream Bun and Oreo Cream Bun( i usually like semi sweet but oreo was just right balance of sweetness). service was excellent. the young lady was bit shy but answered all my questions kindly and told me her personal favourite way of enjoying them. great customer service and cute packaing definetly add extra points to this classic bun store. there were some fruit cream sandwitches and few other stuffs like drinks on the menu. maybe i will try those next time i visit. read more

SO SOFT and perfectly sweet! I am in LOVE with this place!! I've tried quite a few of the flavours now but my favs are matcha, custard and milk tea. But honestly they are all delicious and you can't really go wrong. They also aren't cheap with the cream inside so you aren't stuck with just eating a plain bun (which wouldn't even be that horrible). Please go!!! read more

The bread is very soft and the filling inside is a lot. There is no gap between the filling and the bread. It's a pretty good present to bring with you when visiting friends. We love all the flavours we bought, matcha, custard, read bean and melon. All of them are really creamy, make sure you put in fridge to keep them cool before you have it. One more thing I need to mention is they only add honey no sugar which won't cause you thirsty after. I would definitely buy it again!!! This new Hattendo location is located inside Yorkdale Mall's foodcourt. As soon as you go up the escalator, it's on the left hand side. The egg salad sandwiches were not bad. Nothing to write home about though. In terms of the cream buns, I've tried the chocolate, cheesecake and custard. The cheesecake is the best one so far. I personally find it with these cream buns there is too much bun compared to the cream in terms of the ratio. That is just my personal preference. read more

AMAZING. I visited for the first time a couple weeks back and wasn't disappointed after dreaming of trying out their cream buns. I was also so excited when I got there and saw that they have Tamago Sando too! tons of different cream bun flavors - I grabbed a green tea one and a chocolate one. Both were so good, absolutely delicious. They were so soft and sweet, and the cream tastes high quality - I typically can't stomach whipped creams and stuff but this didn't bother me at all. The Tamago Sando was also incredible. Perfect combo of sweet and soft bread and cold egg. Yum! To top it off, the store itself is gorgeous and clean. The pastries are displayed beautifully and they have a clear and concise menu! Staff was very friendly and polite! Loved it! read more

I've tried their regular flavors already at their downtown location and wasn't impressed. But I passed by this location and saw that they had seasonal flavors so I decided to give it another try. This time I had the peach and Oreo flavors and these are for a limited time. After another try, I am still not impressed. The bread isn't very soft and this may be due to the refrigeration required so that the custard doesn't get too soft. The custard filling flavor could be stronger as I think it's quite bland. read more
