All i brought with me were my swim fins and an extra bicep leash I had. I was looking for a legit bodyboard rental and the shops I had been to and/or the beach side rental shacks had boards that just werent up to par. I was down the road at Tamba buying tees and the guy there (thankfully) referred me to Kapaa Beach Shop when I asked if he knew of any places that had quality bodyboard rentals. He told me Mike at KBS rented Mike Stewart Science Bodyboards.... The look of shock on my face was probably photo worthy. I couldnt believe the type of place I had been looking for was just down the road. It was already my 2nd time in Kapaa by that point. Kapaa Beach Shop is on your right side along Kuhio Highway if you are coming from the Lihue area. It's right after Chicken in a Barrel BBQ. It has about 4 dedicated spaces out front in its gravel driveway. They rent everything from beach umbrellas, chairs, bicycles, diving and snorkeling gear... You name it. You need it for the beach, he has it. It was jamming with customers the both times I went there but Mike was gracious and helpful with all of us. I was able to rent a hybrid Mike Stewart Science bodyboard which I used at a few beaches on the island. It was great. Thick board with lots of float to it, making catching waves easier. It also came with a Gyroll bicep leash... It was like a setup I would gladly have every day back home. I'm thankful to Mike for the Aloha and just being super cool in providing a quality rental. We chatted it up a bit and you can tell he is legit and really knows his stuff. I HIGHLY recommend you go see Mike at Kapaa Beach Shop for all your beach rental needs. He is the man. Mahalos Mike! From start to finish Fathom Five Divers offered an incredible experience. I picked this shop over the others in the area because their response to my email enquiries were so detailed and helpful. The shop itself is small, but well stocked. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and friendly. Our instructor for the dives was Devon. She was very knowledgeable and patient with our group. She made the dives fun and educational at the same time. Her passion for diving was infectious. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an instructor or even just a guided dive. For the Enriched Air Diver course our instructor was Reid. He too, was very knowledgable and an excellent teacher. Also, when one of our divers had to cancel one of the course dives they were very accomodating in rescheduling his dive for later. Captain Kai was competent, informative, and very funny, as was crewmember Vayden, and Collin's mai tais are not to be missed. The food onboard was delicious and included traditional Hawaiian pulled pork and teriyaki chicken. Scrumptious cookies and bubbly rounded out the evening. Some things to be aware of: This cruise is on a catamaran; some of our party were expecting a small cruise ship that would have been a smoother ride. Waves are bumpy, and the windier parts of the trip resembled a mild roller coaster--if that's not your thing or you know you can experience some motion sickness, please factor that into your decision to book a trip. That being said, one person in our party experienced some light motion sickness and was really well cared for by the crew. We really appreciated their kindness and support. If you have sturdy sea legs and an adventurous spirit, I'd highly recommend this excursion. The views of Kauai from the ocean are worth it alone, but the information from the captain and crew about the island and its culture are also super valuable. The whole experience also felt very safe; the cruise will not go to areas with high wind/surf, and on our trip the captain explained why he was turning out of the wind/waves when he made that decision.

Our first boat dive was actually our very first certified dive after getting certified, so I was definitely nervous But Anthony, our divemaster, was incredible. He guided us through the most amazing dive sites, helped us explore caverns, work on our buoyancy, and I got unbelievably close to my favorite sea turtles I got a little seasick because the waters were stormy and choppy during the first dive, but the whole crew encouraged me to get back in for the second one and I'm SO grateful I did because it ended up being one of my favorite dives ever. We loved the experience so much that we booked another shore dive with Cody and it was equally amazing. We got super close to the honus again, ended up right in the middle of a bait ball, saw a HUGE barracuda, and the most beautiful giant mushroom coral. Beyond the dives themselves, the people here were just sooo kind, encouraging, and welcoming. At one point they even gave Tim and me a thumbs up and said we didn't seem like new divers which honestly made our whole day Absolutely loved this shop and will 1000% dive with them again.

Cassie, our dive guide, was a great instructor for my young girls (11 and 13yo), to quote my daughter, "I learned so much, but it's like she just talks to you!" I will tell you as an open water, cave & wreck diver that the quality of the instruction was appropriate for the demands of this dive, and excellent. Cassies attention to safety was fantastic, and I was impressed by her ability to give an extremely knowledgeable wildlife tour AND keep my crazy kids together and safe. We went on to get the girls their PADI Open Water certifications with Watersports over the next two weeks. We dove a total of 6 times - incredible Honu, fish, eels, octopi - rare species that are only found here on Kauai. JUST INCREDIBLE. The quality of the instruction and guide service was consistent throughout. I saw many other services there at Koloa - Watersports was not cookie cutter, and spared everyone dry lectures while they were stuck in their wetsuits in the hot sun. Gregg, Cassie's father, is a total pro and keeps everyone safe. GREAT EXPERIENCE & GREAT PEOPLE 10 out of 10!

Not only can you get a free peek of the fishes though some windows located right across Lava Shack you can actually take a dip along with the fishes for the day or your length of stay though the hours here are short 10am to 3pm so plan your experience accordingly your day pass does allow you to enter and exit as you like as for the day it's $25 for adults and $20 for keiki and for your length of stay it's $45 for adults and $35 for keiki. It is a fun option without packing it all up and voyaging out to the beach this fun and cool place makes exploring something new a breeze as everything here is contained to snorkel and explore nothing like I've ever seen and it's Aulani of course. I'm…read moretelling you you won't regret it and you will be so proud of yourself after and in awe of the beauty in sharks. I was you - 5 years ago I was like hmm should I? Sharks seem scary, but the adrenaline and excitement led me to push purchase + and I made sure to add the professional photography session. This specific experience is what catapulted me into my passion that has become marine life conservation and just the ocean in general. For people with anxiety - READ THIS STEP BY STEP WHAT HAPPENS ON THIS TOUR: First things first - take motion sickness meds night before and morning of the dive. You'll get to the harbor and they'll have you sign a waiver and then welcome you onto the boat. You'll take your shoes off and get on to the boat where they typically split it by people who got the photography package on one side, and the GoPro users on the other side. It's only about 4 divers to each safety diver - small groups are better! Once you're on the boat they will give you a presentation on what you'll see and what role the sharks play in the ecosystem. Then they prepare you for the water on the ride over where if you're lucky, you'll see some spinner dolphins on the way! The boat ride is about 15 minutes each way. Once you get out to the diving spot, you'll gear up and start getting in the water. There is a rope alongside the boat that you hold on to while you look out at the sharks. One by one the safety diver will ask if you are comfortable doing a little individual dive for a better look. If you are interested, they count you down 3..2..1 and then guide you to the right spot. If you don't want to go - no worries, just hold the rope and enjoy the view! You're in the water for about 40 minutes and then you get back on the boat. They tell you some more conservation facts and before you know it you're back in the harbor in awe that you just swam with real sharks in the open ocean!! I have now done this dive about 6 or 7 times - it is my favorite activity especially as the seasons change, different animals come to visit. You can do fun things, even if you're scared. The crew at One Ocean is top notch and will not only tell you you're safe - but will make you feel it. Big thanks to Captain Liko, Gina, and Kaitlyn for always showing me a great time!
