Hand rolled cigars in the heart of Miami's historic Calle Ocho. Prices are reasonable for this super touristy neighborhood but in my opinion there's a few things are must trys in Little Havana - Cuban coffee, Cuban sandwich and Cuban cigar. During our tour of Little Havana we had the opportunity to checkout this famous cigar bar. We could smell the the tobacco when we walked in the door. The cigar craftsmen were wrapping the tobacco into the cigar leaf. They were kind enough to to stop and take pictures and give us a inside look into the cigar process and a quick history lesson. They explained the difference between a cigar and cigarettes wrapping paper. Cigars contain a higher level of nicotine. Most people smoke but don't inhale. Tourists and locals come in to purchase these handmade cigars. They are not imported but made solely in-house. They also serve beverages and have a lounge area for sitting and enjoying the laid back atmosphere. My friend purchased a few mild cigars for her dad and we completed the tour. We discussed that we were novices to cigar culture, but she was delighted to walk me through to the different types and the best fit for me. I was clear that I prefer dark liquor with hints of cacao and caramel, not cheap ethanol smelling (rubbing alcohol) giving you a hangover where you may have made poor decisions. Pour me that aged rum, aged tequila, and your finest mezcal! My bad, I digressed. I requested for cigars that paired well for my 7 años Havana Club (HC), did me one better. Not only did she describe the flavors for 7 year HC, but her personal recommendation was to pair the mild and medium cigars with a 12 year Flor de Cana rum. That 12 year is also delicious. NEVER GIVING YOU A PENNY My plan was to spend time in this shop and possibly purchase a few BOXES of cigars to take back home. We waited a bit to pick up a rental car then I set my maps to this shop. Once I get there I walk to the back and find the restrooms have a keypad. I politely ask the girl at the coffee shop for the code & another woman from behind me starts to explain the bathroom policy. You MUST purchase something to generate a code for the restroom. I explained to her that I was there to take my time and select a few boxes but really felt a uncomfortable as I needed to use the restroom first. I assured her I would be buying their products. She again now very firmly & rude states it's a rule and she only works there. So there isn't an overriding code you can use? This would have been a singled out incident and make a customer very happy. This sole interaction with this one lady immediately made me make a decision to tell her I will be not buying anything and plan to tell everyone of how they treat customers. I walked out and just a few shops down another cigar shop welcomed me in and allowed me to use the restroom right away BEFORE I bought anything. So my last bit of advice is DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY on a shop that cares ZERO about customers. THE VERY BEST CIGAR SHOP IS A FEW BLOCKS DOWN don't be lazy and yoU won't be disappointed. My husband enjoyed a cigar, and I enjoyed the best Cuban coffee. Jessie mentioned that there would be a black smoke event the next day and that we should come back. We took her word and returned on Saturday 2/18 and were not disappointed. While in Little Havana, my girlfriend took me to Havana Classic Cigar. It was recently featured on "Married to Medicine" where they hand roll their cigars. Ivan, the tour guide, was awesome. He explained briefly the history of the tobacco, how the planes are grown, and the process of developing the perfect cigar. We watched a video for 10 minutes giving further explanation of the process. After the video, we smelt the different leaves that have a purpose in the cigar, saw the ventilator for cigars, and tasted a popular pastry. Lastly, we saw the hand rollers in the front of the store. We learned a master roller needs to have 10 years of experience and one employee has been rolling for 30 years! It was an awesome experience and enlighten me on cigar history! Stopped by on Saturday 11/29/14. This is a very small shop that has been in Miami for years and years. The ownership changed hands recently as the previous owner wanted to retire. Lazaro, who is the new owner, was extremely nice and helpful. I met His wife as well who speaks perfect English and was very kind. They have 3 rollers and they do everything by hand. The Tobacco is from Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Guatemala. Everyone is from Cuba. This is the kind of place the old timers stop by, roll a few, sit and chat. A real wealth of information with these guys. While it is not on SW 8th where a lot of the other shops are, it is only a few blocks away right on Flagler at the corner of SW 17th Ave. All the cigars here are "heche un mano". If you want to visit a small family operation and get some nice sticks, this is the place to visit. read more
