I happened to be in Novato for work yesterday and my usual nail shops were all booked out for the day. I was walking down Grant and saw they had time for a gel pedicure and O M G. This pedicure was amazing. The woman who did mine (unsure of her name) was so so thorough! She did probably the most excellent job I've ever seen. She was very meticulous high I appreciated but still got the job done in a normal amount of time. I did not look at reviews prior to coming here but I think it's important to state that my experience was fantastic and I will be coming back! Side note: a great price as well! read more

I'm new to town and was looking to get a pedi cause I'm on my feet over 10 hrs a day at work. It was easy to make an appointment. When I got here my water was already ready ( I had mixed feelings about this cause idk how old the water was). So she started the pedi seems they don't have options to pick from. I have never had a pedi last less then 20mins and the was included cleaning up my toes. She barely even rubbed my feet. She just ran some lotion my my legs really fast and pushed me off on someone to paint my toes. I would understand if they were busy but I was the only one there. It's been about 2 years since I've been going to Johnny and Daisy somewhat regularly. They are open just about EVERY day from what I can tell. This means if you just want to drop in, you probably (not guaranteed, however) won't have much of a wait. And you can always make an appointment just to be sure. Johnny hooked me up with an excellent clear nail product for my fingernails which are fragile and don't respond well to my gardening ardor. They break, split and generally hate me for using them as garden and cooking tools. What can I say? Hands, fingers and nails exist to be utilized. I am not dainty about my digits. My view is, the longer the fingernails, the more they get in the way. HOWEVER, the Huzby likes me to get tarted up from time to time so I must, therefore, do my wifely duty and indulge him. Life as a tart is SO high maintenance. With this clear nail product my nails finally achieve a Huzby-pleasing length. Therefore, my twice a year Jezebel impersonation keeps the Huzby happy. I LOVE THEIR WORK! I came in yesterday for eyelash extensions ($35!), and eyebrow waxing. Both took only 45 minutes and my eyelashes look full and wonderful. No irritation, and the lady was very nice and made sure I felt comfortable. I already got compliments on my extensions just hours after walking out. My eyebrows took about 2 minutes and all I wanted was my stray hairs out of the way since i have very bushy brows, and the shape is perfect! She even went in with tweezers to make it all nice and even. Really happy with the work that got done, ESPECIALLY since I was a walk in around 5:30! read more

I wish I had read the Yelp reviews. I agree that this place is unsanitary. Daisy cut my big toenails too deep into the skin and now I have an ingrown toenail on one. It hurts! And it is growing a weird shape out one side. I have never had a bad pedicure so I trusted the work. It has only been two days since I had them done. I am applying lots of antibiotic and anti-fungal cream since I am guessing the scissors were not sterilized. I want to support a new small business and I have never given a bad review in my life but this is ridiculous. Does anyone out there know how to treat an infected nailbed? Ack! read more

Pedicure ONLY First off my feet are not disastrous or gross by any means. My skin just grows faster; I have dry feet. If my toe nails get even a tad long I cut them WAY too short because the length just BUGS me. They have NEVER been crackly or with fungus. Now you know what I went in with. If I could give a .05, I would. I am SO disappointed. I walked in and place was empty, THAT should have been my first clue. Nice people but the pedicure was absolutely ineffective. I am so discouraged. :-( it was the older woman who gave pedicure. Pros: nice enough people Price-okay Leg massage okay Cons: -soak time insufficient -Removal of skin lacked beyond expectation. (Next day after I realized she removed maybe 1/4 of what should have been, I soaked my own feet and my toe area, heels, and everywhere and removed myself. Aargh.) -Polish administration and durability was awful. One toe's polish came off within 10 hours -Filing of nails - the same night I caught the toe nail on a sock. I asked her to file all round. I don't keep nails long at all. She rounded the nails with clippers too deep, I hope I don't get ingrown nails due to this. -She gave advice about lotion and application. She should have used more pedicure tools, skin removal product and time. This was absolutely the WORST pedicure I've ever received. I normally would have gone back and informed the owners but I am TOO upset that this happened too me and I allowed it. I really didn't want anything to set me off to explode. I'm a kind and understanding person but even after 3 days I'm still VERY dissolutioned. Still after 2 more days I'm even more upset. I wish I'd gone back for my money. read more

