This place has been around for many years. The food quality has stayed pretty much the same. It is better Chinese take out in my opinion but most Chinese is similar to me... The business is just take out, as the ambiance is quite plain and not much to rave about because you simply walk in, pay and walk out with food... Though they only take cash payments, they do have an ATM on site with a pretty cheap fee, I think $1 or so for withdrawls...The employees are friendly and service is fast. Doesn't matter what I order, they tell me 10 minutes and I get there shortly after and it's ready. I assume most is pre prepped but doesn't seem to affect the quality. If you are in the mood for some fried, "carby" food other than fast food, then I recommend hau po. read more

When I walked in and picked up my order the stench alone should have sent me sailing. However, I chalked it up to dirty fryer oil and proceeded to pick up my much desired order. However, the wonton soup was complete mush. The fried rice, general tsaos chicken, and oddly the pork lo mein all tasted exactly the same. Like old fryer oil. You know, the smell I mentioned earlier. Unable to get that smell and taste out of my throat I proceeded to vomit half my dinner back up shortly thereafter. Certainly not the evening I had in mind. So that's my experience here. Wow! Service was not great. Timing was not great. The food made up for all of that! Crab Rangoon and Egg Rolls were unbelievable. General Tso dinner combo was great as well. All for a good price. Definitely recommend if you find yourself in that area! read more

Just ordered carry out from Hau Po, which is starting to become a somewhat weekly ritual, and that is for a reason. Tonight I got General Tso's Chicken with a side of Lou Mein, which was great as usual, chicken was the perfect amount of sweet with a tad of spicyness. The noodles where also great as usual. I'm not sure how, but it seems that every time you walk through the door you are greeted with a mixed aroma of freshly baked rice, chicken, noodles, and egg rolls. Also the dining room has more than enough seating so you will never have to wait for a seat. If you're ordering take out or ordering in the dining room, don't plan on it taking long. The meals on average take about 10 minutes to be prepared and cooked, which is great if you are in a hurry. My only complaint is that they do not accept debit or credit cards, which is pretty common in a small town such as Jefferson, so make sure you have enough cash with you. I myself have had many lunches and dinners at many different Chinese restaurants, and Hau Po is just as good, if not better, than some more popular chain restaurants. My personal favorite is the Sesame Seed Chicken with a side of rice, or the classic Pork Fried Rice. read more

This restraunt is very good. They give you very large portions of food so do not order a big amount of food. I had wonton soup and beef and mixed vegetables the wonton soup was delicious and the beef and vegetables was very good too. The beef and vegetables actually came with a sweet sauce too. read more

I have been coming here since they opened years ago as I live right around the corner. I didn't think a Chinese restaurant would survive in a small town, but they've done better than that. My dad and myself befriended the owners/operators when they first came to town and tried to help them find a place to live. They walk to work 7 days a week and are the only cooks there so they are very hard working. They're genuinely nice people and want to make an honest living but there is a bit of a language and culture barrier. So don't think they're being rude on purpose as Chinese culture is very different from ours. (My dad travels there regularly for work and can describe the huge differences, basically, no manners there.) with all that said, ... the food is great. Consistently some of the best (Americanized) Chinese food around. I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal there, although I highly recommend you get the food to-go based on the fact that the sit in service is not very good. It's a clean facility, although there's reasons for poor eat-in service, you won't be pleased. In conclusion, call your order in; they typically don't get it wrong over the phone, pick it up fresh 20 minutes later and enjoy a delicious meal, I have yet to get Hau Po for someone and have them end up disappointed, most people even say it's much better than New Orient in Ashtabula. Always thought this place was great and I don't know of anyone who disagrees, enjoy! read more

I get take out from there at least once a week and have only been disappointed by one item and that's the fried rice. You get VERY little ingredients other than rice. Everything else has been fantastic and I highly recommend it. Even the items marked as "spicy" aren't so much so that you can't enjoy it. read more

Hau PO has performed an amazing feat: they have perfected coffee brewing technology as applied to Chinese food. The restaurant smells fantastic, but the food does not live up to the aromatic promise. We came for dinner (and, unusually, to eat there; most people appear to get take-out, but they were happy to seat us in the small dining area). We ordered fried dumplings, roast pork egg rolls, hot & sour soup, and a collection of entrees. The roast pork egg rolls and dumplings arrived first; an unpromising but not alarming start. The roast pork egg rolls were almost entirely cabbage, and poor cabbage at that, in addition to an undercooked and not very crispy wrapper. Nobody finished a whole one. The fried dumplings (which seemed to be beef, unusually, rather than pork) were unimpressive but entirely edible; the sauce they came with was similarly unworthy of comment. The soup arrived next - a quart of hot and sour (and delivered in the to-go quart container - we observed that the descriptions of sizes as pints and quarts on the menu was a pleasant innovation for the to-go service). Duly distributed and tried, and it was not much to anyone's taste - sweeter than usual, and made with a somewhat acrid and unpleasant vinegar. The only particularly positive note was the very flavorful roast pork, but the pieces were surprisingly tough even for that. The entrees arrived - and I will observe that the service was speedy and friendly, although they were serving food of no particular appeal. The moo shu had the same unusual and unpleasant flavor that the hot and sour soup had, all of the broccoli (especially the broccoli in the broccoli and garlic sauce) tasted off, and the hunan beef was limp, too sweet, and otherwise almost flavorless. It still smelled good on the way out, though. read more

General Tsos was excellent! Lo mein noodles were very tender and flavorful. Staff was attentive and friendly. The place is clean, smells nice and is strangely pleasant compared to most of the Chinese places in this county. Overall a good experience. Good Chinese Food! Staff is very Outgoing, Fast and Friendly which is hard to come by! The Sweet and Sour Chicken is delicious as is the General Chows Chicken and Sesame Chicken. My family and I were camping in the area and opted for chinese food for one night. We stopped by this place and were greeted and seated promptly! We were not disappointed! Everything came out fresh and piping hot! We had a good variety of the food on the menu... I believe between the five of us we ordered 7 different things and we all shared.
