This was my very first walking tour & I LOVED it! It had everything: great location (love Greenwich Village), great stories about the histories of the people who lived there, and yes, true ghost stories and hauntings. Some of the stories and sites were sad and tragic, and other ghost sightings simply endearing. If you love history, hauntings, and a very entertaining night out, book a tour. Our tour was with Joseph Salvatore Knipper who portrayed Prof. Clerval. Knipper immediately captivated us with his thorough knowledge, comedic timing, and great acting chops! Our large group was quickly enthralled! Prof. Clerval is a well respected lecturer at NYU who unfortunately like many educators of higher eduction must take on a second job. As a Tour Guide. The good professor of history Dr. Clerval knows what he's talking about, because chances are he was there. (I secretly believe he is a time traveler, or that he himself is a ghost) He often talks in the "Well from what I understand blah blah blah..." angle, but then he'll let it slip out "The building was built in 1922 and as it was being built I thought to myself wow that's a really big building - Gah?! What was I saying??!" Joseph Knipper is very amusing, clever, and kept us entertained. At 1.7 miles the tour is easy on the feet, the knees, and a nice jaunt through Greenwich Village. We really enjoyed our time in the Greenwich Village tour! I can't remember our professor's name, but he said this was his second "class" ever- he did a great job! He was a great storyteller and enthusiastic the whole time. He seemed to love what he was doing, and the group responded well to him. It was about 70% history and 30% spooky stories. If you ask me, that is the sweet spot. I have been on a few other ghost tours in other cities, and 70-30 seems to be the right balance for these things. Something I really appreciated is that our guide told stories from his own research. It sounds like the team of guides not only checked historical sources for their stories but have gotten first-hand accounts from people like NYU students and current residents of the more spiritually active properties on the tour. *I do think there needs to be a trigger warning for the Greenwich Village tour. Two of the ghost stories contained gruesome details of child abuse. I know people can be sensitive to these types of stories, and I wouldn't want it to ruin someone's time. Honestly, the tour would have been just as good and only a minute or two shorter if those stories were simply cut out. My boyfriend and I booked the NYC Ghost Tour for last night, and I was an absolute blast! Our guide was Jocelyn, and she was a hoot. She was able to captivate a group of 14 of us with ease. She was spunky and truly knew her stuff! The entire tour took around an hour and a half, and we got so many history lessons. From Politicians to a most famous poet, the sights we saw were fascinating. We definitely got some "paranormal" vibes near the textile factory and a dispensary where Edgar Allan Poe was known to be treated for colds (Pre HIPAA ha!). After Halloween ended, my friend and I wanted something fun to do that was a little spooky but also gave us the opportunity to do what we love most; walk around the city and learn about its history. The Greenwich Village tour was the perfect post Halloween activity! Our tour guide, Professor Clerval, was witty, fun and knowledgable! I really enjoyed learning about the history of some of the buildings in Greenwich Village and knowing some of the spooky stories! I plan to go to the other tours now that I know how fun it is! Not gonna lie, i didn't give this five stars because it was scary. If that is what you look for in ghost tours, don't go here. The best thing about this is the comedy without a doubt. I am not sure if there are multiple guides, but if you get a small guy who calls himself a proffesor, you will have a great time, guaranteed. By mixing interesting facts, which are most definately true (unlike other haunted tours), Haunted Manhatten brings creepy stories and comedy to any tourist or client. We went on the Five Points Haunted Tour last night with tour guide W. M. Blackwood. I love the history of my city, and I am a big fan of Gangs of New York, so when I heard about this tour, I just had to go. It was a great tour, and our guide just took it to another level. William is extremely knowledgeable about all things 5-Points and was hitting us with so many facts and stories it was like drinking water from a firehose. William shares these stories with you in such a theatrical & entertaining way that makes the tour a lot of fun and really brings the characters to life. I would highly recommend this tour. read more

We loved Professor Mortimer and this tour. We went as an activity for a large group of friends- there were about 8 of us. I cannot recommend this enough if you need something to do with a big group! The Professor was great at making our group feel special while including the other people along for the tour. We were quite rowdy at times, and the Professor not only met us joke for joke, he kept the focus on the tour. Many of us are NYC natives, and had no idea about the history of the places we walk every day. This tour is a great mix of spooky and silly, just right for a night out with friends. read more

Went on a tour of Greenwich Village this evening. I completely forgot our guides name but he was truly amazing. Me and my girlfriend were the only bookings of the night and he still went all in and didn't hold back. At first It seemed it was going to be a little awkward with just us and him but within minutes he had us completely taken away with his stories of the dark past of Manhattan. He was hilarious, knowledgeable, and passionate about what he was talking about. Loved it! We did the East Village tour with Frankie and it was so entertaining and informative! She did a terrific job with keeping us all enthralled with her natural storytelling abilities. She was personable, made it a point to remember and use everyone's names, and clearly knows her stuff. We hit many sites around the East Village and learned so much we never would have on our own. This is a great tour for people who love history and creepy stories about real people- not a tour for people who want to "contact" ghosts using dowsing rods or anything like that. My friend and I went on the East Village tour last Friday night and we had a blast!!!! Our guide Frankie was awesome!!! She was fun, knowledgeable and considerate. I walk with a cane and Frankie made sure I was not left behind and that I was with the group before she started. She made sure that I did not miss anything on the tour. The tour with Professor Mortimer through Greenwich Village was amazing! He was so much fun and very knowledgeable. He not only was very entertaining but I got the sense that he was truly interested in the experiences of the people on the tour & wanted to include everybody. We went on a tour of the five points and surrounding area withW.M. Blackwood and loved every second of it. He was witty and entertaining. Also very knowledgeable about the material he was talking about and the ground we covered. It was delicious fun and we would definitely do it again. Worth every penny for my daughter and myself. I went on the tour of West Village. My tour guide, Kia AKA "The Concierge", was AMAZING! It was obvious that he did his research and was an expert of the area. He offered haunted as well as general history. Unfortunately, I didn't see any real ghosts on the tour but I'm not blaming that on the company. It's the end of October so dress accordingly and wear comfortable shoes because it is a walking tour after all. read more

My girlfriend and I went on a tour of the Five Points, led by William Blackwood. We had a great time and William was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We learned so much about the history of the area and enjoyed hearing about some of the ghosts in the area. While we didn't see any ghosts ourselves, we've got no regrets in choosing this tour.
