Bella Vida Hospice was introduced to me and my family to care for my God Father. Jesse Hawk was so patient and walked me through the process with such gentleness during a very fragile time for us. Me and my family are so thankful for Jesse and the entire Bella Vida Hospice staff. When I called with questions their Intake & afterhours team was so patient and informative. They actually called back with updates when they said they would. Their RN case manager, Jasmine, visits were right away and didn't take long. She cared for my God Father and provided him dignity with his care and his end of life wishes. We had a room full of people every visit and she was so informative in a time when we needed that the most. Bella Vida's social worker, Elizabeth, arrived just when my God father passed. It's like she knew we needed her without us having to ask. She helped answer questions about arranging a Veteran's removal for my God Father from the assisted living he was at and guided us in arranging a mortuary buy giving us options in our area. The RN who arrived after our loved one passed came in with such gentleness and gave us time to process his passing. He respected my God Father and his family's wishes and handled all the aftercare so we didn't have to. Hospice staff does end of life care everyday but with Bella Vida it was like we were their only focus. Medical staff come and go, and you forget their names in life but we will always remember who treated your loved one during the hardest time of or life. María Ramos has been a fantastic nurse for bathing my mom. She has made my mom laugh even when she's combative and meets her where she's at. She also has helped guide me as I have my mom in hospice at home and am still learning how to be efficient and monitor her health, safety, and needs. Hello... I'm writing this review to give a shout out to the amazing and caring Maria Ramos! She is the bath aide assigned to my mom and I have only great things to say about Maria and her service. She is thorough and careful while bathing my mother. My mom suffered a severe stroke and is now paralyzed and unable to speak or do anything for herself. Having Maria come in to help us with her bath has been an absolute blessing. She's professional and friendly. I wish that everyone could be like Maria in the care she provides. I should have done this review a while back. I used Haven Health for both of my parents during the last stage of their life. I did not know anything about hospice but the Oncologist who was taking care of my father said that Haven Health was recommended by her patients. They took good care of my parents and I was also part of their care. We saw a chaplain; social worker; a doctor and the nurses would come every day or every other day as needed. You can call their number 24/7 and you will speak with a person, not an automated one. read more

I can't begin to emphasize the excellent care my mother is receiving from Haven Hospice/Bella Vida Hospice. The entire team who attend to my mother on a weekly basis is absolutely fantastic. Her nurse, Jorge Navarro is absolutely the best, he is always looking out for my mother's needs keeping her as comfortable as she can be, providing for her the best care possible. Maria, social worker is always so nice and patient listening to my mothers needs. Tom, one great Chaplin, he makes sure my mother is in touch with her religious side providing answers and comfort. Home care has been extremely helpful. Antoinette Torres comes twice a week to bathe me and home nurse Latisha Burroughs visits once a week or more if necessary. I'm just confused why haven health wrote me a letter and signed it telling me that Mark had only 6 months to live and two years ago he received a liver transplant at Keck Hospitol in LA. If you called adult protective services on me why? If it wasn't for me knowing something is wrong with this picture taking him to doctors appointments caring after he received his transplant it's been 14 years I have been caring for him he's alive not that well due to all the drugs your company gave him and said he was dying in 6 months. I have the letter to prove it it's your company logo on it. I should be calling adult protective Services's on you and filing a law suite! read more

As a clinician with over 12 years of experience in post-acute care and currently serving in a senior healthcare administration role, I approach this complaint with deep concern rather than just disappointment. My experience with Bella Vida was nothing short of alarming, and I feel compelled to share my experiences to prevent other patients and families from enduring similar distress, blatant disrespect, and loss of dignity at the end of their loved one's life. Our family faced an incredibly difficult situation when a loved one suddenly fell ill and was going to be transferred to hospice care. We were told our loved one would be transferred to one facility, then later told she had been transferred to Anaheim Terrace. No one called to report any change in disposition until after the patient was admitted to the above-mentioned 2-star Medicare rated Nursing facility without family approval. To further expand upon the already abysmal communication, we were also provided a "24-hour phone number" we could call for updates. We called the number