While I don't come here for gas, I was forced here for the HI-5 recycling redemption service, ran by Aloha Recycling. I usually patronize the location next to UHMC but their redemption center has been closed for several weeks already due to staffing, but you can still drop off recyclables there. Tucked in between the gas station and car wash is the small, dirty and bustling operation. Grab one of the netted carts, dump your separated goods in them and wheel it to the attendant. They'll print out a receipt which you take to the gas station's window cashier who'll disperse your money. OVERALL: Do your part and recycle!

Obtaining a job as a stevedore with the company is almost akin to winning the lottery, LOL. Sadly, it's who you know like in most places. Overtime pay equals beaucoup bucks but the hours can be crazy. EXPERIENCE: We used them way back in the mid-90's to ship a vehicle from Maui to Arizona and back (via Long Beach, CA) for yours truly to drive while in school. Back then, you had the option of shipping your vehicle either inside a container or outside, the latter of course being cheaper. We went with the enclosed container which ran around $800-something one-way and kept the car much cleaner. Nowadays it's all enclosed and about double the price. The voyage took around five days or so each way, and the car arrived damage-free both times. Today, it's much easier to prepare yourself and your vehicle as everything is online. Some things didn't change, such as: 1) Gas level needs to be at ¼ tank or less. 2) Your vehicle must be emptied of loose items, legal and brought in clean in order for inspection to be done. And the "duh factor": Don't leave any valuables inside your vehicle! Signage at Kahului Harbor is poor compared to Long Beach, but due to its small size, it's quicker and easier to get in and out. The office was located inside of the big warehouse building at pier 1 but it could've changed since then. FUN FACT: Way back in the day, Matson briefly operated aircraft and passenger ships between Pacific locations/ports and the US west coast. OVERALL: It's either Matson or Pasha for your vehicle shipping needs. You decide.

Apparently they don't consider that some of their customers (that paid 2-3 thousand dollars for their service) are driving from Kona and can't just leave work and come pick up their car. Further, they're only open on days and during hours that are convenient for them, apparently, and YOU have to check and make arrangements around THEM to be able to pick up your own car. Seems as though the attitude is "now that we have your money, you work around us."

We had no electricity for…read morethe washers and dryers after Hurricane Lala, so I called around to see if there were commercial size machines. A&E said to come on down and we did. We had 12 huge bags of towels and blankets, and were able to get the clothes washed and dried in 3 hours. The wonderful woman there helped us tremendously by directing us to particular machines so we could get done quickly, and she also coordinated with other patrons so we didn't inconvenience anyone too much. I hope management takes this complaint seriously and reminds staff that customers deserve to be treated with patience, courtesy, and respect--especially when there is a problem with one of the machines.

I have called the company multiple times asking if we could be out of contract and done with their service so we can move onto a different more reasonable priced disposal company their response is we have to pay six months in advance to cancel, and that their contract automatically renews every three years. I do not recommend signing a contract with this company. There are plenty of better options.

Below is an email I had written to the owner of Maui Disposal, please give it a read, its a wonderful feel good email: "Dear Mr. Clyde Kaneshiro, I just wanted to express my gratitude towards the kindness of one of your workers over at Maui Disposal. Raymond (we call him Uncle Happy) picks up the dumpster bins at Kaahumanu Church. My 3-year old son, Mauloa, absolutely LOVES garbage trucks and is always standing outside our house waiting for our Maui County rubbish pick ups on Tuesday and Friday, our neighbors County pick up on Mondays, and the churches Maui Disposal pick up on Thursdays. As soon as we see Raymond driving up Main Street in Wailuku, we can already see his big smile and see him waving at Mau. As a mother, it just melts my heart to see wonderful people who my son idolizes show such delightful feedback to these keiki. Mau always gets so excited and will talk about Uncle Happy all day. On Christmas Eve, I heard the Maui Disposal truck picking up the rubbish while I got ready for work. My son had already left for the day with my father in law so I was disappointed that he wasn't going to get to see Uncle Happy that day. I left the house and have to walk past the church to get to work and got to see Uncle Happy in the parking lot. I told him good morning and that my son would be so bummed that he missed him! Uncle Happy expressed his disappointment as well and said, "Oh no, where is he today!?" I told him my father in law is babysitting since my normal care giver is on vacation. Uncle Happy reached for something next to him and handed me a HUGE wrapped present with 3 little trucks AND a Maui Disposal dumpster bin attached to it! "We have a present for him! Can you please give it to him?" How thoughtful is that!? He probably doesn't know how much he just MADE Mau's Christmas!! I was just so overwhelmed at this unbelievably kind gesture. Uncle Happy (I learned that morning that his real name is Raymond!) already goes above and beyond by smiling and waving to Mau. We are already so grateful that he always has a BIG smile (which is how he got the name Uncle Happy!) when he says HI to Mau and we just appreciate so much how much it makes Mau's day. Mau was very excited to open his gift from Uncle Raymond and the Maui Disposal `Ohana on Christmas morning. His reaction was PRICELESS. I have never seen my son jump up and down in excitement as much as he did when he opened his gift and saw a new garbage truck! He has so many garbage trucks but not this one! It looked just like the Maui Disposal Truck he loves to see on Thursdays. I gotta say, Uncle Happy and the Maui Disposal team trumped Santa big time this Christmas! Thank you VERY much to Raymond. Besides being such great guys, they bust their okole doing their job and Mau loves to watch them jump out of the truck and pull out the dumpster bins for Uncle Happy to dump into the rubbish truck. He is always amazed how easy Uncle Happy makes it look and wants to do both jobs when he gets older so you guys better keep some positions open for Mau! ;) OH and of course did I mention Holoholo Ka`a!?!?!
