Pamela was kind, knowledgeable, and interspersed the history of Knoxville and various buildings/restaurants as we went on our walking tour down Gay Street and Market Square. We stopped and had tastings (appetizers/small meals) at three local restaurants, tea tasting at a local tea shop, and dessert over 3 hours. The portions were more than enough to enjoy without being uncomfortable by the end of the tour. I highly recommend Pamela and her food tour. We are locals and still learned a lot and got to try new things. Would make for a great date or fun day out with friends!

The tour itself was fun to see the belly of operations for each brewery and have a few samples of their swill. We enjoyed a white stout, alt beer, NEIPAs and a lager or two. I was able to snag a burger from the Abridged Truck at Xul. What I consider to be the best smashy-burger in all of Knoxville. We all had time to snag a pint at the brewery but it was a grab and go type of thing. The tour guide Ace kept us on schedule and we all enjoyed our samples and quick history and brewing lessons wrapped into the tour. Our group had a blast and the groom had to helped to the car, so mission completed!

The Knoxville Visitors Center is head and shoulders above any other I've been to regarding the service and the offerings. What other center has a working radio station, complete with live music performances (Blue Plate Special)? There are countless maps, bus, trolley, and event schedules, biz flyers, and a fairly comprehensive gift shop. I love that the gift shop is full of local vendor merchandise. This spot is a true celebration of our city. Make sure to check out the outdoor wall mural near the rear parking lot.

We ended up going on a Friday night and had a total blast. Ace was our guide, and she was super fun and knowledgeable. She had an engaging way of telling us about the beer-making process, and I learned some cool stuff. Fluffy was our driver/pourer, and transported us around safely; it was so great to get a little drunk and not have to worry about transportation. I liked that the tour is built around the interests of the people on it, which means every tour is a little bit different. There were plenty of snacks on board, and I definitely appreciated the endless supply of water. The only thing I wish is that we could have had a little more time at each brewery, as it felt like we were rushing from spot to spot. One thing that's really great about this tour is that it gives a bit of a taste of lots of different kinds of beers, beginning with mild and easy ones and working up to darker or more experimental beer. About 10 years ago we took the same boat ride and traveled farther down the River. Along the route, a man narrated our short journey pointing out buildings and markers along the way--however, with diners carrying on conversations, background music playing, dishes clanking and the engines roaring, it was difficult to hear even half of what he said. Again, the buffet lunch tasted fine, nothing outstanding, yet the chicken appeared to be seasoned with pepper and maybe a bit of salt. Perhaps a Chicken Piccata with slices of lemon in a creamy sauce or chicken-broth-seasoned sauce would have been more creative. The stewed cinnamon-sugar apples with pastry, served warm in the buffet might have been offered at the end of the food line as a dessert and in a separate dish. Instead, it appeared after the buttery biscuits and before the cold pasta salad with cucumbers and tomatoes and the hot carrots and corn. Overall, perhaps the paddle wheeler is an excellent experience for a first-time rider and a wonderful party venue for special events like weddings, birthdays and anniversaries. Having sailed twice before, this $45 per person ride (there were 4 of us) needed a more clearly-heard narration, a longer ride, and perhaps more creative food. Kudos to the servers, though! You can explore galleries, studios, and artist collectives; roam through shops hosting open houses and local artist exhibits; enjoy performance art and live music in the streets and a variety of venues; drop in restaurants along the way and treat yourself to drinks and culinary pleasures. You never know what you are going to find and it's a great way to support our local Arts Community. The galleries have extended hours on First Friday nights so can pop in after work and enjoy what you might miss out on during the week. We were given a tour with just our family which was really cool. We all really loved the tour. It was great for our son who could touch a lot of objects. They also had a table to try and write with a quill. I would recommend the mansion if you love history.
