Spearfishing was at the top of our honeymoon bucket list, and I'm so glad we found Kalani and Jen! I was set to go spearfishing with Kalani, but the conditions weren't safe to get out. He was flexible for the remaining dates of our trip, but the surf was still too choppy on the days I was available. The last day I could go the surf was good, but I got really sick the night before and had to cancel, which I was really bummed about. But, Kalani gave me a full refund and was super chill about it. I'm posting this review (even though I couldn't go fishing) because of the A+++ business ethics of this company. Nature has its own plans (weather and germs!) and they won't exploit that by taking a deposit. Rough tour. Leading up to the tour we had no communication. There was little heads up on what to bring and wear. Upon getting there, we had awful equipment in comparison to him which negatively affected our ability to participate. He then took us to a public beach where we went in the water before even getting taught how to fish. In the water he gave us poor instructions on how to fish not even showing us the gun. He then handed us the gun and we were just expected to figure it out ourselves. We did not find any fish larger than 4 inches nor would we even have been able to catch them. We concluded the trip by getting pulled by the current into a 4ft tall wave break where we asked to go back (30 minutes of swimming against the current). To leave, we snuck through the backyard of someone's house (who he did not know). Awful trip... find someone with a boat who knows what the heck they are doing. read more

I've done all water sports for recreational use. The one sport I was amateur in is Spearfishing. Kelani and Jennifer kept me in a comfort zone. Going over safety and what to expect was right on target, they did not disappoint. The shore dive location was absolutely amazing. Most definitely a hidden gem. The environment underwater was full of life with so many types of species. It felt like Kalani was watching at all times, giving me tips for breath time and consuming energy. I walked away gaining more knowledge. I will now continue bucket list of spearfishing and try to accomplish more. We had the most amazing experience spear fishing with Kalani and Jen. Jen was so patient with me as a mediocre swimmer while Kalani took my husband out for a more challenging experience. He was careful to find a great dive spot despite changing weather conditions. Even just the snorkeling component was awesome with massive sea turtles. From our phone call to our time spearfishing together in the water he was professional and explained everything very clearly. It was great to have Jen along with us, she took some great photos and videos and is also an experience spearfishing guide. I decided to extend to a full day because we are having so much fun and had great conditions. Kalani taught me techniques with breathing safety gear and fish identification. I got and nice surgeonfish and a orange banded triggerfish, both were tasty. I'll be booking another trip with him next time I visit Kauai. read more

If experienced, definitely do not book with this couple, and expect to be with a large group if you do book unexperienced. Very poor communication and guidance and had talked over the phone about promised to be able to go to deeper zones and was only allowed to 36 feet deepest on my dive watch. If you are looking to just 3 prong shoot for small kole in very shallow water this is for you, but if you are looking for a wild experience and a ton of fun seeing epic ledges and sawed after species known to roam Hawaiian reefs book anyone else, and I recommend a local with a boat or special access to land. This tour literally takes you to a public beach anyone could go to for free and shore dive. Again, strongly do not recommend for anyone who has spearfished at least once or twice before, you will be very disappointed in few fish you see in highly pressured zones and the dead reef they put you on. read more

My son and I had a great time spearfishing with Kalani and Jen. We are both are very comfortable in the ocean and I had some prior experience with three prong spearing so we were primarily looking to gain some local knowledge (what fish to spear, etc....) and learn how to properly use the spear guns. Kalani provided exactly the type and amount of instruction we were hoping for and then turned us loose to hunt with him. To say we enjoyed it would be an understatement. We are both hooked and plan to continue spearfishing at home in San Diego. We also hope to hunt with Kalani and Jen again next time we visit Kauai. Kalani and Jen are awesome! We were recently in Kauai and our son turned 17 while we were there. He wanted to try spearfishing so we did this as a birthday gift to him. I have to admit that I was not terribly comfortable with the idea but wanted to be a sport about it. Jen and Kalani totally put my mind at ease. They work so well together and are really attentive to make sure everyone is safe and having a good time. I did not end up catching a fish but everyone else in my group caught one or more. Kalani and Jen are some of the best people you will meet on the island. The conditions were not perfect during our trip and we did have to reschedule, but they still made every attempt to make the time I had there as enjoyable as possible. I had plenty of shots on really good fish, and missed more than I care to mention but the whole time they were encouraging and helpful. Everybody in the group did get fish that day even with the wind and waves being what they were, which shows the quality of the guides and knowledge of the reef. It was one of the best experiences I have had in my life, and I grew up fishing and guiding where I live. I can't say enough good things about my trip, when you are on the island you need to book a trip with them.
