Do not go here!! This business is not licensed and has not been for a while!! I took my vehicle to Q to get my transmission fixed as a recommendation from another respectable company. Upon getting my vehicle back the seats, shifter, pretty much everything in the front seat had oil all over it. My vehicle ran well for one day then it began to miss, Q said he could find a part so he had to use and old one and basically "MacGyver" it. I took my vehicle back to get it fix, upon getting it back again same thing oil all over the inside of vehicle I took it for a test drive but Q only took me around the block then basically belittled me about how cars work. I went back home and again the vehicle now could barely keep up with traffic, I went back a 3rd time to get it fixed. Upon getting it back a 3rd time I noticed he had got into a collision with my vehicle and was not gonna say anything about it and again the vehicle had oil all over the inside. Then again it still was not running correctly to the point where I have to get a new vehicle. I asked Q for my money back had he basically said no he's not giving me my money back cause he needs a chance to fix it. Basically jus yelling at me on the phone, still refusing to give me my money back. I then looked up his business and the business is not licensed and it has not been for a while! He hasn't paid he taxes! Basically in the states eyes this business is no longer operational! Q also does not have a valid driver's license to test drive his customers vehicles!! Brought my Chevy Camaro here last year, it was throwing a transmission temperature sensor code. As well as showing signs of a bad torque converter. I came in with knowledge of the problems, obviously the shop has to evaluate the problems themselves to confirm. Everything I've already stated was confirmed, my torque converter was under warranty still. We started the process of replacing through warranty system. THIS TOOK MONTHS. He was so hard to hear back from, and was not contacting the warranty company in any timely manner. He also mansplained the entire process to me. Anyways after he talked my ear off and showed me someone else's deconstructed transmission, and telling me endless personal stories about his car rental business he had during COVID I left him with my car .. for WEEKS. He ordered the part for my car third party and didn't go through my warranty system ensuring me his part was better because if it was faulty he knew he could send it back unlike with my warranty. This cost me money out of pocket, along with extra shipping fees he didn't tell me about until I went to pick it up. If he would have gone directly through my warranty all I should have been responsible for was my warranty payment of 100 dollars and tax on the labor that wasn't covered in Hawaii with my mainland warranty. I ended up paying over 500 dollars for a warranty repair that took over a month and GET THIS. I pick up my car and my temp sensor isn't even replaced. Only The torque converter. The code it had been showing the whole time was still there and he told me that repairs start with one thing at a time. So now I can bring it back in and he will give Me a " discount" of $800 dollars to replace a part that costs under $200. Long story short go to Kiyos transmission shop. He's kind and finished the job for $200 dollars and I just bought the sensor from Chevy and he did it same day. This guy sent me through the ringer. I want to start out by mentioning, I'm not one who gets on Yelp often and tries to tear businesses down. I would never recommend anyone to come to this shop and get anything repaired on their vehicle. I brought my 2012 Jeep Sport Wrangler in due to a concern with an oil leak or possible transmission fluid leak. I called and spoke with Q. He said all the right things and said I could bring in my vehicle that day and he would assess the problem. I brought my vehicle in and my first impression of the shop was not favorable. The shop seemed disorganized and not maintained well. Despite my gut feeling, I wanted to give the shop a chance, so I spoke with Q and he told me it was rear main seal leak and that he could also put in a new clutch. He also said he would have to resurface the flywheel. I had been pondering recently about installing a new clutch. I decided to move forward with the repair. The total estimate for everything including labor was $1965.62. So, we both agreed that I would drop the vehicle in the shop on the following Tuesday. Mind you this was a Friday when this all happened. Fast forward to Tuesday, I drop my vehicle off at the shop and Q assures me that the vehicle will be finished and ready in three days. Three days have passed and no update or no communication whatsoever. I call and get ahold of Q; he conveniently tells me the clutch he ordered was not in stock when he went to pick it up. Red flags are starting to pop up with these interactions and excuses. Keep in mind this is my only means of transportation. I'm a disabled Veteran, I have continuous medical appointments to attend. I have to travel often for other work responsibilities that require functional transportation. Q then proceeds to play it down and make some reference about " You know how it goes no big deal." Really! In hindsight this is when I should have come back and removed my vehicle from the shop's possession. Being that I already invested all this time with this shop, I thought it would be better off just to have them finish the work order and have the repair done. Q