multiple times with no return call or updates provided. When we found out our loved one was transferred to hospice care, we took the earliest available flight from out of state, only to receive the devastating news that our loved one had passed just before we landed. In our grief, we requested the social worker let the staff know to keep our loved one in place until we could arrive--within 30 minutes from the airport -- to say our final goodbyes. To our shock and dismay, upon arriving at the facility, we were informed that our loved one had been transferred to the funeral home 15 minutes prior to our arrival. Furthermore, since our loved one had transferred to the mortuary who was currently holding a service, we were told we were not going to be able to visit her for a few days. We called the social worker for assistance in finding a funeral home who would be able to accommodate us to say goodbye to our loved one. Her response was dismissive, only offering a list of individuals for us to contact on our own. This blatant disregard for the fundamental principles of end-of-life care and the lack of compassion shown to both the patient and the grieving family is utterly unacceptable. The absence of communication, respect, ownership of mistakes, and empathy displayed by Bella Vida raises serious concerns about the quality of care provided by this company. Additionally, the Date of Birth, marital status, and emergency contact were incorrectly documented on our loved one's medical record at the facility where she was receiving hospice "care". Dare I ask how accurate orders were obtained for the patient without a DOB? How did staff identify the patient for medication administration and patient care - a National Medicare patient safety initiative? How were nurses ensuring accurate medication administration? Was she over-medicated? Was she provided another patients medication? Could this be why our loved one passed less than 12 hours after given a 6 month prognosis from a physician the day prior. We would be remiss to not consider mismanagement of medication in the setting of this blatant documentation error. I should also mention, twice we were sent paperwork to sign during the hospice admission and the paperwork was inaccurate. I strongly urge the administration to reevaluate their training programs, particularly in areas related to empathy and care, patient orders, medication administration, and patient safety initiatives. Before prioritizing another admission over quality care, the staff should receive comprehensive training to ensure that such grave errors in communication and care are never, ever repeated. I should not have to remind a hospice company of a Hospice patient rights, which include but are not limited to the right to be treated with respect and receive quality end-of-life care, and be free from neglect. I sincerely hope that this review serves as a catalyst for much-needed change amongst this organization before depriving another patient of their dignity of life. read more

There aren't enough words of gratitude I can express to Haven, for the compassion, and care that was provided to my Mother. Hospice care is a personal experience. It takes more than just knowledge; it takes HEART. The team who was in charge of my Mother's care was amazing. I must acknowledge 3 individuals in particular who made this devastating season of our lives so much easier. Maureen was my Mom's RN Case Manager. From day one her passion, care, respect and knowledge shined. Entering Hospice was devastating to our family. Especially my Mom, knowing the outcome and what the progression of her disease would ultimately lead to. Maureen always provided her comfort and hope. Maureen grew to know my Mom so well and was always proactive when it came to her care. Some days my mom would not want to see anyone. But she would see Maureen. She would smile with Maureen and she felt safe with Maureen. I will forever be grateful. She is truly an angel. I also would like to mention Jennifer, who was my mom's social worker. Amazing, lovely, caring, so helpful and compassionate. She went out of her way to assist, explain and help us with whatever we needed. Lastly I'd like to mention, Tom. Tom was the chaplain who visited my Mom. Not only did Tom provide prayer, hope and comfort to my Mom, but to me as well. Such a lovely man with a huge heart and comforting presence. I lost my Mom 3 months ago. Have remained in contact with Maureen. She has guided me with bereavement services and has been an absolute comfort. It has been a little over a year since my mom's passing. She was home under hospice care for about a month. The nurses that came throughout that time, were exceptionally caring and supportive. I cannot thank them enough for what they did for my mom. Along with my aunt from Mexico, who's a registered nurse, my mom had the best care I could ever imagine. I cannot say enough about Haven. My family started a hospice care about a year ago for my grandmother. All of staff are very caring and do everything they can do to make this journey as easy and comforting as possible but the best part is my grandmother's nurse Tiffany. She is the best hospice nurse out there. She is the most lovable and caring person. Tiffany is kind and gentle and she really knows what she's doing. She offers