This was a great fishing experience. Captain Britt and Kaulana were so fun and made you feel like family. We started off the day catching bait fish and that was a lot of fun. They worked hard getting us on the fish. One of the girls on the boat caught a huge yellowfin tuna and it was just a great day all around. Both my husband and I had a blast. And we are eating some fresh yellowfin poke bowl for dinner tonight.
Let me tell you about 2 days of amazing fishing with Red and Wendell (and Beto and Julius the dogs). I chartered two days with this group not expecting too much because I have been skunked before. I booked the charter primarily for my teenage son who's never been lucky fishing deep sea game. Myself and two kids bonded with the crew so well we felt like we were with extended family....honestly it was incredible. I am a widow and it was always my late husband's dream to see his kid catch a once in a lifetime fish. We were talking with the crew about my son's dream, we all got a little emotional and then......we heard that WHIZZZZZZZ. Took my kid about an hour/20 to pull up a 100lb tuna. I was crying, crew was crying and my kids believed that the tuna was sent from the heavens. It was one of the most beautiful moments of my life witnessing this and the crew made it all happen. We then go out on a second day with just my daughter, Wendell and Red feel like long lost family at this point. We weren't expecting much after the amazing catch the day prior but the Whizzz hit again and my daughter pulled up a fish of her lifetime. It was amazing. I truly believe in positive energy makes for rare memories and Red and Wendell ooze positive energy and grace. I can't ever thank them enough for such an amazing experience, all I can do is tell others that you can't go wrong with Ohana Fishing Charters. They treat you like family and will do their upmost to get you a fish.
Captain Brit and his crew know these waters like the back of their hand. They are very knowledgeable about where to find the fish and are using all the tricks and techniques to ensure you reach your goal. .. catching fish! We got 5 Mahi Mahi and a nice Amber Jack that fought like a 100 pound marlin! We also saw whales , dolphins and even an 8 foot reef shark when we were throwing in our fish scraps! I highly recommend Ohana Fishing Charters! Mahalo !
Four of us had a wonderful time on a half day outing with Capt Britt and Kaulana (Aug. 6, 2025). They explained everything, told lots of great stories, and helped us catch a lovely yellowfin/ahi tuna. One fish was hooked but lost to a shark - pretty exciting anyway. The Capt made sure we went home with half a tuna, caught the previous day and prepared in brine to be top quality. That tuna lasted us for 3 meals! The best poke, sushi rolls, nigiri, sashimi and seared steak ever!! A wonderful Kauai memory. Would go again anytime.
I'm not sure how else to start or to say this, but Ohana FC is by far the best off-shore fishing charter on Kauai and quite possibly the whole of the islands of Hawaii. From the ease of contact to the clear instructions, they truly represent the Aloha lifestyle and what fishing is all about. They were very up-front about everything and even called us before we booked our charter to make sure we'd be on a boat and go out that day (weather permitting). Our crew consisted of Wyndall, Red, Julius, and Bento. All of which played a key role in an eventful and successful 6 hour charter. Naturally we were hoping for the monster trophy fish that you see online everywhere. While those are nice it's good to remember that it's quite possible to not see anything or have any bites. I'm glad to say that we were fortunate to reel in a 40 lb Ono and a 35 lb Skipjack Tuna. The other pair in the boat with us caught a 40 lb Skipjack Tuna and a 5 foot Marlin that unfortunately jumped the line. Red was a great deck hand, he explained the procedure, helped pull in all the fish, congratulated everyone, and cut up the fish for us to take home at the end. The crew made sure to inform us on the fish that were in those waters, ask where we were from & staying on the island, and even give us some recommendations for places to visit or restaurants to check out. I'm glad we chose Ohana over any other charter across the islands. If and when we return to Kauai we will be booking with them again guaranteed. I would like to thank each of the Ohana FC members and a special thanks to Wyndall, Red, Bento, and Julius for making our trip and experience so memorable. If you're in Kauai or even any of the islands of Hawaii and looking for a fishing charter, better yet THE fishing charter Ohana is more than worth it, we'd choose them 10/10 times. Brit and his crew were absolutely amazing! They were very knowledgeable about where to fish and we're happy to share that knowledge with everybody on the boat. These guys do not mess around! There's never a guarantee of catching a fish, but these guys delivered! We caught enough skip check tuna to feed our family for several days on the island. I highly recommend charting with these guys when you get here. You will not be disappointed! I will definitely be contacting them again on my next visit to Kauai.
Brit was our captain. We were in the right areas, b/c we could see the fish on the finder, but we just didn't get many bites. We got two solid bites and were able to reel in two fish. The water was rocking, but the crew said it wasn't a very bad day compared to usual. I popped a motion sickness pill about an hour ahead of time just in case, and I had no issues on the 6 hour shared charter. There were 4 of us on the trip and we only caught 2 small fish. I would not consider myself a "fisherman" and it was clear that the other people on the boat with me had done a lot more fishing than me and knew much more than me, so I was content listening to everyone tell stories and share fishing knowledge. I did a lot of research on different charters and this was by far my top choice after reading lots of review and contacting different companies to inquire about their policies and prices etc. Also as a FYI, you should always tip your captain/crew. Granted, it is always easier to tip when you catch fish and have more fun, but if you feel like they are doing a good job, you should tip. The two fish that were caught were a wavy back tuna (which I had never heard of before) and a Rainbow Runner or Cava Cava (which I had also never heard of before). On shared charters, everyone shares the catch and lucky for me, I only had to share with one other party, so I got enough fish for a few meals. I really wanted to reel in fish (the boat does pretty much all the work of the actual catching, we just take turns reeling) and I also was looking forward to making fish. Well the fish that we reeled in ended up being delicious! I had sashimi, nigiri, poke, seared, pan fried, and probably some other way that I already forgot. Now I want to go fishing again. A few small notes that could be helpful, but always call to confirm... There are bathrooms at the harbor, go before you take off. If you are a guy, your bathroom is the ocean while the boat is moving. :) There is free parking at the harbor. They provide a few simple drinks such as water and soda, but feel free to bring your own (they will throw your beer on ice for you if you bring some). I brought some of my own, but didn't drink any until after b/c I didn't want to have to go to the bathroom, lol. You don't need to go barefoot or have any special type of shoes, flip flops are fine. They will filet and bag the fish for you and they did an excellent job doing so. If you made it this far, don't worry about looking at other outfits, just book. You will have a great time!
Highly recommend Ohana Charter, we had a great time with Britt & Red! My husband kids and I did a private charter and the crew was very engaging and knowledgeable about the area. I know a catch isn't guaranteed but we all caught tuna and even had a couple marlin on the line! Very exciting and fun day for us all! Bento (frenchie) was a great deckhand also, just keep an eye on your snacks!
Captain Brit & Kiki were great at finding fish for our group. I took my 2 sons and 3 nephews on their first deep sea charter. Ages ranging from 11 to 19 years old. Brit & Kiki made sure ever one of them got to land a fish of some sort. We were able to land a couple of amber jacks, a grey snapper, and a surgeonfish. A bonus was getting to sail with Boy & Bento.

