I frequent the thrift store next door and finally stopped in to Haverhill Butcher's last night while I was in town, and was very glad I did and mad I hadn't sooner. Everyone I dealt with was super friendly and knowledgeable about their products. I purchased terrayaki chicken breasts and sirloin tips and they were both wonderful and very reasonably priced for a butcher shop. Another added bonus for me was the meat bones in the freezer, which my dog thoroughly enjoyed. AND they also stock frozen Tripoli slices in their freezer as well. I will definitely be returning whenever I'm in the area. read more

I've been going to Haverhill beef for years the staff behind the counter is excellent. The girl at checkout is another story she is like the coupon police. My daughter and I went there both of us had orders well over 100.00 dollars. which isn't uncommon for us there. I paid for mine with a paper coupon. My daughter who had the bigger order used her phone app. She refused it with an attitude ( we only take paper) Whatever.... we left not the first time with the cashiers there. Always something. The Chicken is always good the steaks at times can be disappointing. Plenty of butchers offering incentives! Going to move on. Mostly due to check out! They should do themselves a favor and send her on her way......... read more

I was very impressed with this butcher shop. I went here because I tried three other places, and they did not carry USDA prime beef. Haverhill Beef Co has the real deal. If you've ever wondered why when you cook a steak on the grill it doesn't come out good, it's probably because you aren't buying well-marbled meat. Fat striations (marbling) which run through the muscle, lubricate the meat while it cooks keeping it moist, while also adding flavor. These guys stock the kind of highly marbled meat that people go out of their way to order online and get shipped to their house. And believe it or not, the prices are totally reasonable. At market basket I pay $11.99/lb for USDA choice boneless rib eye. Here, they sell the much higher quality USDA prime variant for only $13.99/lb. Believe me, you will absolutely notice the difference in how tender the meat is. I was amazed when I stuck my thermometer probe in to check the temperature while cooking, the probe just slid in like butter. The owner, Peter, was very friendly and knowledgeable. I explained to him what I was looking for and he went out of his way to help me out. He even gave me some advice on smoking briskets and gave me a decent sized free sample of their sirloin tips. You'll be a happy person the day you stop paying money for average quality beef that comes out lousy 50% of the time and start buying the real deal. read more

This is by far the best place to buy meats and prepared foods in the area. The quality is fantastic and the prices are comparable to other butcher shops. Sure, you can save a few bucks buying steak tips at market basket, but the quality isn't even close to what HBC offers. This place is worth every penny. And the sausages (made in the store) are amazing. I've always found the staff to be extremely helpful and accommodating, especially when you ask for advice or want to have something custom cut. I just learned that they recently started making sandwiches to order, and they are almost too big. I highly recommend this place. read more

Their steaks are ok, VERY pricey, and so you expect service at the counter, always a challenge for these guys, but they're far more dedicated to their new sandwich business now. Even before they started to make sandwiches, I've waited so long the past couple of times, I had to leave. I could not possibly be the only one. And so we go to stop and shop. Today, went in there and waited at the beef counter for over 15 minutes for service. Asked the register woman, she shrugged and said nothing, she may be mute, or just not care. My friend bought ice cream and we left. They've always had slow service, but when they'll ignore a request for 4 Porterhouse at 12.99/lb and a slab of NY Sirloin at 10./lb so they can keep pounding out the sandwiches, I can only suggest they change their name to Haverhill Sandwich and Ice Cream because they certainly do not sell beef. A complete waste of time, make sure you block out an hour if you go there. When a business runs their core into the ground and makes a phony left turn searching for income, they aren't long for the world. Shame. Sent them an email of complaint, they sent back an auto-reply saying to call. As if they'd answer the phone. read more