Being new to Novato, this is my first visit to Top Nails. The wonderful and sweet little Asian women running the place are not only nice, but they're very funny indeed. I needed a fill, badly; I had a chipped nail!!! OH NO!!!!!!!! So, I'm sitting there waiting for my turn, listening to this 'woman' belch out what was in her uneducated head. She had nothing but the most ignorant things to say "Mexicans are so tiny and ugly ... look at those guys out there" pointing out the window. No one tiny and ugly out there as far as I was concerned, but she kept going on, as though her thoughts were well read. Weird. I kept glancing at the attendants who would sweetly smile back. Then suddenly one of the sweet little attendants came over to my chair and stood behind me, commencing a wonderful shoulder rub! I've never had that happen before! She must have seen me wincing at my fellow female (albeit she was quite white-trash - just lacking the dental-deferred horse teeth). I went here on Saturday and got a gel mani and a reg pedi while my child was enjoying the amazing art studio next door. By the time I got home to MV, my pedicure polish was a mess even though I stayed seated for almost 30 min and was super careful because I had a feeling this wasn't going to be good. When they started working on my feet, they wanted me to soak my whole hands in acetone :/ Umm, that can't be good for my skin. And here I am on Wednesday and sure enough my fingers are all dried out and peelie because I was asked to soak my skin in that toxic shit. Absolutely awful! I phoned ahead for availability and arrived at 2:45 to an empty salon. I showed my gift certificate for manicure and pedicure and instantly the mood changed. The nail technician was very rude. She cut, filed and painted my nails in ten minutes. No cuticle treatment, no pumice stone, and no message. Worst nail experience. Walked into an empty salon. I needed to get my gel removed. The "technician" soaked my fingers in dirty acetone. I said I would rather have cotton soaked remover on top of nails wrapped in foil so my hands don't dry out. She said that takes too long. Then, fine I'll just file your gel. She began filing with the electric nail file very roughly and just tearing my nails apart. Also used a dirty paper towel to wipe my nails down. No sanitizing whatsoever. I said this is not pleasant. Could she please just soak the nails with cotton as most salons do. She said no and insinuated I leave. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Go anywhere else. I went in today to get a regular pedicure and a gel manicure and I treated my little cousin to acrylic nails and pedicure our pedicures were great they cleaned up our feet and took their time to really make our feet great BUT OUR HAND NAILS?? I got a simple French gel manicure 1st complaint they charged me $5 extra to remove my original nail polish, then she didn't even cut my nails or trim them just filed them down didn't even cut my cuticles or clean under my nail went strain to doing my French tip and even that came out horrible each finger has a glob of nail polish in the corner of it and when I said something she just looked at me and said oh it's ok it's ok and did nothing about it my total just for myself came out to $62 which is insane when I usually always pay $50 anywhere else for my little cousin she asked them for a coffin shape and they charged an extra $5 for that too and made 2 fingers super crooked when we complained about that she kept telling us that her fingers were crooked not her nail and when we told her that this isn't our first time getting our nails done and that they haven't looked like that before she ignored us and went to the next client!!!! These people are rude and as a Novato resident I can say that this is the worst place and experience that I've ever had getting my nails done long story short save your money and go elsewhere because even if they do something wrong they will not correct it and over charge you for everything!!! I went to get a men's manicure/pedicure. I am going back today to see how they handle the situation. Since 5 days ago, when Daisey did my pedicure, I have been unable to wear shoes or socks and have been in severe pain with a big toe nail infection caused by her overly aggressive trimming. At the time this caused me pain and bleeding but soon became infected and inflamed. I can walk again and am going to see her to find out she intends to handle this. When I phoned her the next day, but she took no responsibility for the injury and asked me to come in. I am going to see her today, the first day I can travel with the infection down slightly. I hope this does not prevent my Memorial Day camping trip, which involves getting hiking boots on. So far, I can't even stand putting socks on. read more