helpful advice and suggestions. She is comforting and has the biggest heart to embrace her patients. Whoever has her as an assigned nurse will be very lucky. Hospice care made everything is easy for the whole family, and it is greatly comforting to know we are not going thru this alone. I am glad that this hospice organization exists and it was very easy to get signed up with them to receive services. My family put my grandmother on hospice with Haven Health for the last days of her life. Haven health was very helpful with getting everything we needed including medical supplies, medical devices, a bed, medications, etc. My biggest issues with this company: 1. The bathing nurse was EXTREMELY pushy, rude, and went through cabinets in my house as if she owned the place! The bathing nurse showed up with zero supplies. I'd expect a hospice organization to send nurses out that have their own supplies! She came to the house and began barking orders at me that she needed towels (of all different sizes), soap, body wash, etc. We didn't have many towels available, being that this was my grandmother's house and she only had a few sets of towels. I gave her what we had and told her this was all we had available. Same with the soaps. I gave her what was available in the house. My grandmother didn't use body washes and have lots of body care products. She used the same soap for years on end. Then, the nurse was asking for a basin for water. There was no basin in the house! All I could find was pots and a bucket. Then, she started walking all through the house opening cabinets looking for supplies! OMG! I never gave her permission to go into other areas of the house! I just told her this is what we have! WHY would Haven Health send a bathing nurse out to someone's house and then cause all this unnecessary stress over trying to find supplies in the house?! WHY didn't this nurse have supplies????? 2. Hospice nurse Nancy was the most rude and annoying nurse I've ever dealt with! As an RN, MSN, I DO NOT need an LVN talking down to me as if I'm stupid and telling me incorrect statements about medications! Nancy was literally standing in the room where my grandmother was dying and telling me to give this medication and give that medication and then proceeded to tell me completely incorrect statements about the medications! WOW! Nancy also came into our home without supplies! Asking me for a blood pressure cuff, asking me for more sheets for the bed, asking me for a blanket, asking me for bandage tape. OMG, seriously?! How does a hospice nurse not have a BP cuff? Again, this was my grandmother's house where she only had one set of sheets because that's all she needed! She did not have extras or excess anything in her house! I REPEATEDLY told Nancy that there were no extra sheets or blankets. She insisted that she needed another sheet and/or blanket. I was practically in an argument with this rude nurse over something so stupid as a sheet/blanket for the bed. I told her there's nothing here and I'm not going to get her one! There are no extra sheets/blankets in this house!!!!!! If the need for a sheet/blanket is such a big deal, why don't these nurse's have basic supplies with them? Again, causing unneeded stress over something so menial. Then, when my grandmother did pass away, Nancy was sent out to pronounce her. She saw the medical supplies in the room and then wanted to take all of our medical supplies! We had purchased most of the supplies with our own money and Nancy was trying to STEAL our supplies while my grandmother's dead body was still in the hospice bed! UNREAL! We had to tell her NO & that we would take care of it later! 3. On the day that my grandmother did pass away, we were informed via phone call from the case manager that they would be sending a nurse out to the house for continuous care until she passed. We got the news that she did pass away later that night and then we found out that they never did send out a nurse to monitor her and provide comfort care while she was in her last hours of life! My family felt completely lied to over this incident! We had a caregiver present and the caregiver was there the entire time. The caregiver verified that there was no nurse present during the last hours. The caregiver was the one who had to contact Haven Health to notify them that the patient had passed away. This is something that will bother everyone in our family until we go to the grave ourselves. 4. After she passed away, we obviously wanted the equipment removed from the house. We had to wait days for someone to come out and remove the equipment and the bed. So here we had a bed in the house that my grandmother had died in for days after just waiting for it to be removed. This was very disturbing and the bed itself stunk up the whole house with the plastic mattress cover. There was no reason the bed couldn't have been removed within 48 hours after she had passed away. Again, I'm glad that this company exists and it was very easy to get services started, however the nurses sent out to the house were extremely rude and caused nothing but unneeded stress over petty things. Nancy even tried to STEAL medical supplies from us that we had bought and payed for with our own money! Just UNREAL! read more

