I wanted a pedicure in novato yesterday but i didn't have an appointment. I went to the nail salon in the vintage oaks shopping center but they were too busy & said i needed to make an appointment for another day. There were about 20 customers. Then I remember there is a nail salon on grant ave in novato - hawaiian nails. They have a big sign that says walk- ins welcome. I go in & there are no other customers. weird. So the whole time I'm trying to figure out WHY there are no customers. Figured it out: the place is kind of messy & depressing; the music in the background is elevator music; the 3 employees were like zombies-not nice, no smiles ,no talking. The pedicure was ok but i will not go back because it was so depressing there. read more

The ladies who work there are always welcoming and friendly. I'm a little taken back by the comments about rudeness, because that has never been my experience. The end result was pretty mediocre. Today I was left with pointy, unfiled edges on some of my nails - I only get the mani/pedi, I don't do color or gels. It's pretty straightforward. My pedi was outstanding, and the woman who gave it was very sweet. The mani was very rushed and sloppy. She forgot my hot towel and I walked out of there smelling like overly fragranced lotion. I wanted my nails buffed shiny, but that never happened because she was so busy bustling in a walk-in, even though the salon was full, because the walk-in was an old regular customer who moved away (by the way, how rude of the customer to walk in, sabotage my manicure, and take someone else's appointment - totally entitled and inconsiderate). While I really like the ladies who work there, I'm going to try somewhere else, where I feel like I'm getting my money's worth. read more

I went to a real nail tech and she was appalled by my previous nails done by Hawaii Nails and told me to report them to the state board! They always make me wait. Never had an all around good experience with them. It's always something. This time will be my last. I tried booking for a 6pm because they say the close at 7pm but apparently 6pm is too late?? Makes no sense, terrible service. On top of that, they made my 21st birthday experience insanely bad. This one specific lady made me extremely upset and emotional because of her totally rude and unprofessional attitude towards me after she just started on me. Hawaii Nail to the rescue for my toes. I just had my nails done somewhere else (not gonna mention where though) and I HATED the pink color on my toes. After walking around after I decided I wanted a nail color change. I normally don't do things like this and just live with the color until it's time for another pedicure, but honestly, the screaming pink color was seriously bothering me. I called 2 other nail salons. The first one quoted me $16 for a nail color change, the 2nd place said $20. Geez, just to change nail polish colors? Hawaii Nail to the rescue. I've lived in Marin for forty years & have gotten pedicures at least once a month. Hawaii Nails has got to be one of the worst places. I'm almost laughing since it was so bad; it wouldn't be the cold shoulder that I received since I'm used to that, it's gotta be the way way the pedicure chick kept twisted & twisting my leg and repositioning my foot to put the acrylic powder on the broken toenail. That kind of behavior has necer happened to me! Thank God I finally screamed, I literally thought that she was going to singled-handedly tear my MCL and then pull my hip out of alignment. I think her name was Kaitlyn or Katheryn one of those K names. Clearly, her work is bad as I'm gonna need to pay for someone else to re-do it. It is disturbing that anyone, from anywhere, can start a business without professional etiquette and business 101 knowledge. I can handle the language barrier but these women are cold, rude and unprofessional. From eating with their mouths wide open while they're working, to talking in their language about you and laughing (at least learn to be discreet about it.) their extremely low class behavior is appalling. I got there and got a pedicure which was fine. I waited over an hr for my manicure and it never happened. I had to walk out as everyone else was being served before me even though I had an appointment. Then, when she placed a too hot towel onto my foot and I screamed out loud, that was the final straw.