assures it will be done by the following Tuesday or Wednesday. Making it a week now and not three days as was promised when I turned my vehicle into the shop. Fast forward to the following Tuesday, I've still not heard anything or received any update on the status of my vehicle. I call and Q answers, this is where his attitude changed, he started to get verbally combative with me he proceeds to tell me I was holding him up and distracting him. Unbelievable! I was just calling to get an update on my vehicle so I can plan accordingly to get a ride to the shop to pick up my vehicle. It's raining red flags at this point! Finally on that afternoon he calls me and tells me everything is ready. I come there Wednesday morning to pick up my Jeep, he assures me everything is done and there are no problems anymore. I took a test run with the Jeep with Q inside, the gears feel all wrong the clutch pedal is spongy and does not feel right at all. He tells me it will adjust and it's normal. I'm at the point where I just want to get my vehicle out of there and to wash my hands clean of this experience. I confront Q in his office about his language and demeanor towards me on the previous day on the phone. He did apologize to me and went on about all the stress he was dealing with and some other instances with customers that had nothing to do with me. Whatever! While I'm driving my vehicle home the clutch will barely shift into 4th and 5th gear. I almost get hit by an eighteen-wheeler, because I cannot shift gears and merge into the lane. Assuring me the vehicle was safe to drive is beyond negligence and just outright horrific. Oh, and by the way my Jeep was still leaking oil, I had it looked at and he actually never replaced the rear main seal. He put some cheap epoxy sealant on it. I'm a retired Army combat Veteran, this experience really triggered me and it me took some time to decompress from this experience. Q refunded me for everything and apologized for what it was worth. Q when you read this, you know I sat down in your office and said this to your face as well. I don't want anyone to experience what I experienced with this transmission shop. I advise everyone to do your due diligence on these repair shops before you entrust them with your vehicle. I would never recommend anyone to get service at this shop. I ONLY took my 2002 Chevy avalanche to this place because it was towed here by Jiffy Lube who had suggested a transmission flush on my vehicle when I took it in for an oil change and engine flush, the guys ended up damaging the transmission.(That's another issue in itself) Anyhow, I went to pick up my truck after I got a call from Jiffy Lube that it was ready. Truck was towed to the shop on 9/6 and I was called on 9/19 to pick it up by the Jiffy Lube. When my husband and I went to pick up the truck Q seemed very nice and I had thanked him for fixing the transmission it was a frustrating process for my husband and I to go through waiting for corporate to give the okay to have Jiffy Lube find a shop to fix the transmission, I had asked him for a copy of the warranty receipt/invoice of repairs done and his demeanor changed. Q told me "You are blessed that jiffy lube fixed your transmission, they did you a favor! Just take your blessing and go don't bitch about anything else. Jiffy Lube didn't damage your transmission it was already damaged. You got lucky, they did you a favor. Just take your blessing and go!" When I tried to explain (why was I explaining myself to him...I don't know) the situation to him that the transmission service was suggested by Jiffy Lube he continued to cut me off and say that he knows what he's talking about he has X amount of experience. I didn't want to go back and forth with him so I politely asked for my copy of the services done. His response to me was contact Jiffy Lube corporate paid for the services not me, If I really want a receipt I should go back to Jiffy lube. Q if you ever read this I want you to know that the key to good customer service is staying neutral about a situation you know nothing about instead of adding fuel to the fire because now guess what I'm doing after this? Yeah, you guessed it. I'm contacting Jiffy Lube's corporate for a receipt of the services they paid for on the damages that their employees caused to begin with that you had to provide services for because you think "I got lucky and blessed that Jiffy Lube fixed a $4000 repair that was not their fault". Thank you for your honest opinion and hopefully honest diligence on my transmission. I would give you 5 stars if you left the opinion out and just gave me the receipt I needed for my records. read more

Service for a Ford F-250 6.7. Started with high hopes based off the good reviews I read. I needed to get the transmission rebuilt for my truck. Took it in didn't take long to get truck back. A day or so later I noticed it had an oil leak so I took it back thinking it may be the rear main seal in the trans. Took about 3 weeks and q saying he didn't know what it was and complaining how it was backing up his shop. I said I needed to stop by and get something from my truck and he called the next day saying it was fixed and ready. I went to get it believing that the oil leak was fixed. I got home and crawled under the truck only to see they used some epoxy sealant or something to coat around the problem area, around the oil pan, gasket and bolts. That isn't how a repair should be done, I would have rather him say he just couldn't do it and I would have gone somewhere else. If you value your time, and money I'd go somewhere more trustworthy and honest. Unless you want to pay hundreds on epoxy smeared all over the bottom of your ride as a quick fix. read more