I just want to say that Haven Health is the most amazing company that you could ever ask for if your loved one needs help. From the moment the hospital put my mother on hospice and the first phone call from Roxanna, our world changed. Roxanna was at our doorstep within 2 hours, walking us through step by step of what we could expect from not only their company and staff but also through the hospice life. Trust me, we had questions but they were there for us 24/7 and not only did they respond to our call in need, they did it with respect and care. A few of the nurses even shed tears with us. My mother's disease was sudden and her time was short (6 weeks from diagnosis to death) but they helped us make every minute count of the time we had with her. Roxanna and her team of nurses, doctors, counselors, and therapist will never truly understand what they did for us and continue to do for us even after her passing. Thank you so much! read more

Making the decision to put a loved one in hospice care is one of the hardest things you can go through. Your mind can be going a mile a minute and can also go numb to the types of decisions you have to make. I am happy with my choice in Haven Health. I am SO GRATEFUL they made things so organized and streamlined. I work in healthcare and have previously worked in hospitality. Customer service is #1 for me and makes or breaks any experience. Everyone I worked with to coordinate my mother's care--from the people I spoke with on the phone to the nurses that came to do home visits were always very kind, thorough and thoughtful with their words and approach to care. I especially am so thankful to Maureen--she laid out everything so clearly and was so supportive AND available throughout the whole process. My mom was very cautious of others and she told me she was very happy and relieved that Maureen was going to be her nurse. Dr. Nicholas Jauregui is the most caring Dr. we have ever met. This company has a lot to offer that a lot of other companies do not. I have a son in their care. My son has a very rare syndrome which needs constant attention and tweaking of health care treatment plans. I can't say enough about this company and how their compassion comes through to their patients and the household of caregivers that attend to all their needs. I will have to very respectfully disagree with the experience posted before me. I have been working with Haven Health since they were a tiny company and now they have in my opinion become on of the strongest companies in the hospice and home health space. I oversee operations and care for over 20 senior care homes in Mission Viejo and I can not begin to tell everyone how special the staff of Haven is. From the back office to the nursing that are pounding the pavement ever single day they do an amazing job. Fess, Bre, Rebecca, Lindsey, and all the other staff we have see over the years have it ingrained as their company culture to go above and beyond to make sure the residents as well as their families are supported no matter where in the care spectrum the patient is. From Home Health to Hospice I have first handedly seen countless families helped and benefit from the services they provide. They are responsive and pretty technology savvy so getting ahold of a nurse normally doesn't take more than a couple minutes. Most of the nurses we work with are more than happy to furnish their cell phone numbers to be more available and responsive, it truly makes them feel like there work solely for our patients. Not only that but when serving my own grandma our family, with over 35 years of experience in the senior care field chose Haven to address her needs and even as providers who work with almost every service under the sun, couldn't be happier with the care they provided her in her last moments. I would happily recommend Haven Health to any family needing Home Health, Hospice, or Palliative services because in my opinion they are one of the best organization in the field and continue to deliver quality and results. My sister was under the care of Haven for two months upon being discharged from the hospital. I was her primary caregiver throughout her final journey and I can't say enough about the level of care and professionalism they extended to us during this most difficult time right up to the end. When the doctor recommended Haven, I looked to Yelp reviews for some input in making this huge decision. I admit that I was concerned about some of the negative reviews and indicated this when I contacted them. They met with me to discuss my concerns and I left feeling comfortable with the decision to proceed. Experience later confirmed that it was in fact the right decision. I've been through a hospice experience twice over the last 14 years and I can honestly say that you should consider Haven if placed in this difficult situation. They are a wonderful team who took excellent care of my sister and gave me the assistance I needed. It's been almost two weeks since my sister passed. While I don't miss the experience itself, I do miss seeing the friends we made in the process. Thank you staff at Haven. You do great work and it is very much appreciated. read more

