We've always fished out of Port Allen but from now on it will be Hawaiian Style Fishing out of Kapa'a! Our family just had the best time on a morning trip. Captain Terry is informative and fun, works hard, and did a great job getting us on a Mahi Mahi immediately. Then a variety of great fish! Expert filleting for our dinner tomorrow. Bonus: saw whales! Brah. Where do I start?! Great customer service and so informative! Captain tyler was phenomenal, fun, laidback, and loved sharing his family history and experiences. We booked a private charter and started the adventure at 0530. Worth every penny and minute! Got approximately 12 fish, all sorts of tuna. We took enough for two couples and the rest to share. I have been on a couple charters in my years, this one takes the malasadas! Best ever!!!! Book now and book often. Mahalo Tyler and Hawaiian style fishing !!!
Hands down the best fishing experience I've ever had. We took off at approximately 6 a.m and made our way out to the open waters off the coast of Kapa'a. Including myself and my brother, there was 1 more passenger on our charter and of course Captain Terry and one of his sons. We trolled for approximately 20 minutes once off shore and our first bite happened. My brother reeled in a huge 25-30 pound yellow fin tuna and it was a beast! From there, it felt like taking candy from a baby. Between the 3 of us we reeled in a whopping 15 beautiful fish including the yellowfin tuna, amberjack and crevalle jack. The secret sauce was Captain Terry and his son. These guys are the real pros and definitely helped us be a success. A portion of the fish is divided and filleted once we returned to shore allowing for 1-2 meals while on island and let me tell you, it's some damn good eatin'. I highly recommend this charter whether you are a beginner or avid fisherman, you will have a blast. I will 100% do this again on my next trip to Kauai. Like Captain Terry says, "It's so easy, a Caveman can do it!"
Josh and Tyler were amazing!!! We booked our trip for our son (11) who loves fishing. The family of 4 set out for a fun fishing excursion. however, in the first 20 minutes, our 11 year old claimed he wanted to go back, as we had a bit wavy of a morning. We encouraged him to push through. 30 minutes in, we got some bait fish on the line, and Tyler and Josh went to work right away helping us and guiding us to reel them in. However, they could sense our son wasn't doing well with sitting still, so rather than fish a sweet spot for some bait fish, they pushed on with trolling. Tyler and Josh exclaimed they had to cancel the last couple days due to the waves/weather, and so this was their first day back out. We had a great strike, but was unsuccessful at reeling it in. Trolling was a but unsuccessful, so the guys suggested we do some bottom fishing. THIS is what set them apart from other charters. I read up on some charters just trolling for 4 hours and catch nothing. These guys decided to put that bait fish to work with bottom fishing. And did it work! And by this time, my son was over the sea sickness and having a great time! Overall - this is the charter to get when staying on Kauai! They have a passion for fishing, they want to make sure you have a great time, and they talked us through what they were doing to find the fish. AND they paid attention to all members (son) and made sure to adjust as needed. OH - and they were more then generous with sharing the catch! We saved a bit on meals with that generosity!
Great family run business that knows their stuff! Everyone is super helpful, safe & does a great job fishing for what's catchable. (Which goes a long way...) Easy to set up, on time departures, true captains & fisherman. These guys are awesome & we look forward to the next fun!
My son and I had a great time fishing with Terry! He worked hard to get us on the bite, even though it was a slow morning. I wish we would could have caught more Ahi, but hey, it's fishing! The other folks who came with us were seasick for most of the trip, it was their first time fishing in the ocean... so just know that you need to have some sea legs to really enjoy the experience. I wouldn't recommend it if you haven't been deep sea fishing before.
This family owned and operated fishing charter is amazing! We had such an incredible time headed out early in the morning caught a number of fish had a great company, good conversation and an incredible caption and deck hand. This father son duo are on point. They know their stuff and are such great company. Such a wonderful experience with them. I will definitely recommend them to friends and come back to fish with them next time we visit.
Rented 2 boats. We were on a boat with Terry and he was great. Funny stories, worked hard to get us fish. Lures weren't working for an hour, so switched to fish bait which worked like a charm. Our friends on the 2nd boat had his twin sons and had a blast too.. I would definitely recommend. We caught about 14 yellowfin tuna and 2 aku in 4hrs. We used Meclizine the night before and 1/2 tab in AM. No issues. Some awesome poke that night. Way better than what you can buy
These guys are 100% amazing. We went out early on Monday, April 22 with the brothers, Captain Josh and Captain Tyler. My hubs Sam caught a small yellow fin tuna within ten minutes of our departure (too small, too bad!), and then within another twenty to thirty minutes, we were hitting skipjack tuna at a rate of one every ten to fifteen minutes. Super fun with just three of us on board, we ended the half-day with 17 beautiful fish. We were generously given half a yellow fin tuna (the other half went to our fishing mate), and a half a skipjack. Sam hooked a shark (!!!!) that hit a tuna he had hooked, got it all the way to the boat with some help, had to cut it loose, it was too big at 5-6 feet to get into the boat. These guys know what they are doing, can't wait to hit them up again next time we are on Kauai (not soon enough!). Thanks Captain Josh and Captain Tyler!
Super FUN morning on the water! Josh & Tyler welcomed us and took great care to get settled and leave the dock before 6am! By 6:30 we caught our first fish!! A beautiful Ahi Tuna!! We continued to the reef and caught another big fish Ono this time!! After another hour we caught our 3rd fish another Ono!! Friendly and professional! Clean, well maintained boat with top of the line custom fishing gear. We even tested a new lure which produced an Ono fish catch!! We booked a 4 hour private tour. A beautiful day, calm seas but large offshore swells. I highly recommend this family of experienced fishermen!! Great fun THANKS!! read more