BEWARE!! I was referred here by another Auto Repair Shop to do a transmission flush and change trans filter then seal up the main seal. I was quoted $1500 and told it would take 2 days. Dropped off vehicle on a Wednesday, got a phone call by Friday when it should of been done. Instead I was told that vehicle is giving off hybrid codes low voltage battery. He apparently was driving vehicle said it was dying out on him many times. He asked to keep vehicle to find the problem. A week and 3 days later still no word from this guy. I called and he answers the phone telling me that he is in the middle of something and will call me back. Never called back, 3 more days past and I had enough waiting. My daughter and I showed up and our vehicle was nowhere in sight. There were workers working on vehicles and no one came to help us or anything. I call this guys cell phone and he comes walking out from the corner. He is just running his mouth trying to explain how he took 2 hour course on hybrids blah blah blah. I asked for the vehicle and he said it's parked somewhere outside he pointed down the street. He said he almost figured out the problem. My God!! I was out of our daily driver vehicle for almost 2 weeks now and $1500 on a rental car just to take my disabled daughter to school. I asked if he flushed the transmission and he said No. I asked if we can take the vehicle and he wanted me to bring it back by Monday like wth??? He walked and disappeared and took about 25 minutes before he brought our vehicle back. It was so dirty with dust all over, he removed the engine cover, and also removed the hybrid battery cover and there were black marks in the interior it was a mess!! It looked like he was doing some sort of experiment? We took the vehicle to Masaki's Hybrid Auto Repair and they changed the battery packs and installed brand new battery packs from 2 Prius batteries because we have a GMC Yukon Hybrid. I just want to thank God we got our vehicle back and able to take it somewhere that is ASE Certified to work on Hybrid vehicles outside of the dealers. Problem solved in 2 days not 2 weeks and nothing was done!! This guy is something else! Use caution and read the reviews. I was quite alarmed when I read the reviews and saw the similarities to what I was going thru. I will post pictures later. I do have pictures of how he gave us back our vehicle. If I could give negative stars I would. DO NOT I repeat DO NOT bring your vehicle here. Last year I I brought my 06 tundra to get the rear axle bearing a fixed. It took a week and a half. Other shops I talked to prior to Q said 3 days max. A year later I noticed a leak by the rear axle, turns out the seal was broken but the warranty was only for 6 months so I had to pay $465 to have that replaced. It's been two weeks since the repairs and the same spot is leaking. Called Q told him about and asked if he could swap it out under a warranty repair and he flat out said no. He said if the seal is broken then my axle is bent and that he could bring my truck to another guy (which I would have to pay for services) to have them balance the axle too see if it's bent. AGAIN HE DENIED FIXING THE SEAL THATS UNDER WARRANTY! I asked him to replace the seal under warranty and he responded "who is supposed to pay for that?" I said not me that's what a warranty is. On top of all that he or one of the mechanic in his shop broke the ABS sensor and he again said that's not his problem. That he fixed what he was contracted to do. The only recourse now is legal action in small claims court. read more

I was referred to Q through friends. Horrible experience. Came in with a blown gasket. paid little under $2100. (with a "alleged" 6 months warranty - so it says on the receipt) A month later the car wouldn't run. Went back. Q got another engine from another truck to replace the faulty engine. After waiting for probably 6 months, he takes the engine out of my vehicle, then he realized it was the wrong engine. THEN he gives me another bill for $3500! He then corners me into selling him the truck (chevy s10 2003 black) for $500. Left me with the engine in pieces after I denied. When I come back to the shop to get the truck, my truck had garbage in the bed of the truck and a broken windshield. Did not honor the warranty and car left the shop WORSE than it was. Now he told me to tow it down because it's bad for the car, so I did. Brought the car back again days later picked it up again, cars ready Q said. Drove on freeway was working okay at first got to work & drove home after , same darn thing light flashing truck still wont upshift on freeway . Called him back he said bring it back ok to drive it! I find Q he says oh yeah waiting for another part truck is parked upstairs! Ugh so he doesn't even call me with what's going on! ! He said electric now , so.you overhaul.my trans it still doing the exact thing from before I brought it in ! Light flashing & & wont upshift on freeway! Finally after a month of back & forth bs. I pick up the truck , now my door which had a broken handle , said he was gonna take of it, when I dropped it off for the 3rd time! Brought me the car, I get in to leave , the door wont even stay shut ! Bounces back open! worst from before with the broken handle outside ! Still could open & shut from inside! He held her can