Amazing! The crew was awesome both John and Kaulana made the trip for my Ohana memorable! Both of my girls totally enjoyed the experience. We caught 2 yellowfin tuna's, a small Aku, and a Wahoo. I just wish we could have been given first choice, of the fish (or a part of) we would have taken home. Instead we was given the Aku, piece of yellow fin, and a very small piece (the tail part) of the Wahoo (my first choice) although we knew we was going to share the catch. Fishing with "My Girls" priceless! read more

Went out with my boyfriend and 2 other father son duos with Captain Britt. Upon arriving Britt mentioned it had been a slow few days of catching anything and that bottom fishing would be our best bet. Within the 6 hours of fishing with him, we caught 12 amberjacks! Everyone on the boat caught 2!! One of the biggest catch days they'd seen in a while! On top of that we reeled in and let go 2 sharks and saw whales and dolphins along the way! We had a spectacular day that exceeded all expectations with Ohana. The captain and crew, Lance and Brennan were great with providing instruction, explaining the gameplan, and then stepping back to let the day unfold. Starting off by catching bait fish was exciting on its own, but that was quickly surpassed when the first Mahi Mahi hit. This was a shared trip father and son x 2. Ohana delivered us to four Mahi and four skipjack. Absolutely epic day. Thank you Ohana! read more
Went tuna fishing with my family and these guys are awesome! We had Raine and John as our Capt and first mate. John was all action and kept his eye out for the birds and current and John kept the boat going straight. We needed up boarding 2 tunas, 1 about 120lbs and 1 about 3lbs. Highly recommend this team and this charter. Fun and informative. read more

These guys are awesome! Capt. Wendell and deck hand Dane are super knowledgeable about the island and fishing the waters of Kauai. We recently booked a trip with them on 10/12/23I've been on many fishing charters from the mainland, Mexico, and the Hawaiian islands... and by far, fishing with Ohana Fishing Charters has been my best fishing experience! We hooked on some nice size yellow-fin tuna! We ate like kings for a couple of days! If you're in Kauai and looking to do some fishing, I highly recommend going with Ohana Fishing Chargers! You'll be in good hands. read more

My dad and I had gone out together on a private charter during our stay in Kaua'i. We opted for an 8hr trip in hopes to catch some larger game-- and we had the perfect day! We've fished many places before, although, none are quite like Kaua'i! Brandon and Wendell from the Ohana fishing company made us feel right at home! They were incredibly welcome and inviting their whole trip! Spreading their knowledge and their love of fish made our experience that much more enjoyable. They had some very special spots for us to fish out of, resulting in; (1) 125+ Ibs Ahi Yellowfin Tuna, (2) 40-50ibs Yellowfin Tuna, and some great smaller catches as well! We would love to do it again and cannot thank the guys enough! read more