Had a KILLER morning with Hawaiian Style Fishing. My wife and I did the 6hr private charter and it was fantastic. The guys stayed adaptable and were well prepared. Ended up with 16 Skipjack, 3 Yellowfin, and 2 Mahi. Absolutely recommend and will be booking again on our next visit! read more

Just went with Terry on a 6 hour charter. What an amazing experience. Terry is just a good salt of the earth type of guy. He truly loves what he does and makes sure you have a good time. We were fortunate enough to land 5 yellows, 6 skipjacks, and 2 wahoo. Terry sent us on the way with plenty of fish to feed everyone that joined us on the island. We will definitely book with Terry again if we make it back to Kauai. read more

Caught fish as soon as the line dropped, Terry was attentive and patient. Everyone in our 6 person group was able to catch fish and reel them in. He filleted our haul and made the experience amazing! read more

Captain Terry and Dylan are as good as it gets. We caught 28 fish and 4 different species on our trip. This crew is fun, knowledgeable, professional, and dedicated. Could not give a higher rating, or we would. If you are going to fish Kauai, this is the charter! 10 stars! read more

Terry really is such an amazing captain ! He truly knows what he is doing . We came out with our family and caught mahi-mahi , and a yellow fin tuna . We will defiantly do it again . Thank you again Terry for such a great trip today we all had so much fun . read more

Captain Terry was great! We had partied a little too hard the night before and were feeling it hard out on the water, but he was very accommodating. Even though we had to call it quits early, this was still such a fun experience. And the fish we were catching were massive! I can't believe how big they all were, especially the ahi and ono. Terry gave us more than enough fish to enjoy on the rest of our vacation. Highly recommend! read more