Sadly the owner is trying to deflect any blame of the situation. You declined my grandfather of care. I had taken over care of him in October. I had to leave on business for one month and he was left in the care of my mother, but the entire time I still called constantly for you to take care of issues... health issues that were a concern. And when I returned home they still werent taken care of. Please let the public know how many times I've called about you managing his medication that you still never got to and it's January right now. Please also let them know how many times I've called about the bloodwork that I ordered that took you 3 months to get to? I could not get him to the doctor because he is bed ridden and that's where your company is supposed to give assistance to help me to care for him for the things I can not take care of such as his health care needs and physical therapy. Please take responsibility and I do have proof. Phone records of the times I've called your number to request assistance as well as the messages to your nurses as well as the physical therapist about what happened. Please let me know how I've neglected my grandfather in the time that I've had him. You can't. Don't worry I'll be taking this further and reporting you to the better business bureau and seek other aid in getting to the bottom of why you are still in business. It's not because you are a good facility. Also I've seen other complaints here in Yelp and your replies are your resistance to take responsibility for your actions on several other occasions with previous clients. My mother was hospitalized in ICU and didn't have long to live. Her last wish was to be home (after having been in and out of Memorial Hospital for over a month), when she passes away. When we inquired about hospice care, Memorial directed us to Haven who was the hospital's preferred partner in hospice situation. When we were first put in contact with the liaison for Haven, Michelle, she was super prompt and courteous. She took the time to answer all of our questions and made us feel like we could depend on Haven. Not knowing much about hospice care, and not having the time to "shop" around, we decided to go with Haven. It all went downhill from there. When we told Michelle we were going to go through with the hospice care, she showed up amazingly fast to help assess the situation. She told us if we wanted, she could arrange to have everything ready for my mom that evening so my mom won't have to wait another day to come home. That day, we prepped everything for Haven to come and set up their equipments. By the time evening rolled around, we were told they were unable to get my mom home that night because they couldn't get the equipments there. Strike one. The next morning, the equipments finally showed up and my mom was due to come home at around afternoon time. When the ambulance came to drop off my mom with staff from Memorial supervising, the nurse from Memorial advised us we did not have the correct breathing machine on-site. My mom needs help breathing from a machine that needs to be really strong. Haven did not deliver that machine, and without it, my mom would die within minutes. We contacted Haven and told them they need to send someone over ASAP with that machine because we can't hold up Memorial's staff. If they had to wait too long, we would have to send my mom back to the hospital. It took Haven over an hour, and with a lot of patience from the Memorial staff, the machine was finally delivered with a respiratory therapist who was also incompetent (more later). Strike two. When my mom was finally situated at home and comfortable, Haven's supervising RN asked us if we had any of my mom's medicine. We said we can go get it from our local pharmacy. Haven suggested they will go through their pharmacy. The RN left, promising to return within the next few hours, but definitely before evening with the much needed heart medication. She did not show up. We called Haven over and over and no one could send us the medicine. They said we would have to wait til tomorrow morning. WTF? We could have gotten the medicine already if we went through our local pharmacy. The next morning rolls around, my mom's medication was still not brought to us. They finally came the evening of the next day, an entire day after they promised to bring us her medication. Strike three. Keep in mind, through all of this, we tried to contact Michelle, the Haven rep from Memorial. She told us before we decided to go with hospice that she would be there to help us with any concerns. She picked up her phone the first time, but refuse to pick up or return any of our calls following the initial concern. We ARE NOT terrible people. We had legitimate concerns and did not express any anger, but confusion about why things were so rocky. She completely ignored us and made us realize her initial compassion and kindness was nothing more than a sales tactic. This both saddens and angers me. Anyways, after a day or two, my mom needed her breathing therapy so we needed to take off her breathing mask temporarily. Before we had a chance to, the breathing hose from the machine to the mask broke off without any of us realizing for a few seconds. Now keep in mind a few seconds of unaided breathing could be very dangerous for my mom. For the life of us we couldn't get the hose back on the mask. Imagine the craziness that ensued as seconds was ticking. We were finally able to jam the hose in and realize this is what