I read all the reviews and went to Top Nails. I called that day and got 3 of us in for pedicures. The website said $20 pedicures. We all showed up on time. A man and woman were there to take care of us. They put us in the wonderful massage chairs, started on my daughter and mom, while it enjoyed the chair. When it was my turn the man seemed a bit irritated. I asked him nicely, but everything seemed to be a hassle for him to do, adjusting the water temperature, shaping my toe nails, filing my calluses. He was very rough. He was physically abusive, scraping the bones of my feet with the pumice stone and pushing my feet into the water. He kept speaking angrily in Chinese to the woman. It goes on and on from there..... Rude and extremely poor customer service. Luckily the woman finished the job and gave me a nice calf massage. My mother got a pretty nice pedicure from the woman. They charged $22 per pedicure too. This was the worst pedicure and most abusive experience I have ever had in a salon. I will never go back or refer Top Nails as long as that man is there, I believe he owns the place. read more

I recently moved to Novato and have been on the hunt for a reliable nail salon ever since. Today I decided that I badly needed a new set w/ color tip. When I walked in this place they were already working on several other people, so they told to come back at 4pm...I wasn't planning to so I walk further down the street to Nail Studio and they wanted me to come back in 30 min:(...(Come on give me a break!). So I walked further down the street to Blossom or Blooming nails and when I went inside a lady asked me to pick a color.....I told her I was looking to do a leopard print nail...she looked at me like I had called her mom a stank-a** hoe .... she told me I was crazy because she never heard such a thing and just pick a solid color....I walked out of there right then because I refuse to give my money to a place that lacks respect! After all this Jaquifa mess it was almost 4pm so I hustled over to Top nails.... I AM SO GLAD I DID !!!!!!!!!!!! The lady working there(I forgot to ask her name sorry) was very friendly and took her time making sure every nail was precisely done right. My fake nails look so natural I thought I grew them within an hour! Afterwords they never rushed my out and helped me pick up my belongings so I would not smudge my nails :)! Meh. Was hoping to finally find a nail salon in Novato I was happy with. So far all the salons I've been to have fallen sadly flat. Either unsanitary, bad mani or bad service. Today was sort of all three. I can't say the service was exactly bad, just non existent. I walked in with a 10 o'clock appt. The lady there looked like she wasn't expecting me. Showed me her collection of gel colors. I'd say maybe 20? I was looking for dark blue and the only thing they had was a baby blue. I had old gel polish to remove so she started my hands soaking in a bowl of gel remover. Then another lady comes out. I have no idea what any of these ladies names were. As I am sitting there I see that nothing is sterilized. Neither person said a word to me. She did the gel manicure did a good job with the cuticles but the polish isn't good. She went over the tips twice without painting over the whole nail so now I have marks/swirls where she did the tips. My pointer finger isn't even covered all the way. She didn't use any lotion at all on my hands. None. I found that odd since my hands are parched from the acetone soak. This is basically what I could have done myself. I hate paying for things that aren't done any better than I can do it. $35 for a mani with gel paint, plus tip. Won't be back. read more

I found Top Nails after my coworker and I finished an extremely long work week and decided we were in dire need of a pedicure! I live in San Rafael, so I was looking for a place that would squeeze us in with only short notice, and after many calls and no luck, we decided to start searching in nearby Novato. After seeing the great reviews for Top Nails on Yelp, I decided to call and Johnny answered the phone; he was very friendly and happy to make a last minute appointment for us. Johnny and his wife Daisy own the spa, and they were so sweet and funny; kept my coworker and I simultaneously laughing and relaxing the whole time! The price is extremely reasonable, only $22 for a pedicure which included one of the best leg/foot massages I've ever had. (Daisy has magic fingers!!!)