Went out again this time with the pops, Terry, not with the sons like last time. Our group loved it. Terry really works hard to get on the fish multitasking as captain and deckhand. I find it amazing how he does it. Changing up lures and removing our fish. We chased the diving birds looking for tuna. Fishing was tough but I can't blame Terry one bit. His constant banter and jokes just kept coming. His energy for life and his enthusiasm is contagious. At one point as we chased the schooling fish he says " I hope I remembered to fill the tank with gas". Haha.lol..... Catching fish was a bonus though my family was a little woozy from the wave action. The Sons I heard had a great fishing time and out fished us and pops on our boat. We ended up with four ahi tuna of very decent size. Terry was accommodating and cut up three for us and our 15 family members back at the homestead. PS.....good luck with other boats getting that much fish. Poke and bbq for all with leftovers. Yum. Update, my negative prior comment from my earlier review regarding actually filleting to tuna steaks is probably unwarranted because it's customary to not completely fillet the tuna but leave with skin on. Had a trip 7/22 with Hawaii Style Fishing! We had the opportunity to go out with Captain Terry. Conditions were not great but he did everything in his power to put us on fish and he did! We caught quite a few Skip Jack Tuna and hooked a " large predator fish ", with a small skip jack that was just reeled in. That was a amazing fight until the 400 lbs lead was sliced in half. He was generous with the catch and we have plenary of fish for our week! We will be a return customer!! read more

We had an amazing experience and these guys are top notch! Professional, friendly, and darn good fisherman! My two boys (13 and 10) and I caught 20 yellowfin and skipjack, and then we snagged the big one! They were very good at instructing and helping my sons, but also letting them get good experience with a fish on the line. I would highly recommend this charter on Kauai, they know where the fish are and give you a great all around experience. Thanks guys! read more

Hawaiian style fishing is incredible! The morning was full "fish-on's" and great company. This was the second fishing charter we did on our 2 week trip, Hawaiian Style Fishing was the best. Captain Terry and Hawaiian Style Fishing = AWESOME! Came out for vacation and boys wanted to fish! We caught 31 tuna among the five of us within 2.5 hrs. Within 2 minutes when we got to the spot we had already reeled in two! We did the private charter and it was definitely the highlight of our visit to Kauai! The Captain was patient, funny and really catered to us to include my son who was a bit seasick! The boat was perfect size for all of us, was clean, all the gear was included and snacks and drinks. If, no WHEN, we come back to the island, we will do this again! Great time by all! read more

We had a great day out with Terry! We wish we had done this earlier in the week to have food for the week. We caught a good number of fish and we loved how hands on everything was. The boat is a small fishing boat and we had one person on our boat get sea sick. Definitely take some motion sickness pills if you are unsure of how you will feel. Terry was a great captain and we had a lot of fun. No frills on this boat. Guys you can use the ocean as your toilet while ladies be prepared that you will be several hours without a restroom. We brought on some snacks to tide us over and terry had water, Pepsi, and guava juice. Overall it was a great morning. Would love to go again! read more

Just what we expected. A boat and good crew. We did the 4.5 hour morning trip. 30 minutes after leaving the dock and we were in 6000' of water catching small yellowtail. After an hour of yellowtail and skip jacks we headed back towards shore for the larger yellowtail, Called Ahi in Hawaii. We got lucky and caught one about 135 lbs. Not an everyday occurrence, but we found one. The crew were twins, the owners sons. They have two almost identical boats. Dad ran one, the boys ran the other. The boats are basic fishing boats. For fishing. Not for mom and the kids to sit around and eat chips. No couch, just fish. The waves were very big, but the boat and crew handled them well. It helped knowing we were only going 6 miles offshore, within sight of land. Can't wait to go again next year. My 13 year old loved it. We brought home 6 fillets and had poke the same day for lunch. read more

Had a chance to go in the morning for a 4 hour tour. Haven't been offshore fishing in over 20 years and I can say that I really enjoyed the experience. Terry(owner, operator) was already at the slip and had the boat and equipment ready when we arrived. He gave us a quick rundown and we headed right out. The boat and all the equipment was clean and well maintained and gave us no issues. After making it out to the fishing area we dropped lines and started catching fish within 15-20 min. Terry has a great attitude and sense of humor and made the time very enjoyable. We ended up catching 12 tuna and had a great time. Made it back in on time and the fish were taken care of. I would definitely recommend using him again. read more
