This place is a gem! We came on a friday around noon and the wait was about 15-20 mins and we're seated faster than that. The staff were all so very nice and hospitable. The menu was filled with so many choices of sweet and savory. My husband and I chose to share the "Mok a Saurus" because their portion sizes are generous! We were so delighted we found this gem for lunch in Hilo after stopping by the Hilo market. This restaurant is located at the end of a strip mall along with other small businesses. We were greeted by a friendly staff and readily seated in a nice booth. The place is clean, busy, and had a steady stream of customers. Our server was friendly and gave us a genuine and warm aloha welcome, and once seated, left us with enough time to look over their thick menu. We ordered "bigger than your head" pancake with generous strips of bacon, mouth watering loco moco with perfectly cooked sunny side up eggs, and a ginormous portion of mento bento! The food portions are huge, so be aware when ordering. If you get one of the bowls, expect a very generous serving of rice. Unfortunately, the bad service completely overshadowed the meal. While we were trying to put our name down, Rachel, the hostess, shouted that only one person needed to go in to put their name on the waitlist and told guests to get out of the way. The tone felt unnecessarily hostile from the start. We put our name down on the waitlist and, because we were told the wait would be 25-35 minutes, we spent some time walking around nearby while waiting. We understood the restaurant was busy and remained patient. We ultimately waited about 1 hour and 20 minutes, far longer than the quoted wait time. Throughout the process, Rachel continued to give attitude. For example, when we checked in and explained that the rest of our party was coming (still from the parking spot), she pointed at the ground and said, "Let me know when your party is right here." I understand restaurants can be understaffed and that hospitality jobs can be stressful. However, customers should not be on the receiving end of that frustration. Many people dining here are on vacation and simply trying to enjoy their time. The hostess is the first impression guests have of a restaurant, and unfortunately Rachel's attitude significantly impacted our experience. I genuinely hope things get better for Rachel, but her behavior ruined what could have been an enjoyable dining experience. read more
