I just moved to west of Andover, and butchere-wise, I've been to BB and Eva's. I was looking for Beef back ribs to smoke and grill. No one knew what I was looking for, asking if spareribs were the same as back ribs. Except Haverhill Beef, they were straight forward and understood exactly what I was looking for. The only thing was the beef back ribs they had were frozen. Ok, my smoking was a 6-8 hour job so what was overnight to defrost. Bought 7# to test drive the ribs and also my new smoker. These were the very very best I've ever bought or cooked! They have a full array of marinated steak tips and different cuts of chicken, which I will be back for. They also have a number of made-in-house sausages, which I will definitely back for. I held back 1-star due to parking, which is near impossible on the street. They do have a public lot a half block behind them. read more

The only butcher shop in the area to go to! I am not sure why people go to Butcher Boy in North Andover when this gem is only a few miles further down the street. Its a geniune butcher shop that knows their meats and cuts (I had one guy at Butcher Boy tell me once that spare ribs and baby backs are the same...so why didn't I want baby backs when I asked for spares? I laughed at him and walked out the door and went to Haverhill Beef.). During my last visit here, I bought about $100 worth of meat for a party, and it was worth every penny. With all the marinade's to choose from, I asked what they recommended, and they were right on. I bought some Pubhouse and Garlic & Herb Chicken (A++++!), some teriyaki, original, and aunt (someone...I can't remember the name) steak tips. All of them were beyond delicious. The original style tips melted in my mouth, and you could literally cut them with just a fork. If filet mignon ever wanted to moonlight as a steak tip, it would be the original tips from HB. Whenever I go there, I always buy a roll of fresh uncooked keilbasa for roughly $4 and toss it either in the smoker or grill. All their sausage are made in house, and it really shows. If you have only had a Hillshire Farm keilbasa in your life, do yourself a favor and go to HB and buy a fresh one (or two). You will never eat pre-cooked again. I have also bought full briskets from them, and they were exactly what I needed to throw in the smoker. The ribs as well are perfect. They are all trimmed and cut, and ready to be smoked or grilled. I cannot say enough good things about HB. Go there and talk to them and try them out, and you will never go elsewhere again. They are always willing to help out if you have questions about marinades or meats, and really a gem in Haverhill. read more

Noone beats their marinated Chicken Breast. The Pubhouse is the king. Center cut Pork chops are perfect not small at all. The smoke house is the best for those. Tryed to Pork Roast too. I completely agree with Don W -- while the meats they have are good quality, it's about what you'd except from a shop such as this. The marinated stuff, however, is really the winner here. The seasonings are just right, and everything, even the chicken, is marinated well enough that it comes out tasting perfectly every time (unless, of course, you happen to accidentally knock over the grill, but that was only one time and Haverhill Beef Co can't really be held responsible for the fact that I'm a walking disaster, can they? There has not been one time I've been disappointed with the Haverhill Beef Co. I get all of my meat here for the same price I'd pay at the grocery store. I love that I can request certain cuts of meat and that they double check whether the size or thickness of each piece is what I want before cutting the whole thing. And if they don't have what you want, they will order it for you. They have SO many kinds of wings, it makes my mouth water. And if you're short on time, you can call ahead so that our order is ready when you arrive. Not only do they have all kinds of meat, but they also have wine, beer, fresh breads and produce, soup, sandwich cheese, etc. The staff is always friendly and curious about what you're making if you get something very specific. My only regret is not knowing about Haverhill Beef sooner! The meat is amazing, and the homemade soups are also incredible. I got their Lobster Bisque and a T-bone to welcome my husband home, and we raved through the entire meal. It's also nice that they have wine on premises, so you can pick up a good bottle to go with your steak, pork, or chicken. I started coming here a lot when MB was closed, and I only wish I had found this place a lot sooner. The meats and wings are excellent, and the prices are inexpensive. They also have the absolute best cranberry nut chicken salad, not even Butcher Boy makes it like Haverhill Beef. Obviously the former reviews were written by friends of the owner because this place is nothing special. I walked in no one in the place . Photos showed large prime steaks none we available only some half inch steaks that you would find at market basket. No big cowboy rib eyes. So I said what the heck I will try the steak tips that were highly reviewed . What a disappointment first of all $1 more a pound than butcher boy which is the best but they were awful. For the highest quality meats in all of Haverhill, this is the place to go. Good food has always been expensive, these prices are very fair especially for exquisite quality. We have extensive experience with most of the marinated beef and chicken offerings. Regular steaks and chicken are excellent along with the freshly ground beef, we recommend thier best ground beef, very low in fat and the taste in noticably better than everywhere else. We also recommend the meat packages for added value. Pub House marinade is excellent and a family favorite in chicken or steak tip varietys. A word on steak tips. No matter which variety (we love original and pub house) they are more like filet mignon tips than traditional steak tips. Hard to believe the consistency over the years but these tips are always a crowd pleaser. Note, they also will make you a mean sandwich to order. Lunch is very reasonable with a roll up or sub with included chips. A very filling sandwich stuffed with the very best made to order ingredients. Most people don't seem to know about the sandwich secret, give it a try next time your in. Definitely worth the trip from anywhere. read more

