Mok-A-Sauras and Hawaiian Sweet Bread French Toast
    Briana C.

This place is a gem! We came on a friday around noon and the wait was about 15-20 mins and we're seated faster than that. The staff were all so very nice and hospitable. The menu was filled with so many choices of sweet and savory. My husband and I chose to share the "Mok a Saurus" because their portion sizes are generous! We also got a size of french toast and a keiki kids meal. Everything was delicious and gone by the end of the meal, the burger patties are perfect seasoned with a taste of char from the fire grill. Ambiance was casual and super laid back. This is a must stop in Hilo! Wish I could rate 10 stars.

Decided to check out this highly recommended place. Luckily the wait was not too long and we were seated soon after we added our names to the waitlist. Ordered the unsweetened iced tea and their special coffee which were pretty good, nothing super fancy. Hubby got the steak and eggs and I really wanted a loco moco but for a dollar more you get the Mok-A-Saurus plate with a little bit of everything - chicken katsu, spam, and kalua pork in addition to your beef patty, fried rice, eggs and gravy. We really should have shared - the portions are ginormous! The restaurant is at the end of the building, diner/cafe vibe with lots of tables and the ability to seat larger groups. I'm sure it gets super busy on weekends given the generous portions of homestyle food.

Mento bento with grilled pork, fish cake, spam, and yummy poke

We were so delighted we found this gem for lunch in Hilo after stopping by the Hilo market. This restaurant is located at the end of a strip mall along with other small businesses. We were greeted by a friendly staff and readily seated in a nice booth. The place is clean, busy, and had a steady stream of customers. Our server was friendly and gave us a genuine and warm aloha welcome, and once seated, left us with enough time to look over their thick menu. We ordered "bigger than your head" pancake with generous strips of bacon, mouth watering loco moco with perfectly cooked sunny side up eggs, and a ginormous portion of mento bento! We were stuffed and had more than enough leftovers for another meal! Make this restaurant a MUST STOP in Hilo because it is just a fantastic place, courteous staff, great meal for your buck, and where you will find a true Aloha spirit. Aloha and mahalo!

Prime rib loco moco (special of the day)

If you're looking for a sit-down breakfast spot, this is definitely worth checking out. We arrived before opening and were surprised to see a line already forming, but once the doors opened, things moved quickly and we were seated without much of a wait. The service really stood out--staff were friendly, attentive, and efficient from the start. Water was brought to the table right away, and they offered additional drink options. I ordered a coffee, which comes with two refills, a nice bonus. We decided to share the prime rib loco moco, and the portion was massive--definitely enough for two. While the size impressed us, the flavor didn't quite match. It was decent, but a bit underwhelming overall and needed some extra salt to bring out the taste. That said, the experience itself was great thanks to the excellent service and generous portions. I'd be open to coming back and trying something different--maybe the next dish will elevate the overall impression.

Came on a weekday around 11AM, and man they were super super busy. They offer a Yelp waitlist, so definitely take advantage of it and start joining the waitlist approximately 20-30 minutes before you think you will get there. We didn't know about the Yelp waitlist, so we arrived, joined the waitlist, and had enough time to drive out and get coffee. This place is super busy and popular, and for good reason! Food was delicious, portion sizes are ginormous. Haupia Pancakes (10/10) - as a breakfast spot, we came from the pancakes, and they did not disappoint - 1st off when you get here, take a look at one of the tables and admire the size of these pancakes. They were literally the size of my head, and are so large. They are falling off the sides of the plates - pancakes are super fluffy, stuffed with coconut, and come with a dressing that's light, it packed with coconut flavor *Mok-A-Sauras (9/10) - Loco Mocos are a Hawaiian staple. However, usually it comes with simply rice, eggs, hamburger patty, and maybe spam. The spot instead offers a plate back in addition to the above, also gives you Kalua pork and a fried chicken cutlet. Get all the meats!! - this dish was super satisfying and filling, and each meat was tender and unique in their own ways. It really blended well together perfect dish to share with a big group. *Home Of The Original Kalua Hash And Eggs (7/10) - regarding the hash itself, it felt a little lacking in flavor and a little uninspiring. Maybe this was because all the other items that we ordered were so fantastic that the hash was slightly forgotten about. - as usual, portion sizes are huge, and this can also come with a side of pancakes! Although they are plain pancakes, the pancakes that are provided are the same huge portion as stated above. Super huge and 100% will fill you up if you're looking for a big portion sizes.

The garlic chicken was really good and came with a great sauce. The tripe in the tripe stew was really tender and the sauce/broth it came with was really tasty. Portions were generous. I would order the food again. My husband loved the kalbi beef which he says was really tender.

This was busy but for good reason. Quality food for a diner. We were the last party eating outside so appreciated the staff checking in on us. I really enjoyed my salad refreshing with the rest of the heaviness of the meal. It was heavy but was great for leftovers. Short ribs were tender, french toast was delicious.