What a great morning. Went out on a 4 hour shared charter. Good group of people from all over. I was a bit anxious because I had never done this before. Britt and Braden made this simple and fun. My ignorance to the process was quickly put away and I felt welcome We were able to haul in a Yellow Fin Tuna (estimate at 110 lbs). 3 of us shared in the reeling and it was considered a boat catch. Soooo much fun and quite tiring. I will be back now for sure. Britt followed up the following day with some of the catch already processed and ready for cooking. Can't say enough positive about this experience. I recommend Ohana. read more

Look no further for a fishing boat charter, O'Hana is your best choice. Period. I promise. Before we even showed up for our trip, my already high opinion of O'Hana based on reviews was raised thanks to Cynthia. Wow, people, Cynthia, who I suppose is their office manager is a VERY classy lady. I'd originally booked and paid for the trip as a deluxe charter in January, b/c I didn't see a different private charter, and she rebooked me for a "private charter" the week of our trip and sent me a refund of nearly $160, saying we'd get the same 4 hour trip for less money! Our weather started out a little cloudy with a bit of drizzle, but it didn't affect our getting to head out. The bit of rain even gave us numerous beautiful rainbows. From the time Brit called me because we were running a couple of minutes behind in the parking lot to the end of our time together, Brit, Scotty and Red were friendly, welcoming and prepared in every way to do their best to make sure we had a fun, safe and successful fishing trip. We also LOVED the addition of Red's precious pooch, Bento, as we've been missing our own dogs very much. They did however make sure that we were happy to have Bento join us, and I'm sure there would have been a way to have him stay elsewhere. It should be noted that O'Hana has the most stable fishing boat in the area and maybe all of Kauai, which helped to at least diminish the impact of the ocean currents. They sailed us out to a spot with lots of fish on the radar and sea birds doing some fishing of their own. We enjoyed seeing dolphins on the way out and back. Brit, Red and Scotty knew exactly what sort of bait to hook some keepers and told us they had other tricks, if we hadn't start getting bites. Like so many things in life, being able to adapt to changing variables in a situation is one of the most important skills you want in a captain. That's what you're getting with O'Hana captains. I hoped my son (10) and husband would be able to catch some fish, and they did thanks to our skilled hosts. My son reeled in a skip jack and 1/2 of a yellow fin tuna w/ A WHOLE LOT of help from the O'Hana gents (He took so long reeling it in, a shark was able to bite off half of the tuna on the way up!), but I really really really appreciate that they didn't let my son just quit, when he got a little tired in the process. (My son had said he wanted to reel in both of those fish, and they allow people on the boat to claim a reel, when a line starts running...obviously as long as it's within their capabilities w/ assistance.). While the captains were helping my son succeed in catching his fish, they did it in a way that was incredibly patient and encouraging, even when he was making it hard, which isn't always easy to do. They obviously have experience working with people of all ages and great discernment in how to go about it. You won't have to reel anything in on your own, if you want help. Back to adapting the plan based on the circumstances...my 12 year old daughter started getting very sea sick about half way through our four hour trip. Brit let us know that this was our charter, and they'd be happy to head back, whenever we wanted, pointing out that my daughter really wasn't feeling well, and we just needed to let him know what we wanted...should it be to go in early. My son had already caught two nice fish and my husband had caught one. My husband had also started getting sea sick himself after the adrenaline rush of reeling in his fish. I hadn't said anything about wanting to reel something in myself, frankly, because I'd stopped wanting to after I'd started getting sea sick myself, but I'd still been thoroughly enjoying watching my son and husband have fun. Shortly after Brit brought it up, my husband and I decided to end our trip about an hour short, because that really was the right choice for our family, but I really don't think we would have asked to go back early, if Brit hadn't made it so easy. They cut up one of the tuna for us and wanted to send us away with a huge bag of it, but I just wasn't up to cooking it at the end of our vacation like I'd originally planned, so I was happy to just have them keep the fish. It might sound like the trip wasn't everything I'd hoped, but it actually was as perfect as life allowed, and most of that was due to the experience and kindness of Brit, Red and Scotty. We all had a truly great time overall, even my daughter. We felt better soon after getting back on land, and we will always remember the fun we had on our deep sea fishing adventure with O'Hana's crew in Kauai. I'm really glad we went. I do have this advice to give to other families though... Get a private charter in case one of you gets sick!!! Also, use Dramamine or get a prescription for scopolamine to use in advance. read more

Do you get to keep everything you catch?
You can keep however much you want. We caught about 300# , 225# blue marlin and 75# blue fin tuna. Shared about 5-10 #a amongst each guest was more than enough.
