Got the veggie and tofu plate lunch. Half way through eating I took photo.

Food good, veggie option is nice plus tofu. Good option for the veggie forward eaters. Next time I'd get without rice and Mac salad because I don't eat that but I sampled it and they were very good . Glad this place was in the mall since not a lot of veggie only meals there.

It's my first time in Hawaii and both my s/o and I have never had musubi before he's also never had spam in general so I wanted him to try it. He hates seaweed but he quite enjoyed this. We both did. It was really good. This was all we ordered though but I would definitely order it again.

Always order from here. Portions are always good. Prices are awesome. Food I've ordered always tastes great and fresh.

    Chicken Katsu Curry Plate

Super stoked with this order. The serving amount was perfect for the prize I paid. The chicken was cooked to perfection. There was enough curry gravy on the katsu, not too much where it becomes soggy. The mac salad could have better though. Overall, PRETTY FRICKEN BOMB!

Teriyaki beef, kalbi ribs, bbq chicken, 2 scoops rice, and Mac salad. Enough for at least 2 meals.

Typical food court in a mall establishment where you place your order at the counter, pay the bill, and have a seat at one of their tables until they bring your food to you. Typical except for one thing: the food was REALLY good and plentiful. I had the orange chicken plate. It comes with a huge side of delicious chow mein. The orange chicken was covered in a perfect sauce. I liked this Orange Chicken way more than Panda Express. My wife's mixed plate came with teriyaki beef, kalbi ribs, and bbq chicken, plus 2 scoops of rice and a very tasty mac salad side. I almost never brag about how good a food court place is, but I REALLY encourage you to try Hawaii BBQ Deli in the Prince Kuhio Plaza mall a couple stores down from Zippy's. Disclaimer: I am not related to this establishment in any way.

We got some items here for lunch to go. We liked the BBQ items, especially the bento (rice, fish, spam, chicken and beef). Great value for the money and very fast. It is located inside the mall.

The have the best chinese food. It was made fresh, cooked to order. We ordered the Chow Mein without vegetables, it was still flavorful. The Kung Pao Chicken was well seasoned and the sauce had a nice kick to it without being overly spicy. The Orange Chicken was good and not too sweet. The Mongolian Beef was the best we had on this island. The day before I had the tofu with vegetables which was also very good but I forgot to take a picture. We also got a side of Gau Gee, one of the pieces is pictured with the Mongolian Beef. This will be our go to place for Chinese food.

Full smelly trash bag next to register

Came in June 9th at 2:10pm to get RIPPED OFF! Lunch menu clearly states item+ rice AND green or macaroni salad. I chose to upgrade my rice to fried for $2 more then I asked for a green salad as my salad choice. She told me NO. She said if I pay extra to get fried rice she keeps my salad!?!? Even though the menu says nothing about having to give her your salad. I told her that was not OK, I paid for salad and I needed it to balance my diet as diabetic. She did not care. She would not give her name. She said there was no manager at all. While waiting for someone to come out of the back to discuss this I noticed how filthy this place was. Full, smelly bad of trash by register, many areas and nooks not mopped whatsoever in a long time. When I said I would be calling health delt I was given a tiny container, just big enough for the few slices of Cucumber inside. This is NOT a salad. This place had terrible tasting food after all of that. I'll never be back and I'll avoid your kona location because this business doesn't seem to care about ethics, cleanliness or their potential long term customers at all. Also, this is NOT a deli and NOT a BBQ!

Mochiko chicken plate with two scoops of white rice and Mac salad.
    A R.

We took a chance and didn't regret it. The portions are big and will definitely get you full. We ordered the mochiko chicken and garlic chicken plate we choose two scoops of white rice and Mac salad. Both of the plates are flavorful and do not need any additional sauces aside from sriracha if you prefer. I would come here again. Although, I would advise to ask if any of the plates or dishes are spicy, since the menu doesn't state the dish/plate are spicy. The garlic chicken plate doesn't mention any spicy levels but came mildly spicy it was delicious. The mochiko chicken isn't served spicy.

Located inside a…read moreseemingly deserted food court inside a strip mall, Hawaiian Shrimp Company is well hidden. Unless you're actively looking for it, you probably won't stumble upon it randomly. Between the two of us, we shared a single plate with garlic shrimp and lilikoi shrimp and three sides -- two scoops of taro potatoes (extra charge for having a duplicate side) and some broccoli. For close to $30, the shrimp plate feels expensive, but you actually get quite a bit of food -- definitely enough for two to comfortably share. Between the two types of shrimp (a plate comes with four of each), I liked the garlic shrimp a bit more. I loved how intense the garlic flavor was in the shrimp. In the past when I've had garlic shrimp in Hawaii, it's always been drown in a pool of butter, resulting in an oily coat around your mouth after each bite. The shrimp here uses a fraction of the butter and oil used elsewhere, leaving a much cleaner taste after each bite. With the lilikoi shrimp, my first bite reminded me walnut shrimp: there was a subtle sweetness to the shrimp. Unlike the garlic shrimp, the lilikoi shrimp are butterflied, making it easy to distinguish between which shrimp is what flavor. The fact that the shrimp can even be butterflied means the shrimp used here are quite large in size, indicative of the value you're getting with your plate. With the sides, the broccoli is well-seasoned, and the taro potatoes have nice large chunks mixed in. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with my meal at Hawaiian Shrimp Company. I understand some folks would be quick to write-off a restaurant as understated as this one, but definitely give it a try if you're looking for some good tasting garlic shrimp.

'Cause I grew-up with li hing mui and arare. There's a small number of locally-owned crack seed shops on the Big Island of Hawai'i and in Hawai'i in general. This is one of them, the "local-style candy store" for an island boy like me. I enter 5-Spice, located in East Hawai'i after the intersection of Kilauea Ave and W Puainako St, heading south. I remember frequenting this business when it used to be at Puainako Town Center. Their popularity over the years gave them the ability to move to a larger space. Cracked seed goodness on one side, bagged candies and sweets on the other. I've seen this all before yet, I stand still with the desire to place it all in my hands. And I sure do, my hands are full. The worker was nice about it, but because they don't have a website, how were we supposed to know? We also usually try to make reservations ahead of time, but because there was no website, we figure it's a first come, first serve kind of spot. That's our bad for making that assumption, but now that I'm reading other Yelp reviews, this seems to be a years-old customer service issue. But it makes sense, since exclusivity seems to be part of the business plan (i.e. small/limited seating, reservations only). Must be working for them. Didn't work out for us though, at least in the moment. So even though we didn't try the food (I'm sure it's likely amazing), it sucked to make the drive out here. Pro tip: call first --months ahead before you plan to go here and make a reservation! After just reading some of the reviews, I learned you can do take out but must order ahead of time. Not sure how much more ahead of time. So calling would also be a good idea here. Honestly, the amount of work to just get info, a reservation, and ultimately a meal here is starting to feel cumbersome. I'm not sure I'd want to try making the effort again. We did turn a lemon situation into lemonade and instead had dinner at Ken's House of Pancakes, and they never disappoint! Had we eaten at Takenoko, we would've missed out on Ken's oxtail stew, which was listed as part of the day's special menu items, and it was one of the best meals we've had in Hilo. So, it all worked out.