Arrived on a Saturday night a little before 5 for dinner and there already was a line. Recommend getting there early to avoid wait times. Service was kind and friendly, offered a variety of specials and seems like a place with lots of great options. Casual atmosphere. We ordered the Macnut Panko Mahi which was delicious, my only change would be more of the sweet chili sauce. We also ordered the mixed plate and found both meals to very filling given the price. Overall, this meal was delicious with great service and great value. Would definitely come back or recommend.

After a long day of traveling, we wanted to try some local Hawaiian favors. I got the Mento Bento (kalbi, chicken cutlet, ahi poke, spam, egg, uzumaki, takuan). Didn't expect the portions to be that large (could easily be shared by 2). I liked the variety of this dish. The kalbi was extremely flavorful: sweet and the umami wasn't too overpowering). A few of the ahi pieces were a bit tough. Service was average but the hostess was really nice making sure we were seated fast and explaining the specials to us.

    Deluxe Fried Saimin
    Judy C.

Was at the Airport visitor center and I asked where I could get a good plate lunch type of meal and the lovely gal recommended this place. My nephew and I shared the deluxe saimin that came with mini fried wontons, Korean chicken and boneless kalbi. We also shared the Mok-A-Sauras that had a hamburger steak, spam, chicken cutlet, Kalua pig and fried rice with eggs. Our favorite was the deluxe Saimin. Both the Korean chicken and kalbi was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of flavoring. The Mok-A-Saurus was good but the Kalua pig was too salty. The hamburger steak had a great grilled flavoring and the gravy was perfect for everything. The portion of fried rice was a bit small for the size of the plate. Service was great as they had a lot of servers working Definitely would come back again.

Came on a weeknight and were seated right away. The vibe is very casual, diner, a little retro. Lots of Hawaiian/Japanese/Korean fusion food options and portions are BIG! Prices are reasonable for the size too ($~20 a plate). Ahi poke nachos really hit the spot-- huge plate and fresh fish. The two entrees came with little sides of kimchi as well that was really good. The meat was all cooked really well-- everything was tender, flavorful, and tasty. The Galbi in the mento bento was excellent and the Korean pork as well! We ended up taking a lot to go because the portions were so big. Had a great experience!

    Stephanie K.

Service is always fantastic. We've eaten here for lunch twice and finally came for breakfast. It was so good! Portion sizes are huge. Had the banana macadamia nut pancakes and they were delicious! My family members had pancakes, waffles, steak omelette, and French toast and it was 5 stars all around!

The Employees were all extremely kind and showed so much aloha but after we got our drinks and put our order in, it took our party over an hour and a half to get our food!! And it wasn't only our table, almost every single table around us that we knew sat way before us was still waiting for their food! Our lovely Server took our order and we never saw her again! all the foods were dropped by the other Employees in the black shirt. Idk if the kitchen was extremely short staffed and Aunty went in the back to help cook. We have no idea. I was really amazed that no one lost their patience.. Customer or Staff. WE all looked miserable together. The Host definitely should have communicated with people trying to put their names down that they are very tied up and give an estimated time the cooks are cranking out orders. A lot of people have an agenda. There's tournaments, parties, tours happening and can't afford to just waste 1 1/2- 2 hours sitting in a restaurant. Plus, you may wanna double check your bill. We had two tables side by side but sis merged another random table into our bill and luckily my brother caught it bc it was an extra $80 we almost paid,

We didn't think of anything when we saw it the first time. By just looking at the name of it though, my immediate reaction was, "Is this a kombuchas bar??" Well, it is but it's not just kombuchas they serve; it's more than that. The breakfast/brunch dishes they serve (although they don't have a huge selection) are quite diverse. I do incorporate a lot of vegetarian/vegan diet into my daily meal routine so when I saw the Verdant Vegan I simply couldn't skip it. As my daughter and I usually split a plate when we dine together she agreed to this option of mine. Glad we did. This plate has all sorts of goodness included in it. Sautéed veggies, house-made lentil walnut chorizo, ginger beet kraut, fire-roasted jalapeno cashew crema, fire-roasted tomato salsa, and it's topped it off with sprouts. This whole thing comes with either purple sweet potato home fries or red rice (which we went with the purple sweet potato fries and ended up getting a side red rice. We also got the side kimchi and one egg sunny side up.) And we shared a 16oz Ceremonial Matcha latte as well. This vegan plate is way more than vegan. It's mighty as hell. For those who are still not sure about vegan options will definitely second guess it for something that isn't vegan/vegetarian. It's truly nutrition packed in so many different ways. If I lived close to this cafe, I would eat here once a week to enjoy this delightful meal. I am not kidding. I enjoyed the matcha latte very much although my daughter rated it as "okay". She likes her matcha in a very particular way so it unfortunately didn't impress her. This is not to say that she disliked it. She said it wasn't bad either. This place is a "walk in, order upfront, pick a table where you want to sit and one of the staff will bring your food to you" style cafe. Water is self-served. Once you are done with your meal you'll put your dirty dishes in the designated tub. I like this efficient style of serving food. This place has great vibes as well. A bit hippie-ish where bright dark colors such as purple and red are incorporated into the interior. There is even a stage where bands perform on certain days/times. Quite cool-looking. If you are visiting Hilo soon then put this place on your "must visit" restaurant list. Friendly staff, reasonable prices and quality food will entertain you for sure.