Haven's respiratory therapist did as well. Their "expert" brought a machine with a hose size that was incompatible with the mask my mom was using from Memorial. He didn't say anything, didn't make any effort to find a compatible mask, and instead he jammed the hose into the mask creating a connection that eventually fell apart. What a f-cken moron. When we called him, he told us too bad, he can't come and we would have to wait until the next day. Ugh. Strike four. As I said, the whole experience was needless stress upon an already stressful situation. All of the nurses that Haven sent us were LVN fresh out of school, whereas Michelle, the Haven rep from Memorial, told us their nurses were really experienced. We later realize from the business card that Michelle gave us, she was an LVN herself. In other words, she probably wasn't qualified to say most of the things she said to us. Really disappointing. And to top it off, Haven billed Medicare for over $22,000 for 3.5 days of hospice care. Yeah..... read more

Kind of weird to write a review about hospice care but these are the kinds of times that need reviews most of all since its such a fragile time. The nurses are helpful and came to the home often. Haven Health not only has exceeded my expectations but has made this difficult journey a more comforting one. They took care of my sick grandmother who was terminally ill. From the first day we met with them, they made us feel at ease and explained everything thoroughly. Their communication skills were excellent as they were constantly informing us of my grandmothers status and everything else we needed to know. The nurses took care of my grandmother as if she were their own. They were very gentle, very kind, very caring and very understanding. They went above and beyond to make sure the last months of her life were the best she had ever had. Thank you Haven Health. I wish I didn't have to give them the credit of even one star. I don't like to give bad helps either but this is about healthcare and I feel that I owe it to folks out there who are dependent on in home nursing services and in many cases are vulnerable at at the mercy of the agency that they may have or may not have had a choice in getting to choose. This is truly the worst customer service ever. I was lied to and instead of taking responsibility for a mistake they preferred to blame instead of just dealing with and fixing the immediate problem at hand. I had strict wound care instructions and was not to leave the hospital until adequate wound care services were set up. I had suffered from MRSA from a prior surgery so this was of extreme importance. I get a call to say they have everything set up for service and the day I am supposed to receive service I get another call trying to set up service for the next day. Because of the wound this was unacceptable. The case manager further implies that a 1 inch little line down my back just required a small dry dressing. That by the way is without seeing me and I'm sure without review of my chart. I have a nine inch wound that is saturating thickly packed dressings more than twice per day. When I received her call my dressing had already started to smell and my bedding and clothing were saturated. Then I'm told that I shouldn't worry about MRSA as I have oral antibiotics. Again lets just get to the fact that care is required, take some responsibility for dropping the ball and let's move on. Instead I'm told that the hospital discharge planner didn't do their job and I'd get a call back in a little bit. I'm tired and in pain and after getting a friend to go and get supplies and change my dressing I get a call at almost 9pm waking me up to set up my care just like nothing had happened. I am beyond disgust and advise anyone requiring any kind of decent care and an agency who is patient oriented to look elsewhere. read more

My daughter was sent home from LB Memorial hospital with orders for physical therapy. It was Thursday afternoon. Friday we were contacted by a nurse. We didn't get any helpful advise only that a PT would contact us. It is Saturday evening and no phone call. My daughter cannot stand on either leg. She's unable to get to a toilet and needs to be shown how to use crutches without bearing any weight. I finally called and was told, "Sorry, no help on weekends, someone will contact you by noon on Monday.". Very disappointing that she is having a painful and slow recovery without the support that was requested. read more

I have never written a review before, but I thought it is important for people who are going though the emotional experience of having a sick loved one to know about Haven Health. I don't know what my family and I would of done without the Angels from Haven Health. I can't tell what a relief it is to know they were only a phone call away 24/7 and would visit my mom anytime day or night if needed. Haven made it possible to keep my mom comfortable at home and not have to go to the hospital. They have the most friendly compassionate, caring, knowledgeable doctors, nurses, social workers and spiritual support. I will forever be thankful for the kindness and professionalism they have shown to my mother and my family in her last days. I cannot say enough good things about them and they will forever be in my prayers. read more