I am not sure why this place (HB) receives as much positive hype as it does. THIS is an open honest review from an actual consumer. This past Saturday my husband and I went in on a whim to grab some steak tips for dinner. First I would like to say though the employees are nice and courteous and it looked decently clean inside. Ordered 1 pound of teriyaki steak tips and a pound and half of the house steak tips, 46 dollars later-keeping my hopes that the quality would reflect this price point. We decided to cook up the Teriyaki and sad to say the quality was BELOW sub -par. Not very edible at all. The meat was tough, fatty and extremely hard to chew-boy did my jaw get a work out! As far as the flavor it was decent amount, could it have had more of kick of the teriyaki flavoring but overall the flavor was okay, BUTthe QUALITY is awful. OK so I chummed it up to maybe got a bad batch??? Perhaps? WELL NO the house tip quality was just as bad if NOT WORSE. I don't understand how customers can rate this place beyond 2 stars? I am baffled-I guess the positive reviewers simply have not experienced quality meat! read more

I really cannot believe this place has not been reviewed more. This is probably the best butcher shop that I have been to in New England. No vac-packed meats that you can't inspect here, everything is in the open as it should be in a butcher shop. I usually prefer to marinate my own meat but their marinated products are wonderful. The steak tips were probably the best I have ever had, they were probably as tender as a filet. The ground beef is wonderfu,l as is the applewood-smoked bacon. They do not keep all cuts in the display case, you can call ahead and get custom cuts if you like, they do almost anything--even grind meat for you. Old school service, knowledge and courtesy are what you can expect from the staff. The only thing I wished they carried are bone-in chicken breasts. Seriously, if you live in this area and you have not tried Haverhill Beef--get yourself down there, you will not regret it. read more

Absolutely in love with this place. Their deli is reasonably priced and stocks Cooper cheese (far and away the best cheeseburger and grilled cheese sandwich cheese in existence). There are a ton of choices for marinated tips, chicken breasts, sausages, steaks.. you name it... and their homemade salads are delicious (particularly the buffalo chicken salad). It's the only place I go when I'm grilling out. The staff is incredibly helpful and helps to make the experience of shopping here a real joy. I come here for the holidays when I'm cooking the main course and it's always prime meat. I either get the bone in lamb or prime rib and both are delicious. You don't really need any spices except for salt and pepper and the meat is always tender and moist. The staff is very helpful, they will offer the best way to cook each cut of meat for the best taste. I also get the stuffed mushrooms and giant meatballs with the holiday meats. I order online the day before and it's always ready for me when I get there. The marinated tips are also great. I love the breads they have at the checkout counter but they don't have many so by the end of the day it's all gone. The wine selection is small but very good. Definitely a hidden gem, not as upscale as butcher boy but what it lacks in style it makes up for in service and quality. read more

Haverhill Beef is a gem in downtown Haverhill. I will never ever eat another ribeye from Market Basket ever again since I can spend a few dollars more and get the best ribeye around. Its a world of difference !!! The service is fantastic, if you tell them what you want/need they will make suggestions on the best price, and/or best cuts. The marinated meats are fantastic. I highly recommend the Aunt Jean or Aunt Somebody. It's fantastic. The prices are great, chicken wings are a fantastic deal and huge !! They look more like marinated chicken legs. The sausage is really good too. But the beef is super excellent. I get the Intro to Excellent meat package for all my holiday gatherings and its always a huge hit. read more