Paul explained the menu and gave us recommendations. I was already interested in the Pasta de Marco, which appears to be a part of a regular menu. Angel hair pasta, lightly fried, tossed with fresh veggies and pesto, and lightly toasted baguette on the side. We also had the tuna, two ways, and papaya salad. Both were perfect, incredibly fresh, all ingredients balanced, beautifully presented. Paul had us end with the Belgium waffle. I've had waffles in Belgium, and these were the best I've had. Crispy, soft, with berries, whip cream, and powdered sugar, it didn't even need the (warm!) syrup. This experience felt like being a guest in the chef's home. Paul treated all customers as a friend, he was funny, relaxed, and personable. I also personally appreciated it is the safest restaurant for me to eat at as he hates bell peppers as much as I do! A fresh new dining concept replacing WSW will happen soon, before winter 2026. Complete with interior renovations, a refreshed menu, new wraparound bar and name. Here's an authentic snapshot, capturing my dining experiences at WSW before this transformation happens. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Tired of waiting for a breakfast table, want the convenience of making a reservation? Don't like your family placed on separate tables? Do you seek comfort and air conditioning in the morning? A venue that offers an upscale breakfast ambiance with ocean views? This is the place. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ À la carte breakfast at WSW is underrated and deserves promoting. The locals, I feel, need to know about this place. Served Mon-Fri with reservations available via the OpenTable app. Recently, I did a two-night stay at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. I decided to dine at WSW for all meals and it introduced me to their breakfast and dinner à la carte experiences. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Savory comfort, genuine hospitality, breathtaking morning views. Hungry? "I'm Starving", the portions and price point sure surprised me. 3 eggs, 2 breakfast meats, choice of starch and a short stack had me content beyond reason. These pancakes aren't premade for quick serving or, so large in size the quality of taste and texture diminishes. They're fluffy, sweet, pillowy with an airy interior, caramelized exterior. Enjoy an order of their hearty + comforting Housemade Corned Beef Hash, where each component melds perfectly together. The eggs are opulent in color and served with your choice of starch. This is my favorite. Their Belgium Waffle is light and delicate, deep subtly butteriness and balanced sweetness. Garnished with blueberries and whipped butter. Simple yet prepared with care. On Saturdays and Sundays, a $25 breakfast buffet with an omelet station is offered. For a $35 upcharge after 8am enjoy steamed snow crab, carved Prime Rib and bottomless mimosas. A champagne brunch experience I've done many times. As WSW turns into a new dining concept, I hope breakfast remains unchanged. Food, service, ambiance, value, convenience. I currently rate it as the best breakfast spot in East Hawai'i. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Dinner. "Sizzling 16oz Ribeye", juicy and tender. Intense sizzle, the flavors were so on-point, the side sauce I ordered wasn't necessary. The quick sear rendered a perfect medium and the caramelized onions were so delicious, I ate them as a no-onion person. Served with garlic mashed potatoes, request a a baked potato upgrade. The Misoyaki Butterfish, moist with a caramelized glaze and rich umami flavor. I would recommend checking the texture of your rice though. Tinono appetizer, amazing flavor and texture profile. A must along with the creamy Lobster Mac 'n Cheese. This is the only restaurant on the East Side that offers a salad bar with dinner. For $10 with any entrée, four offerings plus two outstanding soup selections. The most hearty and delicious Clam Chowder I've had in a while, it deserves a spot on their new menu. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Weekend dinner, holiday and brunch buffets, this is what this location is known for since I was a kid. Even though the lavish offerings and prices have changed over time, the same charm of dining here still remains. I usually only come for two items, the rest is secondary. Snow Crab and Prime Rib. If both are prepared well, I'm satisfied. But there's times the prime rib is inconsistent in-flavor and texture. Yet, I always leave satisfied since everything else usually balances things out. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I feel a sense of belonging, the guest service at WSW makes me feel valued. From entry at the host stand, to the front team, to the managers. I don't feel like I'm just another transaction, but appreciated as a local resident and return customer. Live action stations (omelet/carving), the kitchen team has moments where their level of service isn't consistent with those in the front. It should add to the overall dining experience, be a part of the "show". There's a select few, seniors of the front team who create a meaningful connection each time. My dining experience becomes personalized with genuine empathy and emotional awareness. Thank you. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Let's celebrate their evolution, a brand refresh and dining concept change. I'm excited with anticipation and looking forward to supporting your new vision. Thank you for continually elevating the dining experience and welcoming myself + the community back for decades. As a new chapter unfolds, "Congratulations".