hostage! (Isn't extortion illegal?) Now... Turns out Q from Hawaii Trans. Also did something that caused extensive damage down the line. I wanted to sue Hawaii Transmission in small claims court--- turns out they made her pay in cash, and did not give her any kind of receipt or other paper trail. Hmm sounds very sketchy! The Feds should investigate, tax evasion? I All I want to recover is the cost of the repairs to try to fix the damage Q did. I have had my jeep Wrangler for 12 years. I shipped it to the island earlier this year, and it started giving me problems a few months in. The engine light was on and it would overheat and shake when traveling long distances. This was my first car, and I have no intention of getting rid of it any time soon. I stopped by a few other transmission shops near my house but I chose Hawaii Transmission because the owner Q took the time to drive to my place to diagnose my car before deciding that it needed a transmission rebuilt. Eventually I decided to get the car towed to his shop. It was like an assembly line. These guys know transmissions and the rebuilder has 30 years experience. Q's shop overhauled the manual transmission on a 2013 Ford Focus in May of 2020. After the repair, it was difficult to shift gears, but I was still able to drive it. The clutch failed a year and a half later. Fortunately, I was driving at low speed otherwise, it could have been a tragic accident for my daughter and me. The new mechanic determined that the upper clutch plate had been installed upside down by Q's mechanic which ultimately caused the clutch failure. I called Q and he acknowledged that the mechanic who originally did the repair no longer works there and had been dismissed. He implied that there this mechanic was not fully competent. After originally agreeing to refund 50% of the new repair, he later denied that it was his shop's problem. As a small business owner, one needs to take responsibility, and unfortunately Q failed to do that. Before you bring you car there, please read the other one Star reviews. My 1997 Honda prelude's transmission finally gave out. Everyone knows that this is a costly repair. After calling a dozen shops on Oahu I finally chose Hawaii Transmission. He quoted me $700 cheaper than all the other shops and also provided free towing of my vehicle from Pearl City to Kalihi! The repair time took about a week which is pretty normal turn around time for a transmission rebuild. The main reason I wanted to write this review is because of the service! They were very friendly and honest which is rare these days. My vehicle is now back on the road running as smooth as ever. They also guarantee their transmission rebuilds so if you have any issues bring your vehicle back and they will look at it right away. This is not only a transmission shop they also do other repairs. Q is awesome. My husband bought a used Toyota and the car suddenly started stalling around 2nd and 3rd gear (it's automatic). I was scared to drive it. Q picked up the car for free from the house. Fixed the transmission in a good amount of time. He was real helpful and friendly. He really knows his stuff and the car works real good now. He's extremely reliable. I don't know anything about cars, but he made the process of getting the car fixed real easy. My husband was away and set up arrangements to get the car fixed without me having to do much except be there for the car to get picked up , dropped off, and pay. We knew our 97 BMW 328i automatic transmission's time was up when we heard the sickening grinding noises. After studying the reviews of many other transmission shops we took the plunge with Hawaii Transmission Services and couldn't be happier. They are terrific! The manager 'Q' took the time to check out the car with a computer and do a test drive with us (at no charge) as well as explain exactly what they would do to overhaul the transmission as well as how much it would cost and explained their one year warranty (!!) if we should do the job with them. Q was great, Professional, courteous, and follow thru with his commitments. Could not ask for more. Shop did great work. Van been back a few weeks now, brakes and rebuilt transmission running great. Background, my 2000 Van looks and runs great till one day in Sept, 2013, the van did not move and everything else seems normal. Towed it home. I did some research and the fact was these vans close to 100k miles, had a history of the transmissions not working all of a sudden with no warning. 80% of the web postings indicate a full transmission reblt or, God forbid,, buy a new one at mega bucks from the manufacturer. Q gave me the best price of several shops. I grilled him. I did. He had a great attitude and price and fully warranty his shop's work. I gave him the go ahead, he took care of the rest. NO DRAMA, towed at No cost to me my van back to his shop. within a few days the full reblt was completed. In between, he called me with updates. I took advantage of the fact the trans was out of the van and the van is in his shop. By now I trusted him to give me a price to repair some front end work and go over my breaks, it had been too soft and I knew it needed a going over at 100k miles. Q gave me a very fair price and we lock in a group work discount and I have to admire the fact Q did not go over not even a Dollar of our agreed to price. A few days later we picked up my fully repaired van with the front end repaired and hard working brakes. Been a few weeks now, everything working seamlessly. No drama.
